I massage naked guys for a living, but it’s strictly business. As a physical therapist, I get my hands on the hottest guys in sports, but I’m a professional. I have rules.
And I’m *this* close to breaking every one of them.
It’s all his fault: Austin “The Champ” Sherwood, the gorgeous football god. He’s most valuable on the field, and most desired in the bedroom. He’s my obnoxious patient. I hate him. I want him. But we’re forced together as he's recovering from a season-ending injury.
Rejecting him should be easy. I shouldn’t want to date a client, but my heart melts when I see him with his baby daughter. A football god who’s not a player? He's a dream-come-true, but I can’t date him. Our forbidden romance could get me fired.
But what will we lose if we walk away?
Note: This football romance is a full-length standalone novel with a HEA. For a limited time, it includes two bonus books of similar length: Wrong and Filthy!
This book just didn't quite work for me. I think I just was expecting a different book based on the blurb, but I can imagine others could find it enjoyable.
What I did like: - ZERO OW drama (which was originally a concern of mine since he was a single father) - It was a safe read - It was a quick read - I loved the H's interaction with his baby
What I didn't care for: - I would have preferred more focus on his being a single father & more scenes with his child. The ones that were there were really sweet & adorable. But there were only a few scenes and I kept forgetting he had a child sometimes.
- The h annoyed me at times.
- It seemed like h had a valid lawsuit waiting for her around every corner with some of the insulting stuff the other male characters said to her. But she simply ignores it, which to be honest, no way could I do that. At the very least i needed her to file an HR complaint.
In summary, while I found it to be just meh & it didn't work for me, again I can see others enjoying it. I would say if you had nothing else to read & you wanted a quick low angst safe read this book is for you. Sadly it just wasn't for me.
Really didn't like Chloe/Doc. She judged Austin way to quickly and way to harshly. I didn't like her. She kept getting angry and livid because he was flirting and being inappropriate but she was attracted to him and would stare at him when he wasn't looking so she should just shut up.
Austin was too forward that's for sure but it just went with the cocky player attitude so I couldn't really fault his character for that.
There wasn't much with the baby involved which I was expecting more of. The blurb is basically all about him being a single dad but it wasn't very well put together with those parts of the book. The kid felt like an after thought.
All around it was just okay for me. Didn't stand out and wouldn't read again but it was a take it or leave it kind of book for me.
Woah! Katherine Lace has a unique talent of turning up the heat and leaves her readers wanting a little more. I loved being caught up in the characters Ms. Lace created. With a great mix of humor, angst, drama, secrets, seduction, over the top sexual chemistry, love, and oh so hot sex, once you start reading Lady and the Champ, you'll be turning the pages to see where the story takes you. If you're not into a sexy, hot as hell, bad boy, dirty-talking football player who wants to do dirty things... then this book isn't for you. I received a courtesy copy of this book for an honest review.
Ohhh what a cute story ! A lot of laughter and romantic stuff. A lot of HOT stuff too ;) (if y'all know what I mean hehe). Well written, really catchy since chapter 1. Loved it !
This book had the potential to be a 5 star read for me but there were just some things that didn’t work for me with this story. Chloe is a physical therapist whose company works with the football team. She does not like working with football players due to a bad experience but she loves her job. Austin is a player who was injured and needs PT to get back in the game. He immediately takes a liking to Chloe and resolves to get her in his bed. I liked Chloe and Austin on the surface. The secret with Austin made me like him more. One thing I hate is in books when people give someone a nickname and that person constantly tells them to stop and they don’t. In this case, Austin calls Chloe doc even though she’s not a doctor. It’s just a pet peeve of mine and made Austin seem annoying to me. I thought when Chloe found out Austin’s secret they would begin a friendship and the relationship would grow from there. To me he just kept being annoying in trying to turn their physical therapy sessions into sex sessions. And I would think after everything Chloe went through she wouldn’t fall so quickly for Austin. I mean there was some resistance but she didn’t seem to put up much of a fight to me. Overall this was not a bad book but some things just didn’t work for me. I would still recommend this book because I think it would appeal to other people.
Story of Chloe, a PT and Austin, a football player who has injured himself and Chloe's assigned to him.
My issues with the story were numerous:
-- First, this felt incomplete despite the fact the blurb says it's a full length standalone novel. It ended at about 37%. -- I had a hard time feeling sympathy for Chloe after the photo scandal. She'd been down this road before, didn't learn any lessons and still went ahead and pursued a relationship with a client. You reap what you sow. -- We're introduced to his daughter and the baby momma, but we are never really shown the dynamic. There's a lot of telling, but no showing. And that makes for a shallow read. -- In the last chapter we're told that Chloe met with the baby mama, but what happened? Why was this even necessary? -- We know Roger is an a-hole, but we don't get to see the revenge, so it wasn't as satisfying. -- What makes their relationship except for the fact that they're hot for each other?
I'm a huge fan of sports romance so this one was no exception. I loved their banter, his pursue; but I think there were still couple questions unanswered although there was a HEA. And I really hate books if they end without some sort of epilogue. I had to suscribe to author's page to get a epilogue - still didn't. Is this just because it's free on Kindle or even in paperback version? Like you read the whole book and then BAM! You want an epilogue? Subscribe, like and follow, tag six friends (as you actually have them), catch a unicorn and share on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Gmail, Googlr Plus etc. (Okay there was only a subsribe but I'm still pissed I was forced to do it just because I want to know more)
If I judge a book by this act I would't give it a star. But since the writing was really good and like I said I really loved the characters I give 5 stars.
But If I have to to this again, I'll rate it with one star. Just a heads-up.
I've read everyone of Katherine's books. This one I loved just has much as her other ones. Austin is one hot man. Make sure you have something cold to drink when you read this one. I laughed so much at the beginning from their inner dialogue. You should really try this author if you haven't already. Steam gets 10 stars.I received a free copy for an honest review.
I both liked and disliked this one. I liked it because it wasn't insta-love and the heartfelt scenes with the baby were really cute. There were touching moments that made the story good. I disliked it because Chloe was incredibly judgmental of Austin, who supposed to be the "good" guy but deals with sexual harassment that gets increasingly dangerous from Roger and does nothing about it. I also disliked it because Austin repeatedly pushes her to sleep with him just because he "likes getting her riled up" but has not consideration for her career or her concerns and then seems strangely surprised when she actually gets fired for unprofessional behavior. Imagine that.
So I read 1/2 of it and to be honest.... Life is too short. Not feeling the characters and after reading some other reviews, I just don't think it's worth it. Moving on to something else.
Nope could not get into it. I wanted more of the back story and maybe had I keep reading it I would have gotten that but I was in 100 pages and it was still lackluster.
Title: Lady and the Champ Author: Katherine Lace Publisher: Self Reviewer: Barb Release Date: July 3, 2016 Genre(s): Contemporary Romance, Sports Heat Level: 4 flames out of 5 Rating: 5 stars out of 5
Review: *****5 Lady and the Sex God Stars*****
This is my favorite Katherine Lace book and by far the steamiest! Austin (The Champ) is a professional football player. Chloe is the physical therapist assigned to get him into top form for the playoffs. From chapter one I loved the flirtatious banter between them and Chloe gets a little more than she bargained for at their first therapy session!
And the blanket tents like it’s trying to cover the center ring at the circus.
“What kinds of sauces do you joke about?” Did she make a joke? “Well, there’s a sauce I use all the time that’s frequently the butt of jokes.” She leans across the table, interested. “Oh yeah?” “It’s homemade. Thick. Juicy. I’ve been told that it tastes creamy and salty.” Her eyebrows rise. “Like Alfredo sauce?” “Sort of. Except you have to tug on the bottle real good to get the sauce out.”
As Austin finally gets Chloe to break her rule of no sex with clients, the pages steam up so get a fan to cool you off while reading!
Chloe meets Austin’s baby and Austin begins to see Chloe as a possible mother for Emma and wants her permanently in his life. But someone that Chloe works with is playing the scorned card and makes major trouble for them! Chloe feels so betrayed by Austin that she shuts him out! She loses her love, her job and her reputation all due to one intimate picture that makes the rounds in cyberspace.
Intrigued? You should be! Katherine Lace writes one heck of an epilogue and I absolutely loved it!
1-click this baby and let yourself get taken on a wonderful rollercoaster with Austin and Chloe!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I gotta say I genuinely enjoyed this book. She pokes fun at football commentary in the beginning for sounding like porn; as a girl who doesn't care for football that much, it really helped to draw me in. Austin & Chloe are both resistant in the beginning which gives great tension to the storyline. Some authors jump into the sex unrealistically early. Katherine nailed it so to speak. The jealous coworker, Roger provides a worthy villain. When I got started, I just couldn't stop & read it all in one go. I especially liked when Chloe accidentally "titplannted" into Austin's hands. I legit couldn't stop laughing. At times I get to the end of the book and wish I had those 2 hours of my life back; this is not one of those times. Definitely worth it!!

I am always game for a great sports romance and LADY AND THE CHAMP is a bona fide winner! Katherine Lace's narrative is witty, addictive and oh-so sexy and the dialogue was absolutely dynamite. This book had the perfect blend of humor, angst and steamy chemistry between Austin and Chloe!! I was hooked from page one and omg...talk about a delectable hero!!! Austin is absolute deliciousness all over!! A football star and a single dad!! Swoooonnn!! Like what more could a girl ask for? So if you are after a winsome read with hot chemistry, witty humor and a heart tugging HEA, then be sure to check out this book. It is pure decadent delight!!!!
So, this book was okay. I still have a few unanswered questions about characters that were introduced in the story but then was never any follow-up/mention of them again (example: The hero's sister). I found the Hero to be a bit immature and the heroine to be indecisive and whiney. Why mention her if she is not a part of the story line? It didn't feel like the scenes were seamless. Just my thoughts...
This was my first book by Katherine and I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised. From the book blurb I was under the impression to expect the usual characters and lack of depth with the cocky jock trope but that just wasn't the case.
This book wasn't all that deep or dramatic by any means. It was a fun, entertaining, naughty romp of a good time. The back and forth between Austin and Chloe was crazy good. and did I mention hilarious?
Austin was a sweet southern boy at heart. He loved his family and he loved football. He was also an arrogant obnoxious little shit for a good portion of the book but don't let that fool you. The way Austin acted toward Chloe was ridiculous at times, but he wanted her to react and react she did. At no point did Austin's teasing of Chloe and his acting like an obnoxious little shit ever come across in a negative way. No way. Austin was such a good natured sort of guy and he was just so nonchalant with his delivery when it came to needling Chloe. It was impossible to be mad at him because he enjoyed riling Chloe up so damn much.
Chloe was strong, independent but also distrustful and wary. From the jump we understand she absolutely hates football players. Period. Obviously there is a story and a reason for her biased hate of that particular athletic career, which I won't spoil it for you. Simply put it involves her ex-boyfriend, which yep, you guessed it, was a football player. Once we learned the full story about her dislike of football players and why she kept Austin at arm's length she became easier to understand. I can't blame her one bit for being wary and fighting her attraction to Austin. It was understandable. Once bitten twice shy, right?
The chemistry between Austin and Chloe was instantaneous. They had some great banter! It was witty and hot. The volleying back and forth of sarcasm, innuendos and euphemisms was epic. I loved that Chloe didn't let Austin get away with a lot of the crap he pulled with her in the beginning, which was just to get a rise out of her and it usually worked.
The sex was steamy and just a grand ole time. So good. I appreciated the minor drama in the final chapters. The book does have a villain of sorts that we get to see get their due.
Overall the book wasn't very deep on an emotional level but somehow Katherine managed to scrape together just enough of the right emotional bits to make it just enough. It wasn't over the top or cheesy at all. Personally this was a fun read for me and I enjoyed it. I would totally recommend it.
With that said, my only issues with the story overall were that although we get the "I love yous", HEA and cute last chapter/epilogue into the future...the lack of a few extra scenes between Austin and Chloe actually talking and getting to know one another was lacking for me. Which, funny thing that, you wouldn't really realize it till it's over. I didn't. But with their HEA fresh in my mind I think to myself about their feelings for one another and how they evolved to love one another and though, yes, they did spend plenty enough time together, were intimate, and had fantastic chemistry I felt like we sort of skimmed over the "get to know you" phase. Not that loving a person requires deep discussions and delving deep into their personalities but you get what I'm saying. Their relationships evolvement was fufilling but if I could add one thing to make this book better it'd be that. A few extra scenes scattered in where Austin and Chloe simply just talked and allowed us to get to know them both better as well. Chloe especially because we knew quite a bit about Austin and his family but Chloe remained mostly a mystery.
Another hiccup which wasn't a huge deal was the fact the blurb mentioned Austin was a father. Which left me wondering if I was reading the right book when about five chapters in there still was still no mention of a child, not even in Austin's personal thoughts. Eventually his daughter Emma is introduced with her mother and the past connection to her and Emma's birth actually help explain a little bit why it wasn't brought up right away but even so, I think it was odd that not even in Austins private thoughts from his POV that being a father was never mentioned beforehand.
So I was really enjoying this book. Seriously, I loved everything about it. Then the author went and did something irritating with the ending that overrode all my happy feelings.
I'll start with the good points. I loved the story. The writing was great, the humour was on point, and the banter and tension between Chloe and Austin was amusing. I loved how Austin pushed the boundaries. His comments were funny and well-timed. Similarly, I liked Chloe and I enjoyed watching her fight her attraction. Together they both worked well and bounced off one another to great a likeable relationship that was surrounded by a great plot.
Honestly, I really can't fault the writing or the characters. I've never read anything by this author before and it surprised me how quickly I got through the book.
However--and this is a big however--what irritated me most was to read the epilogue of this book you have to sign up to this author's newsletter. Now, I didn't mind this. I enjoyed the book so thought what the hell, I'm happy to hear more from the author. However, after going to all of the hassle to sign up and download the book, I found it only to be a few pages. It ended up feeling like a cheap publicity trick because if you're going to write a book and extend the ending, I want at least a few chapters extra not a couple of pages that should have been in the original book to give a satisfying conclusion. I'm sorry, I'm all for subscribers getting exclusive content, but I don't expect to invest hours of my time into a book then be told to read the last few pages I have to sign up to something. Write a new book, write a spin off, hell write a short story. Don't give me a couple pages of the ending which should be included in a book so that it's a complete story you buy. I will mostly likely be unsubscribing for that.
Anyway, I wish that ending hadn't overshadowed a great read. I really enjoyed the book. I just hate it when authors use cheap marketing tactics to build a newsletter. It ruined the end of the book for me with the hassle of having to download a few pages.
Overall, loved the story and then the author ruined it. It recommend the read, but don't bother with the extended epilogue. It wasn't worth the hassle since the ending didn't add much in the way of satisfaction.
5/31/17 I should've checked the reviews before reading this. As someone who can relate to Chloe's profession, this is ridiculous so far. She clearlyndidnt do her research. " I'll have to do some diagnosis before we can figure out which one it is." It's called an evaluation not a diagnosis. Diagnosis is the actual problem/injury. Evaluation is the process of finding the main problem or injury. Check.a.dictionary. I'll update as I read more. That sentence literally stopped me in my tracks as I was reading.
Update 6/1/17
So I've finished the book and while the plot got better it had a HORRIBLE ending. The improvement of the plot would have been a solid 4 star, even if it was predictable as all get out but between the unresolved issue with Roger, the predictability, and the bad ending I cannot give it more than 3 stars, and that's being incredibly generous. I can still tell that she didn't do any research. Physical therapist programs are bow DPT programs, they also do more than give massages and she didn't once described any of the therapy sessions. Hot tubs and an ice bath do NOT fix a knee sprain. Man, this was disappointing. also regarding the ending, you literally have to go through quite a few steps to read the 3 page epilogue which is not included in the book. This was a solid 2 stars.
I think I made a mistake when I started to read this book. I didn't know this was a romantic comedy, so I took the plot seriously and then was constantly aggravated by Austin. Austin is a wide-receiver, a star in his game. He had a bad shoulder and was assigned a PT to assist in his recovery. He's a difficult patient but Chloe felt up to the task. The problem is that Austin fancied Chloe and he was accustomed to get all the girls he fancied. He kept up a campaign and poor Chloe had a hard time resisting him. Chloe had a prior bad, very bad, experience with another football player, he broke her heart and her reputation as a therapist. She was very much afraid that Austin would repeat history.
My take on the book was that Austin was selfish and felt entitled. He played all his cards to conquer Chloe, with no regard that her job was on the line. He was a good guy but for me he was clueless. Chloe tried resisting him but she was weak, very attracted to Austin. This was a disaster waiting to happen. I wan't very enthused with the development of the plot and the way things were resolved. Austin kept making mistakes and hurting Chloe and making bad decisions instead of resolving problems in an intelligent manner. . It was entertaining, but felt lacking to me.
