Jack "Preacher" Prior is at a crossroads -- literally. Left for dead in the Badlands, he's managed to survive. He's stolen a truck, but where can he go? Body broken, mind reeling from betrayal from his own MC brothers, he knows he won't last a day back in Rapid City in his current condition.

Two roads stretch out in front of him. One leads to the city and one deep into the black hills where no one knows him as the former President of the Badlands Buzzards. Revenge is not a question; it's an absolute. Preacher will get his due soon enough or die trying.

Erin Walker is at a crossroads of her own. Dealt a bad hand by being the daughter of Buck Walker, ex-Rodeo Champ, she's made her own way in the world without his help. She owns Thunder Ridge Ranch outright, and she's carved out a piece of paradise for herself with her own two hands. She's not giving it up without a fight, but she's alone in the world with no one to trust.

In Erin, Preacher finds something that doesn't exist in his own world: a smart, fierce independent woman who sets his blood on fire. For Erin, the mysterious man who threatens her life might very well be the only one who can save it.

Can Preacher put aside his desire for revenge against his old MC and accept what's in front of him: a woman who needs him and a future worth having? Erin knows in her heart that Preacher is a bad, dangerous man, but can she trust him anyway?

Not every choice is theirs to make, though, and in Rapid City the past never stays buried.

I originally read Shooter (HERE is my review for that one if you are interested) - another book by this author that apparently has Preacher as a background character - a while back; however, I have NO recollection of said "cameo" and no real recollection of that book in general. In fact, according to GR, I finished that thing in January of 2014.

Which might have well been the English Regency period as long ago as that feels.

Actual depiction of me reading that book:

description

Obviously, my highlight game was suffering here as evidenced by my lack of bottle blonde.

Anyway, that truly might as well have been a million years ago as far as I'm concerned, being that I have LITERALLY read close to 700 books since then.

My point?

1) This book can be read as a standalone.
2) I didn't remember anything about Preacher or what a complete and utter asshat he was.

He was a totally disgusting asshole at the beginning of this book...

description

...which made his character progression throughout this story even more delicious.

If you like anti-hero books and situations where the H and h are "forced" to live together, this is your kind of book.

The MC doesn't really play a major role here at all if you are someone who doesn't love reading about that life. I AM someone who loves reading about that life - which was why I picked this up, as it was on my friend Bev's (thanks Bev!) MC shelf - but I didn't feel played for not really getting any of that here.

I really liked the h here too. Whenever the lead h avoids being a TSTL airhead, I consider that a win.

In short, I really loved this book and will probably go back and read more from this author.

Except for Tex, which I heard is a bdsm-ish train wreck gone bad.

Re-read

Just re-read Snake by Lilly Atlas and I remembered that Preacher was a darker, more action packed version of the same kind of story and it definitely packed more ominous vibes than the other.

Review for the other book here: Snake
While the story starts and develops differently, the premise/theme of redemption through love is the same in both.

I find myself in the mood for this kind of story: Anti-hero male lead finds himself at a crossroads and must decide if he wants to continue on the same path as before or learn to grow and accept change. (in previous books set in the same universe, the guy was portrayed to be an absolute asshole without morals of any kind)

The change of heart in our anti-hero is started because of *drumrolls* ... a woman of course.

I like the concept and execution here.

If all that sounds appealing, I definitely recommend this one. You don't have to read any other books to get the story in this one.

“You make me want a life I can’t have. A life I don’t deserve.”

If Nicholas Sparks wrote a motorcycle porno the end result might be something a bit like Preacher. I know I know I know . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

I should not have enjoyed this . . . but I did. Sorry not sorry. It was just so different from the other MC books I’ve been gorging myself on recently. Mainly because it had a little something you may have heard of called a plot. Also because Spring has sprung and my weekends consist of pretty much THIS . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

Which is different from the way I normally spend my free time . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

Making for the perfect excuse to partake in some additional motorbiking bangery.

Jack “Preacher” Price never saw what was coming when his motorcycle club turned on him and left him for dead outside Rapid City. He takes shelter in the first place he comes across – a barn owned by Erin Walker. Erin needs help keeping her ranch up and running, Jack needs a place to heal before he returns to Rapid City for revenge so the two strike up an uneasy partnership. As their mutual attraction grows, Jack tries to fight it – to no avail . . . .

Palm Springs commercial photography

As I said, this one might have simply been a case of “right place/right time” but for whatever reason it really worked for me and took my mind off the gale force winds and being pummeled by dirt blowing across the infield. I found the story to be interesting, the pacing to be decent and the smexytimes? Goodgodamighty!!!!!

Palm Springs commercial photography

After all . . .

“Lucifer was the most beautiful of all the angels.”

I’m the first of my friends to read this, which is really weird ‘cause y’all know I have buddied up to a bunch of perverts and it was a freebie when I picked it up. I’ll be reading this one next . . . .

Loved it! The story was really well put together: a rather douchey president of an MC (😂)finds redemption hiding out on a horse ranch owned by a sweet, yet determined heroine.

Well worth the read - even if you're like me and you tend to avoid books about MC's.

Wow. What can I say? This book was beyond my expectations and was definitely a story outside of the norm for the biker genre. I loved it. I felt like the author was a great story teller who held me captivated from page one and through to the end. The flow and pace of the story never let me down.

Jack is the President of his motorcycle club. Until one night, when he's betrayed and left for dead. Some how, he manages to beat the odds and finds himself at a run down ranch. Erin lives on her own and is trying to prove to herself, and the town, that she can make a go of building her ranch up and become the best horse rehabilitator around. Things aren't going well for her and they get even worse when Jack explodes onto the scene. Or, at least that's how it starts, as he terrorizes poor Erin, at first. Things take a turn for them, though, when something happens, and Jack decides to save the day. From then on, nothing will be the same or go down the way Jack had planned. Funny how life can throw a wrench, be a game changer, and save your life.

I loved how Ms. West combined the two worlds of a Biker and a Rancher. She did a great job at making Jack's life this rough, tough, mean biker life as she made the life of Erin's just as hard but well executed when it came to the rancher/horse rehabilitator. Or so I thought, at least. Neither lifestyle was a piece of cake and she definitely didn't shy away from giving them challenges - nor did she glorify their lifestyles.

When Jack and Erin's two worlds collide- it's not pretty. It was terrifying and violent. But these two lost and broken souls would soon learn that they needed what the other had to offer, and soon they find themselves in a grey area of life when they start a relationship. I'm so happy that this book was NOT an instant love story. Jack and Erin had hurdles to over come, and they certainly had to work up to any kind of relationship- friendship, romantic, trust, and even just co-existing around each other.

Jack wasn't hearts and flowers- in fact, he wasn't even a sweet lover. He was real, and raw, and you just take him as you can get him. He does what he knows and it will take Erin to show him that he can be a different man when it came to her. I thought the 'love' scenes were done pretty well- not over the top or overly drawn out. I liked how Jack stayed true to himself, even when he did soften up a bit. You can't totally change an Alpha, demanding, man. Especially in the bedroom.

Ms. West was also really great at adding humor to this story. I couldn't get enough of Jack and his conversations with Bee, King, Julio, and Duke. Which happen to all be animals on Erin's property. I like to think of the horses, Bee & King, the rooster- Julio, and the dog- Duke, in this manner:
Duke- wanted to imitate and follow Jack to the ends of the earth
Bee- sweet on Jack
King- an A-hole to Jack but totally was like Jack in horse form
Julio- wanted to fight Jack at all cost

But seriously, the scenes with Jack and Julio were the best. I loved how Jack could put King in his place, and doted on Bee. But I really loved how Jack was with Duke, and the things he taught him and how he would talk to him, which just made me laugh when he would plan tactics against Julio- just to get eggs, or when someone came on to the property that he didn't really like.

And last but not least, I liked Chris and his 'club' of army men, who he served with. Apparently they have their own series: Burnout. I hadn't realized I read Chris' story, until I read another review. I'm sad to say I wasn't a fan, according to my rating, of Chris' book- but I sure plan to give the rest of the crew a try.

What I loved about this story:
1. No instant love
2. Jack and Erin having to work and build a relationship.
3. Jack's second chance on everything in life.
4. Jack and Chris' relationship and the way it resolved.
5. Jack's conversations with the ranch animals. THE BEST part of the book, for me.
6. Combining the biker and rancher lifestyle
7. Great pacing and flow
8. Not being able to put this story down
9. Even though the story was long, it didn't feel like it. I really appreciated that the author didn't bog the story down with descriptions of: people, clothing, food, buildings, decor, sex scenes, or even having the character think - over think- or live in their heads. The inner monologue was kept to a minimum.
10. Steamy scenes were just the right amount and not over done or over the top
11. Even though there were curse words, it wasn't overly done and I was able to enjoy the story without those words over taking the story.
12. Jack was protective of what's his and he will do what it takes- at all cost. He was a one man show at one point.

The only thing I wish I had had an answer to was something that happens towards the end of the book. Jack learns about something, something Erin hadn't had a chance to tell him yet, and we don't get to see how he actually learned about it or his reaction to it when he does learn of it on his own. That's my biggest regret of this book.

Over all, fantastic story and I'm super happy I read it. I loved that it was a different take of the biker world. Well done, Ms. West. You have a new fan in me, and I can't wait to see what comes next in this wonderful series.

The other books I read by this author were just okay for me but this book was really good. The hero was not a good man but we see him change over the story to a person who is a better person. He is still not necessarily a good person but he is the right person for the heroine. The story really sucked me in, I liked both the leads. The heroine was a strong, likable person who started her own horse therapy business. The hero found a reason to live when he found the heroine and her way of life, it was really nice seeing him start to realize he could have more out of life than what he settled for before.

Overall, this was a well-written romance that really drew me in and kept me turning the pages. I am glad I gave this author another chance.

Okay. When you first start Preacher you are going to think that this man is one irredeemable dickhead and you are going to want to DNF this book. Push on. Why, you ask? Because Jack “Preacher” Prior is the elusive unicorn of the man world. So rare you will probably never meet one in your lifetime. I’m talking about the kind who starts out as the worst type of man you can find, a waste of air really, who then changes completely because of the love of a good woman.

I cannot begin to tell you how much of an ass he was. A 1% biker, he was a drunk, liked his drugs, and liked to bang lots of women but did not care one bit if they got anything out of the deal. It was all about him. He was king of his world until a couple of his supposedly loyal subjects decided to overthrow his regime and he is left for dead in the badlands.

Fighting death he manages to stumble across Erin’s struggling ranch and seeks refuge. At first things don’t go well for Preacher, as although wounded, he still suffers from a serious case of assholitis. Then he does something that shows that somewhere buried deep inside he had a heart. Eventually, he changed my opinion of him completely, redeeming himself to the extent of making me laugh at his interactions with the animals. In fact, the conversations he had with the animals were almost as good as his conversations with actual people.

Erin was a great heroine. She was struggling to realize her dream even though there was a long line of people hoping she would fail, some going so far as to do some pretty underhanded things to bring that failure along faster. Not a badass in the kick ass and take names way, but unbelievably tough and determined even when she was faced with some pretty crappy situations. And she was far from stupid which to be honest I was a bit worried about when I read the synopsis to the book. Ignorant to whom she had allowed into her life, she was wary but decided to let the way he treated her guide her opinion of him.

No insta-love to be found, Jack and Erin had a slow build relationship that made my heart smile. Lots of time goes by before they hit the sheets. Jack’s character turnaround did not include him losing the alpha side of himself so when he finally makes his move, I had to read what he said twice. It was hot. Kind of alphahole hot, but hot nonetheless.

Alas, there is still some revenge to be had and reality intrudes. The book ends with a bang, and even a few booms, just as gritty as it began. I can honestly say I did not expect things to end up as they did. I didn’t like the first part of the book, but the rest of it wouldn’t have been near as sweet without it. Oh, and the epilogue is pretty nice too.

Spice’s rating: 4.5 Maybe Miracles Can Happen (well in books at least) Stars.

Well! What a surprise this was. I read Shooter way back when then didn’t continue with the series because I was totally put off Tex’s book. After finishing Preacher I’m thinking I need to revisit the Burnout series, sans Tex – I can’t go there.

I went into Preacher expecting an MC book, and whilst it started out that way the story wasn’t about the MC. Instead I got a fabulous story of growth and redemption. Jack “Preacher” Prior is the epitome of a violent, self-absorbed, harsh 1%’er who was drinking and drugging himself into self destruction. After being left for dead by his MC “brothers” who betrayed him, he finds himself on Erin’s run-down ranch. And this is where his story of redemption begins. And it was fabulous to experience as it unfolded.

Erin was a great heroine. Strong, with a marshmallow centre; tough when needed but still feminine and a fighter. Despite the odds stacked against her she was determined to make her own way in the world.

I absolutely loved the slow build of their relationship, there was nothing at all rushed about it and yet not once did I feel the story dragged, instead it flowed beautifully. Once they got together the heat was intense. Jack – you dirty man!

Despite the slow build of their relationship, when things needed kicking up a notch Ms. West didn’t mess about. Revenge is a dish best served cold and oh man - did Jack ever get his revenge! I don’t remember Chris (Shooter) from his book, but their history is explained in the book. And I love how he, along with his crew, stepped in to help Jack.

All this was topped off with a fab little epilogue and some seriously funny moments with Julio the rooster.

This is an offshoot of West's "Burnout" series. I gave that bundle 3 stars overall with the last book garnering 4 stars. As I said in that review, I think her writing has gained maturity over time and this book shows it as it hit the spot on multiple levels.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read this one because Jack Prior AKA Preacher is a cold blooded killer. He's the president of a "one percenter" outlaw MC and we see him in his murderous glory in the very first book of the Burnout series ("Shooter"). Unapologetic, remorseless, criminal, drug dealer, murderer, loan shark. He's described as good looking in that book, but that's about all he's got going for him.

The other thing we know going into this -- if the other series is read first, although I don't think it's necessary -- is that Jack and Chris (AKA Shooter) were best friends growing up until Chris enlisted in the Army and went on to get a degree and become an officer and a Ranger. What we learn early in this book is how much Jack has missed his friend over the years. Chris completely cut the MC out of his life and that meant cutting Jack out as well and we see in an early scene how it still bothers him.

So that gave me a tiny bit of sympathy. A tiny bit. The other thing we know is that Jack may not have been born to the outlaw MC life but he was raised in it from a very young age. He was totally indoctrinated from his single digit years. It really seems to me that the only inkling of decency he encounters in his life comes from watching his former best friend from afar. And Jack is very good at learning by watching. Which is why he's such a good outlaw, but also why he's capable of making the changes he needs to make in order to be good enough for Erin.

Erin owns a ranch for rehabilitating injured horses. She's just starting out and the going is tough. The last thing she needs is a stranger coming in and basically holding her hostage in her own home. With everything we know about Preacher and everything that happens in their first meeting, how's the romance angle going to work out?

Well ... it does. It just works. I fell in love with Jack right alongside Erin and I fell in love with Erin right alongside Jack. They just work together. I won't give more detail since the unfolding of the story is so nice I don't want to spoil any of it.

Jack kills a lot of people in this book. Not one of them is more than a burden on the planet, though, so that's something, but there is some extreme violence. There is also the MC life and its' typical, basic outrages.

So far this has been my favorite read of all West's books. I think it can be read as a standalone, but it might be easier to understand where things are starting from if Shooter is read first. There is a timeline, but it's not crucial, IMO.

I said in my review of the Burnout bundle that I think West is a good writer and getting better. This book is further evidence of that and I think she's definitely one to watch.

I have a huge list of books waiting to be read but as soon as I found this one it went straight to the top of my list.
It's an interesting read it starts with Jack 'Preacher' Prior the president of the Badlands Buzzards MC and while he likes the position and being in charge he's become jaded and dulled by the life he leads, too many drugs booze and easy women.
I wasn't sure just how much I was going to like Jack, actually that's not true as he was at the beginning I didn't really like him at all but as we know from the blurb all this changes.
The beginning of the book gives us a glimpse into the MC and it's not good, it's fractured with his own brothers turning against him and Jack finds himself beaten shot and left for dead in the Badlands. Knowing in his current state he wouldn't stand a chance if he returned to Rapid City he steals a truck and heads away to recover and get his head together.
Erin Walker has been dealt a bad hand but she's fighting it with everything she's got, she's alone with no one she can trust and this weighs a person down. She owns Thunder Ridge and knows exactly what to do with it but how can she succeed when it seems as if everyone's against her including her own father.
When Jack and Erin meet two different worlds meet, he's never come across a woman like her and in Jack has Erin finally found a man she can trust?
I really liked that this wasn't an insta love the more time these two spend together the more they build up mutual respect and attraction and we can see the change in Jack, he becomes more like the man he could have been had his life been different.
The book changes completely and while we know you can't escape your past it's nice to see not only Jack and Erin getting closer but Jack with Bea, King, Duke and especially Julio, I loved this part but just as we're getting settled Jack's past finds him and now it's a case of who'll be left standing at the end.
This is an interesting book and it works and works really well, it's the first book I've read by this author and I was surprised to find not only does she have a lot of books out but they include the 'Burnout' series featuring Chris and his interesting group of brothers-in-arms so I might have to check them out.

Can I give this book more than 5 stars? I really want to write one of my very long reviews that spoils the story and tells you exactly why this is one of the best romances this year, but I don't want to take away any of the goodness that I experienced reading this book without reading any spoilers. It's not your usual biker/MC romance that is all about the club, brotherhood, club whores, etc. It's about a man denied love his whole life and who finds a good woman. Along the way he realizes he really wasn't living, just existing. A beautiful love story about a woman who brings out the best of a man and a man that finally realizes what is important in life. If you are an animal lover you'll laugh out loud many times with Jack's ongoing fight with Julio the rooster as well as Jack using Duke, the dog, to plot the downfall of Julio, the little pimp rooster. A beautiful story with rich characters and some very funny LOL moments. Love this book and will read it again.

Note: If you have not read Shooter I would suggest that you read it. It's free on Amazon and it's one of my all time favorites that I have read more than once. Jack (the H in this book) is introduced in that book. It's not necessary to read it first but some of those characters show up in Preacher.

Solid 4.5 Stars

It took me awhile to get through this one. Not because it was boring or too long, but because I committed the ultimate Reader's Sin... I rushed into reading this book, knowing full well that I wasn't in the mood for an MC read. Thus, me stopping and starting this read, moving to older books I was in the mood to re-read etc.., while placing this one aside time and time again.

But FINALLY! I got myself back on track and came back to Jack "Preacher" Prior & Erin and fell utterly in love with them. This one is a great read. Loved it. The parallels you find within this book, the other side of the same coin type of tones you get here, very poignant.

Deep in it's simplicity. I truly love this story. And I highly recommend that you read it.

Happy Reading :)

It has been a while since I read a good satisfy MC romance. When I picked up Preacher I have a high hope the story would be gritty and dark. And the sex is hot and dirty.

Well, I got the sex part but not dark and gritty story. In fact the story is more like a MC hero goes into vacation in a ranch. He adjusting to his new life and met a woman who he ends up fall in love.

Although there are some funny part during this so called vacation, I need more dark twisted story plot.

Overall this is an OK book. I managed to finish listening to the audio book.

It’s an excellent read! ❤️

I’m not in the mood to write a review, but I read this book because of Bev’s review here.

However this scene probably will give you little bit glimpse of Jack’s character and sweet Erin by her side 😘

Without thinking, Jack slid his hand over Erin’s belly, imagining he could feel something there.

“And the baby?” Erin asked. “What about Astrid? If it’s a girl.”

Jack winced. “What? Ass-turd?”

She pushed back from him, eyes flashing.
“That’s not what I said!”

He held up his hands. “Kids are kids,” he told her. “And kids are assholes. If you name a girl Astrid, she’ll be Ass-turd her whole life.”

She opened her mouth to argue, apparently thought better of it, and gave an annoyed sigh. “Okay. You’re right.”

Jack pulled her close again, not liking it when she was this close and he wasn’t touching her. He held her while the wind kicked up and made waves in the thick grass. “Dakota,” he said quietly. “For a boy or a girl.”

Erin hesitated for a moment and then nodded. “I like it.”

I like these two very much and want to read Chris’s story too, now!:)

4 Preacher Loving Stars!!

Jack "Preacher" Prior is the President of the Badlands Buzzards MC who was betrayed by his MC brothers and left for dead. Jack's journey back to the living is intense, heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the same time.

Erin Walker is the owner of a small rehab horse ranch, she loves what she does but it seems nothing is going well for her, however she determined to make her rehab ranch a success!! Then her world tilts with a betrayal and a mysterious wounded stranger who comes to her aid when needed. Jack winds up staying on the ranch to help Erin out but more importantly heal.

Jack is cold and distant, and determined not to form attachments, especially to Erin. He is also determined to heal to exact revenge on everyone who betrayed him. Needless to say, the longer he’s on the ranch and around Erin things change between them and soon she’s under his skin.

 photo PicsArt_1474433337721_zpsadkgwoxy.jpg

When its discovered that he is still alive, the Buzzards attempt to take care of him once and for all and unfortunately Erin gets caught up in his troubles, and that’s when she learns exactly how ruthless and cold he can be.

I really enjoyed this book, I don’t normally read MC books but this is not your run of the mill MC book, it’s not dark and gritty (not that it was all sappy sweet!) so it totally worked for me plus we get a fantastic epilogue.

I originally"met" Preacher in two previous books by this author, both times he was a complete and utter asshole but I very much wanted to read about him and...... I wasn't disappointed at all! I loved this book so much!

Preacher's mc has turned against him, he's beaten, shot and was supposed to die but one of his guys didn't go through with it (we find out later he's an undercover agent). Preacher manages to make his way to a farm where he meets Erin. He takes her hostage but when he has to help her get rid of a body Preacher finds himself settling down to ranch life with a temperamental horse and a rooster that hates him but with a woman he soon comes to love.

Erin is struggling to keep her dreams a reality. She's bought her own farm next door to her father and is trying to make it on her own, but with a building that's many years old and a foreman who seems to be working against her things aren't going well. When Preacher arrives she's just fired her traitor foreman. When he returns and attempts to rape her she bashed his head in with a rock. As Preacher gets rid off the body a tentative bond is formed. As Erin gets to know Jack though she envisions a future with the man who originally barged into her home and threatened her. But Preacher left enemies behind and when they show up he has to leave Erin behind.

Now this is shelved as mc but the actual mc only appear as the bad guys. This is more of Preacher's life on the farm. It's told in four parts and at the begining Preacher is a detestable character. He was taken down because he was drunk, high and looking to fuck. He's used women for years and never cared whether or not they enjoyed themselves. I cringed at his internal thoughts many times but as the story progresses Preacher's change is a thing of beauty to behold.

Erin may be one of my favorite h's I've read in a while. She was strong, determined and more than held her on with the hard ass that was Preacher. I loved her.

There were funny moments, sweet moments, sexy moments and gruesome moments as Preacher eradicated his former mc associates to ensure Erin's safety. Previous characters appear here with Slick again charging into someone's business. My absolute most favorite thing in a romance novel happens here and it was the dessert to a very fulfilling read. Preacher's grovel at the end about made my damn year! This book shot straight to my favorite of the year so far and though I've had some serious disasters with some of this author's work I've got no complaints with this one!

I picked up Preacher a few years ago for free and like so many before and after, it was forgotten and lost in my Kindle Library graveyard. That was until my GR friend read it and loved it that I decided to give it a try. Preacher was my first read from this author but definitely not my last, I loved it from beginning to end. Jack 'Preacher' Prior is not a good man, he has lived a violent life and has lost himself along the way. This is how he is betrayed not once but twice and it was a serious wake up call. His first interaction with Erin was far from romantic but as the story progresses their relationship starts to heal and change him in ways that even surprise Jack. Erin was a strong, hard working, loving woman and I loved everything about her. The last part of the story we really get to see how violent Jack is and how they should have all just left him to live his life in peace. I look forward to reading the stories of the men we met and lucky me Shooter is also on my kindle.

What a crazy ride. It was like John Wick, but romantic.
There's redemption and tight action and two people who would normally never cross paths, falling in love. Neither of them being particularly familiar with the emotion in the first place!

They don't meet til 15% in and DW wasn't pulling her punches when she wrote this.
Before they meet, I was not feeling at all sympathetic towards Jack. He seemed like he'd made his bed but was too clever to lie in it.
Erin though, I was feeling pretty worried for her. She has gumption but the deck was stacked against her.
Then they meet and by 1/3 in I was so sold on their dynamic.

It's a book for those who like anti-heroes and heroines who believe in themselves no matter what.
No insta love or even insta attraction. But boy, was my heart melting at the end.
Wonderful epilogue!!!

Oh yeah, and there's cameos with the 'Burnout' gang. (That wasn't a series I continued after Shooter. So if you weren't into those stories either, you may like this one. It has a LOT less push and pull and no OW crap.)

This was real good I really enjoyed it and Jack’s character development was done so well. Erin was also a very likable character she always stood up for what she wanted which was great. I felt the love between them too and rooted for them until the end.

This wasn’t the darkest MC romance I’ve read because their wasn’t really that much MC elements present here but I found myself enjoying it anyways. It was the character development and love between Jack and Erin that I loved.

Lovely story except for the hokey horse parts. I'll come back to that. So here is a really bad guy who meets a nice woman and changes for the better. There were some lovely parts especially at the end where he begs her not to abort his baby. Not that she was going to but he didn't know that. I loved that the guys back in Rapid City got to see that Jack had changed for the better. The romance was great.

There were a couple of problems though. First I don't think the fact that she killed a man affected her as much as it should have.

And second no book is going to get 5 stars from me when the horse errors are so many and so vast. Here's my rant and if you regularly read my reviews you've probably heard it before. Although every author messes it up in a different way. First all stallions are not unmanageable and if this stallion was a champion roping horse then he was well trained and would not have been particularly scary or unmanageable for a knowledgeable person. Second as I said in my update, stallions have zero interest in fighting with mares. If the mare is in season, he will breed her. If she is not he will just take charge of her and maybe boss her around a bit. This is not fighting. Third, large animal vets make house calls. That's what they do. Except in rare cases you don't take your horse to the vet, they come to you. They have portable x-ray equipment for legs even. They don't expect you to bring your animal to them, especially for a check up. Fourth that mare Bee is stated as being 4 years old. She couldn't have been injured, rehabilitated and then been on the barrel racing circuit long enough to earn money to buy a ranch by the time she was 4. Not happening. Fifth and just a little pet peeve, you shouldn't feed a horse a whole apple. It can get stuck in their throats. Again knowledgeable horse people cut it into fourths. It's safer. Most horse people and barns have knives about. It's just about ease and function. You got something to cut an apple or the strings off a bale of hay. Faster and simpler than pulling the strings off. Useful for many other things as well. Lastly if the horses had been left a day without feed and water there was zero likelihood that there was any hay left at all in their racks. So many little errors add up. Gosh darn it. just research. And make sure you ask a couple of people in the business just in case the first person is not as knowledgeable as they assume.

I'm sorry to rant so much but lack of research irks me. Not just about horses but about any topic. If it's worth writing about, it's worth researching so you don't annoy readers. I'm sure that everyone feels the same about the things they are knowledgeable about. I don't mind a few errors but...

DNF at 47%

This must probably be the first book that I've left unfinished in my life. I have severe OCPD, I can't leave anything incomplete, let alone books. But this was terrible, and I may have reached my limits with this. That said, I know it isn't fair to rate a book that I haven't finished, but I think the very fact that I DNFed it is enough to prove that it's a shit book. It was too rapey, and I couldn't even bring myself to feel all pissy about it, because the sex scenes were laughable at best. Don't ask me to explain how the scenes could be both laughable and rapey, they just were.

It's just that some people can write, and some cannot. Ms. West definitely falls in the latter category.

I'm not sure if I would rate this one a 3 1/2 or a 4, I liked this book and wanted to keep reading overtime I put this book down but it had a few things that just rubbed me wrong. But after saying that I think I am just so busy in RL that I am almost burnt out and so everything right now is just mm because this has the many things in a book that I would love. I really liked the characters(even that dad) and of course all the animals. This book is almost the opposite side of a MC book and it was new and interesting because very few authors(that I have read) have went to this side of the MC story.

I really liked this book. A former biker president out for revenge ends up at a horse ranch in the middle of nowhere and falls for the owner. I liked how most of the book was them out at the ranch getting to know each other. I liked how he changed to be a better man for her.

It reminded me a lot of this author's book, Shooter, and was a great read. The funny parts with Julio the chicken made me laugh too.

I recommend this as a good "biker light" book.

Holy shit! Chickens could fly?!

Jack “Preacher” Prior, a stereotype biker, hard drinker, drug-user, and likes to bang lots of women focusing only on his needs and couldn't care less if the women got off. It was all about him, being king of his world. He managed to unravel a conspiracy amongst his subjects that would have resulted in his assassination. Feeling all invincible he didn’t realized that he did not got all the plotters and that another attempt was coming his way. The conspirators, on the hunt for money, easily drugged him, beat him up and he is left for dead in the Badlands. Somehow Jack managed to survive, steel a truck, and ended up Erin Walker’s barn barely alive.

Erin Walker, a qualified equine rehabilitator and owner of the dilapidated Thunder Ridge farm. His is severely wounded but still tries to use intimidation and scare Erin. But when he saves her from an utterly horrible situation she starts to trust him.Having trouble with her farm help, Erin gladly accepts Jack's offer to stay and fixed things. They starts to be comfortable towards each other and end up having sex, hot sex!

They start to work side-by-side, Jack fixes things around the barn and the house and Erin works with the rehabilitation of stallion King and Erin starts to falls for Jack.
Jack still seeking for revenge is not able to give into his feelings, but when his former life comes trashing down on them he takes off.

The story was not so much about the MC's but more about the budding relationship between Jack & Erin and life on the farm. Even at the end, when Jack gets his revenge, it is not about the biker's club. When Jack, with the help of his best and only friend, finally is able to admit his feelings it made me smile since Jack is such an alpha male.
And the adventures he has on the farm, in such big contrast to his President of the Badlands Buzzards's life, sometimes had me laughing out loud.

Nice romance story, with a bit of the MC's gang life written with humor.

Yesterday’s ride had been hell on his body, but Jack had the feeling that this ride…would be heaven.

this had a TON of problematic stuff (for example the heroine refers to abortions as dead babies. yikes.) and stuff i didn't care for (mostly the MC drama and *that* trope). but the hero's redemption arc was so great that I couldn't not give this anything below 4 stars on GRs.

Dahlia West is another first time author for me and I love her writing style!

This wasn't your run of the mill MC romance. The hero is dark and reminded me a little of Anne Stuarts male leads. Loved the heroine as well.

Wow!! The book was really really good!! Preacher's growth and redemption is just beautiful to read. He may not be a good man at the start but he worked his way to become a better man.

No cheating
The writing was tight
The drama made sense

I loved everything about this book!!
