Capturing Kate

Rate this book
Sparks fly when a feisty reporter and a dominant undercover FBI agent spend a week alone together.

Journalist Kate Klein knows reporting on a powerful businessman’s disregard for the safety of the local water supply was a dangerous assignment, but she is nonetheless shocked when she is taken captive, bound, and brought to a remote cabin.

Her gruff yet undeniably handsome captor turns out to be a man named Sloan Masters who claims he is an undercover FBI agent investigating the same organization she has been trying to expose. Kate is unsure whether Sloan can be trusted, but he makes it clear that he plans to do whatever is necessary to protect her, whether she likes it or not. If keeping her safe requires taking her over his knee for a stern punishment to ensure her obedience, then so be it.

When Kate keeps some critical information from Sloan, a long, hard spanking on her bare bottom quickly proves that his warning was not a bluff. To her surprise, however, the painful, embarrassing chastisement leaves Kate not only promising to be good but also yearning for Sloan to take her in his arms and claim her thoroughly.

Sloan’s skilled, dominant lovemaking is unlike anything Kate has ever experienced before, and she finds her desire for him growing more intense by the hour, but she cannot help wondering if she is just a means to an end for him. When something goes terribly wrong and the entire investigation is put in jeopardy, can Sloan prove to Kate that she belongs to him no matter what?

Publisher’s Note: Capturing Kate is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Alexis Alvarez writes romances - some are light-hearted contemporary romances; others delve into the exotic world of domination and submission.

Her female heroines are strong-willed women who are never push-overs, and who can hold their own in society and the workplace, but who are intrigued with the idea of kink and submission in the bedroom. Alexis writes with skill and poetry, creating worlds that are both dark and erotic and, at times, humorous and light.

Alexis is a writer, photographer, gourmet cook, former engineer, and mom. She likes other things besides BDSM fiction, and some of them include snorkeling, lemon bars, thunderstorms, and laughing so hard with her sisters and brother that her stomach hurts.

I've never read a book with a more curious, feisty, willfully disobedient heroine than this. OMG Alexis, Kate is cray!

I also didn't read the blurb, so I have no idea if what I'm writing is a spoiler or not. I'll hope it's not.

Kate's a reporter investigating lead poisoning in the water. She meets handsome stranger in the coffee shop. And it's a really bad day because she ends up getting kidnapped and taken to a safehouse with, spoiler, handsome stranger from the coffee shop, who is working for the FBI.

His name is Sloan and he is YUMMY.

But I think that the thing that really sets this book apart is the heroine. Since she's a reporter, she's constantly asking questions. She has an almost wacky sense of humor and a mouth that just keeps talking. And it's hilarious. When asked how she's feeling, she responds, "How do you think? I'm shell-shocked, I have PTSD even though we're not even in the P part of the situation ... She paused. "How about you, honey [to the FBI captor]? Sleep well?"

The other thing that sets this book apart is the richness and uniqueness of the language. An example I liked, describing the weather: "An angry sky cat with a deep, wide throat, sending out gusty growls that tore into the wood with acid and screaming saws."

This is a spanking book, with lots of it. (Also unusual uses for ginger root.) So it's off the charts hot. It's also well-written, quirky, engaging, and different. Check it out!

This is a pleasant enough read where the punishments were consensual. The first one skated the line of dub-con but I gave it a pass as I felt that Kate didn't really put up much of a fight to avoid it.

Whilst the book is written third person, the perspective is always Kate's, so I did feel as though I got to know her more than I did Sloan. I liked them both, even though Kate's behaviour was described in a very childish way a couple of times. I'm not sure if the author was trying to convey just how emotionally distressed and 'off-kilter' Kate felt but it didn't quite work when she described her stamping her feet etc. Maybe it was to show she was a brat? shrug

The story was entertaining, the plot was engaging and the pace kept things moving forward. It didn't have the depth that I need to give a 4 or 5 star rating, but it isn't a bad book either. It's a nice, low-angst, 'spanking' romantic suspense that fills a couple of hours.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to dive head first into Capturing Kate since I am huge fan of Alexis Alvarez's writing. She always teaches me a thing or two about the dom/sub world that I didn't know when I began reading and knocks my socks off with her amazing heroes and heroines, great story, and steamy scenes! This time she takes us into a world of bullets, deception, and intrigue and introduces us to Sloan, Kate, and their special brand of kinkiness. Sloan and Kate bring the heat, the danger, and the pain in ways that keep the reader enthralled and eagerly anticipating more!

Kate is feisty, constantly curious, and doesn't listen well to authority. She finds herself constantly in danger or trouble with adrenaline pumping fear from a reign of bullets or her bottom red, nose in the corner, and filled with unquenchable desire. She kept me entertained and I absolutely loved her big heart, inquisitive mind, and her ability to push Sloan at every turn. Alexis never fails to bring a strong willed, defiant heroine to her knees with an amazing leading man that doesn't change her but helps her find a new stronger sense of self.

Sloan is a dark hero that Kate couldn't help but fall for. He is cloaked in mystery and loneliness that she couldn't resist unwrapping and having a bite or two of. He had me by the heart and libido from the moment I met this tall, dark, and handsome hero in the cafe and got up and close and personal in the cabin. He is complicated, stern, compassionate, and mouth watering delicious with his firm hand, striking belt, dirty mouth, and other yummy body parts.

Alexis Alvarez delivers another panty melting, palm stinging read that takes us to a secluded cabin where a headstrong reporter and an ovary bursting FBI agent set our world on fire and keep our hearts pounding from beginning to end. I highly recommend for a read that will draw you in and have you submitting to the intricate story, leave you bound to the characters, keep you riveted to the action, and while enjoying every minute! Capturing Kate kept me captivated and reading at break neck speed, trying to memorize every scorching scene between Kate and Sloan and anticipate every twist and turn of the case.

This is the first book I've read by Alexis Alvarez, and it certainly won't be my last.

A feisty reporter + a dominant undercover FBI agent = Holy Spanky fireworks.

While investigating a story about a local water treatment plant, Kate finds herself involved in a bigger issue. Kidnapped and handed over to an oh so dominant FBI agent, Sloan won’t hesitate to do whatever he needs to protect Kate, spanking included.

I had so much fun reading this book. Kate cracked me up. She was insane. Somewhere between the ginger and the babbling, I ended loving her. Sloan, the master, the dark hero. I loved him and his belts. He was perfect for Kate. It was impossible not to see the chemistry between them, the banter, the tension. LOVED THEM.

Kinky, funny, and with a taste of suspense, Capturing Kate is a breathe of fresh air in the BDSM stories we can find out there.

Capturing Kate is a wild and crazy ride! It’s my first “ride” with Alexis Alvarez and I enjoyed the heck out of it. She delivers a well-written story that moves like it’s being chased by bad guys. Oh wait...that would be our quirky heroine, Kate. Her reporter’s curiosity has gotten her into a bit of a mess. What started out as an expose about contamination in the city’s water supply has taken an unexpected turn. I’m talking FBI and Mafia arms dealers kind of turn. There’s also plenty of humor and sexy times mixed in with the danger and suspense. Capturing Kate reminds me of a 1940’s RomCom movie; the fast-paced action is, at times, over the top in every way. It’s pure entertainment so sit back and enjoy the show.

Kate is the talented and headstrong heroine who ends up biting off more than she can chew in her pursuit of “the story”. Sloane is the FBI agent who's been working the arms dealer case that Kate inadvertently stumbles into. Well, she pretty much walks right up and rings the doorbell. It’s poor Sloane who now has to protect her by keeping her hidden away until the case is wrapped up. How hard can that be, right?

I alternately loved and hated them both. Kate has every right to be freaked and scared out of her mind. She has no idea if Sloan is who he says he is. She wants to believe him but her self-preservation mode keeps trying to wrestle its way to the front. Which makes for drama, drama, drama. Sloan would rather be anywhere else but locked up in a cabin with this wackadoodle. She may be adorable, sexy, and smart but she's still a nutcase. Unfortunately, his job is to keep her safe. Besides, he needs the info she just might hold the key to. So, what does an alpha male do with a hysterical female? Spank her of course! Sloane’s methods are sexy as all get out. He may be trying to maintain his distance emotionally but something about Kate pulls him in fast. Despite their situation, these two have some pretty fiery chemistry going on. I do have to say, Sloane’s methods of handling Kate probably cross the line of proper kinky etiquette. Just saying. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Capturing Kate. It’s action-packed, sexy, and an overall fun read.

Ok. So first off, you know when you read anything by Alexis Alvarez that it's going to be hot, hot, hot. Nobody writes sex scenes like she does. The anticipation. The build-up. The details and descriptions. Oh. My. God.

Capturing Kate is no exception. This is one of her BDSM spanky books, and there is TONS of awesome sexual tension - and release! - to read. The scenes are so hot it's impossible to put the book down.

But, like always, she also infuses the characters with so much personality that they become real on the page. So her books are sexy, but they're never just about sex. There's always so much more going on. This particular book also has the excitement and suspense of an FBI case. And the growing compassion and love between the characters.

You'll get a happily-ever-after. But the journey there is both thrilling and sexy. It's an awesome ride!

Struggled with the storyline. F.B.I don’t spank their witnesses!

I nearly gave up on this a few times but then I thought I paid £3.99 off it and persevered. It could have been a brilliant book as the storyline is good. But, I’m sorry but no F.B.I agent would punish his witness and spank her like he did!!!!! I really laughed when she wrote he shoved ginger up her arse!! I think that might be the writers fantasy! I loved her vampire book. It was hot and seemed to flow a lot better.

********SPOILER ALERT***********

Kate is a reporter who is writing a story about poisoned water. While she’s in a cafe she notices a very hot man, that she’s noticed before. Later on she goes to needy her informant about the water being toxic. The woman is terrified and three men come and grab her. One hits her and puts her in the boot. He takes her to her handsome coffee shop man who is a F.B.I agent. He puts her into protective custody. Then he threatens her if she ever lies to him of doesn’t obey him he’ll spank her???? What????? Then when he finds out she was hiding something he spanks her bare bottom. At which point I started laughing. Then it got really silly. Parts of this book were really good but parts were insane!!!!

Capturing Kate by Alexis Alvarez. Gah! I paid real money for this, too, darn it. This girl is a bratty child. I kept waiting for the super hot FBI agent to really start getting bossy, but he didn’t. At least not for what I stuck around for. Because, you guessed it, I bailed. I didn’t finish. This woman acted like a 5 year old complete with foot stomping. I kid you not. So mad that I wasted money on this. Luckily, I bought it on sale because now this “treasure” is available for purchase on Kindle for $4.95. Do NOT spend $4.95 on this. Don’t do it.

Disappointed

I expected better. The writing was fine but the heroine sounded like a very young teenager, spoiled, pouting and seemingly incapable of rational thought. I have only read the first part and am not sure if I will even finish the rest. Two stars are being generous and is strictly for the writing. The mistakes abounded in the writing mechanics and certainly did nothing to improve a reader's enjoyment of the book. I can not recommend this book for others as there are too many books that are better.

So this is an example of a nice plot idea sacrificed to a female lead who is shallow, whiny, spoiled and just unlikable. Kate needs about five years of maturing. Sloan is a typical dominant guy - more likely in his law enforcement field. I have some difficulty that he ends up liking her. I didn't. Kate is a reporter who is at risk as her target is a mafia thug, To protect her, she is kidnapped by the undercover agent who was supposed to do the deed. I had several moments where I wanted to pop her.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I liked this book, but I struggled with it a little. Let me start with the good. Kate and Sloan were likable and well developed characters. Alexis did an excellent job with the descriptions, portrayal of the emotions, and diving into the scenes. I had a clear grasp on Kate's state of mind throughout the book – the fear she felt for herself, her mom, and her friends, her irrational need to escape the situation she was in, and the longing for and confusion at her reaction to Sloan's punishments. In terms of the story line, Alexis made some smart choices. I liked that Kate didn’t blindly accept everything that happened to her. She’s smart and strong. It took a while for her to fully let go of her reservations about Sloan and trust in him, which only happened because of his compassion and caring. Alexis also did well with the character dialogue. Kate and Sloan had a few emotional talks about their lives and futures. It’s clear how difficult it would be as a FBI agent to maintain a long term relationship when you live for your job and need to uphold confidentiality. I also enjoyed the suspense aspect of the book and had wanted more. The beginning and end had the action and intrigue I was looking for.

Here’s where I struggled… While I liked the story line and the characters, the initiation of the spanking threw me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m usually all about the kink. My issue was with the fact that Sloan used spanking to discipline Kate for disobeying him and not in the normal kink/sexual way that I'm used to. Kate is injured, panicky, and scared, and Sloan decides a good way to keep her in line is to spank her. There is no discussion about what is acceptable, safe words, or limits. Also, Kate started out strong, but about halfway through, she was acting completely irrational. I understand that she’s experiencing PTSD, but I feel like she just lost her ability to think. I was annoyed with her silly rationalizations and arguments with Sloan. The only redeeming part of this is that Sloan calls her on it and she recognizes her idiocy. Thank goodness Alexis brought Kate back to herself at the end!

Kate finds herself in a very bad situation. While investigating a story about a local water treatment plant, she finds herself involved in a much bigger issue. Kidnapped for what they think she knows, she finds herself trapped in a remote cabin with a smoking hot and dominant FBI agent. FBI agent Sloan does whatever he feels his necessary to keep Kate calm and in control. That includes some smoking hot discipline and even hotter sex.

I really liked this story and both of the characters. Kate had a few moments that would make me question her sanity, but overall she was a likeable character. Sloan was a bit of a dark hero, with his brooding disposition, but he complimented Kate’s character very well. The author also worked in enough mystery and suspense to make it a book that was hard to put down. This is my first book by this author. I definitely look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Loved this so much!
I loved the premise of the story- Reporter, Kate, gets kidnapped for her own protection from a super bad guy.
Sloan, her FBI agent protector / kidnapper was so sexy and yummy and dominant and mmmmmm! I loved him so much.

I loved the chemistry and sexual tension between both of them.

The spankings he gave her were hot, sexy, hard, and consensual. I liked that addition.

They had a lot of great discussion about kink and spankings , and really went into the psychology behind what she was receiving, and I found that intriguing.

I won't give away the ending, but I will say thank God it was an HEA. (I was a bit nervous for a second there ;) )

I loved this so much and poured through it in one sitting.

Nice twists, great characters, awesome plot, fantastic D/s, yummy spankings and sex....

I loved it!

I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an advance review copy.

I liked this story. The story moves rather quickly and keeps you entertained but doesn't leave out any crucial plot points. The characters are good, though I have some issues with Sloan's methods. There is some intrigue and some violence (but nothing graphic). I would definitely read more of Alexis Alvarez's books.

Capturing Kate is about a dominant FBI agent name Sloan and a hot headed journalist name Kate. While Kate is doing her job Sloan gets wind of her in danger and intervene. While he trys to keep her in a sceret location and keep her safe kate becomes a pain in the arse. As their relationship move forward they have to struggle with the sexual tension between them while staying in close quarters.

This book is fast past and will have you turning pages real fast just to get the end.

An FBI Agent and Reporter meet in a coffee shop - what could go wrong??? This book went in a different route than I thought it would and it kept me intrigued until the very end. The relationship between Kate and Sloan takes time to develop and it's worth the slow burn. There were times when I wanted to SCREAM AT KATE to stop taking so many risks and calm down and there were times when I wanted to tell Sloan to stop with the punishments already. In the end, it all works out.

Alexis Alvarez steps it up to super hot in “Capturing Kate”. This is a sizzling kinky read with BDSM that will steam up the glasses of even the most adventurous reader. Reporter Kate Klein suddenly finds herself caught up in the midst of an FBI undercover operation. Hours after meeting sexy Sloan in her friend’s coffee shop she is dumped unceremoniously into his care. Sloan is undeniably tough and has an interesting way of keeping control of a situation. Of course Kate is already hot with desire for the super masculine FBI agent. Things progress at a nice spicy pace and there is enough of an understory to hold the readers interest. I’m not usually a fan of BDSM but I must confess I could easily be persuaded to read more if it’s as good as this book!
In addition to the sexy interplay between Kate and her captor there is a story of suspense and intrigue. Kate has inadvertently stumbled onto criminal activity and has been targeted by a threatening group of international terrorists. Even as she resists Sloan’s protection, he fights to keep her safe. What neither suspects is there is someone else who is working against them. The story builds to a thrilling climax.
I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
