New York Times bestselling author Gennita Low adds international intrigue and suspense to Liliana Hart's MacKenzie family with WICKED HOT...
A US operative/businessman had been kidnapped in Indonesia. He has a vital piece of information that would get the US government in trouble. But Indonesia is a country with with over 17000 islands, with plenty of jungles in which to hide.
Off-the book NSA fixer, Kirk Ryan, approaches his cousin, Archer, who works at MacKenzie Securities for help with tracing a phone call. He also needs a translator familiar with Indonesian. Not a problem. MacKenzie Securities' troubleshooter, Jade, has plenty of connections. In fact, there is a translator she knows who is in Indonesia right now.
Suria, GEM contract agent, really doesn't want to do anything but lie on the heated beaches of Indonesia and just enjoy her first holiday in years. But she owes Jade Jax a favor and her friend's calling it in. And the favor comes in a six-foot-two package of irresistible and wicked male. It's just a translation job. She would help and maybe get to know the man for a day or two. What could go wrong?
Jenn, as everyone calls her, likes to keep things simple. That's why she runs a roofing construction business, teaches, writes and does her own business taxes eight days a week. She considers herself a multi-cultural and well-rounded person. Workers leave her alone when she starts yelling at them in Chinese and Malay. She also studies German and Russian because she can't pronounce French very well. The most boring and interesting thing she ever did was translating documents from various languages into English, giving her an opportunity to see many countries. Having traveled extensively in her twenties, she now spends her thirties quietly with six noisy dogs. Shameless Promotion: Jenn was a RWA contest slut, having finaled in and won a bunch of them including the Marlene, the Merritt, and Indiana's Golden Opportunity. She is also a three-time finalist in the RWA Golden Heart contest before she became published. She would love to hear your comments about her books. She has been known to give away bookmarks and stuff to those who praise her.
AND, if your roof leaks, she can probably give you some advice!
Here are some wonderful writing friends of mine. I love their books! Please visit their sites and give them a try. Be careful. They are HOT WRITERS. Very addictive! Thanks--Jenn
Gennita Low is a new to me author, I was excited to see how her writing style would interact with the world Liliana Hart has already developed.
Wicked Hot is a high-octane, action packed adventure focusing on the way in which the covert missions each of the characters undertakes mesh together and affects not only their lives but the lives of those closest to them.
With multiple perspectives the narrative makes clever use of third person narration in order to keep tight control of the separate plot threads. I have to be honest and say I did feel a little lost at the start due to references to previous incidents I wasn't sure if they had appeared in Gennita's own series or not. Little snippets of information are provided on numerous characters but lacked a lot of development leaving me feeling only a surface connection to the story as a whole.
With super soldiers, assassins, spies, Navy SEALS, remote viewing, super gadgets, terrorists, hostage negotiations, black ops and conspiracy theories take up the majority of the plot with small pieces of a relationship between NSA/CIA fixer Kirk and GEM operative Surya. Little pieces of information regarding a previous interaction between Kirk and Surya provide a little understanding to the intensity of the chemistry between them.
While Wicked Hot is fast paced and adds a lot of detail to the careers of the major players in the Mackenzie series, for me it lacked the romance, heat and passion I have come to expect within the MacKenzie world.
This novella was good, action packed, intriguing, with interesting characters..so much that I was invested and wanted to know what was going to happen between the mischievous Surya and The nerdy and in control Kirk..but I was left hanging. don't get me wrong, I liked the story and it was interesting..all the spionage and navy seals and very tech inventions and investments..but the main characters and the story I was following beyween them was left as second thought..so I hope there will be a follow up on their story.
This is the first story I’ve read by Gennita Low and I liked her eye for detail. She certainly knows her stuff when it comes to spies, soldiers and Navy SEALS. I did find myself getting a little confused by the lingo at times but I enjoyed the action nonetheless.
The setting is really interesting and I liked Kirk and Surya. Their flirty banter is hilarious – smacked bottoms indeed! Plus the chemistry is hot!
The drama is face paced and high-octane. I felt as though I was on a covert mission with them and never quite knew what was going to happen next.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!
Gennita Low is another author who has been on my radar for a while but Wicked Hot was my first read by her.
Kirk and Surya are no strangers to each other although they don't realize it before they meet up for their current mission. Kirk lives a structured life that keeps him breathing in difficult situations and on tricky missions, and Surya has found a life with some stability after too many years on the streets desperate to survive. She has a mischievous streak a mile wide though and she throws his orderly existence into a disarray almost immediately. Of course he secretly loves it but he will never admit that to her!
Wicked Hot is filled with simmering sexual tension, suspense and action as they focus on the mission and let the slow burn build until it will surely combust after the mission is completed. I have to admit I felt like I missed something in a previous book when it comes to Kirk and Surya's history and I may have connected with this story a bit more if I had read it first. But even without that knowledge, Wicked Hot was still an enjoyable read with a fast paced, action packed storyline and lot of fun moments between Surya and Kirk! 3.5 stars
While telling this story, the author gives us a glimpse into the MacKenzie World closer to the time that Mary McKenzie was killed. Knowing the series has ended this is a fantastic novella for Liliana Hart Fans.
Kirk (Archer Ryan’s cousin) is a negotiator, Surya is an agent. The comedic interactions of these two were a prefect diversion from the sad telling of Mary’s Death.
Messing the two series was seamless and I never felt like I was missing anything in between. Thank you for a small glimpse of the world I have come to love.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved how Gennita incorporated the outcome of Liliana's book about Shane. Starting the book with how the family and their friends we coping with the devastating change to the family was touching. The interaction between Gennita's GEM world and the MacKenzie world flowed well and kept me intrigued, laughing and crying through out the book. This was an excellent read and I didn't want the story to end.
I was really disappointed with this book. It was my first Gennita Low ,and will be my last. I love the Mackenzie books and the other novellas have been enjoyable. This one is all thriller(ish) with no real romance going on other than some banter. Save yourself 3$ and just buy something else.
I like Gennita Low so I was excited to see this. This story was just ok for me and maybe it was because of the length but I was expecting more (especially the romance and sexy times) and I was left wanting more.
A great fast prequel. I enjoyed reading the beginning, mostly intro, collaboration and action. The romance must be yet to come under another title. This is the first I've read of Gennita Low.
I wasn’t interested in this at all and skim read. Glad to be on the last of the series, had enough now but my ocd doesn’t let me leave series’s half read!
Great little military suspense novella. Exceptional narration by Aiden Snow. Second chance love story was a sub plot; besides the HEA, doesn’t rise to the level of romance/romantic suspense.
Can Kirk find the traitor among the seals - once he gets to the location and sees his translator he realizes she's the one that got away and he's been looking for her.
3.5☆ I haven't read anything from this world and I think that made me a little slow to pick up in everything. Sometimes the terms got me because I wasn't really familiar with them. I did enjoy all the action and the drama it packed for being a novella. Some nice ups and downs and twists and turns. I did enjoy it, probably would have better if I was more familiar with this kind of world. Still a good novella though! *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Gennita Low, I love all of her books! I am also familiar with Liliana Hart's Mackenzie Series and was able to understand the plot better having read a few of her books. In my opinion, it is better to have read Gennita Low's previous novella: Edge of Temptation (Cristin Harber's Titan World) to get a better understanding of the plot though. Having said that, one can easily read Wicked hot as a standalone.
I have to admit though that I haven't read Scorch and might not do so, since Liliana Hart announced she would have one of her characters killed, I couldn't go on with her Series. I absolutely hate it when authors kill one of their characters. But good news, Gennita Low is helping you readers of the Mackenzie Series get closure after it ended with the death of Mary Mackenzie.
Kirk Ryan is a negotiator and a cousin in law of the Mackenzie Family, he's got to handle the release of a couple of scientists in Indonesia abducted by terrorists with the help of a few rogue Navy Seals. To do so, he needs a translator, here comes Surya who is a GEM operative and will play translator for Kirk... Starts a fast paced adventure taking place in Indonesia spiced up by a very friendly and sexy banter between the two heroes.
Without revealing anything, I have got to add that I felt a LOT of sympathy for one of the rogue Seals and want to know more about him, he deserves a book all his own ;-)
Gennita Low is a master chef at mingling her own characters in any other author's world and making them credible and that is really one of her many talents. In this novella you'll get to meet a few of her other characters like Jed McNeil (Virtually Hers) (a Cos Commando), Hawk (Hunter) and Cucumber (Warrior) (Seals), … She's got a real talent writing about super spies, Navy Seals, Women operatives, she's one of those authors who can get you hooked on a story so well written that you just can't put the book down. Even though Wicked Hot is not her usual writing style, she succeeded into picking Liliana's writing and making it her own.
In a nutshell, if I was to give you an advice though I'd say read this book, but if you want to get a better insight into Gennita Low's world read her other books and start with her COS Commando Novel: Big Bad Wolf. Read her other books, you'll really get to read her usual writing full of sass and sexy, spicy sex scenes, I promise, she never disappoints!!!
Holy-moly that was an adrenaline rush from intro to end there is not a lot more than the execution of a mission. This is another example of two established worlds getting meshed together. Kirk is a NSA fixer, and he is headed on mission to help the MacKenzie's but no good mission is without it's issues. In need of a translator, GEM agent Suria is asked to help. It just so happens that there is some history between these two.
Being that we are in the midst of established characters and stories I did find it hard at times to keep up with all of the characters and the stories that go along with them. There was very little backstory on any of the characters and we are given very little time to get to know them because there is action on top of action. I did miss the lack of a romantic element, while there is definite history there was too little time for Kirk and Suria to have any sort of fleshed out involvement.
There an interest there for me to check out where these other characters came from or where they might go, because the story and action were well written.
This was a very good story. I liked that is had the MacKenzie family. I wished this was a little longer book. But over all I will be reading more books from Gennita Low.
