Open Door Church has served as a homeless shelter for more than a decade, but when their pastor dies unexpectedly, it's up to Galen and Maggie to take up the reins and keep the ministry going, which won't be easy, as newcomers seem intent on tearing it down. And then there’s young Daniel, who seems to be working miracles in their midst, which of course, isn’t possible. Or is it?
A great 2nd book of a trilogy. This book picks up right where the first book "Open Door Church" ends but just a few year later. The child that Harmony was pregnant with is now 8 and is named Daniel. He has a profound relationship with God and is able to actually heal some folks yet always point them to God by saying he wasn't healing them, God was. There is a new pastor appointed after the original pastor, Dan, Daniel's name sake passes on due to a heart attack. This new pastor is a fraud and a money scammer......he has no time or interest in 'homeless' people and he has a 'sidekick' who is someone other than who he claims to be. There is more intrigue and 'who done its' in this 2nd book, but again God and His faithfulness is the center of the story. I am really enjoying this series and am looking forward to the next book titled 'Revival'.
Daniel (Shelter Trilogy Book 2), is my twenty-fifth read from author Robin Merrill who I’ve been reading since January of 2019 when I first read Piercehaven: Welcome to the Island & she never fails to entertain with her excellent writing. I got this book back in December of 2019 yet never got around to reading it until reading Shelter (Shelter Trilogy Book 1) now when I'm listening to the Audible version with my wife. 142-pages/4-hours 32-minutes yet reads longer due to the story and characters being slowly & methodically developed, drawing the reader in. Narrator Lisa Kelly again adds to the listening enjoyment of the story. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Daniel is definitely a child after God's heart. Catching up with Maggie, Galen, Cari and Harmony is wonderful and I would love to see what Daniel will become when he finishes growing. The growth showed by Galen after all the years he supported the church's ministry and finally becoming the Pastor was awesome to witness. The idea of daily walking and praying for your church is a very good example that should be followed by everyone. I would recommend this story to everyone. It is a wonderful faith supporter and can help everyone who reads it to be stronger and closer in their walk with God.
okay this was a really good book about a little boy named Daniel who dishes up some awesome prayers that heal some people and some it doesn't all while dealing with the chaos going on in the tiny church he was born and raised in is going on..Pastor Dan passes away and so called board memebers step up and bring in a new pastor who isn't fond of homeless people even though that is what this church is made up of along with some former shelter people..Pastor Chris is only in it for glory and money instead of helping the shelter people..then there is Dwight who claims he was a war vet who causes alot of problems along the way..good clean book
Simply stated--if you love Christian fiction you will love this book! It will increase your faith, show you how you can receive eternal life, bring to life the beatitudes, and teach you that not only is God still speaking...He is working miracles every day! This book gives the glory to God where it belongs. The young boy, Daniel, understands that he does not heal--God does the healing THROUGH him. Of course, those who do not know God try to exploit Daniel for their own selfish interests. In the end God works everything for good for those who truly love Him!
The Open Door Church has been dealt a blow, the death of their beloved Pastor Dan. Now the guests and members are faced with all the changes... Elders that have taken over, a new Pastor, and changes in how some of the guests are acting. People are losing faith, but then miracles seem to be happening, and in the center of it all is one little boy, Daniel.
Robin Merrill has written a powerful story with a strong message. This book really made me think (in a good way).
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Daniel (Shelter, #2) was a great read by Robin Merrill. This is the sequel to Shelter another great read by Robin Merrill. Over a decade ago, Open Door Church opened its doors as a homeless shelter. Unfortunately the pastor died unexpectedly. Galen and Maggie do everything they can to keep the ministry going. Unfortunately the newcomers seem to be trying to sabotage the church. Daniel seems to work miracles that don’t seem to be possible. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Robin Merrill.
I didn’t think it was possible to write a book better than Shelter, but Robin Merrill succeeded in doing so with the second book in the Shelter Trilogy. I don’t usually purchase books since I can read for free at the library, but Robin Merrill writes in such a way that I just had to buy her books. The characters in the Shelter Trilogy have felt like friends and family since the first book and I will be sad to say goodbye to them after I finish reading Revival. Thank you, Robin, for writing such great books with awesome characters!!
The entire time I’m wondering how much longer do we have to endure Pastor Chris and the Elders?! After Pastor Dan’s passing, they took over so quickly and the shelter changed for the worse. I don’t know how Maggie and Galen were able to stay and pray. While reading, I felt like this was my church and I wanted to leave because of the corruption. But God does not let corruption last for long and in the end, it all works out. Heading to book 3 now!
The book is based on church administration and beliefs and how belief in God wins over the ill doings of certain persons who use the church and their power for fame and publicity. Though this book mentions about the little boy Daniel and his gift of miraculous healing, the book in essence revolves around the Turney family and hence I felt that it is inappropriately titled.
I really liked Shelter and then the second book Daniel. The characters seem so real and I feel like I know them. They have real issues but find strength in God and others to get through them. I wish there was a third book in this series.
This 2nd book in the Shelter series is as good as the 1st. I do recommend reading the trilogy in order, or you may not be familiar with the characters, why they behave as they do and the church shelter situation, etc. If you want more of a synopsos about the story there are other good reviews here that cover it better than I might. Be blessed.
This was an excellent second book to Shelter. The story picked up several years later and was captivating, holding the suspense till the very end. The story line was really up to date with today's culture and just the way people are today. I enjoyed the book very much.
The story continues 8 years later. The shelter faces uncertainty, but God has a plan. God has people in palace to implement His plan; but trusting God can be hard. Something we all need to do.
This picks up 8 years after the first book left off. I enjoyed the read, but I was sad that the climax of the story happened in the last 6 pages of the book. There was a lot of build up, so I was hoping it’d happen a bit sooner and drag out a little more. Overall, I still loved the development of the characters and the changes in their faith journey. I’m really looking forward to kicking off the third and final book in this trilogy.
Enjoyed this second book in the series as well, even more so than the first I think. What an inspiring story to tell, and what a blessing it would be if it were to really happen in cities around the world. I could read about these people, and Open Door Church, over & over again.
I love Robin Merrill’s books, and this one did not disappoint! She points others to Jesus through her works of fiction while still showing the earthly conflicts of the characters. Her works are encouraging and uplifting! Highly recommend!
