"Centuries after three quarters of the human population on earth fell victim to a savage plague, a new enemy rises to threaten the existence of humanity. A civilization divided by those still fully human, those part machine and those who are both dead and alive at the same time, what it means to be truly human has already been long forgotten.

Surviving in a world four hundred years in the future that is as strange as it is dangerous, Detective Nathan Ironside is assigned the appeal case of a former prison officer incarcerated for homicide in a hellish prison in orbit around Saturn called Tethys Gaol. In an attempt to hide his own sorrows Nathan digs deep into the officer’s desperate claims of innocence, and swiftly finds himself embroiled in a major conspiracy. But even trapped aboard a lawless prison ship he faces only half the danger of his partner Lieutenant Foxx, aboard the fleet’s flagship Titan; for mankind has made “first contact” with an alien species, and it’s nothing like anybody expected.

Trapped aboard the gaol, Nathan must survive the most violent prison riot in humanity’s history and solve the case while hoping that Lieutenant Foxx and the fleet can evade a ruthless killing machine and finally come to his rescue…"

Absolutely terrific. Now reading book 1 in the series for the back story of the main characters. A combination of sci-fi, thriller, mystery, and police procedural. Highly recommend.

Slightly better than the first, with the introduction of new elements like weird aliens a more fun read than the first installment. Sadly, it still suffers from the same ailments as the first book, it doesn't flow really well or have a well balanced plot evolution. It's one more case of great intro, lots of superfluous stuff hapenning, and then suddenly the book needs to be wrapped in three chapters and everything runs in quadruple speed.

Can't say I had a bad time reading it tho.

A bit of confused

While i enjoyed the book there were a few points where the writer got a bit mixed up.
The wife became the daughter at one point. And at another point dozens of marine's got out of a shuttle when only eight got in.

All told though a very readable and mostly enjoyable book.

You have mystery, science fiction, and plenty of surprises to keep the reader engaged. The author did a good job of giving us just enough science without losing me. Characters were funny yet serious. Thank you Dean for a great part two! Will there be a part three?

Ironsides Flies.

I have to say, as much Science Fiction as I read this book is superior to much that is out there. At first I wondered where the writer was going. As the story moved on it became clearer that this is much more than SF. How about Travis McGee meets Captain Kirk. It is an excellent book well thought out. The characters are alive and vivid and the enemy is frighetening. Hard to put this book down. Set aside a few hours grab your favorite drink and enjoy.

Interesting sequel

More of the good stuff plus a few minutes of possible extremely challenging situations. Definitely worthy of a read over the holidays.

Easy read

Short paragraphs make this gripping book easy to pick up, just difficult to put down. This follows on from the previous, but it is not necessary to read it

Detective story based on a corpsicle

I object to this being sci-fi. It's a detective story stuck in the future and every bit of science is wrong.
