Many people today have lost their enthusiasm for petitionary prayer because, to their minds, it has failed to live up to its promise. This current disillusionment is unfortunate, being the result of superficial and selective approaches to Scripture. This book takes the reader beyond wishful thinking and proof-texting to the heart of what the Bible actually teaches about prayer. By placing profound theological truth back into the hands of the non-theologian, it helps the reader to examine their own ideas about who God is and how he relates to the world. This results in increasing confidence as expectations about prayer are re-shaped to more accurately reflect God's priorities and promises.

Chris is a Minister in our family of churches and I was pleased to get stuck into his first book, especially with prayer being a topic I wanted to read more about this year.
I found the examination of our convictions of who God is and how this relates to prayer helpful, but for me the book really picked up in pace and personal value in its second half.
Chapter 9 is a fantastic treatise for corporate prayer and Chapter 11 is really helpful in understanding the role of faith in prayer (it's not that we need a great faith, but faith in a great God). Plenty to take away and mull on in here and I suspect the small group resources to discuss and unpack it further would be really helpful.
Extremely well written, and helpfully honest. For me, the reminder of right relationships with God and others stood out; I'm certain that anyone reading this would find a valuable nugget they might immediately apply to their own prayer life.
This was a great book! I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. I think I have highlighted most of the book lol. This isn't a step by step approach on how to pray and doesn't give you ideas of how to fit prayer into your busy schedule. It is not a practical step by step guide instead it is more a book on the theology and beliefs of prayer but much easier to read! It helped me think more about my prayers, why I pray and what it accomplishes. It obviously is certainly written by Chris Band and therefore is his own beliefs based on the way he interprets scripture that being said I agreed with pretty much all that he said and the angle he took. If you are of the name it and claim it belief you may not be as in love with book as I was however in all things we need to discern for ourselves what is true and study the scriptures to see if they agree. It is good to listen to other opinions and thoughts. Great book and highly recommend it!
This was packed with really informative information. Some parts were a little bit harder to work through than others but it has so much in it. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a biblically based book on prayer.
