Updated Review 10/5/25: Okay, I don't care what anyone says, I love this series so much and I am going to rebuy it for my collection! I truly forgot how fairytale-like it is because seeing this forbidden romance bloom and unfold made my heart so happy! Not only that, but seeing Sayaka really stand up for herself and not worry about her father or social expectations had me cheering!
I look forward to being able to read it as much as would like after getting my copies again! (And also remind myself to NOT be so easily influenced by other people and getting rid of titles…)

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!
Yes, it packed full of drama, but this was such a beautiful story and I definitely teared up at the end!
I was worried at the beginning that we would have this weird love triangle and felt HUGEEEE relief that it wasn't! I really enjoyed Sayaka realizing her feelings and working through those feelings (even though I was so afraid they might have a one night stand. Imagine my relief when it DEFINITELY was not that!)
That one chapter made me grin the whole time! Well, until the end of it. LOL! But I'm glad we had that chapter. It was really wonderful!
I REALLY liked Miss Kazuko! Compared to how we met her in the beginning, her character arc was very different then I expected! She was a fun character and really liked how she was involved in the end.
Her father though…No other words are needed.
The epilogue however was SO sweet! Thank you for that, Ishihara Senpai. <3
Overall, this is such a fantastic short series! Definitely recommend!

Sayaka's father arranges a marriage meeting for her with Akihiko Tachibana, the coldly business-minded third son of Earl Tachibana. In the process of turning him down, Sayaka accidentally causes him to fall for her. This could turn into a complicated love triangle, but since this is the final volume of the series and it's time it's time for Sayaka to start catching on to her own and others' feelings, things get resolved more quickly than that. Somehow, the author still manages to fit in a few surprises, though.
I really enjoyed how this wrapped up - kudos to Ishihara's editor for suggesting this ending, which was less cliched than the direction I assumed things would go, and kudos to Ishihara for listening.
I also really appreciated the bonus chapter, which helped flesh the ending out a little and give it some life and believability. I liked the dynamics between the older Sayaka and Narutaki. Plus, that short hairstyle was cute.
Extras:
Author sidebars throughout, a bonus chapter set a few years after the events of the final chapter, and a comic-style afterword by the author.

November 30, 2025I really like both the heiress and the chauffeur and I liked that it was forbidden love, but I took a really long time to complete each chapter. So it was good and I would recommend it but it’s not too special. I love how in love and devoted the chauffeur is he’s a dream man. The bonus included them with their child so that’s cute.

In Summary
Ishihara-sensei concludes with a happy ending for our heiress and chauffeur, but the journey is rife with character inconsistencies. In addition, Sayaka’s inability to recognize romantic feelings (including hers) for what they are drags down the first half of the volume, and when she finally does realize she’s in love, things move unbelievably fast in the second half. Sayaka might be touted as the universally adored “Crimson Lily” of her school, but I found her to be a frustratingly dense and somewhat pretentious heroine.
The Review
This is the final volume of the series, and Ishihara-sensei introduces a rival, has Sayaka realize her love for Narutaki, and brings everything to a close in five chapters. This is a lot for one installment, yet it still dragged for me. Much of it had to do with Sayaka’s continuing cluelessness about Narutaki’s feelings and Narutaki’s lack of initiative to do anything other than catch Sayaka when she inevitably falls.
The addition of marriage candidate Akihiko Tachibana doesn’t do much to intensify the situation. He starts off as a promising element to complicate Narutaki and Sayaka’s lives, but he’s so quickly and overwhelmingly won over by Sayaka that he becomes more baffling than intriguing. As Ishihara-sensei accurately admits in an author’s note, “Mr. Tachibana changed so much it was as if he had been abducted by aliens.”
Also inconsistent is the matter of Sayaka’s foot. She alternately displays the actions of a reckless tomboy and a stumbling cripple. In Chapter 5, she leaps off a bridge into a lake and lands without trouble, but in Chapter 6, she balks at jumping from a sinking rowboat to a dock. And time and again, she trips for no better reason than to be dramatically caught by the male characters.
This is a romance so it of course has a happy ending. However, it’s not till Chapter 7 that Sayaka realizes her feelings toward Narutaki are not sisterly ones. That leaves only two and a half chapters for heiress and chauffeur to contend against and defeat the forces that would tear them apart. Sayaka’s long-absent father abruptly appears to play the ultimate obstacle to their happiness only to capitulate so quickly that he, like Mr. Tachibana, appears to have been abducted by aliens.
While the final chapter doesn’t involve a wedding, the volume includes a four-page bonus story that paints a pretty clear picture of Sayaka and Narutaki’s ever after. Other extras include embedded author’s notes and afterword. I should also mention that the artwork does include a few larger, sweeping illustrators, but for the most part, panels are small and cramped, and the printing tends to be overly dark and heavy. The dialogue translation is also confusing at a couple points, and it doesn’t help that several dialogue bubbles are arranged such that you can’t tell who’s speaking.

Even if the ending of this series is unbelievable to some, or inaccurate to the times, or whatever—I don’t care. I still enjoyed it and found it at least somewhat plausible, and even then that’s not the point to me.
Sayaka gets a real suitor for marriage, and even though their first meeting goes terribly, she sparks something in him and he decides to work for real. It’s competition for her chauffeur. Thankfully, this doesn’t go far, though. Sayaka isn’t the type to go along with something she doesn’t really believe in, or to pretend when she doesn’t believe in it.
Which is why it makes sense for her to finally accept her feelings for Narutaki, and how things continue from there. Her feelings for him are more important to her than anything else, and it’s the same for him, so it’s sweet to see them finally together. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to run away or lie or give in to disagreement from others, so I think that the ending fits quite well.
I enjoyed this short series, the artwork is very pretty, and I don’t really care about any inaccuracies. I would read more.

Also known as "The Heiress and the Chauffeur," the second volume of this series dives into a heartbreaking romance that the first volume could barely skim on the surface of. I say heartbreaking because there are so many hard choices that have to be made. You watch both of them fall in love with each other, and go down that path of self-destruction. The male lead's rebellious nature is simultaneously the glue holding their relationship together, as well as the element that threatens to burn it all down. This manga has a very sweet ending and after story, though.

Last vol of this series.
I liked that the heroine was a no-nonsense, strong willed person. It was interesting the way that the Class and Rank differences were potrayed in the story, the view of the Taishou Era society and how strongly the main characters felt for each other.
It had some predictable moments and some well-known tropes but, in the end, it was a good and entertaining story.

Este manga es sobre un romance entre una mujer de alta sociedad con su mayordomo, lo que respecta un amor imposible o no muy bien visto en lo que cabía esperarse antes. Es una historia corta y predecible, pero con un bonito dibujo y buen desarrollo, lo que hace al manga fácil de leer y además rápido. No es nada del otro mundo pero es un manga dulce y corto.

Today's post is on The Heiress and The Chauffeur volume 2 by Keiko Ishihara. It is the second in a duology. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters on it looking at the reader. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving one to the other as the story goes. The intended reader is someone who likes cute shojo stories, historical romance, and pretty art. There is no foul language, no sexuality, and very mild violence in this volume. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Review- A cute ending to a cute series. We get lots of different scenes in this volume from Sayaka realizing how long she has loved Narutaki then they run away together for the day and night and they choose each other no matter what. We get kisses too and even a scene from the future which was a nice bonus. Ishihara does a lot with a short series. She gives us a full world with interesting and changing characters in it. We see how much our main characters care for each other and we want them to find a way. Sayaka's father was the weakest part of the series as a hollow villain role. In the last few pages we get information about her mother and how they met. I would have liked to that information earlier but if that is my only complaint with the series, then I think Ishihara did very well. I hope that Shojo Beat will bring over more of her work like Strange Dragon. This was a sweet romance and I really enjoyed this series.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Oh how I loved this manga so much. This is the second and final volume in The Heiress and the Chauffeur duology of manga and I simply loved it. First off the story was so sweet and so cute and I loved how it ended. Not only because it ended great overall but the bonus story added in this manga. The bonus story that takes place many years later and it is fantastic. It adds overall to the story that was being told and wraps it up nicely. While this isn't the most exciting or crazy manga that I've ever read this was simply so sweet. I loved the simplicity of it, the straightforward storytelling and the art style was just fantastic. It's a story that you fall into quickly and I got sucked into it so much that I wanted to know what would happen next to these characters that I've come to love. This definitely has earned its spot on my favorites shelf as a manga that I could go back to and enjoy time and again for its fantastic story and beautiful artwork.

This short series improved in the second volume. It would've benefited from better pacing but since Ishihara thought it'd be just one-shot or maybe a couple of chapters at first, it's understandable.
Sayaka also was more balanced in this volume: she was determined and listened to her heart but also sometimes cuffed by the society's expectations and unsure what to do. And I also liked Narutaki better when he wasn't just ramming his way ahead but actually thought about the situations a bit more, while also being committed to Sayaka. Their free day together was very sweet too.
So, cute Taisho era romance that was mostly hindered by uneven flow.

It was weirdly rushed. The ending was also rather anticlimactic, though I did like the bonus story. The father’s reasoning was bizarre and hypocritical, and frankly didn’t make a lot of sense.
I also found her friend confusing because she was...maybe in love with her? Or admired her? It was just a random detail that didn’t get much screen time or explanation, so I thought it was unnecessary. There was also a rival who did an about-face and went from an asshole to being a nice guy in the blink of an eye. Maybe all the details would be handled better with at least a few more chapters, but as it was, it felt like too many things were crammed into the story without doing them justice.

AHHHHHHH!!!!! (scream of happiness) I can't stop smiling!! The ending with the bonus story was beautiful drawn like seriously I completely recommend this series with the best looking chauffeur in the history of chauffeurs! I love Sayaka and Narutaki's relationship where he takes care of her and she defends and depends on his support. Such a great story. Wish there was more but a perfect ending (the bonus story did it for me) really.

This was a solidly average series.
I liked the artwork and the ending to the story, but it seemed quite rushed in parts and the little review of the characters at the beginning of each chapter was a little annoying.
I probably wouldn't really recommend it, but I wouldn't say not to read it either. I just feel indifferent about it.

Wonderful ending to a lovely story. The art is as great as ever, and the end leaves the reader satisfied. I also found the overall message of this story to be an empowering one. I like reading about strong women, and Sayaka is definitely strong. This was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed reading.

Meh. Some cute parts and GORGEOUS artwork, but the story was just meh. The additional characters seemed fun, but ultimately did nothing for the story. At least I didn't dislike the main characters, the plot was just thin. Not my cup of tea.

Aw well I liked this volume more than the first. Sayaka finally stopped being dense and realized her feelings. I wish we could’ve seen more. I feel like this could’ve been a longer series... maybe show us more of their childhood bonding?
Anyway, this was a nice short read.
