I read this to my math class the other day (though it is not a math book, per se) and after we marveled over the photos and information together a girl said, "This is the only book I've ever liked." So there you go! Ringing endorsement!
This book offers a fascinating look at various insects. The narrative isn't too long and the information provided is simple, but interesting. The photographs are big, glossy and gorgeous and we really enjoyed reading this book together.
The 4 & 5 year old classes at my outreach on Monday were fascinated (and sometimes grossed out) by these insect close ups. We made a guessing game of it, and talked about how the bug faces were similar and different to human faces. I did not read every page- when sharing non-fiction with children you can read just a couple of facts from a page. I paired it with "Are you a butterfly?" By Judy Allen and "Tiny little fly" by Michael Rosen for a buggy spring storytime.
