This book is well written and I think if you are an entrepreneur looking for inspiration to go out there and follow your dream it would be a very good read. However, I do not belied that your "calling" need also be your vocation. In fact, at this stage of my life I am happy to keep my work my work and my calling something I live. I would say a great counter-point to this book and way of thinking is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I kept the making about that book almost from page one of this one.
I felt like they were moments where I was immediately motivated and had that spark of, “this is what I needed to hear”. I then felt it got very repetitive and personally I am not a very religious person so the few mentions of God or religion to meet seemed unnecessary.
First time I picked up the book to read it was an ebook that I recall enjoying but over time kinda forgot about the content inside. Not long ago I picked up a physical copy, as I wanted to read it all over again. As someone who at times finds herself saying yes to a lot, was curious to see what the pages held for me on a second read.
A couple things really stood out for me, how ones calling in life manifests itself and all those times we get pulled off track and end up with a mixed up set of priorities. From the author's perspective one's calling goes back to what we were doing growing up. Let that sink in for a second, take a moment to reflect and see what path got you to where you are today. When I took that pause to reflect it hit me loud and clear that from the yesterday to the today where I landed makes so much sense.
Too many times we have things that distract us and I felt that a bit too much this week. Finding myself focusing on things that in most cases could have waited, which I focused on what really needed my attention. We all fall off track and I've realized my train got derailed a bit. Thus begins figuring out what I can eliminate that isn't serving me and focus on what is and how I can be better every day.
A short read but well worth it as at this time in my life there were a lot of things that I needed to hear, to write down and walk away from feeling like a better person inside.
This is a brief book packed with inspiration and encouragement. While you will find the word "God" used, overall it does not have a strong religious tone. This is a wonderful story of facing obstacles, learning to evaluate options, accepting oneself and one's present abilities but saying YES to one's potential for more. It is about listening to that insistent voice telling you your life has meaning and you can make a positive impact on your world. One small YES at a a time, choosing to face gears and deal with obstacles can lead to amazing results if you give yourself a chance. If you appreciate reading about how others have succeeded and desire to learn from them and act on your own dreams and goals, this is a book you should read.
This book inspired me to share its resources with those I know at the beginning of their career paths. It is also valuable to anyone wanting more from life.
The advice Misty shares in this book is incredibly relatable for anyone who is running a business or planning to start one. I loved the simple way in which she shares her enormous experience.
My favorite takeaway is the "toolbox" where Misty shares exact moments in her career where she learned each of the lessons she's sharing. I could relate to all of them and could easily identify hownI could have applied her insight in my business.
All in all this book was an easy, simple book to read full of great, concise and actionable tips one can incorporate into his or her business right away.
This book was a great reminder in how focused steps can lead to larger than life results. How daily work can help us accomplish goals and prevent us from feeling burnt out or resentful.
At times it did feel like the author was just reassuring herself that her decisions at times were the right ones. But the lessons were impactful.
Taking real daily steps towards your calling, your purpose is truly the only way to live and since reading this book I have done just that. Something of substance is accomplished and it's all due to saying one small yes.
I think this book has a great message I like the positive slant of small yeses vs often the discussion of learning to say no, even though the two go together. I think the author offers a good message.
What I’ve read so far is excellent. I enjoy Misty Lown’s style and tone. I personally am not much of an inspirational or self-help genre reader, so I think I need to wait until I’m more in that mood or headspace to really dig into this.
