To say I loved this story is an understatement. It was wonderful. Beautifully written by B. L. Wilde, it swept me along with it from page one. A compelling love story but not like all the others, it follows its own story, something a bit different which I found refreshing.
I loved the characters in it; they are so well written and rounded, you love them, feel for them, cry with them and laugh with them. Max and Summer are fantastic, both have been traumatised and have demons, but although they severely affect their lives they get on, move on despite everything that conspires against them.
I love the art side of the story; they are both artists and the descriptions of the art and their paintings, were really engrossing. I also adored that I knew a lot of the places where it was set. I have sat on Chesil Beach wishing I could paint those waves.
Summer has come out of an abusive relationship which has left her scared to live life, until she meets Max Masters, an art lecturer whose main subject of interest is Madam Mirabelle, Summer’s favourite artist. They are attracted but because of each other’s demons they back off from admitting their attractions to each other.
There are twists and turns a plenty in this story, some you see coming others surprise you, but it all adds up to the most amazing story. If you only read one book this year, make sure it’s this one. Congratulations B. L. Wilde on a masterpiece.
