Jonathan Spencer has dedicated his life to working for the crown. He loves the thrill of the chase, the sense of adventure, the lure of danger. Most of all, he loves Gabrielle Dumas, the fellow spy who stole his heart. Jonathan’s life is wonderful…until one fateful night in Paris, a night that brought his whole world crashing down. Three years later, Jonathan hasn’t recovered from the events of that night. And now he finds himself in the middle of a mystery that will rock his whole world. I'm Nadine, a writer from County Laois in Ireland.
I’ve been writing historical romance since March 2014 and have no plans to stop!
While my heart belongs to Regency, there are a lot of other genres and ideas fluttering around in my brain so who knows what will happen next?!
When I'm not writing I can be found scurrying around after my three children. Or my dog. Or my cat.
I have a brilliant family and wonderful friends who are ever patient and supportive of me.
I'm sometimes asked where my inspiration comes from. I guess it's from everywhere! I love my gorgeous husband to distraction so that helps! I think I also put a little bit of people I know into my characters...so if you know me and you recognize someone... ;)
Have an ever so mild obsession with Jane Austen and have properly researched time machines in case there's one who could take me back to 1800s. Spoiler alert: there isn’t one. My brain might be odd but it's a pretty fun place to be at times!
My writing really took off when my youngest started preschool. So now, while my children are being taken care of by teachers, my characters are being taken care of by me!
To be fair though, I can quite regularly be found at 2am glued to the laptop when I get an idea!
I really enjoyed this one! It's the second book in the Revenge Series, but stands well on its own.
Jonathan Spencer has never been the same after loosing the love of his life in the streets of Paris. Heartbroken and lost, he has spent the last three years as a shadow of his former self. Tired of his well-meaning friends, he decides to visit his old mentor and try to regroup. Once he arrives he's thrown into an old mystery that may end up changing his life forever.
Since this is a mystery and the second book in the series, I don't want to give too much away. I thought it was well written, had a nice flow. Characters were likable and well developed. I did guess the "bad guy" early on, but was still curious how everything would play out and didn't feel like that was a distraction from the enjoyment of the story. I also enjoyed getting a peek at who I assume the next book will be about, I think that'll be a fun one as well.
Overall, this was an enjoyable regency mystery and one I'd easily recommend.

I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of The Spy's Revenge and it DID NOT disappoint. I read it in one day- reading every chance I got. Nadine Millard has easily moved into my top 5 favorite authors list- I've read (& loved!) all her books. The first in this series, Highway Revenge, I fell in love with immediately! I ordered the paperback version to go in my personal library as soon as I finished the Kindle version. The Spy's Revenge was no different. We met Jonathan in the first book. So I was excited to see him again and to read his love story. He is charming, brave, and totally broken as the book begins. He is just a shell of the man he used to be because 3 years prior he believes he saw his true love, Gabrielle Dumas, die at the hands of a murderer. Gabrielle is, well, the word "badass" comes to mind. She can hang with the boy spies. Anything they can do, she can do better. ;) I thoroughly enjoyed her character.
I don't want to give anything away. So, I'll just say this: The characters are awesome. You can't help but like them. Nadine does a great job in letting us know what each character is thinking and feeling. She makes clean romantic scenes scald you with the steam. The witty banter and "lust-filled" thoughts of the characters are entertaining. I really loved that it wasn't just the male having these thoughts!
A few of my favorite lines that made me laugh out loud:
"Even if she could force her mind to forget about him, her heart would forever remember and forever crave his touch. Her heart was an idiot."
"How could her brain work properly when it was too busy urging her to do all sorts of improper things with the man at her side? Her brain, it turned out was a bit of a wanton."
"Dear Lord, the man could make her combust with just a look, she was sure."
I also loved catching up with Andrew and Evelyn, from Highway Revenge. And I am pretty sure there will be a book 3 with Anna and Captain Townsend's story. Overall, I totally loved losing myself in The Spy's Revenge. It was a mystery throughout the book, that I was pretty sure I had solved, but wasn't sure what the whole story was until the end. I will definitely be adding the paperback to my library when it's available!
Hurting, broken and pushing his luck, Jonathan Spencer could barely recognize his own life. He had once felt the thrill of the life he led, the ecstasy and rush he received from the chase and the danger his career promised. He has once known happiness and love; until the night his life was taken from him. The night everything went wrong.
Now, three years later, Jonathan is but a hollow shell of the man he once was. Finding life back home anything but relaxing—a place filled with nowhere to escape—he decides it is time to flee the matchmaking ways of the ton. He is not ready to move on. He is not ready to let go, even if the nightmares won’t fade.
But when Jonathan arrives at the quiet country estate of his friend in Norfolk, he uncovers a startling fact about the night his life changes forever, and Jonathan can help but fight with all he has to uncover the truth about what happened.
"I won't rest until I find out who did it. And when I do, I'll bring hell itself down on their heads."
Will the answers allow Jonathan to finally free himself and find the love he yearns for? Or will the secrets and lies prove to bring more heartache?
Nadine Millard has once again given readers a passionate story about love, loss, and revenge. She has woven together brilliant levels of banter, wit, charm, and enough mystery and intrigue to keep readers turning the pages. The characters possess amazing inner strength, grit, and determination.
Well Done! Cheers, my friend, to another amazing regency. Thank you for sharing your gift of writing with the world so that I may have my regency fix!
Oh my gosh, I loved this book! Once again Mrs. Nadine Millard has brought to life this wonderful cast of characters and allowed us a look into their lives. The Spy's Revenge takes place 3 years years after Highway Revenge ends. Andrew and Evelyn are living happily and so very much in love, but now it's Johnathan's turn to find happiness. It's been years since the love of his life was ripped away from him and his heart was destroyed. Will he ever be able to find true love again, will he finally get his revenge? These are some of the mysteries that are waiting to be discovered, all you have to do is grab your copy of The Spy's Revenge. You will not be disappointed. I love all of Nadine's books and this is no exception! Another job well done!!
I love a mystery and this had what I needed. I wanted to find who really killed her and why? I am glad my detective skills worked! I love the chemistry between Jonathan and Gabby and catching up with Andrew and Evelyn. There has to be a story about Anna and Captain Townsend!! Lots of swooning though!! Nadine you rock. Thank you for your talent!
If you love a good romantic spy adventure then this is the book for you. I was so happy for Jonathan to be reunited with this "lost" love again. Circumstances with his last time spent with Gabrielle caused her to want revenge when she saw Jonathan again. But in the end this couple will have a happy ending.
Great quick read. The characters are easy to fall in love with and the introduction of the characters of the next book in the series leaves you wanting more.
