Insta love and angst and issues.....lots and lots of issues.....issue-topia....

Campbell Fain, tatted and pierced and a bit of a rebel, he doesn't want to "adult" and defiantly doesn't want to be a lawyer and follow in his famous Dad's footsteps. He works a lowly job as a filing clerk in another office because he has to do something, right? One night at his favourite club he is instantly drawn to Stone Medlock and *boom!*. But in a misguided minute to make himself more than he is, he lies to Stone, saying he is a law student and works for his Dad. As time goes on, Campbell is wrecked with guilt and fear that his lies will lose him Stone, but there is someone trying to destroy his Father and Campbell could be the way to do it.....

Can you see the angst marching across the pages......

From the first page I struggled with the *voices* in my head. Campbell and Stone did not come across as the characters that the blurb depicted. There did not seem enough depth or intensity and the flow of the story got lost -the devil is not always in the detail - did we really need such concise directions from the club to Stone's house and added observation his neighbour has a better balcony??

Instalove rears its head within the first few pages and without really establishing the characters and having this *lie* already floating, I found it hard to seriously consider them as a long term item. And when the lie is finally found out, I wasn't expecting the hissy fit that Stone threw, add in miscommunication and this became an issue that Stone kept bringing up again and again - they are still a relatively new couple, it was hurtful - but should not have been the big deal it was made into and I think took away from the real issue of what happened to Campbell. I wanted to smack Stone around the head and ask what happened to being caring and considerate when your loved one is recovering from a trauma??? I was also expecting more to be made around Campbell punishment for his father, it felt like an afterthought and it was a shame to not make more of the opportunity.

Overall, I struggled with Campbell and Stone as a couple, they didn't come across strongly enough for me to care, the white-lies, indecision and trust issues became this herd of elephants constantly charging around the room. I wanted to knock their heads together and just ask for the "common sense fairy" to drown them in the stuff. Sadly, this was just far too angsty for me and add in the slap of suspense and I'm done with it.

(¸.•´ (¸.•`☆The question was asked: Will they find love behind the lies?

Hi, I'm Campbell Fain. My dad's a hot shot lawyer, but I'm a hot mess."

Seeing Stone Medlock across the dance floor, Tattooed and pierced Campbell knew he had to have the man. Inventing himself into a better man was not the way to go. The instant attraction between the two was tangible. Hence, Campbell's downfall. Lies was not the way to enter a relationship, no matter how small. But as Campbell said it best: "I'd lied to him to increase my worth."

"I didn't believe in love at first sight or fate, but I wanted to..."

Stone was in denial, he was hella-attracted to Campbell and it showed. Anyone could see he was whipped, even his family. But when the lies were revealed, Stone had a hard time in forgiving Campbell no matter how much his heart and head warred.

When it comes to matters of the heart...

When Campbell finds himself in problems, he prays for Stone's forgiveness and his willingness to take him back. Stone on the other hand is devastated at losing Campbell, but must come together with his lover's family and friends to right the wrong. When it comes to matters of the heart, all must be ready to forgive if true love is going to stand the test of time.

This was a pretty good story about how growing up takes the time and effort if you want to have the things that means the most to you.

Stone and Campbell meet on the dance floor. Their eyes meet and the instant pull is too much for both of them. They are wrapped around each other with no intention of letting go. Yes, this is an insta-lust book. Problem is, Campbell starts things off with lies and it feels doomed.
When Stone and Campbell are between the sheets it’s hot and heavy and very sexy. There’s no issues in the bedroom that’s for sure and Lynn Michaels writes some killer sex scenes.
But, it comes down to the lies in the end and Stone inability to let it go, even when he says he wants to move on from them. I had issues with both characters and the things that came out of their mouths. One with the lies and the other with not being able to make up his mind.
Great editing and grammar and the flow was very well done. I will say there was one scene I found myself excited to see happen but it never did. I don’t want to say what scene but I think I built myself up for it and the absence of it made me sad lol. It’s not a vital part that has to be there, just something I wanted. I thought we were being built to see it but clearly I was wrong.
There’s serious drama in this tale. We have family issues, trust issues, kidnapping issues… a lot of issues. Campbell has great friends and Stone has awesome family that work their butts off to try and knock some sense into these guys constantly.
I did enjoy the story even though I was missing some things. It was entertaining and slightly suspenseful. Low angst but a lot of love.

WOW!!

WOW!! What a story. Two men who are completely different, struggle to understand how they can make it work between them. Campbell and Stone meet in a bar. Even though they are drawn to each other the road is rocky from the beginning. This was a great story of how they over come what gets in their way. This is my first time reading a Lynn Michaels story. I thought it was enjoyable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!

**A copy of this book was provided by the publisher to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair and honest review***

Campbell Fain has never wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and the more he pulls away from what is expected of him, the bigger the wedge between them grows. His family thinks it's time for him to grow up, but it isn't until he meets Stone Medlock that he realizes they might be right. In an effort to make himself, in his opinion, more desirable, he lies to Stone claiming to be a law student and working for his famous father. As the relationship intensifies Camp struggles how to tell Stone the truth.

Campbell's biggest fear is that Stone will never forgive him for his lies. Unfortunately Stone finds himself facing something even more frightening. Someone is intent on destroying Mitchell Fain and it looks like they'll use Campbell to do it. Has Campbell lost Stone forever? Will he survive long enough to make things right?

First, let me say the cover of Evasive Maneuvers is wonderful. I am a person who can't help but to judge a book by its cover when I first get it. I loved this cover. It was the kind of cover that screamed intensity. Unfortunately though, that passion I felt from the cover didn't quite match up to what I felt from the story.

One of my favorite genres is Paranormal, with that we see Insta-love quite frequently and it's something I don't think twice about. It's pretty much expected for the protagonists to meet and fall madly and deeply in love with one another, after all they're fated mates. However, when I read contemporary romance, I go for a degree of realism and insta-love, in my opinion, is just not realistic. Sure I believe in lust at first sight, but love? Not so sure. This was my major complaint with Evasive Maneuvers.

We have two young men who meet one night at a club and are immediately drawn to one another. They end up going for coffee to talk and then go back to one of the MC's apartment.
I knew it was way too soon to say I loved him, but damn the man had me falling hard and fast, and I never did that. I'd had a few hookups; hell, I knew I had a desirable body, but they never lasted beyond a few dates.

The connection is so intense for both of them that, from the very beginning, they can barely keep their hands off of each other, despite their earlier agreement to not have sex that night.

Could this thing between us be the beginning of something that I'd never had before and might not ever have again? I decided in that moment, slick with our cum and rolling in laughter and watching his bright eyes flashing, that I needed to hold on to this new and fragile relationship with every drop of blood surging through my veins, every solid bone, and every malleable muscle.

They have just met and already there is mention of love and relationships. It was something that truly bugged me and made it hard to take things seriously. These are young men who have just met one another.

While I was glad Campbell's lies were finally exposed, I thought Stone overreacted a bit about the situation. It may just be me, but I truly believe a little communication could help them both with resolving the matter. Again the reaction was more of what I would've expected out of someone who'd been dating Campbell for months rather than days. Not to mention the way Stone continues to bring up trust issues throughout the book. There were quite a few times I just wanted to scream "Stone, just back off!"

Honestly, there is more emphasis put on the lie than on what happened to Campbell. Instead of making sure he's alright and dealing with his trauma, all Stone focuses on is the lies and not knowing if he can trust anything Campbell says anymore. I'm sorry but a little white lie would be the last thing I'd be thinking about at this point.

I'd love to say that I thought Stone and Campbell were great together, but the truth of the matter is that I'm not sure they were. At least not as a serious couple. They needed time to get to know one another, time to mature more.

The part of the story that focused on Campbell being punished for what his father had done was good although I wish we got more of it. That as the main plot would have been great, there was so much that could've been done with that.

If you are a fan of instalove and angst or a Lynn Michaels' fan you'll probably enjoy Evasive Maneuvers.

Original Blog Post: Review: Evasive Maneuvers by Lynn Michaels

My Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

This is a story of two men who meet and fall in love. It's not all sunshine and roses for there's a whole lot of trouble going and coming their way. They fight through it, and they get their HFN. Yes, it's an HFN, at least for me, cause that ending was open to a new story and I want to know what happens next. I won't say why or what caused the open ending as it would spoil this story.

Now, for the review. This is the story of two idiots. Yes, you read that right, idiots. They are both so young they don't seem to know how to deal with their lives. To top it off, they manage to tell tall... well, not so tall, change that to white lies, that came to bite them in their butts.

There's some mystery going on here as well, and although that sort of complicated the already complicated life of two young (emphasis on the young) men, they still manage to turn around, face each other and face the truth: they truly are in love with each other.

This reads true-to-life tale sprinkled with some bit of fairy tale and it works. I usually scoff at stories where lying is an issue, but this one worked so well for it reminded me of people I know (duh, point to self and a few others out there... don't dare deny it!) where a little bit of evasive maneuvers is acted upon so we can go on with our lives.

For Stone and Campbell, it took a whole lot more than a bit a maneuvering fortunately, they settled and I got to smile in the end. Shaking my head, mind you, but still with a smile.

Unbelievable? Yes. Fairy Tale? Yes. Romantic? Heck, yes. Enjoyable?

You. Betcha.
