Re-read May 2020 Not my favorite by M.A. Innes, but still a lovely comfort read.
--------------------------------
The reason I read age-play stories is because of the caring, the comfort the daddy provides the boy. And I was glad there was lots of that here. Even though there were a couple of things that bothered me, I still enjoyed it.
Mark has a problem. He feels he is broken simply because he has some medical issues with his bladder. He has a small bladder and his nerve endings are damaged enough that he doesn’t feel when he needs to go. So adult disposable underwear it is.
When he suddenly gets the wrong box of receipt from one of his clients, he doesn’t know what to think. An adult nursery? Adult diapers? What is his client Sebastian into?
When Mark asks Sebastian about it, Sebastian can feel some interest from the younger man. Sebastian feels it is time for him to date again after his wife died, so he asks Mark on a date.
Mark isn’t sure he can go on this date, since he has never dated because of his problem. But when the truth comes out during said date, Mark is surprised to find Sebastian doesn’t think it’s a problem at all….
I liked the caring parts of this. I loved how insecure Mark was about his issue and how Sebastian reassured him and told him more about age-play and diapers.
I really didn’t care for the diapers or the diaper play itself, but I’ve gotten used to it by now. But since the emphasize of this story was really on the diaper part of the age-play, it sometimes felt a bit overwhelming to me.
I do have to say that this felt quite rushed. Now I get that this is a short book, but still, the relationship itself felt rushed. The I love yous were waaaay too soon, and I had a hard time believing that Sebastian was suddenly bi, and that Mark had no trouble adjusting to the lifestyle.
My major issue with this story actually had to do with Sebastian’s friends, Lucas and Gavin. They were really disrespectful to Sebastian and Mark simply because they didn’t believe how Mark could suddenly be all about the lifestyle while he was a newbie before. And how everything suddenly was fine for them once they heard about Mark’s problem. They should have accepted Mark even without his issues. Sebastian chose him, so why be such terrible friends and say they don’t understand the relationship between Sebastian and Mark?
But even though this book wasn't perfect, I'm such a sucker for the older daddy taking care of the boy that I still enjoyed it.
This was a good solid age-play story. I always enjoy M.A. Innes work, there's good simple characters and kinky kinky sex!
The problem with this story was how rushed everything was. Now I don't expect intense relationship development or long drawn out sexual tension, that's not what I read these books for anyway. But when the first penetration scene literally goes like this...
He’s been teasing and playing with Mark’s tight hole enough lately that within minutes his boy was open and ready.
Stretching out over Mark, he leaned down and kissed his sweet boy as he entered him for the first time.
....Without seeing any of said teasing or playing, I gets a little sad 😔.
Obviously the relationship was super fast as well (moving in and 'I loves you's after 3 weeks), but that doesn't bother me as much, like I said drawn out relationship development is not what I read these books for.
This still gets 3 stars because age-play is more about the kink then the sex and the kink was done very well and really is just as hot as the sex (more so in the case of this book).
2.4 stars. Really nice story. It was lovely how Sebastian helped Mark emotionally and physically. Sebastian's deceased wife was handled very well. Sebastian and Mark's gay relationship developed very naturally.
Lucas and Gavin protested Sebastian's involvement with Mark too much. Mark's mother never got to meet Sebastian.
The sex was lacking in a couple of areas. There was dirty talk of a blowjob but it never happen. The anal sex scene was very rushed and not given enough importance. It was a first time for Sebastian with a man and a first time for Mark period. It was boring and did not have the same intensity as the hand job scene.
While I can appreciate the ability to write about this particular kink, I can't say I enjoyed the story at all as I didn't feel or buy into the fairly instantaneous connection between Mark and Sebastian.
Also the whole age play infant thing, definitely not a kink that does anything for me although I do love a good daddy/boy romance.
I'm calling it. Time of death 53%. I've been reading all of M.A. Innes books for the past few weeks. Age play and diapers aren't my kink, BUT I enjoy the characters and the other parts so much that I keep reading. I can't do that here. This went from date to daddy before the first date ended. NO. I could have possibly have dealt with that here IF Sebastian had ever shown any interest in men AND if Mark had ever shown any interest in age play. It just made no sense. And the things Mark kind of goes along with on this first date. No. I can't believe it. I just can't go any further. No rating.
This was a very different book from the first age-play book that I read from M.A. Innes.
I thought that Sebastian kind of jumped into the Daddy/boy aspect of their relationship. Sebastian was in an age-play relationship before BUT with a women. This was no presented as a GYF book. I don't have a problem per se but it seemed kind of weird to me that Sebastian just feel so easily into his role of Daddy for a man.
All in all another good book from this author. Will read more from her.
This is a short erotic novel focused on age-play. This is not my kink, but I sort of have a kink for reading about kinks, especially the more taboo ones. It's really romantic when characters find acceptance with each other, and that concept is definitely at the center of this story, from both points of view. I am not physically disabled, either, so be aware that I'm doubly outside my lane in reviewing this book.
Usually I like it when two (or more) characters' unique traits fit together like puzzle pieces, in a romance: e.g., one character is socially awkward, and the other is highly extroverted, or even an actual con artist. It's unrealistic, but I don't read romance for realism. But still, the way the characters' traits fit together in this story makes me uncomfortable.
So, I had some problems with the book. However, it does explore the trust necessary to participate in this kind of play, which is why I was reading it. Also, through their relationship, both Mark and Sebastian start to heal from the wounds of their pasts, which is always romantic. If you like reading about this kink, or if you like these kinds of books, you may enjoy this.
Looks like I have found a new combination to enjoy, M. A. Innes and age play romance. This is the third such romance I'm reading that has been written by the author and I definitely have to appreciate the fact that despite these books all revolving around the same premise they are all very different and enjoyable in their own way.
This book follows Mark and Sebastian as they navigate their relationship and the kink. Sebastian's a widower and for the first time in a long time, he is truly ready for a new relationship and to be Daddy to someone new. Mark is Sebastian's virtual assistant and they have worked together for quite a while now when a mishap with receipts leads Mark to discover Sebastian's kink and he can't help but be intrigued.
This story was a really cute romance. Sebastian is experienced in the kink and serves as a pretty good introduction for Mark into the lifestyle. It also helped that they really clicked as a couple both within the lifestyle and outside of it.
I liked how this story works particularly for Mark. Mark has a physical condition that makes the use of diapers an everyday reality for him and I liked how this harrowing experience could be taken and turned into something positive for him.
This book also has Sebastian exploring his sexuality, from what I gather Sebastian seems to be pansexual but this isn't specifically mentioned in the book but that is how I would label him if asked to. This was interesting but wasn't the focus of the story and didn't get more than cursory attention.
Lucas and Gavin from 'His Little Man' also appear in this story as long-time friends of Sebastian and it was nice to see them, despite everything that happens in the plot.
This is a nice story but it was really short, it's basically a novella and I felt there was a lot more that could have been explored about Mark and Sebastian's relationship. The story is complete and satisfying but I still would have preferred more in regards to Mark and Sebastian's relationship and particularly, in regards to Sebastian's sexuality.
Eh. This is probably one of my least favorite age play books. It just was intensely rushed and there wasn't enough pages in this book to try and tackle a lot of the issues the author put into it. Also can we not have shitty secondary queer characters please? One of the MC's friends were the exact type of cis gay nen that I never want to interact with ever again and their behavior in this book really put me off. I get that they were secondary characters but there was so much time given to their judgmental, biphobic, queerphobic, piece of shit attitudes that I just don't have time for that shit. This would have been a much better book had Sebastian been out as bi or pan or sexually fluid instead of trying to shove a bi awakening subplot into the story.
First book by this author and it was pretty hot. I wasn't sure going into this book what it would be like but I have to say that's it's gotten me wanting to read more!!
First, the obligatory comment that I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a new topic for me, so please bear with me if I get some of the terminology or details about age play wrong.
Curious Beginnings is the story of Mark, a young man who because of physiological condition due to his premature birth has an under-developed bladder and urinary system. Because of this condition, he can't ever be more than 45 minutes or so away from a bathroom and has to wear "adult specialty underwear," or diapers to prevent accidents. Because of this, Mark has never had a real relationship due to his embarrassment over his situation. Mark works as a personal assistant for several people, one of who is Sebastian. Through a mixup at work, Mark discovers that Sebastion also runs an online store for people who are engaged in age play. (Sometimes also referred to as diaper play or Daddy/little kink). Sebastian and his former wife, who was killed by a drunk driver, were part of the age play community. Sebastian soon discovers Mark's issues and begins to draw him into the community as well. The rest of the story details the growing relationship between the two men. Having read a lot of BDSM novels, especially those dealing with Dominant/ submissive relationships, (KC Wells' Collars and Cuffs series being a favorite) I sort of compared this book to those, with just the added layer of the diaper play.
I liked Curious Beginnings. The characters were interesting and the story was sweet and you get your HEA ending. Mark struggles to deal with his first relationship in addition to his issues and Sebastian has to deal with the fact that his new "little" is a man. (Adds a layer of possible GFY- gay for you- to the story.) There are a couple of graphic sex scenes- the spanking scene was hot!
I had two criticisms about the story; minor ones, but concerns none the less. First, Sebastian's quick switch to being interested in a man was a problem. I've read a lot of GFY novels and this one happened just a bit too quick for me. Second, I just didn't like Sebastian's friends, Lucas and Gavin. THey just came across as mean and, considering their own involvement in this kink, very unaccepting of Sebastian and Mark's new relationship.
Overall, though, a cute, little (I can't believe I used that choice of word!) novel.
I rathered liked the majority of this book. It was interesting and really sweet. Then the ending happened. I'm okay with vague, non-descriptive sex scenes but when the entirety of the book is graphic and detailed shouldn't the big moment when they do actually do have sex be given the same amount of attention? Or is that just me? It's kind of weird right? What is supposed to be, or at least presumably, this monumental moment in their relationship is just glossed over like a typical YA novel afraid to talk about sex. And to top it all off, it literally takes place in like the last three pages of the book. It's weird.
Also for a book that claims to be an "age play romance" not a lot of age play is going on. Which, admittedly, might have been the point since a lot of people aren't comfortable with that subject matter but then why go to all the trouble of a nursery and detailed diaper-wearing?
I don't know. The whole thing was kind of odd and I feel like this is another classic case of if only it had like 20 more pages, if for no other reason than to add to the ending and put the story in its assumed genre. But other than that it's not terrible. It had its moments and there are no glaring issues that would make me hate it so 3 stars.
The book title is apt, due to it feeling like only the beginnings of a relationship. My biggest complaint is that it's too short and leaves me unsatisfied at the end. SO much more could have been written, to make this a complete, well-rounded story. What I got I liked. Enough to read 3x's - 2019, 2020, 2021.
Mark's health issues made him perfect for a daddy/boy relationship, one where the daddy wanted his boy in diapers (a favorite kink of mine). The uniqueness of this story is what sets it apart from other ABDL books (better written too). The ones where the people involved are doing it just for fun or to relieve stress.
Due to how short this is, everything felt rushed. It would have been nice to see Sebastian slowly become interested in, and develop feelings for Mark. He's never been with a man before, but he quickly adjusts and has no issues with making the switch. Mark does have some problems at first with being taken care of, but he takes to it after an unbelievably short period of time.
With more pages added, this could have gone from being a pretty good book to a very good one.
Short but good age play that falls into MM. I liked the flow of the story and the relationship - and how unique a bond the two guys could have. Would have liked a few more scenes. BOY can this author write dialogue that is just right. I'm really into good "talk" dirty or other during scenes as I find it super arousing - more than glances or touches...and finding an author who can write like this is awesome. I'm looking forward to exploring more by this author!
I fell in love with Mark right from the start. He needed a daddy more than any other character I have ever read. Sebastian is the perfect daddy for him. Two people who come together at just the right time. Mark had struggled for so long that you just want only the best for him. Sebastian has come to terms with his loss and is ready to move on. I especially like how the author ended it. Can't wait to read more from them.
I went into this book with an open mind not knowing if I would love or hate it. Its on the kinky side but its a fun kinky. It was sweet and loving and I'm definitely going to look for more from the author. If age play is not something you are open to reading about then avoid this book rather than reading and 1 staring it. If your looking for something different then this is the book for you.
This was suuuuch a sweet story. I haven’t read Innes in awhile and coming back to reading this was such a treat. It made me tear up, it was hot, it was sweet. A lovely relationship between men who’ve known each other for awhile but develop something new over an accidental delivery. This is the first time I’ve read a story like this where someone needed to use diapers for a health reason but it was perfect. The exploration of diaper kink was new (even as someone who has read age play), and I loved it!
While this is daddy kink and diaper play, I do not think it is appropriate to call this an age play romance as there is no real age regression or role play involved. In reality, Sebastian has a diaper fetish.
Can I also say I enjoyed how Innes approached Sebastian’s status as a widow and his sexuality? Both MCs do not have a label for their sexualities at first - Mark hasn’t really explored because of his struggles and Sebastian was in a relationship with a woman beforehand. There was never any hate thrown towards her at all, which was wonderful, and his feelings towards her were still important. It really did feel natural and organic to me of how these two human beings found love within one another.
The nitpick I have with the story is the first diaper scene - I felt Sebastian did manipulate the situation a tad by rushing that scenario, but I knew it was the pacing appropriate for such a story. I also didn’t like the mom who butts into someone’s love life and relationship so much, and implying she thought they were into a kink lifestyle with no other indication - or that Mark could only find love with someone who was into diaper kink. In reality, I don’t think a lot of people would find it so upsetting!
The side couple, Gavin and Lucas, were biphobic assholes. It’s hard for me to grasp two queer men in such a dynamic who would be so judgmental for someone after two years couldn’t be exploring a relationship with another man, and kept digging for details that truly weren’t their business. The way they kept pressuring, especially Lucas being an asshole, was messed up. I appreciated when Sebastian continued to shut him down, even though it eventually came out why Mark enjoyed the lifestyle. Seriously, fuck Lucas. You can care for your friend without being a hypocritical dick. Everyone is new to kink at some point.
I do wish there was more to flesh out the ending, but it was short and cute.
Uuuurgh, i don't know. I really enjoyed M.A. Innes's other book Silent Strength, so I thought this could be a good short book for in between other books, but this was just not for me. I felt such a disconnect from the characters. How did these two even fall in love? I have no idea.
This book also did something I really can't stand. Telling us that the characters talked and got to know each other, instead of showing us the conversation. Now, I understand that you don't want to write out every conversation the characters have, but if they are on their first date and we haven't really seen these two interact much before and then the author simply tells us that the date went well and they talked and learned more about each other, I feel nothing for these characters. Their whole relationship felt incredibly rushed and what was kinda funny to me is that the characters even acknowledged that, but repeatedly stating how they went into everything very fast and how it could actually be "too soon" to try and do certain things, but they always did these things anyway, and I didn't feel a thing about it.
Also, I'm going to be honest, I didn't know about Mark's "problems" when I went into this and at first I thought this could be really interesting and contain a lot of hurt/comfort, but I really wasn't into the direction this went in. I didn't like that this book was almost exclusively about diapers. I don't have anything against this part of age play, it's just not my thing.
Like I said, the characters seemed really flat to me and the whole conflict with Sebastian's friends seemed really fake and the writing really didn't help. I really didn't get why they behaved in such a disrespectful way towards their friend and his new partner, when they were encouraging him to find someone new twards the beginning of the story. And suddenly, once they hear about Mark's problem, everything is fine again. There was really no reason for them to be such jerks about it. And when they apologized, one of the characters said:
"I’m so sorry that you felt that isolated and I’m starting to understand what Sebastian sees in you.”
And I'm sorry, but that's just not how any normal human being would talk, in my opinion?
I'll definitely read more books from this author, because I know that they can write better than this, but this just didn't work for me at all.
Curious Beginnings was a short sweet Daddy/little novel🥹💓 There were a lot of ABDL scenes and each scene was made so sexy and hot 🥵🌶 The way Sebastian made Mark feel special and good during changing diapers was so amazing.🥹 Also the dirty talk and praises from Sebastian were super steamy and sweet 🤯💕
🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶🌶🌶
- Protective/Caring Daddy - Sweet shy virgin Little - Age Play (focused on diapers/no pacifier or bottle) - Dirty Talk - Praise Kink - Physically small Little
The one things I couldn’t really enjoy was the ending. I felt the ending bit rushed. I was looking for their first penetration scene since it’s their first time (Mark was virgin and Sebastian had never done it with men before). Sadly there were barely any talking and expressing emotions between two of them during the scene. Not intense. Not dirty. Not really memorable. Just few explanation for what happed. Very very short and no explicit description.
Although the ending was a little bit disappointing, I really enjoyed how Sebastian take care his baby boy. Especially ABDL scenses were so sweet and steamy. I really liked Sebastian and Mark. I’m glad I met this book and I’m sure I reread it soon.❤️

- a MM age play novella! workplace romance, disability rep, instalove, daddy k!nk, found family! - this is honestly such a cool concept of a plot - Sebastian having a melt down about it was so funny - their first date was so cute tho!! and they already have such good communication skills!! - why are his friends being such dicks? like calm down maybe - honestly this book is super super sweet but what i loved the most about this book is how Sebastian made Mark BLOSSOM, he was so determined for him to see his disability differently and i loved it so much - hahaha i honestly wish Mark’s mum had a bigger reaction to him acc going on an acc date, but it was very funny - i loved them getting to know each other and it was very quick but somehow didn’t feel rushed - Sebastian convincing Mark to go out on a date instead on his house was so good! and the date was so sweet - i’m really glad his friends apologised but like it was genuinely none of their business - great sex scenes!! - no third act break up and a very very sweet ending! - honestly this was just domestic fluff and i ate it right up!
Sweet little romance that I really enjoyed. It was a beginning for not just one character, but for the both of them. Mark was learning more about himself then he ever realized, while Sebastian was beginning a new relationship he didn't think he'd ever find again, and this time with someone of the same gender. It felt a little rushed, but I loved almost every word. I truthfully didn't understand however, how Gavin and Lucas could be so hostile. Maybe not using that word correctly, but they seemed so against Mark. They weren't as welcoming as I thought they'd be seeing him make their friend Sebastian happy. It could of been over protectiveness, maybe they were just hesitant because they knew Mark's deceased wife and weren't ready, but eh, I'm sure they had their reasons. Overall however, it was a very nice read.
Forgive me if I'm all over the place, I'm starting to try and write reviews for books I read, because a specific author recently revealed just how happy it makes her. So, I'm trying. :)

This was a sweet story. Poor Mark, resigned to never having love because he thinks he's broken. A mixup with a box of receipts from client Sebastian shows him that his perceived defect is a bonus feature and not a but to Sebastian. They embark on a wonderful new relationship, and it's so endearing to see Mark come to realize he's entirely loveable just as he is.
This would have been a solid 4 stars for me, and was, right up until the dinner party with Sebastian's so-called friends, Gavin and Lucas. For two people involved in the lifestyle (Gavin and Lucas are boy/Daddy), where acceptance is supposed to be everything, they're the worst kind of judgemental pricks. I get being concerned for Sebastian because from the outside it looks like Mark is taking to it all way too easily and quickly for someone brand-new to the kink, but as Sebastian's friends, when they're told (repeatedly and increasingly brusquely by Sebastian) that everything is fine, they should have let it go. No one outside a relationship knows everything that goes on in a relationship - you're not ENTITLED to know everything, and to think otherwise is completely unacceptable. If they were my friends, they'd have gotten both barrels for thinking they could come into my home and interrogate my boy over ANYTHING. Private medical info would NOT have been shared, and they'd have both been thrown out on their asses and not welcomed back until a proper apology was extended. The way the author allowed Mark and Sebastian to just roll over and take it was enough to lose a whole star, and quite frankly, soured the whole book for me.

It had taken a long time after losing his wife for Sebastian to feel ready to date. Ally must have been looking out for him from Heaven though because no sooner had he made the decision that he was ready a package mix up causes him to see Mark, his virtual assistant in a new light. Mark is a very special boy. Born premature he has grown into an undersized adult with a small underdeveloped bladder. That which he hates about himself makes him perfect for Sebastian. They are just so good together. They compliment each other in a way that helps them both heal. I loved how protective of Mark Sebastian was, especially with Gavin and Lucas. They were big jerks. In the end they apologized and everything between the four of them was fine but I was still a little pissed off at them because they should have trusted Sebastian enough to be happy for him. Especially because he seemed so happy. It's one thing to worry about your friend but another to be an asshole about it.
Ohhh! This book was so incredibly sweet and touching. I loved how both Sebastian and Marc had their own hurdles to overcome but that the attraction and passion between them brought them together despite them. This is the first book that I've read that approached the age play - and particularly diaper play - lifestyle from the side of someone who has first hand experience, but from a negative standpoint. I love reading about characters that have flaws, if you will, and how ultimately with love and patience, they find that they really aren't so "broken" after all. The world is made up of all kinds of people and I love how that diversity shines through in all of M.A. Innes' books. She is an absolute one-click author for me and a complete wizard with words and the world of kink. Thoroughly loved this book!
This book is no literary masterpiece, but then again I can't say it ever tried to convince me it was. We have our MC's, Sebastian and Mark, and we have our antagonists, Sebastian's nosy but well-meaning friends Lucas and Gavin. There's some character development, some light suspense surrounding the personal hangups of our MC's, and some sweet moments between Daddy and his Boy. Nothing too dark or intense happens, though there is mention of bullying that happened off page.
All in all, I found Curious Beginnings to be a light, quick read suitable for anyone interested in tags like age-play, diapers, and fluff. What you won't find is a heavy plot, which is good for anyone looking for a short book to fit in their busy schedule. Just don't read this in public ;)
This story of overcoming loss, love and acceptance was sweet. The MCs turned out to be so compatible and compassionate towards one another. Their close business relationship develops into a loving one full of respect, gentleness and passion. The story seemed so short and I found myself interested in learning more about Mark and Sebastian as their Daddy/ baby boy relationship continues to evolve. Mark found just who he needed after so many years of hurt, loneliness and pain. Sebastian found love again too. Together they found a special love, companionship, friendship and a partnership. M.A. Innes never fails to write very interesting, well written stories.
3 stars. Oh, this was so freaking cute! A very sweet story underneath the whole kink thing. The main characters, Sebastian and Mark, are likable and though their relationship is very insta-love I didn't mind. They are just the cutest things ever. Sebastian is very kind and patient. He wears his heart on his sleeve and just wants someone to take care of. Mark is precious and innocent and sweet and just all around stinking adorable. I really enjoyed them and their sweet romance to say the least. It has just the right amount of spice and actually ends with smut so it wraps up really well. Overall, it's nothing new or original when it comes to this kink but it was enjoyable.
