Christine Merrill has wanted to be an author for as long as she can remember. But one thing stood in her way: touch typing.

Six weeks spent on an IBM Selectric in her Sophomore year of high school proved that she would never be able to produce one readable page of manuscript, much less several hundred.

Twenty years passed, and she found ways to pass the time: marrying her high school sweetheart; having two sons; and taking an assortment of jobs in professional theater costume shops, including a miserable year and a half spent styling wigs for a certain hamburger-selling clown (who shall remain nameless, since I don't want to incur the wrath of a major American corporation) and a couple of weeks working on a TV movie with one of the sexiest men alive (whose name I'm happy to drop: Mark Harmon!).

During that time, someone invented word processing, and a reliable spell checker.

Christine returned to her childhood dream, only to discover that there was more to the whole writing thing than accurate typing. The next years were spent learning to tell stories that people might want to read, and trying to find someone who wanted to buy them. Her chance came when she won the RWA's Golden Heart Competition for unpublished manuscripts. The winning story, soon to be known as THE INCONVENIENT DUCHESS, was bought by the contest judges, the delightful editors at Mills & Boon, in Richmond, Surrey.

Christine is now busy writing her fifth book, and is more than slightly jealous that her manuscripts get to visit England, while she stays home in Wisconsin

Come Georgette Heyer*****

Regency London
Miss Amelia Summoner is not seeking a husband of her own. She’s looking out for her younger sister, ensuring the shy, beautiful, debutante is courted by a true gentleman. The newcomer, with his sights on political gain, just won’t do.
Rumored to be the illegitimate son of a Duke, Benjamin Lovell moves in society neither confirming nor denying the gossip. He’s ambitious and aware the shortest route to Parliament is via marriage to the most sought after girl of the season. If he could only avoid the over protective sister.
Be careful who you wish for. Realizing his mistake, Benjamin enlists Amelia’s aid, in addition to that of his best friend. This charming regency makes for a relaxing weekend escape.

I liked the characters and much of the story deserved 4 stars. Unfortunately, the middle of the book fell apart a little. The hero acted in a way I found very irritating which took away from the overall story. I would definitely read this author again however as there were very unique characters and secondary characters all with some depth which was very interesting.

"The battle of the sexes is on! An old maid and a dandy square off in this lively, thrilling tale. Readers will enjoy the authentic dialogue and setting, and especially the wicked machinations of a determined heroine. Merrill pens another winner..." (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

This was a wonderfully complicated story of love finding you when you least expect it. Lady Amelia (Amy) Summoner is determined to pick the perfect man for her sister, Lady Belle who is special in many ways. Amy is totally against Benjamin Lovell marrying her sister, but he pursues the cause. Being near to him in too many situations brings out the desire in both of them. She cannot let this marriage take place.
The story has a few twists and turns and I wondered when reading it, how will this end. I enjoyed this book so much. Totally believable ending that will make you happy.

The story is set in the Regency Era, during the London Season.
Merrill uses the trope of Shakespeare's: "Taming of the Shew," but provides a sympathetic
reason for Amy's shrewish behavior.
Also Benjamin is given his own secrets which motivate his actions.

I think the authors likes to ruin their own books. Like, in this case. The book started quite nicely, with funny moments... but the author decided to ruin it afterwards. It was a chore to finish this... book.
It was awful.
