As the title may hint this story is about alternate or fall back plans and, of course, it is for the future of ODC, Darcy and Elizabeth. Most of us are probably familiar with My Best Friend’s Wedding and the premise of that in which childhood friends Julianne and Michael have a deal to marry each other if they were still single by age 28. This story has a similar premise.

This modern day variation begins June 2002 at Oakham Mount in the Poconos (Pennsylvania) where Darcy and Elizabeth meet when Richard pushes Darcy to distract Charlotte’s friend while he make whoopee with C. in his tent. So Darcy utters his insult (almost a requirement in JAFF) about Richard pushing the ugly friend on him. (And we’re off!) Elizabeth overhears him and stomps off to find some rocks to sit upon and stew in her anger. He follows her and after eating much crow, they talk through the night about many and varied subjects and as day dawns they decide to make up their own Plan B…if in 10 years neither is married they will find each other and marry. But this is modern times so there are all the pre-nupt and conditions any intelligent and sensible modern couple would set down. They go to his tent, write it all out, sign and kiss to seal the deal…and then part ways with his promise to make a copy and send it to her.

Darcy had not planned on having his world cave in around him the same day: his father dies and he must, as in canon, take over the family business and the rearing of his 13-year-old sister. There are the usual family members giving him advice and wanting to take custody of Georgiana. And then you know the havoc hormones will wreak as a girl becomes a woman so his hands are very full.

Fast forward: March 2012, Dallas, Elizabeth's Wedding Day….now I can’t go on with this story. I will only say this: she is not marrying Darcy.

The author basically writes two stories for us here. And we have Darcy working out of NYC while Elizabeth has made a career and romance related move to Texas. So part of the fun is in how they meet up and what happens then. I loved the airport scene in which Elizabeth tries to go back to find her man and then security won’t let her through without all the rigmarole of checking bags and going through body scans, etc. And then there is the 45 minutes Darcy spends in one city’s airport before he turns around and gets a flight back to where he came from. Oh, joy.

The Bennets are a mess, as usual, with Mrs. Bennet being over-the-top hateful. Characters by the name of Richard, Georgiana, Anne, Jane and Bingley play a part but are not necessarily anything like those in JA’s P&P…or are they? I won’t name names but someone resembles a flower child and then someone else becomes that cliché suburban parent with the mini-van and soccer coaching position as this person takes on a new and married life…with children (enjoyed that parallel story).

The author pulls the rug out from under us at maybe 30% of the way through the story: no warnings, no hints – Kaboom! But she does an excellent job of cleaning up that for the readers. So don’t throw the story in the trash; give her a chance to bring all the loose ends together and tie them up. I do love her stories so. But know this…it is a long story so again carve out some time.

This is a Modern P& P masterpiece. I spent most of the past 8 hours reading on my laptop wrapped in a blanket, it is wet and cold here, but only dinner & the new Sherlock could drag me away.

This is a Modern P&P Inception style story. I can't explain it any better. You start reading only to learn there is a major TWIST which I refuse to spoil (if you absolutely must know DM me - but really just read the story.)

Lizzy and Darcy meet at a college frat camping trip and after talking all night they make a pact that if they are unmarried in 10 years they will be each other's Plan B. Ten year later Lizzy is a Pharmaceutical developer in Dallas and Darcy is the head of Pemberley Investments in NY. Neither are married but can two strangers find true love and happiness based on promise.

You'll just have to read it and find out.

This story told me: be an independent woman... Unless you get a rich man. Kinda disappointing.

This story leads you along with amazing feels between the characters. I would have told you that this is not really a Pride and Prejudice variation, but just a romance using only the names. Just as I was thinking of how I would word the review for that - BAM! - holy crap. I will not say what it was, but the author rocked my world. This really is a P&P variation!!

The modern take was very well done. I love the characters. There were two scenes that had me laughing out loud and then forcing my husband to listen to me read them out loud. Young Belle definitely deserved her reward! You will have to read it to find out what I mean. The author also borrowed names from other Austin novels so it fun to find the references.

This version is rather steamy without being very detailed and had a very long HEA, but at that point, I happy about it. I would LOVE to own this story!

I LOVED this Modern tale of P&P. I really think the author should publish this version. The twist is magnificent. I truly thought this was wonderful. I won't say more, only point others to Leslie's excellent review if you want more on plot. But this is well written and a perfect JAFF modern tale. bravo!
