"Super Sonic vs. Hyper Knuckles"...as well as the "Mecha-Madness" special...didn't I say that Sonic and Knuckles brawls were the greatest parts of a "Sonic" comic story? Also..."Knuckles' Chaotix"...I'm impressed they've managed to keep Knuckles' "friends" in the main series of the comic even now--but it could be due to them bringing back Vector, Espio and Charmy in the video games, as well. I'd love to see Mighty back in the video game universe, personally! I'd rate this one higher than 5 stars if I could! *lol*

It's amazing reading Book Two and looking back Book One and comparing the artwork..So much change. There is even change from the start of book two with the colouring - everything starts out as barely shaded and as you get to the end the character and surroundings have more depth to them.

It does feel kinda strange reading Sonic in this smaller format as it's smaller than a usual comic or book. It's a book that'd very easily go in a backpack or under a pillow.

This is full of action with tuns of action from the whole team plus some new enemies along with some oldies that are forever trying to defeat Sonic and co.

I certainly remember this. The authors strain to show that the Chaotix are really cool and to justify having superpowered battles. Ignoring the fact that the plot here is entirely an excuse, the big problem with the book is that the superpowered battles don't always translate well. They're not all bad, but you want to compare it to something like DBZ where the increase in power makes for a more interesting battle. (Well, allegedly.)

On one hand, this volume contains Mecha Madness, which remains by favourite Sonic story from the early years. On the other hand, it contains everything else.

Mecha Madness really should have been included in the Archives as it is a direct continuation of issue 39. Knuckles willingly robotocizes himself so that he can take on Mecha Sonic, and there's a lot of smashing. SO MUCH SMASHING! But all the characters feel true to themselves, and the dialogue feels less stilted than usual. It's just a fun, ridiculous plot with great art. Woo! (I'm ignoring the Mammoth Mogul story at the end...)

The rest... well, Knuckles and the Chaotic serves to introduce us to Knuckles' friends... who have no personality until much later. Some rat person is working with Robotnik. Knuckles loses his powers? Or something. It's a pretty forgettable issue, followed by two backstories about Knuckles losing his friends to the mysterious Archimedes. This plot has been drawn out WAY too much.

Super Sonic VS Hyper Knuckles is a waste of paper. Knuckles and Sonic get in a giant fight for no reason. They punch each other for many many pages. The end. At least the art is solid in this one, but it's so pointless that I am just irked by its existence. The back story introduces us to Locke, Knuckles' dad. And dear god does this plot not hold up as an adult. Adult Guardians are terrible parents, and Locke throws himself into what seems to be a WALL OF FIRE, scarring his son who thinks that he is dead now forever. WTF. WTF echidnas. Your parenting choices are terrible. Stop that.

There's a backstory from Sonic Live about the quest Knuckles goes on for the Sword of Acorn. It's crappy fantasy junk that just doesn't fit in the overall story. But hey, at least Spaz drew this one?

So yeah... not the strongest selection in this book :l
