First in a New Series!

"My name is Kaeleen Donovan. I'm a Theosian-a minor goddess. They call me Fury."

By day, I run the Crossroads Cleaning Company, and I also read fortunes and cast hexes at Dream Wardens, a magical consulting shop. But by night, I'm oath-bound to Hecate, goddess of the Crossroads. Hecate charged me from birth with the task of hunting down Abominations who come in off the World Tree and sending them back to Pandoriam.

When the Thunderstrike-an ancient artifact from the time of the Weather Wars-is stolen by the Order of the Black Mist, Hecate orders me to find the magical device. The chaos magicians are out to upset the balance that Gaia instilled during the World Shift. But I soon discover that the leader of the Black Mist is out to do more than stir up trouble-he's looking to set up a new world order with himself on the throne. Caught between two rival forces, will my friends and I be able to survive as we search for the Thunderstrike and attempt to stop a war that could bring about the end of the civilization?

2.5 Meh

Not a lot I can say about this series. It was pretty boring for some reason, I skimmed a lot, I'll probably not go on with it.
Maybe it's me, I've been reading a lot of UF lately, but oh well. I still can't say this one caught my attention.

I would have given this five stars if so much page time hadn't been dedicated to describing the surroundings. I legit don't give a shit where that particular river goes or how dense the forest is or what sand dunes look like. A cursory description would have been more than enough considering how much myth and magic we're dealing with. Keeping track of the various gods, goddesses, Abominations, bog-dogs, Greenlings, Fae, werecreatures, and more... in addition to the various changes wrought by the World Shift... yeah, I don't need to know that this river used to be bigger and lined with oak trees before the world went to shit.

That being said... ooooh, I like this fucked up world! Fury is a super bad-ass in the service of Hecate and her closest pals are a hawk-shifter and a Fae. Together, they kicked butt pretty spectacularly and I had a great time following along with their attempts to save the world from another shift. The romance was... a little odd. But I like where the romance is going. I think one of my favorite parts is Hecate and how... personable she was. She's still a freaking goddess and you do NOT want to cross her, but she also had a sense of humor and repeatedly showed a caring and nurturing side that I usually don't see in other books that feature the Greek gods and goddesses. Usually they're characters that will kill you with a glance and humans have to walk on eggshells around them. Not so in this book. Hecate seemed like a really powerful favorite aunt. Loved it.

Overall, this was an awesome read. I'm glad I waited on reading it because the next installment should be out next month and I won't have to wait long to get another fix of Fury & Friends. And from the blurb, I believe some of the questions I had in the spoiler tag above will probably be answered. Really looking forward to it, but I hope and pray that the extensive scene descriptions won't make an appearance.

First in the Fury Unbound paranormal fantasy series revolving around Kaeleen Donovan, a minor goddess working for Hecate in Seattle.

My Take
The series arc is of the good guys against the bad, the usual. Only this time it's gods, Gaia, and all their agents against an order of black magicians intent on bringing chaos back into the world, which would unmake what currently exists.

Hmmm, there are a few parts, big ones, that I wouldn't object to unmaking. That corporatocracy can collapse along with their minions, for one. Of course, this story's arc introduces us to this world and what's at stake, as well as some doom-and-gloom regarding what's happened in the past. Just to make us worry more. It also provides the first step in the series arc, as Fury saves the day…and the world with a cozy group of core characters who are her friends and the easy relationship she has with the goddess who holds her leash.

A few slip-ups, but on the whole, Galenorn had a nice touch on the info dumps, and the action in Fury Rising introduces us to all the groups involved in keeping their world functioning, heck, existing!

There are inconsistencies. On one hand, Galenorn says the World Shift took place centuries ago, and that it took forever for the world to rebuild itself to a technology acceptable to Gaia. Then she notes that many of the older buildings in Darktown had already been through the World Shift. Impressive?? I'll say. Their construction work must've been really, really, really good!! With a vastly different past history than our world.

Galenorn uses first person protagonist point-of-view, which can be rather annoying with Fury. She's supposed to be a minor goddess, which to my mind means she's got some power. You wouldn't know it by her actions and that brain of hers has a lot of maturing to do.

The Story
It was the Weather Wars centuries ago that woke Gaia, and earth is still on probation with atill-missing artifacts that can affect the weather taboo. So when Thunderstrike turns up missing, the gods and Gaia's agents are in a tizzy, with Hecate's favorite Theosian dispatched to find it.

The Characters
Kaeleen Donovan is a Theosian, a minor goddess called Fury and oath-bound to Hecate to hunt down Abominations. She runs the Crossroads Cleaning Company and does readings and hexes at Dream Wardens. Her weapons include the razor-sharp Xan, a matched dagger, and the whip tattooed on her thigh. Queet is Kaeleen's spirit guide, a schoolteacher eaten by an Abom, conscripted by the Fates, and assigned to Kae. Her mother, Marlene, had worked for ViCad Corp, as had her father, Terry, who died of blue-lung disease.

Jason Aerie, a two hundred-and-twenty-four-year-old hawk-shifter and magus who owns Dream Wardens, was a friend of Kae's mother (and Kae has been in love with him for years). He's engaged to Eileen Wallace, a Corp-Rat and a hawk-shifter. Terabet Wallace had been her mother. Hans is the brawn of Dream Wardens, a Theosian who loves motorcycles and is bound to Thor. His girlfriend is training to be a Valkyrie. Tam O'Reilly is a techno-witch and a Bonny Fae, who also works for Dream Wardens.

Jason's sister, Shevron, runs a bakery, Up-Cakes. Liza is a store clerk. Leonard is Shevron's fifteen-year-old son.

Hawk-shifters originally…
…came from the wooded Black Forest, not today's city. Terrance, a.k.a., Bodie, had been Jason's mentor, the shaman who had to disappear, and now works for the Crystal Guardians. Cast is the term for a group of hawks. Mahit is their current shaman.

The Fae are…
…also called the Bonny Fae or Otherkin, and live in the Wild Wood, Briarwood. The UnderBarrow is a fae kingdom of Tuatha de Dannan ruled over by the Lord of the Barrow. Breena is one of the serving girls in the UnderBarrow.
Seattle is…
…ruled by a Regent and includes…

The Peninsula of the Gods (PotG) where…
…the gods, the emissaries of the gods, and their temples are based. The Temple Valhalla; Naós ton Theó, a temple of Grecian gods; and, the Coliseum, which is for Roman gods, are some of the divinities. The Convocation of Gods set up treaties and codes of conduct among the gods.

Hecate is the goddess of dark magic and Crossroads, where worlds merged and met and possibilities multiplied, and the Mother of Phantoms. Coralie is Hecate's secretary. Theosians are agents of divine justice and include Dane, a Theosian yoked to Tisiphone.

Other Elder Gods include Papa Legba. The Fates work with Hecate frequently. The Pythia is the Oracle. Themis. Zeus is the god of the realm. His wife, Hera, is still the jealous type. Who can blame her?

The World Regency Corporation builds…
…weapons and armor for the Devani. They've also hidden away an ancient artifact,
Thunderstrike, from the time of the Weather Wars. Nat Crayburg (known as Lord Whinypants in the Junk Yard) works for his daddy, one of the vice-presidents in research and development.

The Seattle Magician's Guild is…
…a membership required of every magus and witch.

Neighborhoods include…
…the Market Square, which is the center of Darktown, an area still filled with the rubble from Gaia's wrath. The Sandspit was created when one of Gaia's lightning strikes vaporized the train yards. Now it's home to a portal that spits out dangerous magic. The Bogs is just as wild; people who go in, rarely come out. The Metalworks is an industrial district. The Junk Yard started as a holding pen for Jagulins, big-cat-shifters fleeing Carpaxia in South America. Now it's a haven for the UnderCult of thieves and criminals. And where Carver, a magus who works with automatons, brutalized Kae's mother. Phoenix Rising is a magicians' bar in the Junk Yard. Tulf is the barkeep. The Tremble is home base for NW Quarters gangs who hate Theosians. The Trips is another neighborhood.

The American government is…
…composed of five corporations, the Conglomerate, a corporatocracy that will take and use anyone. The Corp-Rats are their policing arm, and they've hired the Devani, ruthless, ultra self-righteous agents of light, who came from Elysium. Now they pursue justice, working for the Corp-Rats and the government-ruled-by-money's idea of justice. They also use sky-eyes, drones that spy on citizens and can attack them. The government hates Theosians and chips them all, restricting where they could live.

Internationally, the EuroAsiAmerican Alliance keeps any country not a member at the agrarian level. Bifrost, Scandnavaland, is one of the remaining cities.

Meteocramancy is forbidden and punishable by death, but I have no idea what it is.

Gaia is…
…the great mother and spirit of earth who woke, furious, and initiated the World Shift centuries ago, which opened doors on the World Tree.

Greenlings are…
…based on Arbortariam and are Gaia's henchmen, living extensions of earth, older than the Fae, and repositories of natural history. Zhan, a hedgemite, will take Fury to Jerako, an Elder among the Greenlings. The Crystal Guardians are a secret organization run by the Greenlings.

Lightning Strikes is…
…a worldwide organization directly under Gaia's authority and prevents the use of weather magic (which is illegal). They are above any government and are policed by the Greenlings. Tigra is a weretiger agent.

The Enemy
The Order of the Black Mist is…
…a group of chaos magicians who want magic restrictions lifted. Lyon Burkenwald, originally from the Black Forest, works with black magic (fire is a specialty), and rules the Tunnels. He believes in human supremacy, that the gods have outlived their purpose, and that Chaos is the only answer. He intends to open the door to Chaos and let loose the Chaos gods. Weaver.

Pandorian is…
…one of the doors that opened and is a plane that feeds off the energy from Chaos, another plane off the World Tree, and is where the Abominations live. Soul stealers, they sometimes go in-body and devour their victims to the bone. The soul-hole is at the back of their necks when they're in-body.

Miscellaneous Info
Werewolves birth lycanthropes while humans birth Theosians. Tommy-Tee is musical and an Opish addict. Lamar is a trendy fashion designer. Alisa, Cindy, and a friend are college students at University Hall, looking for spells. Marie is worried about her sister, Delia, who was murdered by Donal Tripoli, an Uptowner. Jessica had been Eileen's neighbor. Astrigators are energy suckers and can transmit the energy to the person who summoned them. Ker demons.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a range of purples from the blue-violet background of skyscrapers lit in the night in the background to the full moon peeping through clouds. The author's name is in white with an info blurb between first and last, and Jason in his hawk form, flying to the right, his wings caught up in the "r n". The red-and-black-haired Fury crouches in profile, her head tilted down to look at us, wearing her black leather jacket and shorts, the better to access that whip tattooed to her thigh. She's holding her gleaming sword at a downward angle, the light from it blending with the blue violet to make a red-violet gradation rising up the title, which is at Fury's feet. The series information is at the very bottom in white with the publisher's logo on the left.

I suspect the title is more about introducing us to Fury Rising rather than events in the story.

I didn't get into this book straight away but in the end I was hooked. The way the para-normal's are part of the world is cool and I like the characters. Hecate is cool. I liked her character very much the way she's a big God but in reality she cares about her fury. I like how Kaeleen's weapons are tattooed onto her and only she can summon and use them. I liked the idea of the world being destroyed and the hunt for the weather disc. I wonder what will happen next to the group.

A great beginning for a magical series! Good characters, good story, good world building. Little bit of romance, but not overpowering. Author has a habit of using outrageous terminology, words that are about four inches long! Some of them were valid, but some of them I couldn't find in the dictionary. All in all, it was fun and I went right on to read the second book with full intentions of reading the other three in the series. Recommended.

Fury Rising is not the first Galenorn's book I'd read. I read her Witchling and Night Mist, and quite enjoyed it. I know that Galenorn practice Craft (is it the same with Wiccan or New Age? :/) and remember my old favorite tv series, Charmed, any books with witch and myth are always welcome. Fury Rising is, I believe the first book by Galenorn when she decide to going indie. Sometimes when author go indie, especially when she usually published her books traditionally, its bring pang to my heart. Sometimes the world is just unfair :(.

Enough with chit chat, I don't think that Fury Rising is bad. The story is just okay. The big problem is the world building. Too much going on, too much supernatural creature, too much plot and I feel that Galenorn try to cramped it all into one book. I know that this book also suffer from"first book syndrome", and usually, almost all urban fantasy I read have this syndrome. The author busy to explain their world building and forget that not all readers appreciate that. My mind keep jumbling to read description about Theosian, Devani, shifter, Fae, Crossroads, weather magic, mages, etc. Sometimes it can be overwhelming of sort. Also, I don't like how Galenorn explain Fury's past. The way she write about it, the interchange is not smooth. Can't explain it how with my limited English, I just feel that Galenorn can write Fury's past in one chapter, not try to mix it with present.

I did like Fury, and I think she kickass. My favorite maybe Hecate. She's a goddess, she's fierce, mean, but not that bitchy meanie like some goddesses I know (*cough Artemis, cough*). I can see that Hecate care for Fury, not just because Fury is her protege, but as a goddess, she act fair toward her. Not much in romance department, but I anticipating the blossoming romance between Fury and her Bonny Fae friend, Tam. On the other side, I want to know how Galenorn fix relationship between Fury and Jason, the hawk shifter that Fury have crush with. Sadly, the antagonist Lyon, just have a small part. Maybe because like what I said before, too much is going on.

I like the idea about weather wars and how Galenorn bring issue about global warming. Fury Rising is okay for the first installment of a new series, and definitely make me want to read the next.

Wow, was this one a big info dump at the start, so much so that it turned me off. I know with a new series you need to set the rules, set up the world, but the way this one was executed turned me off. This one just wasn't for me.

I got this book for free! While I did like Kaeleen, aka Fury, and her friends Jason and Tam, I found the story line confusing at times! Too much information is thrown at the reader, making it hard to make sense of the world! It felt like a mishmash of characters thrown together!

Whoa! The information dump in the prologue and the beginning chapters was too much for me to take. I was bored. I found things hard to follow. Sorry but I don’t think this book (or series) is for me.

A bit of a rough start but satisfying end...

This book was a bit of a rough start for me, but I think that is because the world building was so much deeper than I was expecting. It took me quite a bit of time to get used to the world and how different it was from Galenorn's other series that I've read. But again she came through with her relatable and likeable characters to pull me along for the ride regardless.

There are some errors in the book that made a few passages hard to read or caused them to take me out of the story. I'm occasionally an editor myself so it jumped out at me, but most readers may not even notice.

The ending was satisfying though and definitely made me eager to read on to book two. The Greenlings are fascinating, and I'm excited to see what other differences in creatures, gods, and the world come out later on.

I've been reading Galenorn's work for many years now. I started with the Otherworld series, found my way to her Chintz and China books, and then absolutely fell in love with the Indigo Court.
So far though, the Fury world is leaving me unsatisfied. The first book in this series, I found myself being pulled out of the storyline too much by errors and additions to the story that served no purpose.
I enjoy the world-building. The environment in which a story takes place is often just as much a character as the people/animals/etc. that propels the story forward.
If I were to sum up how I feel about this book, I would say that this felt more like a first novel for a writer than from someone that has written as many books as Yasmine Galenorn has. The characters aren't very strong and are extremely wishy-washy. They lack depth, feeling one-dimensional. Danger doesn't feel real, consequences unimportant, and I don't much care what happens to this world. I have all of the books, and I will read all of them. Hopefully, the story will strengthen and the characters will develop some more personality as the author gets to know them.
I like the idea of the story, the idea of the world. But I will say I feel a bit of a repeat of themes and elements from past books.

The plot was interesting enough but the characters were too boring for me. That weird undecided love triangle didn't help either. I won't be continuing with the series.

Kaeleen Donovan is a Theosian-a minor goddess- and is oath bound to Hecate, goddess of the Crossroads. By day she runs the Crossroads Cleaning Company and reads fortunes as well as casts hexes at Dream Wardens, a magical consulting shop. But come the night, I am at Hecate’s bidding and they call me Fury. I am good at taking down Abominations. But there is danger coming as the Order of the Black Mist steal an ancient artifact, the Thunderstrike, and is hell bent on changing the world order. Hecate has charged me in getting that device back but as Fury soon discovers, the leader of this order is determined to put him on the throne and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Can Fury and her friends stop them before Gaia decides to wipe the earth of everyone on it in retaliation?

Wow, just wow. Ms. Galenorn delivers a perfect introduction to her new series, Fury Unbound with a kick-ass heroine who is just as intriguing as this author’s other characters in her books and a storyline that will knock you off your seat. FURY RISING is a perfect introduction to this author’s work if you have never tried her before. This is an author who is a master storyteller who knows how to build a world perfectly, with captivating yet unique characters and action that keeps you on your toes. The action is nonstop and a perfect afternoon read for me one weekend recently. The story flows smoothly and quickly as I was drawn into the story of a world where the world as we knew it now has changed drastically. The author does a great way in weaving that portion of why, who, and when within the storyline. It kept my attention till the very end.

This author is on my auto-buy no matter what she writes. Ms.Galenorn delivers such captivating yet unique characters that I can not get enough of her work. In FURY RISING, we meet Kaeleen, ‘Kae’ to her friends or as Fury when she is working as Hecate’s blade. She is delightful, independent and quite entertaining. I loved her and felt she was a perfect addition to this author’s kick-ass characters list. Plus we got some interesting secondary characters as well that kept me riveted. I loved the interaction Fury has with Hecate and found myself laughing at times at her smart comments.

FURY RISING is a perfect edge of the seat ride that will take you on such an adventure till the very end of the book. I couldn’t get enough of this series and just had to grab book two, right after I finished this one. I am eager to see where this author goes in the series as Fury goes against a big bad evil that will either win the day or she’ll stop it in its tracks. If you never tried this author, I highly recommend her if you enjoy kick-ass characters, storylines that weave a spell around you and keep you eager for more. I can’t wait to see what else this author has up their sleeves for her readers in the future.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement

Gods, goddesses, pantheons, explosive magic, vengeful antagonists, and a world on the brink of destruction is just the beginning in Galenorn’s newest PNR series-Fury Unbound. This action-packed supernatural conflict is saturated with Galenorn’s trademark wicked humor, personable characters, and explicit attention to detail. Set in an alternative post-apocalyptic Seattle, the world has been changed drastically due to a temper tantrum thrown by the goddess, Gaia. One woman, Kaeleen Donovan aka Fury, a servant to Hecate, is charged with recovering an ancient artifact before it falls into the wrong hands. As with most fantasy-based stories, the world building, and character setup holds a large part of the storyline though I found the sheer amount of information pushed at us in the beginning daunting and somewhat confusing. The story soon settles and we are off as Galenorn takes readers on a wild untamed ride that will leave readers ready for the next installment. My only qualm, besides the information overload in the beginning, was the weak interaction with the main antagonist . I hope the following novels allows them more on-screen time.

This book started out really good and the story was interesting enough. There was too much information trown at us in the beginning but it's not so bad.
I love books about Greek mythology and this one has other mythologies as well. As I said, the book is interesting.
But.
I couldn't 'connect' with the main character. I felt like I was pulled in too many directions along with her.
Also, the romance sucked. We have a sort of love triangle. She has a crush on a guy for years, but at some point she starts being attracted to another guy, even though she's known him for years and she didn't even notice him romantically until that point. So yeah, the attraction seemd forced.

So no, I will not finish it.

DISCLAIMER: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.....

Post apocalyptic stories aren't my favorite in the world but this series may very well be the start of me changing my mind. Yasmine's books have always been dear to me and this one is no exception. Kae is a devoted follower of the Goddess Hecate and is commanded to find The Thunderstrike and return it before it used to destroy what's left of the world. At times the story was a little hard to get into but that could be because I don't generally like post apocalyptic stories. But all in all a great start to the series :)

I liked Fury, and the world is interesting, but I found the pacing strange, and the whole thing too obviously a set-up for the next book. I'll probably read the next book at some point, but I don't feel any urge to rush to do so.

The first of a new series, and the first time Yasmine Galenorn self-published (back in 2016) after leaving her contracted obligations with Berkley publishing.

Fury has her signature paranormal magic, a strong female lead, sexy men who let the female lead while they support her and her duties in the paranormal world. The world is complete and layered, the paranormal rules make sense. Gods, shifters, and fae - oh my!

A good beginning to a new series and a new career.

As a developmental editor for a small press I often have comments related to the quality of the editing. For the most part, these are unnoticeable to the average reader. I'm going to tuck the rest of the comments under spoilers - these are only editing comments, don't bother reading them unless you like the behind-the-scenes, nitty gritty of polishing a manuscript.

I was kind of scared of this book to be honest. But once I started reading. OMG I got sucked in. No putting it down unless dragged away by the skin of my teeth.
Man it was AWESOME
I loved that fact that the gods had personalitys, and that there were shifters, and only a couple other "Safe" places in the world. And that they hack her thing that marked her as what she is to say yea you can find me nah nah. But they have these weird otherworldly police things and man.... if you thought cops here were bad? Going to another part of a poison world to have your energy drained and be drums on poison gas, or something like that? Not cool.
And magic. OHHH sweet magic!!! They got the clock and danger thing. But not Harry Potter. It's, oh I can do this, but do you have this trick up your sleeve so I can rule the world and piss off one of the myth gods? Uhhh, you want to piss off Gaia, or Zues, or Athena, or Thor, or or or or. OR Hades, Or Artemis? Oh yea people are stupid in this book.
But the tattooed weapons are awesome. If only that worked IRL. I mean seriously. I'm no gun lady. Can't see to work them. But to have an extra blind can on me. Or knife, or blades on my back. SO SO useful.

See if the end of the world is coming.... Which honestly? I see it coming with all of this fucked up - ness going on. But that just me. If the world is going to reset. And people survive. The ones that have a gene or have a chance to burrow and be safe until things pass? You know whatever one has to do to survive? I honestly hope magic comes into existence. Do you know how much that would make life more interesting. And No I'm not talking about any Harry Potter BS. I'm talking about Devon Monk, Anne Bishope, Maria Snyder, Yasmine Galenorn, Kristen Britten (first two books), Tolkien, Jeanine Frost. I could go on because I read too much. But to you get my drift.
Damn good opening to a book. And I got started. AndZOMG!!

I've seen the name of Yasmine Galenorn for years but never really investigated any of her series; so, when "Fury Rising" popped on my radar I thought that I would give it a try. First and foremost, I really enjoyed the character of Fury. Her disheartening beginnings easily makes you like her. Her background pulls you in and causes you to want to know more. Also, Ms. Galenorn does a great job at world building.

Kaeleen Donovan, aka: Fury is a Theosian or minor goddess who is charged from Hecate. Thirteen years prior she was left on the doostep of the Dream Wardens, a magical consulting firm and at night she works for Hecate. For years she has held a crush on Jason, the owner of the shop but he is engaged to another that is until she is killed. Fury knows that now is not the time to consider her feeling for Jason but someone else has his eyes on her. It is another friend, a member of the Bonney Fae, Tam.

When an magical artifact is stolen and Aboms (abominations) begin appearing in town, Fury is charged to retrieve it before Gaia (The Earth Mother) decides to destroy life as we know it. The magical artifact has the ability to change weather patterns causing earthquakes, storms etc. The earth has already barely lived through the Weather War and we do not need a repeat of that. However, this journey will be one of the most challenging of Fury's career. She will have to go to the very place she hates, the place where her mother was murdered and she escaped: the Junk Yard.

The world building in this story is very impressive. You feel as though you are there. I also liked the characters although I wished that Ms. Galenorn have provided a little more information on the background of the bad guys. There is plenty of action (magical and physical). I will definitely be going on to other books in this series.

I am reading Galernorn's Sisters of the Moon, or The Otherworld Series, and when I found out about this series, I decided to check it out.

Galenorn once again creates a world of magic and the mundane beautifully blend into a new world where not only the Fae roam, werewolves and other shifters exist, but Gods and Goddesses from many myths are alive and well.
And like her Otherworld, the world Kay inhabited came about with its own magical bang. Of course, every good series needs a heroine or hero, and of course a villain of some sort.
Kay is a Theosian, specifically a Fury. So her life is complicated. She serves the Goddess Hecate, but has a semblance of a normal life, side jobs to keep the rent paid and food on the table.
As the story progresses, the rollercoaster rides begins, between Kay's past, the world changing threat that looms over them all, and its all balanced with the characters lives as they intersect and life itself throws its own curve balls, good and bad, as the ride continues and by the end, you realize you want to follow these characters and see where life takes them.
I book that's worth the time to read and a promise of a good series.

A difficult first few chapters but then great.

The author has created a fascinating world here so different from our own it's hard to grasp. The first few chapters.throw you straight into.the story and no.time.is.given to really explaining this different world. As a result you have to pick it.up as you go along hence the difficult start but once you get a few.chapters in the characters begin to take.over and the story flows.so much better. There are a few complex words eg, agromancy, that give you a pause but the lead Fury is a very interesting character. Born into a world of God's and Magic she is a servant of the Goddess Hecate responsible mainly for.dealing with abominations (soul stealing monsters) that appear in her world from a portal in the World Tree. Her main companions are Jason (a hawk shifter) who) takes her in after the death of her parents and raises her and Ran (a member of the Bonnie Fae) who works with Jason in his magic shop. Fury also has a spirit guide called Queef who helps withbher duties to Hecate. The book is set in Seattle but not a Seattle anybody will recognise, thanks to a map you can follow along and the author has established an interesting start to a new urban fantasy series. I look forward to seeing how book.two reads.

This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read "Fury's Magic"!

Kaeleen became Fury when she fully took up the mantle of her service to Hecate. As a Theosian (minor goddess) she was bound to serve an Elder God since birth. Hecate isn't the easiest Mistress but she is better than most. Jason, a hawkshifter, raised Kae after her mother 's brutal murder at the hands of The Carver , a serial killer. She has always had a kind of heroworship crush on him that can go nowhere because of his chosen mate Eileen. Tasked with finding an illegal weather magic device, Fury can use all the help she can get. Will she be able to recover the Thunderstrike before it does enough damage to wake Gaia? The world, as she knows it, will not survive another WorldShift. How long will the Greenlings wait before taking their own action? What is really going on? Are these people really that crazy?

DNF @ 50%. I officially give up on this author. The writing really has not improved much since her first novel. The problems with it seem inherent in this as well. Lousy to almost non-existent dialogue. It's just plain creepy that she has crush on Jason. He raised her! The only thing that kept me going was the possibility of a romance between Fury and Tam. I even listened to a song from the playlist. Altho I think her ideas of the future are spot on. Weather manipulation and control. That science has been here since the 40's I believe. Scientists have admitted they have technology that will eventually change life as we know it. "Raining during you outdoor wedding? No problem! We can fix it. ". Hurricanes along the coastline as a means to manipulate people and thus remove a govt. Corp run govt to name a few are here. Too bad I didn't love it.

So this is like a dystopian story after a world shift with a whole bunch of mythology thrown in.

Fury is a minor goddess bound to Hecate. She goes around sending abom's back to their own world. Then it seems that a rogue group has stolen some weather magic and Gaia is close to wiping out the world for good. Fury is tasked with finding the device before that happens. Jason, the guy who raised her and who she has a big crush on, along with Tam, the Bonny Fae who works at Jason's shop, go with her.

This was ok. Had a pretty good story and decent characters. Sometimes it was a little tough to follow with the world tree and all of the different kinds of beings. But it was ok and I will probably pick up the next one.

Meh

No real action, emotion, or connection.
Furry is okay, but she's not fully fleshed out. Her abilities are.... well, they're whatever is needed at the time and she doesn't really use them.
The concept is good, though it's not well thought or at least not well put together.
All of the characters are hollow. Jason doesn't even grieve.
The order of happenings in the telling of Fury's past is odd too.
I'm from the Seattle area and I found it hard to envision this world layout... it's just missing so many elements to bring to life what the author sees. The map didn't really help either.
I didn't hate it or love it. I was able to set it down and walk away from it. Yeah, I'm not going to buy the next one.
