Bible Promises for Parents of Children with Special Needs is a great little book to have on hand for those times when you need comfort in the word of God. The book is broken down into categories so you can look up references to scripture based on how you are feeling. Whether you are frustrated, sad, scared or whatever else you may be feeling—this book has a reference.
I feel like this book is good for your day-to-day life but I do feel that the topics of death and just a few scriptures to help you through those times is a bit over simplified.
On one hand, I truly liked that this book is basically just an index of scriptures for a variety of emotions that a parent of a special needs child may go through. On that topic though, I would have preferred that these scriptures were in King James Version. Perhaps an edition where parents can choose the translation.
If you’re looking for a reference guide to easily find scriptures to deal with your spiritual and emotional needs then this one is great. Otherwise, the book skims over some of the grittier topics.

this book is an amazing tool to help you put your mind back into a healthy perspective and recognize the Hope that lives in you through the Word of God, and that you can redeem this situation, this day, this week, this month. And not just survive, but thrive with refreshment, strength, and new hope for this situation. We all need a little bit of this!
Bible promises is a book that is a topical content book. It gives you topics that come up in ALL parents' lives and then shares a when statement- a wonder you might have connected to that situation. It then shares a scripture reference and a simple connected thought to the reference and the when. Each topic ends with a brief thought or connection about a way to re-frame the thinking of this situation in a positive light. I found the book a delightful asset.
Con/Pro: I wished the references had included the full scripture, but then the book wouldn't be about 5 x 7 in size and small enough to have in your work bag, or your purse, or the door of the car, or next to your bed. It's small, lightweight, beautiful inside and out, and simple to pick up and choose a topic. It's reader friendly. The thinking about situations is generic but specific to the topic and our feelings, so I think if you are thinking about the topic, you will relate to the thinking aloud to connect the scripture, and there are several when... concept statements with each topic. So it's relevant for all parents, but parents who go the extra mile with kids who have special needs that demand a village to help support, with appointments, OT, PT, speech, therapy, medical interventions, hospitalizations, intensive at home practice, at therapy practice, mental health supports, can especially relate.
Another reviewer felt that looking to God is not the same as looking to other people, and she's correct. She could not find this book helpful, but she missed the key audience for this book. Those who care for a special needs child and who see God and His promises as a '"wellspring of refreshment, strength, and hope" and who have or desire to deepen their relationship with him. If your faith and the Word of God is not a guide and source in your life, then this book isn't for you. But for those who seek out the Bible's promises, I found this book therapeutic and helpful for recognizing my circumstances and identifying the emotions in my situations.

Bible Promises for Parents of Children with Special Needs by Amy E. Mason has a lot in common with other Scripture books. You look up a topic and find Bible verses to help you deal with whatever it is that you're dealing with. However, Amy has taken a very traditional concept and given it a couple extra twists.
First, it's geared for parents with special needs kids, meaning that the issues are ones that we commonly face (even if we seldom talk about them). Second, while similar books would have a heading for "goals", Amy branches this topic into three separate issues: 1) When you need perspective on your ultimate goals, 2) When you wonder if your child will meet the goals you're working toward, and 3) When you wonder what kind of goals to set... Each of these issues has a couple of Bible verses to bring you wisdom and comfort, and there's also a summary paragraph at the end of the topic that kind of wraps up all of the issues and helps guide you in the right direction.
Other issues that reveal Amy's careful planning in creating this book are things like "When you wonder if your child will have a relationship with God" (Knowing God), "When your family members keep their distance" (Rejection), and "When you wonder if your child's special needs are somehow your fault" (Diagnosis).
While this book is very handy to look up a specific issue during a moment of weakness or self-doubt, I also found it refreshing to flip through and randomly read questions, revealing issues I hadn't even realized were things that weighed heavy on my heart. I also really appreciate that this book is small enough to fit into a purse and take with me so that I can refer to it throughout my day. 5/5 stars.

I got this book to review as a birthday present for my sister. It's awesome to read. I have a child of my own that has special needs and I thought it would be interesting to read and see what God's promises are for families like ours.
There are so many wonderful things that I have found reading this book that has me wondering and thanking God for letting Amy write this book.
One of my favorite parts is: Fear -When you need courage to face a new obstacle. 2 Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of feat and timidity, but of power, love and self- Discipline.

Loved it! This book is just sooo beautiful and uplifting. I really enjoyed it. I think parents of kids with special needs are really going to find it helpful and refreshing. (I know, I'm like repeating the title but stay with me lol) Cause at the end I think that's what this book does it refreshes you. It gives you hope, and sometimes even tool on how to deal with the daily challenges. I highly recommend this book. If someone like me (a person that has no children, actually not even a dating life) can find it helpful and enjoy it, then I think every parent will do as well.
This book was given to me by Tyndale House Publishing in exchange of an honest review.
Jam packed with verses for all sorts of problems anyone can find useful for accountability relationships, encouragement, and sharpening one another. It also has commentary applicable to special needs scenarios I hope to be able to directly apply. Gonna be a resource I return to often, especially in leading capernaum.
Parents of children with special needs have a unique set of daily challenges. As the mom of a child with special needs I often feel the struggles are mine alone. Bible Promises for parents of children with Special needs was designed to speak to this unique parenting journey and to remind parents they are not alone.
Bible Promises for Children with special needs is an alphabetically arranged book. Some of the categories included in the book are: Attitude, Change, Comfort, Encouragement, Fear, Guilt, Loneliness, Pressure, Rest, Stress, Trials, and Weary. Each topic includes verses that relate to that topic as well as a paragraph that relates those verses to special needs parenting.
I thought this Bible promise book was so helpful and encouraging with both the Scripture verses and Mason's extra helpful words. I found it to be good to read straight through but also a good quick reference when you need help on a certain topic. It also keeps you turning back to God during those times you feel like giving up. Mason is the parent of a special needs child and understands both the rewards and the challenges. This would be a helpful book for anyone who is raising a special needs child or works with them regularly. It is a good reference book to have.
