Be Bold, a Coloring Devotional by Ellen Elliott is a book I was sent a complimentary copy to review for Tyndale Publishers. Here is my critique-

One day when I was feeling overwhelmed, I picked up this book for a morning devotional. To my surprise, I was greatly comforted. The scripture verse was Nehemiah 8:10, which says the joy of the Lord is my strength, which compares choosing our outfit to choosing our moods. Initially, I disagreed with the author because I experience bouts of major clinical depression and become frustrated when people tell me to `snap out it` or `just get happy’. As a Licensed Therapist myself, I find it insulting when people are so closed-minded about mental health. As I was coloring the adjoining coloring page, my mind went into a free-association mode as I became childlike in my actions and thoughts. The facing coloring page allowed me to let go of my worries and stress.

This book is simple yet wonderfully therapeutic, enhancing personal growth. Not only did the devotional coloring book lift the burdens from my shoulders, I look forward to using the book for daily devotionals. Reading a lesson for life, then pondering the message as I color. I become childlike, and now understand more fully why Jesus said we must become like children to enter the Kingdom of heaven. I highly recommend this book for readers who want to surrender their daily worries to focus on God’s Word.

Be Bold A Coloring Devotional by Ellen Elliott is a fun way to spend time in the Word. This book is full of insightful devotions and wonderful coloring pages to go with the theme of the devotion and verses.

I think young and old alike will enjoy spending time with this book. One of my favorite devotions was Practice Gratitude. It reminds to be thankful in all circumstances. The coloring page that accompanies it is upbeat and can be mad colorful and cheerful. There are so many I liked I could just about name them all as my favorite. One aspect I liked was that at the back of the book you had pages to make notes a d doodle if you like.

I think this would be a welcome addition to your library and would be a great gift too.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review from Tyndale Publishers

Be Bold combines a simple devotional with the creativity of an adult coloring book.

Adult coloring books are a great way to relax. Ellen Elliott takes fun coloring pages with a month’s worth of simple devotionals. The devotionals include a scripture passage, a themed reading, and a coordinating coloring page. There are additional lined pages in the back of the book for notes, prayer requests, or journaling.

The heavy pages allow for use of deeper colors. Depending on the type of coloring tools you use, you might experience a little bleed-through. The pages are not removable and are done in a normal 2-page devotional format with the devotion on the left and the coloring page on the right. The coloring designs aren’t overly complicated. They’re perfect for coloring in the evening when you’re sitting down to watch a show or movie with the family.

Right away when I got this book, I couldn’t help but flip through and look at the coloring pages. They were everything I hoped for– Full of patterns with words over the top… end everything just waiting to be colored in.

About the coloring pages: The pages in this book feel pretty decently thick. I was optimistic that markers wouldn’t bleed through. Now, I’m not a coloring book expert so I don’t have fancy markers. My preferred markers are Sharpies or Crayola. Maybe I’m too cheap to buy awesome ones. Anyways, the Sharpies bled through. So I don’t recommend those or anything similar. The Crayolas did not. They were fine. Not even a trace of the color came through the page. So, if you decide to use markers in this book, you might want to test them somewhere in it to check out the bleeding situation.

Now, the devotionals: The devotionals in this book are quite brief. They take 5 minutes or less to read. So if you are looking for something quick, this is it. Each one has a verse that goes along with it. What I wasn’t sure of with this book, was the target age. I think this is a book that all ages would enjoy. Some of the devotionals are bit quirky, but that makes it appealing to so many.

The downsides to this book are few. I wish the pages were thick enough that I could use whatever coloring medium on them I’d like. But with things printed on both sides, it just isn’t meant to be. I also wish that the devotionals were a bit meatier than they are. But that’s more of a preference than anything.

So here is what I really liked about it. I’m a sucker for coloring books with patterns. This fills that need. But I love that as I color, I can focus on a verse or thought. It’s a way to meditate on God’s word and that’s always good. I also enjoy that this could appeal to so many ages. It makes it a wonderful gift idea for someone.

`Be Bold` is a devotional coloring book for adults by Ellen Elliott. The first thing I noticed was the bright and inviting cover page. As adult color books are all the rage these days why not add a devotional with it, right? After all, many Christians are looking for ways to bring more of Christ into their lives.

The text of the book is organized with a prompt, a scripture verse, a devotional for the day, and a page to color. The devotionals take less than 5 minutes to read and you can ponder over it while you color. This organization is sufficient for this little devotional book since the color page focuses on it.

The illustration on the front cover illustrates that as Christians we are to be brave. The primary pictures of the book are black/white illustrations ready to color. I enjoyed this book and hope to see more. Below you will find a picture I have started coloring.

This incorporates scriptures and adult coloring which is a new and different concept for coloring. We all could learn more and have the lord's word in my life as I know I am lacking it and need it. As I read the scriptures and reflect on the meanings and how to incorporate in my daily life is nice. I like the one that tells me to always be joyful as sometimes I find it hard to be.

I got this for free to review in exchange for a review this is my honest opinion which in no way was I swayed to give a positive review.

I remember when I first saw adult coloring books. I kind of laughed at the idea, since I've never outgrown coloring (I've used having children as an excuse to color.;)) and should of thought to start the trend (except wait, I'm not an artist...).
I love that this coloring book is a devotional as well, so you can read the devotional and think on it as you design the coloring page. I love the reminders to be grateful, to wait on God,to be thankful, and to place our trust in the Lord. The coloring pages are intricate and a lot of fun to fill in!
