If Bodyguard, Derick Britt, can make it through Afghanistan, he should be able to handle guarding rock star Heath MacFayden. But when obstinate and out of control Heath makes headlines for being outed in a gay sex scandal, the situation spirals. Fans clash with protesters; a stalker threatens Heath’s life; and the media drags Derick into Heath’s sex scandal. Through the chaos, Derick finds his professionalism compromised as he discovers the vulnerable man Heath is underneath his rock star persona. Derick can handle being front page news, but can he handle his growing feelings for Heath?

Rock stars aren’t supposed to wake up every morning wanting to crawl under a rock, but Heath MacFayden’s world is unraveling. After having his private sex life exposed for the entire world to see, his upcoming U.S. tour is in jeopardy, and he can’t leave his house without being mobbed by reporters. After breaking free from a damaging relationship, Heath finds himself with no one he can trust. Derick Britt is exactly Heath’s type – but the last thing Heath needs is another alpha male telling him what to do, not matter how tempting it may be to lean on someone strong. Heath is determined to guard his heart, but with Derick around that might not be possible.

Unguarded is a full-length, stand-alone novel with NO cliff hanger, but lots of steamy sex, salacious scandals, and sizzling suspense.

Lou Kelly loves a good romance. Having honed her skills as an author through a decade of writing and publishing, she discovered m/m fiction and fell in love. What does she like best? The slow burn.

“No insta-love for me. I adore a well-developed full-length novel with characters who are believable and sympathetic. My favorite relationships are the kind where suppressed desire sizzles with sexual tension struggling for release. Give me a strong Alpha male who has to fight for his mate, or enemies who are shocked when hate turns into love, or a mysterious stranger who doesn’t want his secrets revealed … I crave books that keep me up past my bedtime.”

When she isn’t writing, Lou Kelly loves to travel. Sadly, most of her traveling these days happens between the pages of books, but top on her wish list is a trip to Greece. Followed by New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, and Iceland. *sigh* Someday she hopes to explore them all. Until then, you can find her reading!

Unguarded features:

- two interesting MCs: Heath, a Scottish-American rocker who is a walking sin, and Derick, ex-military and bodyguard (the femme/masc juxtaposition is sexy as fuck)

- plenty of sexual tension (and fulfillment!)

- a great cast of secondary characters—I loved Chloe (Derick's sister and Heath's manager), and Derick's friend/business partner Bart made me laugh despite myself

- age gap (Heath is 23 to Derick's 31)

- hurt/comfort (I would have liked to see a longer, more introspective healing process for Heath; the story veered too close to "magic dick cures all" territory for my liking.)

- epilogue with a great HEA (KILT included!)

I would have given this book 4+ stars if it hadn't been for:

- Heath playing the martyr at the end (that plot device NEVER works for me)

- graphic scene of Heath allowing Miles, his douchewad of an abusive ex-boyfriend, sexually abuse him (and I don't care that Heath didn't say "no"; that WAS abuse) while Derick watches

I understand why this scene turned off so many readers. I HATE that this scene was included. But as I continued with the story, I realized the extent of Miles' manipulation and abuse. Heath didn't even realize how much power and control he had ceded to Miles. That scene was sort of a wake-up call that allowed Heath to move forward.

Granted, Miles should have DONE something. Good lord, don't just STAND there and watch. UGH. I was so frustrated, I considered DNF.

I'm glad I didn't though. This was a quick, intense, and very sexy read. It's my first read by this author, and I don't think it will be the last.

Picked this one up on Kindle Unlimited. I thought it was pretty good. The first half was really good.

Can't say I loved the thing that happened at about 50% but I do feel like it was a turning point so to speak for Heath.

I also didn't love when Heath played the martyr at the end.

Those minor quibbles aside, I enjoyed this one. I loved Bart....Derick's business partner and friend. And Derick's sister Chloe! This one had some nice steam too.

I wouldn't say this one was suspenseful but the plot had a bit of that going on I guess. The romance was more front and center I think.

I'll definitely be checking out more from this author.

This one is a little tough to rate.

Heath is a popular rock star having to deal with a huge sex scandal. His newly appointed manager advises him to get the help of bodyguards to shield him from the press and that’s how he meets the owners of B&B security, Derik and Bart. The pull between Heath and Derik is hard to ignore, even if they have to deal with fans, media, and a manipulative ex-boyfriend.

I really enjoyed the first half of the story : blackmail, bodyguard, abusive relationship, hot moments, great secondary characters. But then, it all went wrong for me at 47% and I had a hard time to get back into it, never fully recovering !!

I really enjoyed this one. The Bodyguard, FBI, police etc guarding someone is one of my favorite romance tropes . I really liked everyone from the beginning. Okay Heath was kind of an a** at the beginning but he had his reasons. I loved it when Derick and Heath started to get to know each other. I thought they had great chemistry and were very hot together. LOL Derick's best friend and business partner Bart cracked me up the whole book, loved him. I also loved Derick's sister Chloe. This is a new author for me so to be honest you never know how it's going to go... I'm happy to say this worked out for me.

I really wanted to like this more than I did, but it was tough to get past the sex shaming that Heath went through. I understand the guy's mostly submissive, but when they wanted him to "apologize for his behavior" when he'd done absolutely nothing wrong, and he knew the apology was bullshit, he still went along with it.

And that scene where Heath's ex shows up at the house and tries to seduce him made me want to throw up. Everyone's behavior in that scene was deplorable.

*** This book is from author, Lou Kelly, who got 2016 Rainbow Award Honorable Mention for "Edge of Control." *** I liked that story, too !
Now we have a headline;
Scottish Rocker Outed in Gay Sex Video!
Heath, 23, with reddish blonde locks, hazel eyes, tribal tattoos, masculine and

muscled is in the midst of a scandal. Things are getting out of hand and he needs protection. His manager's brother is with B & B Security and comes to help.
Derick, tall, dark, and handsome, an alpha male,

runs the business with best friend, Bart. Derick's 31, gay, and is drawn to Heath, so being together will be a challenge.
These two truly burn up the sheets

and it's first time topping for Heath. They give themselves one night and morning of passion and them revert to friendship.

Heath's safety is #1, but when Heath's horrible ex, Miles shows up and roughs him up, Derick fails to protect him. In the aftermath Heath gains insight and wises up, sees what he should have sooner about the evilness of the ex. We see a good side of Heath, where he gets backbone, emerges from his darkness, sings at a birthday, and plans his tour.
Derick and Heath still want each other,

and their sex is explosive. When the ex is fired and turns crazed, lies, escalates, and blackmails, it is Heath in trouble, because Miles made him the target. There's a huge twist and we follow along; see the reasoning of the events. The violence in public is the pinnacle. Heath shows his strength, his heart, and his bravery.

The epilogue is wonderful, with new events, a kilt, and big, passionate emotions. Terrific !
ENJOY !
==========
This story hasn't been for everyone, by the reviews, who didn't like Heath's acquiescence to Miles, but it showed how "controlled" he had been, how much he had submitted. I understood that. I enjoyed the book, very much and loved the characters, deep emotions, and loving men.

Man, this has just not been my week.

With this we have a story I should have liked, by an author who's first book I thought was really good...only, yeah no.

See, everything was progressing pretty well; I was interested in how this rock star got to be so messed up, so damaged and I was totally engaged with the characters. Until Miles showed up and that's when it all went off the rails. I mean, yeah I was upset that Heath had to issue an apology. For his behavior. Of having sex with someone he loved and trusted (at the time)...who released that video to cause trouble. He. Apologized. That really bothered me...but I was willing to let it go hoping to see him come to the conclusion that he had NOTHING to apologize for. Because, character development. Right?

But then, Miles. Ignoring how bad Derick was at his job most of the time and couldn't protect worth a damn, I couldn't believe how Heath just wanted the whole attack & abuse debacle ignored. So, I was upset when he apologized when he shouldn't have and LIVID when he made no statement or stand when he SHOULD have.

And Chloe, his manager, should have been able to spin that to make him see that he could stand up for himself and show the world a brave face, one to be admired for taking a stand. Been a role model for those who need to see that even the Charmed Ones can be duped, used and hurt by someone who professes to love them. But yeah, no. That didn't happen because he was ashamed. I'm a little tired of those around him not trying harder to make him see he had nothing to be ashamed of. So, yet another person who's shit at their job.

Plus, that whole ending. I mean, I love Bart. LOVE HIM (despite the name: Bart Bartholomew? His parents must have hated him) but these guys are supposed to be professionals; they talked about Heath being under duress and probably not a willing participant...and then RUSH IN to the press conference, putting EVERYONE in danger. Kinda like a SWAT team barreling into a bank heist where there are hostages - but whatever, We gonna DO THIS! *rawr* So, let's hear it for all the people who don't do their jobs even marginally right in this book. *slow clap*

Finally, I just can't with Derick. He knows he shouldn't be a personal bodyguard for Heath, and yet that's exactly what he's gonna be while the guy is on tour. (With his band. That band of people who supposedly have his back during the scandal and yet never show up in the story at all. Yeah, those guys. Friendship #You'reDoingItWrong.) He's so wishy washy and flip floppy and half the time I wanted to strangle him. Mostly though? His adamant denial of being a bottom, of not bottoming, of it not being his thing, of him being not that kind of guy...only to bottom the first time he and Heath have sex. JFC. I give up.

(Not that there's anything wrong with bottoming! I just felt like it was unnecessary dialogue/wordage and contributed nothing to the story except to make me irritated at him for that opinion to start off with; like he was pre-judging Heath without any of the information needed to understand the context of the video.)

SO glad I only KU-ed this because I was just about to buy it! DNF @ 46%!!! I am pissed off! What the hell just happened?!!? I went from liking this book and really looking forward to finding out what happens next to absolutely DETESTING this book (not for any other reason other than Heath pissing me off BIG time)!! I am so angry ... Heath (with Miles's help) goes beyond the point where I am capable of feeling any sympathy for him and careens right into the land of no return where I feel nothing but disdain and disbelief. I wanted to smack the crap out of Heath. Miles is a douchebag, we know this. But Heath ... jelly-spined Heath, I'm disappointed -- NOT because of his need for help of course, I can't and will not judge him for that, but because of a specific scene sequence here that leaves me incapable of trusting or even liking Heath now. There went an MC with lots of potential. Crash and burn. Just NO!!!
I am rating this minus stars because it pissed me off THAT badly!!

// End rant.

First update: Annnnnnnnnnnnd this is where everything in this book went to shit. WHY did that have to happen? WHY?!!? It was going so well :-/!! Blech ... this leaves me with no desire to know what happens next. I mean, come on, Heath, grow a backbone! Miles, fucking GET LOST!! And Derick? Well, I have nothing to say to you because you've done nothing wrong. Just Aaaaagh!!!!! Book, redeem yourself. PLEASE!!!
- Edit: Actually, let me correct that, Derick DID do something ... NOTHING at all!! By doing nothing, absolutely NOTHING, except stand there and watch the sexually abusive scene between Heath and Miles unfold, is not only horrible to the nth degree, it's incredibly alarming!! Nope. Derick's no better than Heath or Miles.

Second update (2 seconds later): Okay. No. Just no. I'm done. I have absolutely NO desire to know what happens next after THAT just happened and after Heath did and said what he just did and said (to Miles) with Derick standing RIGHT THERE!! No interest AT ALL!! No, no, no!!! Want to know how to take a reader from REALLY digging a book to wanting to rip said book apart and heave it across the room? Read this. You'll find out quickly enough :-/."

Reading this now and am REALLY enjoying it so far :-)!! Though I'm still only at 40% I can tell you I most definitely recommend giving this one a read *nods*! I'll be updating my percentage progress as I, errrr, progress ;-).
Note - The first sex scene leaves A LOT to be desired ... the 2nd does too ... we're there and it's on page but it's very vague and hurried. I want to "SEE" dammit. Yes, I'm an M/M book perv and proud OF it :-D!! I hope we get at least one great one ... please, Lou! The story makes up for it though, so I'll deal *pouts and smiles*.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Heath is not your typical fictional rock star. While he’s at the top of his career, his former manager turned lover turned ex completely controlled everything. In some ways, Heath liked being taken care of, but Miles manipulated him and emotionally controlled him and Heath was so drawn in he didn’t realize how much control he had given up. Heath is a combination of wild and vulnerable, and when Derick meets him he finds that combination impossible to resist.

When the scandal breaks, Heath has broken up with Miles and fired him, yet he still thinks Miles will step up and clean up the mess. Heath is humiliated as the press dissects video footage and cameras are everywhere. Immediately, Derick’s presence calms him and the attraction is real, but there are several issues. First is that Heath will be Derick’s client and also Heath needs time to heal and while he wants Derick, he also tries to keep him in the friend zone. Derick gets so caught up in Heath that it does affect how he responds while on the job. When Miles shows up, Derick can’t separate his feelings and maybe he should have intervened, but Heath has been a victim for years and it was hard for him to break free from that.

✮ (¸.•´✶ (¸.•The A/C and the fan were no help with this sizzling book. And man that cover...HAWT!

Scottish Rocker Heath MacFayden Outed in Gay Sex Video!

And my night came to a screeching halt and I settled in for a fantastic ride of flaming hot, passionate love with a sprinkle of suspense and all the madness that was coming my way. There was no way out of it. I am a dripping mess when bodyguards are involved (and Military to boot). Throw in a singer and well, tie me up in knots cus I am not going anyway.

This was a well written story that encompassed Derick Brit and Heath MacFayden and the measures one goes through to find a sliver of happiness while being wrung through the wash cycle.

Derick was the type of man who would do anything for his big sister, and when Heath's manager Chloe called, he went to her rescue. What he never expected was to find a hurting rocker, who he had all intentions of hating, with his life in chaos and unwilling to help correct it.

Heath had lived the last few years of his life in fear. Cowardly, he left his abuser, but could not escape him. Then on top of his upcoming tour, he had a scandal that was threatening his very livelihood, the threat of more disaster to come and being faced with a man so right for him that he was so wrong.

Together with his best friend and business partner Bart, Derick must protect Heath at all cost while stepping over the line from client into something more. A truly inspiring story of courage and fighting the things that have become a nightmare while escaping to the other side.

People may have called Heath weak for what occurred, but he was a young man trying to find his way in the world and just ended up with a psychotic monster. Derick was the perfect alpha and their connection was beautiful. I loved the way Derick defended Heath and in the end, there really was no way either one's heart could be left unguarded.

I don't even have to tell you to one click, cus hey, I see you there already. I will say, enjoy the spice, the mystery and the love of it all.

Heath is a young rock star who had a drug addicted father, an alcoholic mother. His childhood, took a toll on Heath. He was very vulnerable and was easy prey for someone like his former manager Miles. Miles used intimidation - both physically and verbally - to control Heath. Once Heath found out that Miles was cheating, he found the courage to leave him and drop him as a manager.

When a sex tape starring your biggest rock star client hits the Web, reporters, fans, and hate groups surround his home. What do you do? If you are Chloe, you call your brother Derick and hire his security company.

Derick is a former Marine, a bodyguard, and all around good guy. He isn't into one night stands, clubs or parties. He likes things quiet and simple. Upon meeting Heath, he is pleasantly surprised and majorly attracted. Heath is nothing like his stage persona. The young rocker star is shy and really lacks self confidence.

On the night before the official contract hiring Derick's firm is signed, he and Heath have sex. It is hot, sweet and they both want more but agree to keep it professional. Things get interesting when Miles shows up again. You will have read it to find out how it all unfolds, but heck this is a romance. Derick and Heath do get their HEA.

I think this is my first Lou Kelly book, and I will try some of her other work. It was fast paced and a quick read. At times you want to yell at Heath to defend himself. After learning a little of his childhood, you begin to see how easy it was for Miles to manipulate him and take control of his life. Heath just wanted some to see him, love him, and be there for him.

Extra points for Ms. Kelly. Heath had a traumatic past with his parents, dealing with being a superstar and with his relationship with Miles. Heath began seeing a therapist. I liked that the writer acknowledged the importance of professional help.

There were many little moments in this story that make the overall story. And as some have pointed out, there are many times you might want to scream at the characters. But sometimes that combination is what makes a book worth reading. It's so interesting to see what people come up with, especially when it is something so far from what I would personally do in a similar situation.

For those liking rocker and/or bodyguard stories, there isn't much of either on page. It's hinted at around the edges, but mainly the story revolves around two men who walk on egg shells around each other. The back and forth can be seen as annoying. It wasn't to me. I found their fumbling attempts to be quite endearing because it seemed like they were really trying to do the "right thing" as far as developing their relationship while respecting personal and professional boundaries. Of course, the "right thing" is the last thing the other person wants. I was entertained.

I don't fault Heath for his actions. Between the emotional and physical abuse from his ex and his need to protect Derick, again, he thought he was doing the "right thing". The reason for the average rating stems from my preference for more of the mystery element. We knew from the beginning who the "bad guy" was. That was not a problem.

I wanted more page time dedicated to the reason Heath needed a bodyguard, be it investigation or more exposure or something to show that Derick and his team was on the ball. I know that a lot of a security company's job in real life is boring: surveillance, setting up alarms, paperwork. I know that most jobs don't include a lot of excitement. But in book form, I wanted the body guards to do more obvious guarding.

Though that is likely not to be a problem for readers looking for more romance than mystery.

Could not stand Heath. There was something definitely wrong with the guy besides being a victim of abuse.

Lost respect for Derrick and his sister because they were so incompetent. Both Derrick and his sister did not investigate who leaked the video, they just passively believed Heath's story. Derrick did not do background checks on Heath, including his cell phone, and the people surrounding him. Derrick allowed Miles to get into the house - guards at the gate, no alarm. He then watched as Miles physically and emotionally harmed Heath and did nothing to stop the assault. The sister should have had the video pulled off the internet asap.

The ending was fluffy stupid.

Where was Heath's band in this story? Why didn't he have any history or friendships with his band members?

I mostly liked this book. I was well into 40% when I realized I haven't made one break while reading, and I love when that happens. I liked the writing, and I mostly liked the characters.
It was obvious Heath was so emotionally abused he couldn't see himself as anything other than unworthy, unlovable, stupid, weak. And still I struggled not to see him as TSTL sometimes, especially with that stunt he pulled at the end. Derik was okay but kind of bland.
The characters I loved best and that made the greatest impression on me were Chloe and Bart. I would love to see more of them!

Chemistry abounds...

Good writing and enough character development to really get in to the characters. The humor was just enough and placed well. I enjoyed the suspense part, although the romance was the main feature and boy did they have good chemistry. Heath had me frustrated many times but hello...that was the point with part of the story and his character, I just had to get over it not being about my feelings. ;)

This was a nice read. It doesn’t bring new elements to the bodyguard trope, but it was still very enjoyable because it has nicely developed characters, and it was well written.

Miles was a terrible character and I must admit I find he manipulated Heath too easily. The final confrontation was a bit overdone, but the ending was very sweet.

All in all, I enjoyed this one.

I really enjoyed this one. Heath MacFaden who is a bratty rock star who's evil unhinged ex leaks a sex tape. Heath knew who did it but not his PR rep Chloe. It would have been okay if it was a sex tape with a woman but nope it is with a man. Chloe asks her brother, Derrick former military and current security expert to keep an eye on Heath. There are many twist and turns and plenty of steamy moments. I will say Heath turns out not as bratty and hot for Derrick as Derrick is for Heath.
So much fun and I will be reading more from this author.

Title: Unguarded
Author: Lou Kelly
Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance

Main Characters :

Health MacFayden is an international rock sensation. Having hit the big time just a few years prior, he is still relatively new to the fame game, but a bad experience with his former manager has him questioning everything, and his isolation and paparazzi are starting to wear him down.

Derick Britt is a former marine turned bodyguard. His life is relatively boring, he throws his time and effort into his security company and his few friendships. He hasn’t had a date in forever and his sister and his best friend are starting to bug him about that.

Plot/Conflict:

Heath MacFayden suddenly finds himself in an awful position - outed to the public as gay by way of a leaked sex tape. His life immediately blows up - his house is being staked out by the press, his fans are outraged, and his new manager is trying desperately to keep everything on an even keel - even bringing in her brother Derick to work as a bodyguard and manage Heath’s security until things die down.

Under Heath’s mortification over having a sex tape leaked is his hurt and confusion over the obvious manipulation and betrayal by the other man in the tape . Despite all of this, his first meeting with Derick causes all of it to fade into the background. Around Derick he feels safe…. And aroused. But the two need to work around their conflict of interests, as well as misunderstandings and hurt feelings, jealous exes, and Heath’s fame.

Loves:

I developed a soft spot for Heath, which is surprising because he can come off whiny at times. But in reality, I saw a scared young guy who got taken advantage of in the early stages of his career, and was having a hard time trusting again.

I also loved the secondary cast of characters - Chloe and Bart. They had great humor and support for both Health and Derrick.

Likes:

So I liked that this was a little different from the average celebrity based romance. Heath has issues, mainly that his ex was controlling and verbally abusive, as well as manipulative. He eventually breaks up with him, but is still having issues dealing with letting go, despite the negative treatment during the relationship. Half the time he is convinced it was what he deserved. Once Derick starts coming around, and they decide to just be friends, I liked that they got to know each other and this kind of

Peeves:

There was one scene… a lot of review mentioned it. I was disappointed and turned off, but it wasn’t enough to keep me from continuing on. I was even more upset by Derick’s reaction afterwards, which was to bail for a few weeks to give Heath space.

I was disappointed in the lack of development/background on Derick.

Frustrating but so friggin good that’s what comes to mind when I think back on this story while I plot out the review. I like this author a lot and I’ve only read one book by her, so far. This author really, really knows how to write a bad guy. My reaction to the bad guy in this story was visceral. I wanted to throw my ipad so hard and so far across the room because I hated him so much. I think any author who can pull that kind of emotion out of a reader deserves kudos.

Heath MacFayden’s world is torn apart when a sex tape is released which rips him right out of the closet. At the height of his music career Heath is on a downward spiral after the huge invasion of privacy. His new manager has assigned him a bodyguard she trusts, her brother Derrick.

Derrick Britt wants nothing to do with the “spoiled” rock star but he loves his sister and will help her out no matter what. He’s unprepared for the feelings Heath ignites in him. He doesn’t want to be attracted to him and he absolutely cannot get involved with a client but emotions run high when Heath turns out to be a victim of long standing emotional abuse.

As the plot thickens we’re introduced to the WORST character, ever. I can’t remember a time I hated a character more. My frustration in this story lies solely with how this bad guy was able to manipulate Heath so easily, over and over again. It pissed me off so much but I still couldn’t put the book down.

Derrick is amazing throughout the drama packed story. He gives Heath a solid, stable foundation and proves to be the source of incredible strength.

There’s quite a bit of machinations and mystery going on in this story. It was very good and very well written.

Absolutely recommend.

I'm editing this because, well, I didn't write my 1st review well at all.

This started out so well. Derick is a former Marine, running a security agency with his military friend Bart. Chloe, Derick's sister is the new manager for a surly rock star, Heath. Yeah, the bodyguard/rockstar trope is a bit overused but it was done a little differently. My favorite character was actually Bart, an overgrown juvenile when it comes to humor, but he was very funny. Derick is serious and focused and protective of his sister, who really doesn't need it and can really hold her own. The release of a sex tape and Heath being outed has become a media nightmare and Derick agrees to be Heath's bodyguard but Heath rejects help.

Edit
Theres a scene here that I felt was unneeded, with Derick and the video. Hot but kind of icky. After a break-in, Heath ends up at Derick's and, well... After that, Derick becomes Heath's bodyguard. There's an episode then, that almost ruined the book for me right there. It comes between Heath and Derick, so Bart and Chloe take over with Heath. After some time, Derick and Heath downshift back into the friend zone. There's some good UST and a lot of friend time and no instalove. It's all good, with some decent character and world building and some warm and fuzzy time. Then Heath does something that just seems far too stupid for me to even take seriously.

The last part of the book went a little too far OTT, making it difficult for me to maintain my suspension of disbelief. Other people didn't have this problem, but I just couldn't shake the feeling of "how dumb can you be?". The action and derring-do was exciting and it all culminated in a lovely epilogue. I just felt that plot point could have been set up so much differently and better and not have taken me out of the story.

What a delightful and heartwarming book, I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Derick Britt, a lonely gay man who does not have time for relationships, his friend Bart who is a good friend and together they own and run B&B Security for 8yrs. Derick's sister Chloe is an entertainment manager and has a problem with a sex tape featuring Heath MacFaden who is a surly, unapproachable singer. The obvious baddie in the story is Miles. What you will find in this story is drama, suspense, humor, a argumentative uncooperative young man, encouraging sister to go on date with Bart, watching sex tape, a phone-call, brick through window, fetching Health, police, man in cupboard with knife, sleeping on couch, phone-calls, going home, apologizing to public, proposal from ex-boyfriend, hit by ex-boyfriend, being friends, singing at 16yr old twins birthday party, text messages, blackmail, resigning from everything, meeting at seedy hotel, abducted and tied up, car accident, engagement announcement, a fiasco, Miles snapping, shooting, taking bullets meant for Chloe, hospital, a marriage, a proposal, there is sexual tensions/desires and hot erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and written. The characters are well developed, believable, sympathetic and have needs with desire. I can without hesitation recommend this book to people that like to read a well written romance with a HEA, you will not be disappointed.

This was a formulaic bodyguard/rock star story and there really wasn't anything that made it stand out, but I happen to love that trope so I loved this. I liked the characters even if they're pretty standard. I loved Bart who was the one fairly original person which is funny because he would annoy the crap out of me in real life. He was the comic relief and he worked well.

There was really hot sexual tension. Really hot sex. Lots of what wonderful angst and melodrama, omg moments and a hospital scene! Excellent.

There were things that made me mad but were good because they were realistic such as the fact that the emails sounded exactly like the texts I've read that were sent to someone by an abusive ex, the hot and cold, pleading then blaming then threatening then degrading then professing love and then all over again.

Then there was Heath's press conference. What did Heath have to apologize for? What did he do wrong? He made a sex tape with his boyfriend not sacrificed goats for devil worship. I hate that he did that even though it was believable.

But it was cute and no one was really TSTL.

Very sweet

4 stars for quality, five stars for enjoyment, so 4.5 stars rounded up

Derick and Heath are combustible…
I loved the chemistry between Derick and Heath so much, they were as irresistible to me as they were to each other. As the attraction between them escalated, and they struggled to make the decisions they thought were in each other’s best interests, I was completely absorbed by the building tension.
I’ve always loved to hate a truly despicable character, which Miles is, without question, but in this case, Heath’s vulnerability to him was incredibly frustrating for me to read. I was so torn between wanting to wrap him up in a hug with a reassuring speech about how he is so much more than he gives himself credit for being and wanting to shake him, hard, for not seeing the truth about either Miles or himself.
In my ideal vision of the universe, this book actually becomes the first of a series, so I can get another fix of Derek’s partner, Bart. For so many reasons. Most of them come back to how quick witted he is though, I couldn’t get enough of the comradery between these two friends.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I'm obsessed with bodyguards and rockstars so I jumped into this, fully expecting a good time... and I was not disappointed.

After a sex tape, where he's the main star, is released for the whole world to see, rockstar Heath thinks he's not capable of handling his own life without the help of his ex-boyfriend and ex-manager, Miles. As a result, Heath's manager hires her brother Derick, ex-military turned into bodyguard, and his best friend Bart to protect him.

Things start heating up from the the moment Heath and Derick meet and they can't deny their attraction. However, they have to face Miles' harassing behaviour and the constant pressure this put on Heath.

I felt sorry for the things Heath had to go through and I wanted to kick Derick when he thought that giving him some space was a good idea. Ohh, and how I hated Miles with a passion (!), I was happy how things ended for him.

The story builds the action and conflict at a steady pace, the characters were well developed and the ending was wonderful.

This was my first book by Lou and I can't wait for her nex one!
