Nyree was thriving as the best female Sentry assigned to the Skin Walker teams. Placed on special assignment, she was flattered to have been chosen to train the Keepers who’d just arrived at the Estate. Keepers were different from the Walkers she’d been trained with. Highly aggressive toward females, she found out too late that Keeper aggression was sexual and not a disdain for the female species. Paired with a Keeper, Rohmulus, who clearly despises her, Nyree is shocked that when the Estate comes under attack, Rohm opts to protect her above all others, including himself. Rohm, like all Keepers has been warned by the Ruling Keeper, Fatal, to keep his hands off the human female assigned to train them. When she is paired with him though, the hunger that he’d been holding at a slow simmer boils over. Taken captive, their captors abuse Nyree to get action from Rohm, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep Nyree from harm even if it means gifting her a part of his very soul.

My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.

I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)

Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit!  (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

Nyree and Rohm. Been a while since I read this series and the sequence of the series has changed a fair bit in the mean time. But when have I ever read anything in sequence ; )
Nyree is a human woman who is a sentry for the Walker compound. She is charged with training the new 'Keepers' in weapons and warfare. I liked that she was badass, but thought she often fell out of character, needing to be rescued. Rohm is one of the Keepers who are like walkers but 'not' and supposedly more OTT dominant men, although I felt the author fell short with this concept. Another instance of 'it is so because the author says it is so'. Nyree and Rohm are captured by the bad guys and tortured and it's all OTT. There's a lot of misunderstandings that made my eyes roll. Basically I thought I would like this more than I did and it seemed overly similar to Leto's story. I don't find the new addition of 'Keepers' lends anything to the stories. Like my husband says, "character development doesn't mean adding more characters!"
Still I enjoyed it for the most part and will still read more but not in sequence ; )

I keep reading this series because I enjoyed the previous books but this one was just meh. Felt it was too rushed, too short and too much time with them not together and then BAM! She finally gives in, they jump in bed and BOOM, book is over.

Except for the strange AF Epilogue with the heroine from the previous book...who has already had her book and already been claimed and given a halo in her book yet in the Epilogue she's "claimed" again without her agreement and carried off because she was "in trouble." WTF? What about HER HERO FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOK? I don't even know how the author is going to fix this strange AF thing she did. Is the next book going to be a menage? With a couple that's already had their book?

How about the author do me a huge huge solid and write the books for Bishop and Mason and their ladies since those are "considered" Books 3 and 4 and she never wrote them and this one was Book 11? I'd appreciate those two books more than reading again about Remy and Harlow and the second claiming that went on.

Color me not impressed at all with this story and this epilogue.

“What about anal?” Sigh. From the minute Nyree was chosen to help civilize the Keepers, wilder pseudo-cousins of the Skin Walkers, things have been interesting in the Chinese “May you live in interesting times” sort of way. Assigned to teach them subjects ranging from the Skin Walkers, humans, food, and weapons so that they can begin fitting into their new lives at StoneCrow Manor, things haven’t gone all that well for Nyree. Of course, she has a difficult group to work with. Keepers are pretty much on a level with wild animals, especially when it comes to women and their “place” – i.e., in the Keepers bed, will she or nil she.

It wasn’t until the inquiries turned to the great mystery of American females that things flew out of control. There has to be one in every class – the guy who has to push all the buttons, as well as pushing the teacher to do something she really wouldn’t have done if she had taken a moment to think about it. Yep. That was embarrassing. To top it off? Her big mouth got her assigned a bodyguard. You guessed it. Rohmulus. The very asker of the infamous question.
That’s hard enough. What’s harder is the fact that Nyree and Rohmulus have been captured by the Megalya during the attack on StoneCrow by human mercenaries. Caged in a hidden Megalya facility, Nyree is being tortured, while Rohmulus is being forced to fight a Skin Walker, also captured during the raid on StoneCrow.

Susan writes such realistic, strong women characters you can’t help but like. Tough, yet still feminine, Nyree has worked hard to gain her place as one of the only humans, and females, working as Skin Walker Sentries, and succeeding as the Keeper trainer should have raised her standing among the Sentries. But now? There is a very strong question of whether she, or Rhom, will survive their imprisonment. And if they do, what they will find when they return to StoneCrow. Will the home of the Skin Walkers be totally destroyed?

As always, the pace is fast, the action believable, and the story entrancing. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, what are you waiting for? Lovers of Urban Fantasy are sure to enjoy Taken. If you haven’t picked up the other books in the series, you should, starting with book 1, King. Enjoy!
I work with Susan on her books. All thoughts are my own.

Light up my life

This book is such a fantastic new journey for the Skin Walkers series. I love that we got to see Nyree find her place and her person. The characters in this series just manage to cross over each book perfectly making me more and more invested in them and the search for their HEAs. The action in this book was moving from the first page and even once we reached the epilogue the author set us up just right for the next book in the series. I hope we get to see more of the Keepers and when they find their lights. But no matter what the author comes up with next I’m sure to love it.

I give up!

I just can't. The stories aren't completely awful; however, with each new story I find the female characters more and more annoying to the point that I started skimming through the pages and after reading this story I have finally waved the white flag in surrender. These women are ridiculous. One women demands to be a soldier but then disobeyed and talks back at her commander. Then she makes demands on how things are going to go. Then she demands to be on the team of elites but can't even fight. Ugh!!!!! Then no matter how well the male treats the female it's always the same thing.....even if the male says he wants to be with them, they are always.. "I don't know how he feels". The author wants/tried to portray the female characters as strong women but they are actually obnoxious women who continually put themselves in danger and can't fight their way out of a paper bag. I just give up. And the megalya, the sworn enemy of the walkers are only an afterthought. The entire book is mainly about the relationship between the two characters.

This was such a great book... the action, all the feelings, the pain... Susan does an amazing job writing these books that the reader feels what the characters are going through. The reader is hung up in the suspense and cant wait to see what happens next. I can not get enough of this amazing series and cant wait to start the next book...

Nyree was volunteered to teach the Keepers ( Soul Sentry) more about woman and how to act in the human world, but Rohm sure does test her patients... not feeling luckey at all she even gets partnered up with Rohm when he is the last man she would ever pick.
Both Rohm and Nyree were captured when Stonecrow was under attack by the Megalya. Both caged together, they could no longer fight the attraction.. Rohm could not stand Nyree being hurt any longer, they will escaped these monsters.

Loved reading Nyree and Rohm's story. Great to see the way the Keeper's and their Light's connect. Lots of action, romance and horrifying torture, but glad to see one of the biggest monsters of the series get ended. Well written, with fully rounded characters.
One issue that has me confused was within the Epilogue and is about Remy and Harlow. Not sure why Harlow is trying to hide her halo. Recker and others acknowledged Remy finding his Angel in their book, no one noticed Remy's missing halo? And Monroe wasn't aware? Kinda doubtful. Was that why he sent another to take Harlow? This and the fact that I am not a fan of cliff hangers, especially when they stretch through 3 books. Which is why only 3 stars. Love the world, but not the dragging it out thing.
Well worth your time and $$

Nyree is a human woman who is a sentry for the Walker compound. She is charged with training the new 'Keepers' in weapons and warfare. Also we finally get to see a bit more of the "keepers in general" I liked that she was badass & strong as he'll sentry, sticking to the hole I will shine and no species/walker/man can stop that, Rohm is one of the Keepers who are like walkers and supposedly more dominant but he is stoped by his dominant to feel or have something with Nurse and this the missunderstandings starts and the atraccion yet we can't shenanigans take place, good book still hooked on these series

Great series

I love these stories. Hot alpha males and strong females. This series shows a different light on shifter stories. With the males being able to change into different animals and having a halo to give to their mate. The only problem I have with the series is the way the books have been released. I would love to be able to have the third and fourth books but right now I
can't wait for Angel Lost. I need to know what is going on with Remy and Harlowe. And what about the traitor. Please don't keep us in suspense to long. If you like this series, your gonna love this story.

Great storyline and characters

Nyree is a very tough human female sentry working for the skin walkers. She is on loan to train a newly found related species called Keepers. Nyree has to work hard to keep the Keepers in their place, namely out of her pants, as she trains them to be sentries. One of the Keepers, Rohm, is particularly problematic. It gets worse when they are both captured by an evil, evil scientist. This was a great story, fast paced, with lots of action, and lots of heat.

Excellent

I love Rhomulus. I like Nyree. Their relationship is still a bit confusing. Rhomulus never explained what thought is. Anyway. I thought he would just make his wants known sooner. I really love this series but sometimes it seems that the books are not in order. I'm still not sure when Bishop claimed Jenny. What happened to her nurse. Did she take care of family business? Who is that woman traitor? What was the shadow walker?

To short

Something was missing...it felt like I only read half a book. It seems to rushed and not enough time for a truly good story, and that's a shame because it had potential for a good story

Loved it!

So the first of the Keepers finally get a mate, his Light, as they're called. So so romantic to be called someone's Light.
I enjoyed it. The Keepers are just like the Walkers. Alpha males. It's hot to read.
Can't wait for the next book. Yay!
