As the students at her school become increasingly caught up in the annual game of "Elimination," Zoe grows more and more convinced that the new girl in her eighth grade class is not what she seems
More horror than SF, but only horrifying in concept... I didn't really feel anything for the kids, but just knew that I should, if that makes sense.
It seemed like a metaphor for something, tbh. As if the alien girl represented adulthood, and the way she 'infected' the other kids was by instigating puberty in them or something. But not really, either.
I think that it was spoiled by the fact that the title and blurb gave too much away.
I liked this story a lot, though I didn't quite give it 5 stars. It was close though. As I was reading it I found myself thinking it would end this way or that way. But this was one of those rare books, that I did not guess the ending. It was quite a surprise for me and made the whole story much better in retrospect.
I would like to know more about Catherine Dexter. In my review of her book Mazemaker, I stated that I believe Catherine Dexter is actually a pen-name. I haven't verified that yet nor determined what her real name is. I like her writing and if she has written other works under another name or her real name, I would like to see them.
Anyone know of a pen-name to author cross reference site?
