A woman with no choice…
For Tatiana Ashurst, there’s no escaping destiny. Magically powerful and preordained to give birth to the most powerful Vallen priestess in seven generations, it’s her duty to marry well. But she wants the same thing her twin sister has—the right to choose her own husband. For a woman like Tatiana, however, such a thing can never be permitted.

A man who must choose…
Kit Vallentyn would rather devote himself to overseeing the family estate. But his father insists it’s time for an advantageous marriage—one centered on power and wealth. Reluctantly scouting the new crop of debutantes, he finds himself unaccountably attracted to a mysterious woman who is plain, penniless, ineligible… and utterly enchanting.

A storm of desire…
When Tatiana nearly uses her powers in public, Kit saves her from shocking the Georgian English society and revealing her abilities. Despite Kit's own magic strength, Tatiana is certain their marriage would never be possible. She just can’t help being drawn to this handsome man who extends a spell of desire over her more powerful than any she can conjure. The only way to survive the storm looming on the horizon will be to have the courage to shed their secrets and discover their true destinies together.

*ACR copy for an honest review ! *

WOW ! ive got to say ! im pleasantly surprised ! i actually lved Meredith Bond's easy writing and fabulous idea of mixing two completely different grenes into one...'THE HISTORICAL and THE PARANORMAL'

"Where are you going Trina ? Shouldnt be getting ready for the ball ?"

"I'm going downstairs..Or out.Yes,out.I'll be back"

Trina was too far away for Tataina to stop her flight. Tatiana hesitated, and then held out her hand, using her magic to put an invisible wall between Trina and her escape route.

"No...you are not going anyway "

Being an ancient Vallen and the oldest of the two twins-She's got a secret to keep, a secret Lord Vallen might have guessed something of...

I lved Tataina and Kit as the main characters...with the're lively batter... and her the magic , the book kept moving at a wonderful phace..to its very end. *shrug* But then again, thats just my opinion.

RECOMMENDATION :Since this book is mostly around 60 pages or so...i would probably recommend it to people searching for a light and depth-less romance read while moving between the phase of HR and paranormal.

A paranormal Regency romance? Neat… but…
Tatiana took a deep breath. She was the direct descendent of Morgan le Fey, she reminded herself. She had the strength and the power to do anything she set her mind to— including marrying a man of her parents choosing. (Kindle Locations 111-112).

You know, I kind of doubt that Morgan le Fey would swap looks and figure with her gawkish sister, but hey… [and they misspelt descendant]
But then she has a fit because all the men surround her now beautiful sister Trina and ignore her. She holds her hand up ready to blue spark them and the hero stops her.
I don’t like her already.
Wait… if they’re twins why aren’t they coming out in the same season?
As he had the night before, he grabbed her hand before she could let lose any magic. (Kindle Locations 527-528).

Readers have been told repetitively, that it is the greatest sin to use magic on the unsuspecting, that their very existence must be hidden and secret and this is the SECOND time she’s tried to zap the men around her twin and Kit stops her.
Now I REALLY don’t like her. And it should be ‘loose’ nor ‘lose’.
Bugger, I’m editing.
Then she does it a third time. *rolls eyes*
Their grandmother says:
"And the only way you'll find someone like that is to make yourself attractive to as many men as possible. You don't want someone to avoid you because he thinks that you might not have funds." She turned towards Tatiana. "Which is why I am letting it be known far and wide that she does. I want to expand her choices, not limit them to those who are attracted by her pretty face."

No. That doesn’t make sense at all. Now you’ve doubled the number of useless suitors to ones who only care about your money as well as ones who only care about your looks. If her parents are so careful to choose Tatiana’s husband why have they left Trina to the wolves, as it were?
Nor does it make sense that if Kit Vallentyn is magical and from an influential family that he wouldn’t be the perfect suitor for the magically gifted daughter, Tatiana. But then Kit’s father threatens to disinherit him if he woos her. What?
Nor, how the poor sod who proposes to Trina is going to feel when he finds out she isn’t pretty or magical.
IT MAKES NO SENSE.
I’d dnf it but I’m at 72%

***
Regency magic can be well executed - look at Jonathan Strange but this isn’t it, I’m afraid. This is both very repetitive and very vague on the magic system; and it shouldn’t be for a novella. It’s the second of this author’s novels I’ve read and I didn’t like either of them.
I think she’s made mistakes on the peerage names, too. If his father is a Viscount then his grandfather must be an Earl and Kit is an Honourable - not a Mister. Snorts. Now I’m confused.

DNF. The concept of magic and historical romance together was intriguing, but I did not like the writing style. The characters were flat and the dialogue silly. This was a free novella through Amazon.

This light paranormal romance was fairly short, and the main part of the story zipped through the romance for that reason. It zipped through the magic as well, making it vague and somewhat confusing. I expect that readers of true paranormal stories would have more to criticize than me, a newbie to this type of book, but I found the descriptions and use of magic disappointing. However, the writing was good and the associated plot drew the reader in and forward throughout, so that made up for it. The protagonists were lively and engaging, as were minor characters, and the scenes well envisioned. The only time I was disappointed that the reader was drawn forward in the fast-paced novel was on the last page, when I turned the page expecting the rest of the story, and got:

Book stuffing! The book ended abruptly and there was instead advertising at 87%, something I abhor. Loss of a star for a poor ending and a ripoff of the book's promise.

Editing was okay, though there were a number of modern expressions used in the story. Havelock became Haveland and there was a "you're" for "your." Minus half a star.

I got to read the 4th book in this series as an advanced read and I was hooked. I had to go back then and read the series. Magic and romance come together in this great series. I've now read them all and loved each one. These stories are about the Vallen. They have magic powers that are connected to the elements like fire, water, air. These powers are to be used for good. With power comes responsibility. Misuse of powers brings consequences. Get this book and start reading. Number 4 Through The Storm will be available on 5/31/17.

Magical

I usually don't read anything paranormal, I have found them quite silly in the past. Storm In The Horizon is unlike any O have read. Such sacrifice for her twin, Tatiana fights conflict within herself, her family and finally with Valentyne's father. A magical romance that all should read. The only criticism is that it ended much too soon. I look forward to reading other books by Meredith Bond

Enjoyable

It truly held my attention while reading it. One of the good romances I've read here lately. Just wish it held more for the main characters.

Charming read

Well written, quaint book on Regency Supernatural regarding the courtship of twin sisters a bit Shakespearean as hidden identities, fast read

This was a light read, it only took a few hours. The story had a good base but was lacking in detail and substance. I felt like I was scrambling to learn about the characters because it was not explained. Maybe it is just me, because I enjoy a book with lots of twist and turns in the plot and with depth in characters, because other people have given it rave reviews!

Tatiana Ashurst has a secret, a secret that she tries so very hard to hide from Georgian high society.
Her twin sister Trina is being brought forth into society in the hope of finding a husband and with that comes an extensive dowry.
Tatiana uses her powerful magic to help her sister feel better about such a horrendous evening and at the same time draws the eye away from herself, pushing Trina into the limelight.
Kit Vallentyn is looking for a wife, his overbearing Father believes Trina is the one for him. Letting the chance of that dowry be the deciding factor.
Kit however finds himself drawn to Tatiana.
What is it about this plain, penniless and ineligible girl?
The attraction seems to be mutual and Tatiana tries her hardest not to reveal her secret but fails on numerous occasions.
With a challenging opposition from both families Tatiana and Kit find their increasing attraction hard to resist and soon realise that their love is much stronger than the obstacles put in front of them.
Usually with novellas I find myself anticipating the end almost as soon as I begin to read but I became so lost in this one I was disappointed when the end happened.
As a person who loves any period drama, book or movie I was instantly drawn in.
I love a character that although is extremely powerful can show kind heartedness and compassion and Tatiana does just that. Her character is written with a perfect combination of those elements making her a delight to read about.
Kit is also developed incredibly well, it’s easy to feel the emotions he goes through in this story, from the love for Tatiana to his torment when trying to decide what is right when interacting with his Father.
It can be hard with novella’s to give depth to all characters involved in a story and it was easy for me to overlook my need for more information when reading this book. The two main characters gave me enough to keep me hooked.
Although a short story this will send the reader on an emotional journey with a hope of a perfect outcome.

So I usually hate novellas. I cannot think of a novella I like although I am sure there has to be one.

This book is adorable and also infurating. Adorable for the ending, infurating because theres so much sexism and shaming for their looks its annoying. Its pretty common in books from regency settings that there will be both as that was what society was like back then. I have to remind myself that its just a book and to not get so mad over some things said.

However I do love this, I'm sure if I had read the books that go with this I'd find this even more adorable than it is.

it is a novella . . .

I thought the beginning dragged. I wasn't sure where the story was going. It was shallow. And I know it's a novella, so there wasn't time for depth. The magic redeemed it for me. It's a clean read, which I was nervous about. I read another one of Bonds books and it wasn't a clean read. I'll admit, sounds like the next book, Magic in the Storm, whose prologue is at that end of this one, is interesting. This book was like a long prologue, a mini prequel.

This book was a sweet romance. Tatiana hid her beauty, and the man who falls in love with her sees the good in her heart, even though she almost (accidentally) let loose her powers on mere mortals. For a moment near the end, I thought he was going to be a coward after he learned of Tatiana's destiny. He did rebuff the marriage idea for a moment because of it. I believe the other two books in the series will be just as great as this one.

This was a sweet, romantic story about a pair of twin sisters 'coming out' and looking for a suitable husband. One has magical abilities and the other does not.
Oh, the things they got up to.....
The book has a clever plot and storyline, one that kept me glued to the pages of this short story and I really enjoyed it.

I seriously want the series! This was just a short, but I really enjoyed it. I love the Victorian era and anything with magic makes me happy. The combination is both unexpected and exactly what I've been missing.

I liked this story, but I wish it had been a full length novel. I was only just getting into the characters when I was at the end. Because of this, I'm not sure about downloading the next one in the series.
