They usually took turns being in charge, which was fine with me. I was just happy to go along with them.
After all, I thought I was the luckiest little girl in the whole world. Most of my classmates only had one best friend, but I had two: my best friend Izzy and her twin brother.
Back then, I hoped things would never change, but that's the problem with more. Once I saw a glimpse of it, it was impossible to stop wanting it.
Especially when it came to Shane.
**This standalone best friend romance has no cheating, no cliffhangers, and is intended for a mature audience.
Hazel Kelly is an Amazon bestselling author who writes sweet and steamy romance that will make you smile all over.

Finally over. The story gets a little better after they get together around 63%. What really made me give 1 star is the judgmental tone the author used. I respect all kind of religions and people faith. Everyone has the right to believe and follow anything they want. In this book the author has a huge intolerance with Christians. At some point, after many criticism about Christian living their faith, the author wrote this " HONESTLY, IT'S SHOCKING WHAT SOME OF THOSE GOOD 'CHRISTIANS' WILL WEAR...AND HOW MANY BLOWJOBS THEY'LL GIVE TO MAKE SURE THEY SAVE THEMSELVES." This is just one example. People are always asking for respect about their choices, any choice, and then the author is so disrespectful. And then, she decides to criticize women who goes to the gym wearing sports bras. Well, in the gym I work out many women wear the "offensive top" and believe most of them use them because is comfortable or because they want to. Some look good, some doesn't (imo) but so what?? It's their choice. Again: RESPECT people's choice. But the author decided to be judge and executioner. Another gold piece "...WHICH WERE ALWAYS FULL OF SWINGING PONYTAILS AND GIRLS WEARING JUST SPORTS BRAS. AS IF I WOULD EVER SUBJECT STRANGERS TO THAT KIND OF JIGGLING...." Well, these kind of judgmental thoughts were extremely low.
I really enjoyed this book. It was my first foray into this author's work but it won't be my last. Andi has been best friends with Shane and his twin Izzy since they were 7 yrs old. Now Andi and Shane are at the same College & Andi is being treated badly by her horrid ex boyfriend so turns to her best friend Shane. They have always been close....and they are about to get closer.
For Shane, it's like he is looking at the girl who has always been in his heart, through new eyes.
"Where did little Andi Oliver learn to kiss like that? And why the f*** wasn't I informed?"
If you enjoy College themed, girl falls in love with friend's brother, friends to lovers trope stories....snap this up! It's fun, sweet, low angst, highly enjoyable and lovely!
There was potential with this friends to lovers romance. But in the end, I felt like the storyline got rushed and we didn't get a true development of this romance. Sure they'd been friends for fifteen years, but I'd expect a change to their relationship once they started sleeping with each other. Maybe a deeper connection instead of it feeling like they just slept with someone who knew them really well.
“A few weeks ago, Mike pushed her around- scared the shit out of her. She showed up here bleary eyed with a busted lip."
Her face dropped. "Shit."
"She asked if I would go get her stuff from his place."
"Uh-huh."
"So I did, and when I came back, I wanted to keep an eye on her. Plus, I felt guilty about the fact that I’d basically been avoiding her ever since she started dating Mike-"
"She mentioned that."
“So I asked her to stay the night.”
Izzy raised her eyebrows.
"Anyway, at some point she started worrying about her busted lip- that it wouldn't heal, that it looked like shit. So I kissed it. Just where it was cracked. Just to shut her up."
My Best Friend's Brother was very cute! It's also New Adult (NA) so I did struggle a bit while reading it. I had no real problems with the writing, etc but as NA is not really my thing, it took me a while to finish.
My Best Friend's Brother is book two in the Soulmates series and I'm *guessing* that the series is based around taboos? Because book one is about step-siblings. My Best Friend's Brother as a title is a little misleading but not by much. The heroine was best friends with both siblings - Shane just got tired of sharing Andi with his sister.
I really enjoyed the fact that My Best Friend's Brother has a refreshing lack of angst - which encourages me to try book one (even though NA is not my thing).
I also enjoyed the way Hazel Kelly dealt with a very serious subject in a very...non-preachy way. At the start of My Best Friend's Brother, Andi is in an abusive relationship and she's just admitting it to herself. She's recognizes that she's physically afraid of her boyfriend and that the relationship is changing her in ways she doesn't like. I appreciated the lack of judgement in the handling of this situation. My only issue is how the abusive ex was punished.
All in all, I really enjoyed My Best Friend's Brother and it's major lack of angst. The maturity of the characters made up for the collegiate setting.
Original review is lost due to my own darn fault! No spoilers here cause there is no story here! The heroine is the anti-heroine who is so self centred it's disgusting! Literally she is just one big bigoted bitch who thinks that she can just be mean and it just her being honest! Bullshit! She is what I consider a subtle bully in this picture here! To say I disliked her is putting it mildly. She ruined the whole story for me. She acts all nice and free but she is just narrow minded and dependent on others to do her dirty work! I hate woman like her who cry abuse while verbally abusing others. I understood the whole Mike thing at the beginning but she is just selfish. She says help me get my stuff cause my boyfriend hit me and she tells him he has a bat knowing that her best friend could be hurt or killed for just picking up her crap! I was so mad! Is an iPod and boots and jacket worth this??? Where is the love? They know each other forever and have Other relationships but he was always loving, caring and putting everyone on hold for her. However, she would be or rather act totally indifferent to all his struggles to make her happy. Just ahhhh! What a waste of space here! It was sooooo long that I had to stop myself from sleeping twice only to wake up with my kindle closed! Yes, everyone it was that awesome (extreme sarcasm here). Read it and sleep girls! Safety, nope it's not worth it!
Shane, Andi and Izzy have been best friends since they met as children when the twins (Shane and Izzy Jennings) moved into the neighborhood when they were around nine years old. As they got older, Shane and Andi both noticed each other. Not wanting their friendship to suffer neither ever explored their feelings or thought they could.
When Andi's abusive college boyfriend sends her running to Shane for comfort and protection, everything changes. Shane realizes he's held back too long. This may be his only chance to let the girl he's always loved know exactly how he feels. Andi isn't sure, not only if Shane is really changing the dynamics of their relationship, but what this could do to their friendship if things don't work out? Will she still have her best friend? Then theirs Izzy, her other best. This is the first time either of them has lied to her. Can they tell her about something neither of them is even sure of themselves?
With dual POV, Shane and Andi try to navigate their best friend status and the suppressed love they've felt for a long time. And what will happen when Izzy finds out?
It was a quicker read then I thought it would be... And it was sweet. I did want to strangle both Shane and Andi when they kept putting off telling Izzy. I loved Stephanie and how funny and straight forward she was, even though she was a virginal Christian. I thought she was very grounded in reality.
I loved the little things that came to light that Shane did, even as a child, that showed how much he cared for Andi. He did things unconsciously, that looking back with hindsight, showed that he thought of Andi more than just another sister. I also loved how he spoke to her once he realized what he wanted and wasn't going to be deterred. He said some of the sweetest things.
It's a simple story, with a few very funny moments. I really enjoyed it.
I read this book through Kindle Unlimited. It is written in duel pov's. This is my second book by this author and the writing is ok. There is a lot of internal dialogue so I found myself skimming.
Andi has two best friends she grew up with, they are twins Izzy and her brother Shane. Andi is going to the same college as Shane where they are seniors. When she is assaulted by her boyfriend she turns to Shane. He helps her and during the time they spend together he starts to see her as more than a friend. As a beautiful woman who is suddenly available. He decides to ask her out and their relationship progress's from there. Izzy eventually walks in on them before they have a chance to tell her but she is happy for them. The book is pretty much drama free and takes place over just a few months time. Nice epilogue where he gives her a ring and promises that he will always be her best friend and that one day he will be a whole lot more.
One of my absolute favorites books! Shane is a top book boyfriend of mine. This book is a go to re-read for me too. I read it multiple times. I love it. I literally own this in ever available form I can, that shows how much I love it.
I fell hard for Shane and how protective he is of Andi! You can tell the love Andi has for Shane but also she holds back some not wanting to screw up their friendship or the friendship she has with Izzy her best friend and Shane’s sister. The history and the angst is do hot. Shane is extra growly over Andi! Andi is going through a tough time with her ex snd Shane is there to protect, eeeekkk, so hot! Hazel Kelly is brilliant. This book makes me so happy and it is do swoony. An absolute must devour!
I enjoyed the relationship and the fact that once they got together, they stayed together (no over dramatic break-up 75% in). My problem is that there were far too many negative comments about everyone else. The main characters spent too much time thinking and saying negative things. There were terrible comments about being Catholic and bashing girls based on their looks. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if there wasn't so much negativity.
okay i loved this book straight up because it had not conflict - at least not between the main characters - which automatically makes it an amazing read. But if i had to be critical, i really like friends to lovers where the guy KNOWS he’s head over heels in love with the girl and Shane kinda knew but not fully. which is just me being dumb and wanting to live my life through books but we can’t always win. Anyways this was a really nice and easy read where it didn’t break your heart or make you want through the book down because you got so frustrated and i appreciate that
It wasn’t terrible, but there was a lot that could have and should have been done differently. I did like Shane and Andi a lot. And I loved the structure of their story. There was other things that rubbed me the wrong way. Quick read through.
This book seems like it was written by a 15 year old girl thinking she knows everything about everything but really looks stupid because it's completely wrong. UGHH It was awful. I'm ashamed to say that I finished the book.
This wasn't horrible, and the characters were actually likable. I just didn't like the way the "hero" was devasted by his ex, Piper. It just left me with a "meh" reaction to the story overall.
I seriously can’t get enough of Hazel Kelly’s books, I always have a feeling that each book will be just as awesome as the last one and yet again she proves that. The way she writes her books just makes you fall into the story and you get so wrapped up in the characters and the story that when you get to the end it makes you wish that it hadn’t gotten to the end. This isn’t your typical love story where the two character’s play around and try and not admit to their feelings it’s something else, it makes a change from what you see from other authors. However I always love what Hazel writes as she creates such amazing stories. I wish that her books were available on paperback as honestly these are stories that are worth treasuring.
Shane and Andi have known each other for quite a while and are at the same college, they used to have such a close friendship but after Andi started going out with this one guy Shane distanced himself from her as deep down he had deep feelings for Andi. However after the unfortunate incident of Andi’s boyfriend abusing her and nearly breaking her jaw she has no other choice but go to Shane and it’s from this moment that they both try and repair their friendship that was once strong. With Shane coming to terms that he thinks that Andi is beautiful and that he has a thing for her, she is sceptical and honestly after going through what she has you wouldn’t blame her. However it’s clear that just from reading about both of them how strong their connection is and Shane tries his hardest to get her to see that she means a lot to him but honestly whether or not she decides to give into to Shane, who she has craved of being with for a while is a whole different matter. Honestly I think you should give this book a read for yourself as honestly Hazel Kelly never disappoints.
I cannot believe I did again!!! I started with the second book in the series. So forgive me if the review is a little off.
I have never read anything by Hazel before, but book two in this Soulmates series was better that I expected. I love the fact that we get both pov and we're than on a flash journey of their childhood.
It's through these journey we get to witness true love in most innocent and rare form. For one I was ecstatic to read a story that wasn't built on insta-love.
Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance was well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!
i was surprised to learn that i have read this book 2years ago. it only showed how much i loved it. definitely a must when you are looking for something to re-read. ==================================
rating: 5 stars -1st read: january2016 i was looking for a book to read before i sleep so i chance upon this ebook. boy, was i glad that i started this because.... i can't put it down. it was a nice read. the usual light, fun read i like. the "kilig" stuff i always look for when i wanted some "dessert" oook (that's just me!) when i'm reading my main book.
it's such a cutesy book but not for teens, if i may add. definitely a must read if you are into NA books and you want some yum and giggles on the side.
i'm checking out other books of hazel kelly because i want more of this kind of "after-reads" moment =)
So I was mostly enjoying the story even with the few negativish religious references. I get it. But what made we stop was the part where Andi asks Steph how black she wants her coffee. And the choices are Will Smith Black or Wesley Snipes Black. And Steph chooses Tyrese in the rain black. Now I get the trying to be cute. But it’s not. It’s a little bit of a messed up way of measurement. And despite thinking “okay I can ignore this.” I can’t. So I won’t be reading this any further. Or any of her other books.
Again I’m sure she meant nothing by it but it’s a poor choice in wording. Especially since black people struggle enough with how shades of our skin without it having to be used as a means of measurement for how dark someone wants their coffee.
But I could also just be sensitive about. To each their own.
A sweet friends-to-lovers story. The title is a little misleading, because while Shane is Izzy's brother, they were all best friends growing up. I suppose things changed a bit once they hit puberty. They both tried (and succeeded at) keeping their growing feelings for each other under wraps. Neither acted on their attraction because neither wanted to mess up their dynamic. But when Andi's boyfriend assaults her and she turns to Shane for help since they're at the same college, things change really quickly. Because they've known each other for so long, they got to skip over all the awkward getting-to-know-you dating and get right to the good stuff. But what to do about telling Izzy? Turns out it wasn't so hard once she caught them on a morning after. Anyway, cute story.
DNF. I stopped at about 23%. I just couldn't connect with the characters. I don't really like the fact that there wasn't much dialogue in the book. I started to skim through certain parts cause I was starting to get a bit bored. I'm also a Christian. There was a quick reference in the book that I didn't appreciate. I'm no prude...AT ALL..believe me, check out my library. But I do have my beliefs and I was disappointed when I read the reference, I tried to just ignore it and keep reading but I couldn't do it.
“I could wake up tomorrow and start over, and I wouldn’t need anyone else’s approval… especially not the approval of some virgin who’s gotten all his life experience from books."
I'm sorry to say that this wasn't as good as the first in the series. I love friends to lovers. I love best friend's brother romances. I love when the h picks up her life and finds a real man. The potential for this novel was great.
However, I didn't really connect with the characters. I honestly didn't care about them until about the halfway point. The story lacked connection despite the opening scene, I never felt a pull to the characters. It seemed to get better but it could just be the story picked up.
This book has some events in it that might be hard for some people to handle. But that is the starting point in way for the love story that follows. I really enjoyed this book, there where highs and lows and wow's did that really just happen. One of my favorite things about this story is the game that Shane plays with Andi. It has to do with Oreo's and playing truth or dare! This will be a book that I will come back to and read again. I really enjoyed it.
I liked the storyline and the private thoughts of the MCs. I just found their dialogue to be frustrating. Shane was too smooth and would find a way of playing on words to avoid a real conversation and Andi pushed and was closed off. Their conversations didn't feel like they were best friends.
What an awesome story! I just loved the story line and how Shane and Andi after so many years of denying their attraction finally are having their HEA.
