London 1666 - A terrible plague has swept through the city and people live in fear of animals carrying the disease.Woofer is a loveable stray who works in the palace kitchen and Tiger Lily is the pampered pet spaniel of King Charles II. They come from very different worlds but this hasn't stopped them becoming the best of friends and looking out for each other. When Woofer finds himself in trouble he has to escape the palace grounds and Tiger Lily isn't far behind him. It's not long before a new danger emerges - a great fire is sweeping across London destroying everything in its path. Can these two brave dogs survive the blazing fire and make their way to safety?
Really cute little book about two dogs living in 1666 and their experience becoming friends and escaping the Great Fire of London. I wanted something sweet and easy to read and this fit the bill. I enjoyed how there are plenty of historical facts mixed in with the story and even as an older reader I learned something new reading this. This book has a good sense of humour but doesnt shy away from having some dark and sad scenes too which I felt was a nice balance.
My entry for Tolstoy "The Fire Dogs" Goodreads makes it impossible to add books.
From Grok: 1. “The Fire Dogs”(Russian: «Пожарные собаки», 1872–1880)This is the one people usually mean when they search1155 search for “Tolstoy fire rescue dogs.”Plot in one paragraphDuring a terrible house fire in a village, the family escapes but realizes their little baby is still inside the burning house. No one can get back in: the flames are too fierce. Suddenly two big dogs (the family’s own dogs who had been tied up outside) tear free from their chains, rush straight into the blazing building, find the cradle, grip it with their teeth, and drag the baby out safely to the parents. One dog is badly burned and dies a few days later; the other lives and is loved by the whole village forever after.
This book was absolutely lovely don't get me wrong but I just found it seemed to drag on a bit. I know that the author just wanted to put in as much historical information in as she can but maybe it was just because I am just too old for this book.
