Conflicted

Rate this book
The story of Imogen’s enslavement continues as the realization of her predicament becomes more real even as it becomes more surreal. Her new world is confused with emotions that blanket the spectrum from fear to curiosity to arousal. She is beyond CONFLICTED against the rising tide of her feelings for Erik.

Erik’s presence is requested at the main compound where Imogen must witness, first-hand, the fate of the other slaves. She watches on with both fascination and even jealousy as Erik’s role and true nature reveal themselves when asked to restrain and punish another prisoner at the behest of her master. It is clear that Imogen is not the only one CONFLICTED.

Can Erik’s training keep Imogen safe from the hands of the cruel leader Malachi? Will Stephen’s foreboding threats come to fruition, his rank taking Imogen away from the safety of Erik’s strong protection?

CONFLICTED is the third installment in the IMOGEN series, a tale about a maiden taken away as a prisoner from the bed of her husband on their wedding night

R.B. O’Brien has always been drawn to the more taboo side of storytelling, even as a young adult, from hiding books from strict Catholic parents as a teen to getting lost in the erotic sections of bookstores for hours.

She is best known for her three published erotic romances, Thorne, Edge of Torment and Imogen. But she is now forging a name for herself in the New Adult Romance category as well as poetry, her true passion, Ruin My Lipstick her first of many to come.

Much of O'Brien's work explores the darker, sensual nature of relationships, those riddled with the reality of insecurities and human folly, often exposing the vulnerability, emotional turmoil, and occasional pain that can come from losing oneself in the heat of passion and the obstacles of love.

O'Brien holds a degree in English literature and teaches for a living in the Northeast, USA. She is the founding member of The Nu Romantics, a poet, a professor, a writer, a dancer, and a hopeful romantic known for her poetry prompts on social media. O’Brien also has a profound affection for Shakespeare and beyond that, writes. Every chance she gets.

Imogen's story is so dark and at times so brutal. So many times these pages took my breath away and left me speechless and at a loss for words. Normally I will not read a book about war,  but this one is so different from anything I've ever read. It's a very emotional book, you will feel heartache, but so much anger for what these girls were faced with.

Imogen was lucky compared to other girls, but lucky really isn't the right word to use. She had it far better then others. She was just an innocent woman, like the others, that fell as a slave during this war. They were used and tortured and had to endure whatever their master desired. Erik was so much different then the other men, but also so much the same.
Somehow between all the torture, love was found by accident. A twistedly dark love, but somehow those two develope an odd secret bond. Erik tries to keep her safe. Their strange bond will anger and frustrate you while reading this book, but you'll be so hooked on what's going to happen next, you just can't put it down.

Author R.B. O'Bren takes us deeper into Imogen's world with this tale where she and Erik are asked to join the other officers and their slaves at the main compound. Once there they are seated and are served but one of the other officer's slave gets out of hand and is tortured, the rest I will leave for you to read, this is a great series by a great author and I highly recommend picking up this series, I'm looking forward to the fourth book in this series as well as the combined fifth through eighth.

This volume has the men and their slaves finally all meeting for a "dinner party" for lack of a better word. One of the slaves is punished by all the men while the other slaves watch. I was expecting some type of orgy but things never reached that point. Imogen couldn't help but be turned on watching the other slave being used and punished. She's still conflicted by her attraction to her new master. It will be nteresting to see what happens next.

I found the series very intriguing, and will finish the series. I do wish each installment was longer.

Conflicted

RB O'Brien continues to capture our minds pulling us into a spectacle of public punishment. How we react to what we see is something we 've all struggled with. Finding the balance of feelings that our mind can handle in certain situations is difficult under the best of circumstances. Imogen continues to pull me into her world, she has passed the first test or did she?

Oh poor Imogen, she is so conflicted with her feelings towards Erik. One minute, she is falling for him, enjoys what he does to her body and how he makes her feel. The next, she remembers that she is a slave and has to do as she is told, and dislikes him.

In this installement, Imogen faces her first test. She has to leave the safety of Eriks quarters to witness public punishment. Will she pass the test?? Or will she draw unwanted attension to herself if she cannot hide her emotions??
