Eddie Red, the NYPD’s youngest crime-solving hero, smells trouble. Could he be the target of the elusive art thief Lars Heinrich, whose last robbery he ruined? If so, why won’t the police let Eddie help on the case? What are they hiding from him? In the thrilling third installment of the Eddie Red Undercover series, Eddie will need some luck of the Irish as he races against the clock (and bombs and runaway subway cars) to stop what could be one of the greatest heists in history. Companion to Eddie Red Mystery on the Musuem Mile and Eddie Red Mystery in Mayan Mexico .
Eddie is convinced that the art thief from the first book, Lars Heinrich, is back. And is he, in a big way.
This one starts with "someone" sending bombs and threats against Eddie Red to the NYPD. It looks like the work of a prominent IRA bomber, but why the man has switched from Ireland to New York is a bit of a mystery. Until the crown jewels arrive in the city for an exhibition and… well, you know where this is headed, right?
The cops again recruit Eddie to work with them, although when Det. Bovano shows up as the science teacher at Eddie and Jonah's middle school, it starts to feel a lot more like he's under surveillance, maybe even witness-protection.
Eddie tries to play it cool, like he doesn't know Det. Bovano, but everyone figures out they know each other in a heartbeat. The question for them is, how? And why is teacher Bovano so focused on Eddie?
Eddie knows why, and so he gets to work figuring out Lars' real plot. He susses out Lars wants to steal the rest of the crown jewels, but … the question this time is, is that all Lars wants? Or is Lars carrying out a personal vendetta against Eddie, for foiling the earlier (book 1) art heist, as well?
Indeed, he is. Lars manipulates Eddie into working for him (I won't say how) and only with help from a most unlikely ally, who's being similarly manipulated, can Eddie crack the case and get a heads up to the NYPD of what's about to happen.
There are no more books in this series, which is a shame, as I really enjoyed the voice and a Black, super smart protagonist. Enjoy the read!

AJSHSJSAJKAJAHSJ KEREN banget 😩 This series is my favorite so far. Plotnya bener-bener menarik dan alurnya ga ketebak (buat aku). Tapi ending ngegantung banget, kesel 😡
I was clueless while reading this. I kept thinking 'who is the suspect?', 'who's guilty?', 'that does this mean?', 'what does the code mean?'.
Eddie and Jonah, (especially Jonah), was so awesome. They were a brilliant kids, super smart. I don't know how Jonah could solve those codes. Aku aja plonga plongo waktu Jonah jelasin clue-clue yg dia temuin.
I could tell who's behind the crime from the beginning of the story, tapi jelas aku gabisa nebak gimana cara penjahatnya bisa secerdas itu buat melakukan tindak kriminal yg brilian dan penuh teka-teki. Bahkan polisi dan FBI-nya aja kebingungan.
Tapi endingnya bener-bener asem banget. Masih ada satu pertanyaan yg belum ke solve. 'Who is the fox?'
I really hope there's another book. Otherwise I woukd get really mad.
Eddie Red, NYPD’s youngest undercover employee, uses his photographic memory and quick-draw artistic skills to solve crimes. When mysterious notes directed at him are delivered to the police station, he is brought in to solve the mystery. How are a renowned art thief from Eddie’s past, the Irish Republican Army, the Trojan Horse, and a duchess connected? In cat-and-mouse code-breaking challenges from the elusive “Fox,” Eddie follows a trail of clues that take him to historical monuments and city landmarks to save lives and stop heists. This latest book in the Edgar-nominated mystery series, filled with maps and puzzles, will hold the attention of readers until the end. A short epilogue includes “HOW TO BE A CRYPTOGRAPHER” instructions for breaking codes.
Plot line a little too close to home with bombs set to detonate at different parts of New York City. This one is a continuation of the first, with Lars Heinrich back for more. I like Eddie and his group of friends and family.
this was utterly lame. Sorry to be rude, but the book just went down on my list. It was the average book, leaving a cliffhanger that we don't get to see in the next book cuz THERE IS NO NEXT BOOK. So yea. No recommendations from me on this book.
2nd in the series. I really enjoy his determination to help. The sketches are a great addition. See review of the first book. (kidnapping, bomb threats)
Eddie Red is back for a new installment in the Eddie Red Undercover series. In this adventure, “Eddie” must stop international art thief Lars Heinrich as he pulls off his most daring and dangerous plot that involves bombs, jewels, and famous art.
This middle grade adventure mystery will appeal to young readers with its fast paced action and kid hero themes. Even though it is a book in series, readers will not be lost as some of the back story is explained at it goes along and the focus is really the latest mystery. The book’s bonus feature “How to be a Cryptographer” explains the different types of codes and how to crack them just like Eddie and his friends do in the book.
I would recommend this book for purchase to any school or public library. This book was provided by the publisher for professional review by SWON Libraries.
A kid with a photographic memory and a skill at drawing who helps solve crimes? What's not to love? What's even better is that this is a modern series with a realistic hero who actually ends up in deadly danger. I've got to get this series for both my school libraries. In this book a mad bomber is leaving fake bombs all over the city, with mentions of Eddie. Who has he messed with in the past who may now want him dead? Fun characters, great puzzles, and good writing make this series a winner for 4th to 6th graders.
Another in the Eddie Red Undercover mystery series for upper elementary and middle school readers, this one involves points in New York City and code-breaking. This is a fun and fast-moving mystery which will satisfy readers. Though the protaganist is a boy girls will enjoy this also. The author incorporates a bit of history and geography along with the mystery. Included is a chapter about cryptography which will whet the appetite of those who are intrigued by codes.
It’s the third book in the series and Eddie Red must face an old foe while tackling new problems. A mix of adventure and fun, readers will enjoy these mysteries involving art thefts and secret messages.
It was a good book. It had a lot of suspenseful moments and there were some moments where you thought Eddie was going to die. it was overall a really good series. Too bad this is the last book.

I've never cared to read but this book series is extremely interesting and I finished each book in one to two days. I would like to know if you are still making the series and if so when will book 4 come out? Thanks!
