Marley McKinney setting into life in the small town of Wildwood Cove. She has inherited the Flip Side restaurant, which is flourishing during the tourist season. There’s one small problem, although it’s not really that small. One of the locals, Ida Winkler, is pulling all sorts of pranks on her from making crank calls to writing graffiti outside her restaurant. Unfortunately, there’s nothing anyone can do since there is evidence of Ida’s guilt.

Things turn even more problematic for Marley when she discovers Ida’s dead body. Of course she’s the number one suspect. It’s up to her to prove her own innocence. Her investigating turns up some interesting things, such as Ida had many many enemies and was far from well liked.

This is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series and I enjoyed it very much. Marley is a great character. I enjoyed the developing relationship she has with her old friend Brett. It’s a fast-paced story with quirky characters. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

Another winner! In this installment, Marley got involved in solving another murder, this time the killing of a particularly pesky person that no one in town seemed very upset about. There was also a side mystery involving a meth lab and some illegal dumping in the river. It was interesting to read and see if it would tie into the main murder. People were being blackmailed too, and some were sure that was why the dead person ended up dead.

I hadn't guessed the killer this time and was glad to see another exciting showdown that showed Marley just how awesome all her friends were. She also learned that telling the one you love about your fears worked out better than she'd thought it would. Marley and Brett were closer than ever now. As much as I'd like to binge right into the the third book, I have some books I was hoping to finish before the end of the month, but we'll see, I might still get to book three very soon.

Generally speaking, I'm drawn to so-called "cozy" mysteries for one reason only: They provide refreshing respites in between the mind-bending murder mysteries and thrillers that constitute most of my reading list. So it was with this one, an advance copy I requested, and received, in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley. And like most others I've read, it's an engaging story and short enough that I finished it in one day. It is the second in the "Pancake House" series featuring shop owner Marley McKinney (the first is The Crepes of Wrath, which I have not read (a fact that had no bearing on my enjoying this one, BTW).

Marley and the other characters in this book - including her boyfriend Brett - for the most part are a likable lot, although I can't say I developed any real affinity for any of them. Marley just can't manage to keep her nose out of everyone else's business (not unlike most cozy mystery heroines, actually -- after all, without their overstepping boundaries and getting involved in situations where they're not welcome, there'd be no plot). Suffice it to say if I were one of Marley's neighbors, though, I'd be looking at moving someplace else.

Also as expected, there's murder without mayhem, love without sex, and a town in which hardly anyone drinks anything stronger than peach tea. Heck, just kissing someone you shouldn't have seems to be an unforgivable transgression in this burg. But after all, such is the stuff cozy mysteries are made of - and part of what makes them fun to read.

Marley, who used to live in Seattle, inherited the Flip Side restaurant in Wildwood Cove. Deciding to give it a go, she relocated, found a kitty companion she appropriately named Flapjack, and renewed her childhood acquaintance with Brett. But there's an older gal in town - Ida Winkler - who's causing trouble at every turn; Marley is certain the crotchety woman is behind the graffiti that's twice been painted on the shop's exterior. Shortly thereafter, Marley buys a lamp base at an antique store, but it's stolen almost from under her nose by - you guessed it - Ida.

When Marley goes to Ida's house to confront her over the theft, she finds the lamp base - along with a very dead Ida (the base, it appears, is the murder weapon). So when Marley summons the local police, she finds herself in the position of person of interest. Not good for business, Marley concludes; her shop will suffer when word gets around town that she's a suspect. So, she sets out to find the killer and establish her own innocence - even after the police and most of her friends advise her to ceast and desist.

Needless to say, those admonitions fall on deaf ears, and Marley plods ahead - turning up clues that all the professional investigators somehow miss. Predictably, her efforts land her in water hotter than she pours over the tea in her shop and put her very life in danger. Will she survive to see another pancake-flipping day? My lips are sealed (well, I'll open them in a heartbeat if she offers me one of those tempting treats from her shop, but I won't hold my breath till then). Meantime, if you want to find out, go read the book for yourself.

For Whom the Bread Rolls by Sarah Fox is the second book in A Pancake House Mystery series. Marley McKinney is enjoying life in Wildwood Cove. She is glad that she gave up the rat race in Seattle working as a legal assistant. Marley arrives at work one morning to discover hateful words painted on the windows of The Flip Side, the pancake house she owns. Ida Winkler has been at it again. It is the second time within ten days that this has happened. Marley knows Ida committed the act, but she has no proof. Then the phone calls start (you know where someone is there but does not talk) and an antique lamp base that Marley had just purchased is stolen off her front porch. After a couple of days of hang-up calls, Marley decides to visit Ida (bad idea). Marley knocks on the front door and receives no answer. A kindly neighbor suggests she go around to the back door. Upon arriving in the backyard, Marley notices that the door to the garden shed is standing open. She looks inside and finds Ida on the ground. Ida was hit on the head with Marley’s antique lamp base. Marley contacts the police and notices a clue while awaiting their arrival. Sheriff Georgeson quickly arrives and takes Marley’s statement. Unfortunately, while the good sheriff knows Marley would not hurt a soul, this does not look good for her. Marley, with her natural curiosity, starts nosing around looking for clues and questioning Ida’s neighbors. But what happens when the killer finds Marley a little too close for comfort.

For Whom the Bread Rolls is easy to read, has a good pace, and can be finished in a few hours. I found it, though, to be more cozy than mystery. Marley spent much of her time enjoying the beach by herself and with her boyfriend, Brett (Sheriff Georgeson’s nephew). I wish there had been less romance and more time spent on the actual mystery. I give For Whom the Bread Rolls 3 out of 5 stars. The murder is not the only mystery in the book. Someone is dumping illegally around town and then an abandoned meth lab is discovered near the woods. There is also a blackmailer among the town’s citizens. I did enjoy how the author tied these three storylines together. Unfortunately, they are all easily solved. I could tell you who would die and the identity of the killer before the murder occurred. The other two cases are equally simple to crack. I wish the author had spent more time on crafting the mystery. I enjoy reading cozy mysteries because there is less gore and they usually revolve around a craft, hobby or pet. The mysteries used to be more developed and harder to unravel. I did like the addition of Flapjack, the cat, and Bentley, the dog, Marley and Brett discovered on the beach. I felt bad for Bentley. He was injured and quite thin (I cannot stand to see or read about injured animals). While this is the second book in the series, For Whom the Bread Rolls can be read alone. The author provides the necessary background information on Marley and how she came to be living in Wildwood Cove. If you prefer books with more of the cozy element, than For Whom the Bread Rolls is the book for you.

This Pancake House Mystery finds Marley McKinney settling into her new life in Wildwood Cove. She is updating her home and loves working at the Pancake House that she inherited from her cousin who was the victim in the first book in the series. With her relationship with Brett, her boyfriend developing, she is quite happy with her life, except for Ida. Ida Winkler has been harassing Marley with prank phone calls as well as adding graffiti on the windows of the restaurant. When Marley decides to confront Ida about the reasons behind this behaviour, she finds Ida dead, stabbed to death in her shed. Of course with Marley's issues with Ida and the fact that she found the body, she is a person of interest. Marley doesn't want the locals to think she killed the woman, so she decides to do a little sleuthing to find the actual killer. As she begins to ask questions, she finds out that there are a lot of people who might want Ida dead. Who is the culprit.

Marley is a strong, independent and intelligent woman. Her restaurant seems like a cozy, enjoyable place for the townsfolk to meet up. The supporting characters are all likable with enough quirkiness to make them interesting. The mystery is well-paced with plenty of suspects. The ending, unfortunately, was not what I expected. The culprit was reasonable, but the other story line of blackmail, was a bit too conveniently settled. Other than that, I enjoyed the book very much. I am going to continue to read this series, hopefully the concern I had with this one was just a blip. This was a quick read, or in my case listen as I had the audiobook, with just over 200 pages. The Narration in the book was well done with an easy to listen to voice. If you like culinary cozies, pick this one up and see what you think.

Another good read. Marley is finally settled in Wildwood Cove running the Pancake House and starting a new relationship with Brett. Because of her past trauma, she holds herself away from the relationship with Brett and we see her struggle to break through it. As for the mystery, I really did not care for murder victim. I'm glad she's out of the series anyway. But poor Marley gets involved when she's the person of interest in Ida's murder. And to save herself and her pancake House from tanking, she begins her own investigation and gets into multiple scrapes. All in all, this was an enjoyable read.

For Whom the Bread Rolls is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series. This new tale finds Marley McKinney settling into her new life in Wildwood Cove. She loves her ocean front home and pancake restaurant, The Flip Side, that she inherited from her deceased cousin. She also loves her boyfriend, Brett. In fact, life would be pretty perfect....except for a vengeful, nasty woman, Ida Winkler. Ida does little annoying things like scrawling graffiti on the restaurant's front windows and prank calling the restaurant continually. Finally, Marley has had enough. She goes to Ida's house to confront her....and finds her dead. Marley doesn't want the locals to think she killed the woman, so she decides to do a little sleuthing to find the killer. As with most small towns, it turns out there are a lot of people in Wildwood Cove with secrets. But which one is a murderer?

I enjoyed this book. Marley is a strong, independent and intelligent woman. Her restaurant seems like a cozy, enjoyable place -- wish it was real! I would definitely eat there! The supporting characters are all likable with enough quirkiness to make them interesting. The mystery is well-paced with plenty of suspects.

It isn't necessary to read book one before delving into this mystery. I haven't read The Crepes of Wrath yet, but was easily able to get into this story and the characters. I'm definitely going to read the first book! I have it on Kindle just waiting for me. :) For Whom the Bread Rolls, a quick read at just 212 pages, is definitely an enjoyable cozy mystery.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A cute mystery where no one likes the victim. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed this as much if it weren't for Marley. She's a good character for an amateur sleuth, but the story itself didn't capture my interest like I had hoped. Maybe reading the first one would have helped also. This was still likable, and I plan to read the next.

I've read the previous book and was delighted to read this one too.
This is a fun cozy mystery filled with colorful characters and witty dialogue.
In this story, a neighborhood resident is found dead and that leads to a series of investigations in which secrets are uncovered and nosy business owners get involved.
This was a fast paced story filled with suspicious activity, good friends and a bit of romance.
This should appeal to all cozy mystery fans.

Book received from NetGalley.

This was a cute, cozy, culinary mystery. While it is the second book in the series and I have not read the first I didn't have an issue keeping things straight that were mentioned in the first book. She gives enough background that reading at least these first two out of order is not an issue. While I did guess "whodunnit" before the end of the book I wasn't that far off so I still enjoyed the ending. While it's not the best mystery I've read lately I felt it was a good way to escape for a few hours and I will give more in this series a try.

I like this cozy mystery series set at The Flip Side, a pancake house in a small coastal town on the Olympic Peninsula. This is the second book and Marley is settling into life in Wildwood Cove and her relationship with Brett and running the cafe.pancake house left to her by her cousin in the fist book.
Unfortunately someone is harassing Marley and vandalizing The Flip Side and Marley strongly suspects it is an old employee and her nemesis-of-sorts in the last book, Ida Winkler. When Marley goes to talk to Ida, she finds someone has murdered her. Marley is a person-of -interest in the murder and so she works to clear her name so The Flip Side doesn't lose any business and quickly learns that several people in the town had reason to want to eliminate Ida.

The mystery had a few good twists and had me doubting my confidence in the whodunit--something I like in a cozy. Marley is a good character and I like the supporting characters at The Flip Side and within the town. There are tempting descriptions of food and a few recipes included, making this a fun foodie cozy and I look forward to reading more as the series develops. Since this is only the second book, I'd start with the first, The Crepes of Wrath.

Note: I received an e-book ARC from the publisher via NetGalley but I was not compensated in any way for my review and my thoughts and opinions are my own.

I read the March 14th Release, For Whom the Bread Rolls by Sarah Fox last night. This is the second in the west coast based Pancake House Mystery series. Book two starts off a few weeks after main character Marley permanently relocates to run her inherited Pancake house. Plagued by troubles from Ida, the town trouble maker, Marley becomes a suspect when she finds Ida dead. Trying to clear her own name Marley is dealing with untrusting locals, her feelings about love and loss and so much more. Book two is a good summer themed beach read and one you are sure to enjoy!

This was another fun read but darn I hate nosy neighbors who are also mean. Ida was not well liked by nearly everyone. Hey even though someone isn't well liked doesn't mean that they should be murdered but someone decided that she was trouble. Of course there is always the one person that gets caught up in being accused and in these cozy mystery that person wants to clear their name as a suspect and some twisted, funny and scary moments happen and we get to know more of our lovely neighbors secrets. This was a good follow up mystery. There were several mysteries to solve over the course of the book. Marley is now back in Wildwood Cove and in a relationship with Brett. Unfortunately, Ida, a character from book 1 is harassing her due to the arrest of her nephew. Marley tries to visit Ida and finds her dead and thus the investigation begins. Between dealing with being a “person of interest” in Ida’s murder, there’s also the issue of blackmail and illegal dumping to deal with. Marley has her hands full navigating suspects, twists and turns, danger, grumpy employees.

What a wonderful treat it is to return to Washington’s Olympic Peninsula to spend a few days with Marley at The Flip Side pancake house she inherited from her cousin Jimmy. She now lives in the beautiful Victorian home where he and his late wife had lived and where she visited summers when growing up.

A long-ago former employee, fired for stealing, still returns to vandalize the pancake house when it’s closed. Ida is not a teenager, but a woman old enough to know better; she simply hasn’t learned when to let go. As of late, she has been painting comments about Marley on the outside walls and windows. When she began to make hang-up calls every few minutes, Marley takes a walk to try to talk with Ida and come to a truce. Gotta love a place where almost everything is in walking distance!

Nobody answers at Ida’s home, but one of her next-door neighbors suggests knocking on the back door. She goes to the back, where again nobody answers, but there is a garden shed with an open door. Marley finds Ida, but Ida has been murdered. The apparent weapon is an antique lamp base that Ida had stolen from Marley's steps the night before and reported stolen. While waiting on the back porch for the police, Marley sees what looks like a blackmail note, written, she later learns, to a man of questionable ethics who has a second-hand shop in town. While trying to avoid being arrested, Marley is off and running to find out who the killer is and how many people had been blackmailed by Ida, but she annoys the wrong people while trying to find the right bad guy/ gal.

What a great setting for this mystery series, in a thriving community with a friendly pancake house. It isn’t just anyone who could successfully – and happily – remake herself from a legal assistant in Seattle to owner and manager of a popular café with a view of the ocean. I like Marley and how well she has been able to fit into the community. She inherited her cousin’s cat, Flapjack, a wonderful companion, bundle of love and adventure. Brett is the guy Marley had wanted to get the attention of on those long-ago summer visits and now they are dating. The person we learn the most about this time is Ivan, their most excellent chef who usually seems like a rough, tough, grump. They say appearances are deceiving – and getting to know Ivan better has been a unique surprise. I’m looking forward to seeing who we will get to know better next time!

The plot is interesting and includes several twists. There were a couple red herrings I followed. To say the bad guy/ bad gal was a surprise is an understatement, as it tilts the tale upside down. One thing I was surprised at is how Marley continues to ask probing questions from people who clearly didn’t want to hear from her again! Being a very bright young woman, I thought someone with her former legal career would be savvier about safe boundaries. Then again, I’m a granny armchair sleuth who does not have the courage and confidence that a younger woman like Marley has. I do admire her perseverance. The author has designed a heroine who is in so many ways how many readers would like to be. I highly recommend ‘For Whom the Bread Rolls’ to fans of well-written cozy mysteries with plucky female sleuths and cats. It is a fabulous treat to watch this series grow!

From a grateful heart: I received this eBook from NetGalley and this is my honest review.

Synopsis:

From the author of The Crêpes of Wrath comes another decadent cozy mystery. This time, pancake house owner Marley McKinney is tangling with a salty troublemaker . . . and a ravenous killer.

Tourist season’s in full swing in the small seaside town of Wildwood Cove, and Marley McKinney couldn’t be happier. Review:

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. Marley has a big heart and is very willing to help out her friends, whenever they need it. That is why she cannot understand why she would be a person of interest in a murder case. It’s true that she had problems with the deceased but she would never kill her. She has to clear her name before she is sent to prison. With the help of her friends and lots of snooping, she may just solve the crime. I like that her relationship with Brett, her boyfriend, is moving in the right direction. I also enjoyed getting to spend more time with Marley’s friends and employees.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is talented in her descriptive writing and much of the time I felt like I was right there watching all the action taking place and listening to all the conversations taking place around me. I loved the small town setting and the way that everyone knows everybody else’s business.

There are two mysteries to solve in this book. One is who killed Ida and why. The other is who is dumping illegally by the river. There are enough suspects to consider and enough clues to keep even the best armchair detective guessing. I did not figure them out until it was revealed at the end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to read book number three, but I guess I have to wait for the author to write it first.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Alibi for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the second book in the Pancake House Mystery series. I would be happy if there are more books to come. I read the first book, Crepes of Wrath and thought it was great. This was a really good cozy mystery. The main character, Marley, was likable, and the plot made sense. Too many times, I read mystery stories where the motive for murder seems super random, and hard to understand. Wildwood Cove sounds like a great place to live, and the Flip Side Pancake house sounds like a great place to eat. I wish I could visit this town. I found the descriptions of life on the beach very relaxing. It made me wish I had a cute little beach house too.

Marley has decided to stay on in Wildwood Cove and seems to be making a good life for herself. The only problem is someone is vandalizing her business. She discovers that it is Ida Winkler, a cranky older person who blames Marley for putting her nephew in prison. The police are not much help, as they think Ida's vandalism falls under the category of "pranks." Marley goes to Ida's house to confront her, and finds that someone has murdered Ida.

Since Marley found her body, and because of her past history with Ida, Marley is a suspect in the murder. Marley decides to look into Ida's death to help clear her name (and also because she is a snoop who can't let things go). It turns out, Ida was not well liked by her neighbors, and had managed to alienate almost everyone around her. Subplots of meth labs, illegal dumping and blackmail abound. Marley is continuing her romance with Brett from the first book. I love how Ivan steps up and we get to see more of the cook from The Flip Side. He is a great character.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a nice continuation of the series. This is one series that I definitely want to see more of and plan on reading any future books.

FOR WHOM THE BREAD ROLLS by Sarah Fox
The Second Pancake House Mystery

Marley McKinney is pleased with her decision to move to Wildwood Cove. She is slowly making her late cousin's Victorian her own home, managing the successful pancake house, The Flip Side, and developing her relationship with her new boyfriend, all while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Olympic Peninsula. Everything is tainted, however, when Marley and The Flip Side are targeted with vandalism, harassment, and theft. Marley has had enough and, certain that Ida is to blame, goes to confront her. While Marley didn't expect to find Ida repentant, she didn't expect to find her dead either, apparently murdered by the very item stolen from Marley!

This second book in the Pancake House Mystery series finds Marley dealing with more than an antagonistic vandal and murder. Marley's feelings for Brett have intensified and that has her scared. Will she be able to let herself truly love? Love and loss are a major theme here Brett is one of the good guys and Marley will have to figure out if she can risk her heart. Me? I tend to go for the foreboding brooding guy, so yes, I love Ivan, and not just because we share the same surname. I was delighted to learn more about his personal life and now am even more intrigued.

FOR WHOM THE BREAD ROLLS is an entertaining novel with a finely constructed mystery, a beautiful setting filled with complex characters, and two adorable animals. I'm delighted to be back on the Olympic Peninsula, virtually munching on the delicious breakfast treats created by Chef Ivan.

*Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an early copy in exchange for an honest review.*

1.5 stars but I'm feeling generous.

I really wanted to like this because I enjoy books that include food as a main aspect. Unfortunately this was boring and repetitive with flat characters and a slow story.
For the boring and repetitive sides: at least a quarter of the book could've been cut out due to snuggling with her cat, swimming in the ocean, and doing daily activities that had nothing to do with the story and dragged everything out.
Flat characters: I don't know how they were in the first book but no one had an endearing personality. Brett was nothing special and spent half the time with a crease between his eyes and Marley couldn't get over how much she loved her cat and "I'm so frustrated at blah blah." I get it, she's angsty and overwhelmed with boy problems. And that's another thing, it read like a YA so much, I had a hard time believing Marley was in her thirties. As for the rest of the characters none of them were memorable.
The slow story: If you cut out all the filler (see boring and repetitive) it would've read smoother and have the sense of urgency that mysteries need. I didn't care about any of the people or the mystery enough to actually read the last 20% and skimmed it.
The dialogue was super shallow and I didn't crack a smile during the whole thing.
All in all it needed to be shorter and spend less time going through the motions of daily life.

This is the second book in the series. Marley McKinney has moved to Wildwood Cove and is now managing the pancake house. She has moved into her Uncle home not quite believing that she has inherited them. An old nemesis, Ida Winkler is causing problems at the restaurant. The police can do nothing as there is no proof. When Marley finds Ida dead, she becomes a person of interest in the killing. Someone is illegally dumping garbage near the river and Marley becomes involve. Her romance with Brett continues. The separate themes are brought together nicely. I recommend this book.

The mystery was good, but the plot dragged a bit. Marley went swimming in the ocean a lot, but it never really had anything to do with the plot. The pacing would have been a lot better if those parts were cut out since they had nothing to do with the murder or character development.

I really enjoyed For Whom the Bread Rolls. I actually liked it better than the first book in the series. I wasn't as surprised by the big reveal in this one, but it was still a great mystery that was cleverly written. I am looking forward to book #3 in the series!

Another good book

I’m really liking this series. I like the characters and I’m happy with the addition of Bentley. Marley and Brett are adorable and I look forward to reading more of their adventures. The mystery was good and the ending exciting. Recipes are included at the end.

It's the busy summer tourist season in the seaside town of Wildwood Cove, and Marley McKinney is doing brisk business at her pancake house, The Flip Side. Life would be perfect if it weren't for minor disruptions like vandalism to her business and prank phone calls during business hours. Marley has a suspicion the woman behind the trouble is Ida Winkler, a known thief and an unpleasant woman with a grudge against The Flip Side and Marley.

It isn't long before Marley has had enough. When Marley goes to Ida's house to confront her about the trouble she is causing, Marley discovers Ida dead in her garden shed, likely killed with the base of an antique lamp Ida stole from outside Marley's house.

As a person of interest in the crime, Marley is worried that her business will suffer until Ida's murderer is caught. When Marley begins to investigate Ida's death, she learns more is going on in her small town than she imagined. Many people had a grudge against Ida Winkler. Ida's property is unsightly, and Ida's neighbors are not happy about it. One neighbor, Sheryl Haynes, wants to sell her house and move to Florida and believes the state of Ida's property will bring down the value of her house. Another neighbor, Juliette Tran, wants to lease her house for six months while in Australia and believes she can't ask as much on the lease due to the state of Ida's house and property. The bank manager and his wife are acting suspicious. There have been occasions of prowling around Ida's property, both before and after the murder. There are rumors that the junk store owner is fencing stolen goods. People around town are being blackmailed, and most of them suspect Ida Winkler is the blackmailer. In addition, illegal dumping is going on at the river and on a resident's property. Some of the illegal dumping is related to meth lab materials.

Can Marley find Ida's murderer before her business suffers? Is the murder related to the illegal dumping? Marley will have to think fast before the murderer sets his sights on her.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It's a nice cozy mystery with likeable main characters. The story line was easy to follow. I did figure out the identity of the murderer before the end of the book. However, the plot moved nicely, which made for a quick and enjoyable read.

Just as good as the first volume, From Whom the Bread Rolls is the sequel of The Crepes of Wrath by Sarah Fox. I want to thank Random House Alibi for reaching out and allowing me to read this great sequel.

Life is good for Marley McKinney as she settles in Wildwood Cove, a small coastal town, managing the pancake restaurant her cousin left her. Everything is running smoothly, including the relationship wither boyfriend Brett. But calm times are not meant to last. Soon Marley has her world turned upside down when her old employee and nemesis comes back to cause problems. Marley is sure that Ida Winkler is responsible for the damage made to her restaurant, but no proof is found of the fact. Things get more complicated when later, Ida is found dead and Marley is considered the prime suspect. Fearing the ruin of her business, Marley jumps in the murder mystery and soon begins to realise that several people from the small town have a motive to get rid of Ida. Can she clear her name and find out who wants to frame her?

The setting of this novel always gets to me. I’ve lived almost all my life near the ocean and something about small towns near water give me a cosy feeling and a sense of nostalgia. The writing style is still great and it was impossible not to grow addicted to the story right from the beginning. The descriptions of the food and the recipes are still just as tempting as in the first novel. They made me hungry and with the will to actually try and make them!

The story line is great. Easy to follow and a few twists made it a bit more difficult to discover the identity of the killer.

The characters are gaining depth and growing compared to the first novel. I got the feeling that Marley has grown and I could feel her acceptance of her new responsibility but at the same time struggling to believe that all that belongs to her. She’s very real and I absolutely love the way she is. Ida was a good character in the sense of that rivalry and need for revenge. I could have pictured her being around for a bit longer to cause trouble, she brought spice to the story. The secondary characters are very nice and even if the restaurant in itself already brings a lot of colour to the novel, the characters make the light shine through.

A great, addictive cosy-mystery that will leave you hungry for more, literally! Can’t wait to see that comes next for Marley and The Flip Side!

There are times when nothing will suit as well as a mystery and thanks for Ms Fox, I have discovered that I especially enjoy the cozy mystery genre and especially this series.

This book has a lot going for it. First of all, the characters are all so well developed and well...real. They remind me a lot of some of my friends especially as they are animal lovers also. And the setting itself is one that is local to me which adds just another touch to love. And let's not forget Ivan's recipes that are in the back of the book. Yummy!

I do highly recommend this book and this series to any of my readers who enjoy cozy mysteries. They are just perfect to read while sipping a mug of tea.

When I want a laugh, I head over to the cozy mystery section of the library catalogue. The punny titles and cheaply photoshopped covers, usually featuring a cat, are so ridiculous. After scrolling through hundreds of these cheesy titles, I figured there must be something to the schtick and I should give one a try.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to this. It is very professionally written, with good pacing and editing. It read a lot like an Elin Hilderbrand book. The title and cover are not doing it any marketing favors, but maybe those are the dog whitles to this subgenre, idk.

If you ever wanted Murder She Wrote to have a crossover episode with Gilmore Girls, this book is for you.

For Whom the Bread Rolls by Sarah Fox is the 2nd book in the Pancake House Mystery series. After her nephew is jailed for murder, Ida Winkler has been harrassing the Flip Side pancake House with painted messages and phone calls, but when Marley goes to confront her, she finds her dead body. An engaging and interesting mystery. I like that Brett and Marley are becoming closer and it is nice to see the friendship and loyalty that Marley shares with her staff. An enjoyable cozy mystery with delicious sounding Pancake House recipes.
