Chance Encounter

Rate this book
T.J. Chance is a wild, uninhibited adventurer. Ally Wheeler is one scared little mouse. But she's determined to change all that, and T.J. is her ticket to a brand-new life. If she can hold her own with this sexy rebel, she can do anything!

No way is Chance going to be responsible for some city girl who wants to dog his heels and have "adventures." Of course, if she's looking for a wild time, he can certainly deliver. And the longer Ally stays in Wyoming, the harder it's going to be for him not to do the wild thing with her....

Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

You can follow Jill here on Goodreads to keep up with new releases, add her books to your shelves, and discover which small town you want to get lost in next.

Grade B-

Chance Encounters is a feel-good romance by one of my favorite contemporary authors, Jill Shalvis. The story doesn't break any new ground, but likeable characters, good dialogue and a sweet romance make this an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

2.5 stars. Didn't know this book was part of a series and I don't know if reading the other 2 would make a difference on my rating. There was nothing special about this book. It's not a horrible book but there was nothing to stimulate my mind as I read

Hahaha. The cover and the fact that it was written ~2001 says it all. Oh the cover, hahah. My ebook has something slightly less "swimming pool advertisement"-esque.

A hit by hit or miss for me author Shalvis. It's the book that always makes me try something by her again. I just love everything about it. Ally is a bit of a grey mouse and push-over. She takes care of all the people in her life, and her family leans heavily on her. Then her boyfriend ends up in jail after stealing old books, she looses her job at the library because her boyfriends stole from them, and she has to move out her appartement. So Ally decides that enough is enough, and heads out to Wyoming to work at her aunts adventure/nature/sports park, looking for adventure. Which she finds in the arms of Chance, the parks bossman.

He thinks she shouldn't be anywhere near the park, because, she's a fragile little librarian, but Ally is determined to prove her worth. And she totally does. I love to see her come to her own, stand up for herself and enjoy life. She has this delicious joy de vivre over her. I liked Chance well enough too, and it was good to see him open up, although I always wish it happened sooner.

But both shine most when they are together, they have great chemistry. And steamy sexytimes :)

The side-characters are really cool too, and the non-romance plots aren't boring. So win-win all around :)

Book # 3 in the Men of Chance trilogy

4 Stars! ~ Ally's always been the one to lean on in her family. Everyone could count on her. Now suddenly without a job, her apartment building sold, and her boyfriend in jail, Ally realizes just what a wuss she's been. So when her cousin Lucy offers her the job of managing her resort while she recouperates in traction from a nasty leg break, Ally runs off to the wilds of Wyoming to learn to grasp life fully and have some adventure. T.J. Chance has always lived his life on the edge. From the age of 17 he's been on his own, participating in extreme sports around the world. Which makes him the best mountain manager for Lucy's resort. When Ally shows up to help out, Chance groans that she's just a city girl that he has to babysit. Chance doesn't bargain for Ally's determination to learn it all and her uncanny ability to twist him up in knots.

This was a fun, sexy read. Ally proves to herself that she's far from the wuss and push over that she thought she was. She could say no to her family and have her own adventures. Chance learns that living life to the extreme had taught him to lock up his heart, and that he wasn't very brave at all if he couldn't risk his heart. These two have a chemistry that you'll just love to read, and some pretty hot love scenes. There's one in the woods involving a tree that comes to mind Ms. Shalvis has never disappointed this reader and I'm glad I read about her Man of Chance.

After a terrible ex-boyfriend causes Ally to lose her beloved library job, she is recruited by her hospital bound Aunt to run the family winter resort in Wyoming. The aunt has an ulterior motive and really wants to match-make Ally with Chance, the man who now works directly under her. Their attraction is immediate, but neither think the other is willing to make a true relationship work.

An early work by Shalvis (2001), it is a little light on the character building that oozes out of her more recent novels. Still a pleasant read.
