Better Love

Maybe that old song got it right.

Maybe love can be better the second time around.

When one of my wingmen needs help, I'll do anything for him, including calling in a favor with the one person I swore I'd never speak to again.

Not after I walked away from that life five years ago and ditched the trappings of my success. The keyword being trap.

I left it all behind.

Including her.

Now the ambitious, brilliant, talented, and undeniably beautiful Roslyn Porter is back in my life. I'm not the same person she knew. I'm trying to be a better man.

***

No man is an island, but Dan Ashland comes close. He's content with his quiet life on Whidbey, a world away from the rat race on the other side of the ferry.

Dan has three great loves in his life: solitude, pizza, and Roslyn Porter.

Better Love is a standalone second chance romance featuring Dan Ashland and the fourth book in the Wingmen series.

4 ~Dan The Pizza Man~ Stars****

(ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review)

Ok, so I'm going to be a total girl here and say that the best thing about this entire book was, hot silver fox, Dan. Yes, the plot and writing style were amazing, I mean this is a Daisy Prescott book after all, and all the secondary characters were funny and engaging. But Dan!!!! Oh My God, Dan!!!!!!

Listen to this; he's a millionaire but doesn't live like one, totally humble, down to earth guy. He rides a skateboard everywhere. Hot body, gorgeous face, funny, sweet, sexy and... he owns a pizza restaurant. What else can we ask for in a fictional boyfriend???

If I loved Daisy Prescott before, I love her even more now for creating such an enchanting character, that is definitely going to the top of my list for favorite male character in a book. And just so everyone is clear, I'm calling dibs on Dan.

Dan Ashland used to live the fast life of Corporate America. Smart and very successful he had it all. All the money he could want and the love of a great woman, who was equally career driven as he was, but Dan was absolutely miserable. One day he woke up and decided that he simply had had enough, so he quit his job, sold his properties and broke the heart of the only woman he had ever love and left, never to look back. He escaped his life and promised to never speak to Roslyn again.

Dan traded his fast paced life for solitude, total privacy, and a pizza restaurant in Whidbey Island, and he has lived a content life there for the past five years. When one of his friends finds himself in some trouble and needs a public relations specialist, Dan decides to break his promise and calls the one that got away, Roslyn Porter, for help.

Roslyn is smart, independent and beautiful. Ever since Dan walked away from her, breaking her heart, she's promise not to ever date a client or fall for a guy ever again. But the moment she sees Dan again, her body's reaction to the silver fox is hard to control, the man has gotten even better looking with time.

Since Roslyn's client is Dan's friend, she has to constantly visit Whidbey Island and interact with Dan, and the more they see each other, the more those buried feelings start to come to life. Dan has changed and with time he has realized that there will never be another woman for him other than Roslyn, but if he thought she was going to make things easy for him and simply fall for his charms, he has another thing coming.

Can these two forget about the past, and learn from their past mistakes to have a better future together? Or will their romance take a back seat again to their careers and different area codes?

Read this wonderful standalone story, and join Dan and Roslyn as they try to give love another chance...

"Silver fox with tattoos and a totally ripped body?"

description

This was my first time reading Daisy Prescott and I can absolutely say it won't be the last. I love a second-chance romance and here we have a couple who are that little bit older, have been-there-done-that and are all the wiser for it.

description

Better Love is simply a wonderful story of soulmates; Dan and Roslyn parted years previously but their rekindled love is filled with fun, honesty and passion. Told from Dan's POV, I loved just how relatable both he and Roslyn were: perhaps because they're roughly my age and, like Dan and Roslyn, my hubs is 8 years older than me.

"I believe a man should be able to tie his own bowtie, dance to a slow song, know the difference between chivalry and chauvinism, and master three different ways to make a woman orgasm."

I shall definitely be checking out Daisy Prescott's back catalogue: if all her work is as easy-reading and enjoyable as Better Love, I'll be a happy girl.

Funny, sexy, charming, and absolutely adorable!! Daisy Prescott is synonymous with romance with heart that has a splash of humor thrown into the mix. In her latest installment to the Wingmen Series, Daisy has turned up the heat and romance factor several degrees when she introduces readers to Dan Ashland, who happens to be one gorgeous silver fox.

#BetterLove

Forget those young golden and dark haired heroes because there is a silver fox that demands your full attention. Dan Ashland is different from your standard wealthy millionaire hero. Instead of fitted suits and ties, Dan traded his former corporate life to a much simpler one. Dan should be content with his life but he is not especially when he broke the heart of the only woman that he loves. So when a friend is in need of a public relations make over, Dan decides to call and ask for help from Roslyn Porter.

Roslyn Porter decides to help Dan’s friend but while helping out she is thrown into a whirlwind with Dan once again. She is afraid that Dan will hurt her again and so she is wary of him but in the end Dan, makes it known to her that he will stop at nothing to make Roslyn his again. Will Dan be able to show Roslyn that this time around he is a better man?

Better Love is a second chance and small town romance that was done right. I absolutely adore everything that Daisy Prescott writes and the story of Dan and Roslyn was refreshing spin on a love story of two individuals who allowed time and distance to make them a better person and in such allowed them to get their second chance at love better. So if you are looking for a romance that is a symphony of heart, laughter, passion, and love then I highly recommend you to read Better Love. As always, Daisy Prescott delivers a story where the writing and characters were an absolute delight.

'Better love next time baby....' - Dr Hook

Is love better the second time around? The first time Roslyn and Dan were together in a relationship the timing was a bit off. They loved each other, had fun together and could probably see a future together. However, when it came to their busy careers and city living lifestyles, they didn't see eye to eye. They both want different things and in the end Dan decides to leave the hustle and bustle and move to Whidbey Island.

Dan loves the slow paced life of living on an island, he owns his own pizza business and still has his finger in the pie of his old job. He has never settled down with another woman, he knows his heart still belongs to Roslyn. It seems that fate is not done with them either. Dan reaches out to Roslyn, in a professional capacity, when one of his acquaintances needs her help. Little did he know that this would be the beginning or perhaps the continuation of something wonderful between them.

Here is the thing about love and relationships with people aged 35+, they have a lot of life experience under their belt and usually have figured out by now what they want. Dan knows he wants Roslyn back and is going to make sure that this time she makes the right choice, him.

This is such a lovely read and I loved that this book is told completely from Dan's POV. It was also so nice to read a story about people aged 35 years and up.

My initial reaction in one long run-on sentence:

It was FANFRICKINGTASTIC, it was everything I wanted it to be. It’s romance with a guy MY AGE and he was sexy and having all the sexy sex with Roslyn who was awesome as well and there was no crazy drama or twentysomething inner monologue and OHMYGOD.

Dan is now known as the "Pizza Man," the semi-reclusive owner of Whidbey Island's best pizza place. However, once upon a time he was the head of a corporate empire devoted to bread. Back in those days, he dated his PR specialist, Roslyn, and probably would have married her if their paths hadn't gone in different directions. At some point, he realized that the corporate world and all his money were doing things to him that he didn't like, so he gave it all up (except his Porsche, and more than enough money to live comfortably) and escaped to Whidbey, where he could be an ordinary guy. Unfortunately, Roslyn hadn't wanted to leave her own life and career behind.

A friend of Dan's needs some PR help, and Dan knows just who to call. After all these years, he's never forgotten Roslyn or gotten over her. But does she feel the same? And will they be able to make this second chance work out?

I skipped straight from the first book in this series to the fourth, which means I missed out on Tom and Hailey's romance and whatever mess happened between Tom and Ashley, as well as Erik and Cari's relationship and whatever Erik did that required Roslyn's PR skills. I missed the info that Erik's book could have provided, but the bits and pieces of Ashley's story told me that I absolutely made the correct decision when I opted to skip Tom's book. I don't care that Tom finally found his one true love, the guy was gross and I can't help but judge Ashley a bit for falling for him (and apparently attacking him with ground beef when he chose someone else over her?).

Anyway, I mostly liked Dan. He was older than the usual contemporary romance hero, in his forties, and fairly comfortable in his own skin. He had a few cavemanish jealousy moments, but for the most part he tried to rein those reactions in, and I appreciated that.

Like the other books in this series, this was first person POV from the hero's perspective, so the heroine's personality and viewpoint didn't come through quite as well. My initial impression of her was of a driven and talented career woman, and the way Dan introduced her to others seemed to agree with that. She worked throughout the book, and although readers didn't really get to see the specifics, she did seem like the sort of person who was not only good at her job but also enjoyed it, despite the occasional annoying client.

I wish Prescott had stuck with that. Unfortunately, partway through, Dan discovered

One of this book's biggest problems was that there wasn't any real conflict. There was the potential for Dan to screw things up with jealousy, but he was (thankfully) a bit more mature now than he'd been when he and Roslyn were first together and better able to manage his emotions. The issue of Roslyn and her career could have made for some good conflict - it was clear that they still had some unresolved issues there - but nothing happened there either.

It wasn't that the conflict over Roslyn's job was resolved, it was just never properly addressed. At one point in the book, Roslyn

It was an okay book overall. Whidbey Island actually felt alive and populated this time around, and Dan and Roslyn were a nice couple. However, I'm beginning to think that Prescott doesn't know how to write and resolve good and believable conflict. There's either no real conflict at all, like in the first book, or the conflict is tepid and ignored by the characters, like in this one.

I didn't think it was possible for Daisy to write a better hero than Gil Morrow or John Day. I was wrong. Holy pizza! Dan is like Gil and John put together with magic sprinkles added. He's had a lot of time to think about what his life should be, and he is finally ready to go for it. He says the loveliest things. Sigh.
Roslyn is pretty great, too. She takes some big risks in this story, but she is strong enough to handle them. And to handle Dan -- in more ways than one.
I loved everything about this book. That includes Daisy's special band of humor. I'm not going to say which of Dan's comments Roslyn calls "the strangest compliment in the history of compliments," but it most definitely is. And I loved getting peeks of several returning characters. This book was so worth the wait.

Better Love is Daisy Prescott’s fourth story in her Wingmen series, and the first of hers that I’ve read. She already has ten plus stories under her belt, now on my TBR . If this story is any indication of the enjoyment I’ll get reading her romances, then I regret not picking them up sooner! With a witty and humorous style, this story just goes to show you that sometimes the second time around is even better than the first.

Daniel Ashford had it all. His business idea and skill for making artisan breads sold to another company for millions leaving him flush with cash and all the trappings of wealth. But in time, jaded by the rat race of making more and more money while being less and less happy, he decided to ditch it all – the fame, the money, the popularity – and the girl, when she couldn’t see a future for them in his new lifestyle. Retiring anonymously to a small island off the coast of Seattle, he uses his money to build a pizza parlour named after his grandfather, and lives in a comfortable home with an ocean view. These days his free time consists of chess games with the local pub owner and solo kayaking around the bay. When a local gets into some trouble and needs a publicity fix, his first instinct is to call Roslyn Porter, public relations guru. She’s his ex-girlfriend, the one he let get away, but she’s also the woman he trusts to handle the problems, just like she helped him handle his growing fame back in the day. When she agrees to take the case, he determinedly puts her out of his mind again, until she shows up on the island and he realizes just how much of a hole her absence left in his heart. He’s a different man than he was five years earlier – laid back and relaxed but no less attracted to Roslyn now than he was then. He wants another chance to prove to her that even with her high powered job and his new simple existence they have the seeds of a strong relationship that can flourish with the right motivation and attention. But will Roslyn be willing to risk giving Dan a second chance, after already experiencing heartbreak when he left her the first time?

What a lovely, heartwarming story! Since it’s told entirely from Dan’s point of view, we get a very good sense of where he’s been, where he is now in his life, and what he wants for his future. He doesn’t regret anything about the changes he made in his life that led him to his island life , except for losing Roslyn. But in his heart of hearts he knows that at the time he made the decision to break things off, she wasn’t ready to make the same changes that he wanted to make and he didn’t want to push her into something she wasn’t ready for. It’s different now though, five years later. His experiences on the island have shown him that you can have a productive working life and still find time for yourself and your friends. This is what he sincerely hopes he can show Roslyn once she has entered back into his life. He’s not foolish enough to believe that he can change her, but wants her to come to the realization for herself that there is more to life than a career.

Roslyn is cautious at first with Dan, an understandable reaction since he broke her heart already once. But Dan’s sincerity, his openness in revealing his feelings, and his gentle courtship are hard to resist and it’s not long before they end up in bed together. But while the love scenes are pretty steamy, they are balanced out with the time the couple spends talking, going on fun dates, and just being together without any expectations. It’s a lovely, believable romance.

This story has the hallmarks of a ‘small town’ romance (on an island) with an eclectic cast of secondary characters whom Dan is happy to be friends with, while at the same time showing the bustle of the city of Seattle where Roslyn lives and works. I liked the contrast of these scenes and their lifestyles, even as it becomes clear that Dan hasn’t left all of the city behind (he still loves his Porsche and fine dining and the concert scene) and Roslyn finds herself spending more and more time at Dan’s peaceful home. The compromise needed to build a life together is in the works and it’s only a matter of time before they get to their happy ending. This is a lighthearted romance, with lots of laughs and a sexy romance between two people who are finally ready to make the leap together.

THIS WAS TOTALLY FROM DAN'S POINT OF VIEW!!!! In case you didn't know, I LOVE books written from the guy's view. There's just something about getting into their head and seeing what makes them tick that I love. So right off, that worked for me :)

Second amazing point about this...Dan is 43. Roslyn is like 36-37. As a woman in her mid40s, it's wonderful to read about people closer to my age that aren't trying to impress everyone they meet or finish college or find a job after graduating. Do I love stories that have those qualities? Sure, but knowing Dan and Roslyn were older and had loved and lost made this so sweet :)

Dan and Roslyn dated about 5 years ago. They broke up when Dan realized the multi-millionaire lifestyle wasn't for him anymore. He wanted simple. Roslyn didn't. She wanted to continue with her career. Did the five years apart change their feelings for one another? Not really. Dan never stopped loving her and when he suggests they try again, she's willing if they go slow.

Watching them rekindle their love was sweet. There were moments where I laughed and others when I swooned. It was awesome!

Even though this is book 4, it can easily be read as a stand alone (I haven't read the previous books). Would reading the others help? Sure, I would have had a better grasp of some of the secondary characters who have already had books, but I did just fine. This just made me want to go back and check them out :)

4.5 Pizza My Heart Stars

This was my first Daisy Prescott novel. I know, I know. You're probably gasping and looking at me like I am crazy. But yes, it was my first. I really really enjoyed this quick read.

I swooned. I smiled. I truly enjoyed this second chance romance. Two grown ups falling in love, flaws and all.
my favorite part might be that they don't just accept who they were as who they want to be, they both strive to be better and healthier.

I loved that Dan was a grown up. He knew himself. He's done the best to become the best man he can be. He saw his mistakes and ran for the woods to keep from drowning in them. He also knew my very favorite word that. I had never seen the word "pulchritude" in a novel until this one.

I loved Roslyn. She was such a powerful woman. She was soft and beautiful, but she was something fierce. I saw bits and pieces of myself that I rarely see in heroines.
I loved the way that Dan saw Roslyn, as a strong and incredibly capable woman worthy of awe.

The hardest part about this book is that it was very clear that I was coming into the middle of a series. There were a lot of characters, history, and places that I felt I should have known about before reading.

Daisy Prescott writes the male POV beautifully. Her Wingmen series shows again and again how she can get inside her characters heads and create thoughts and dialog that is so very realistic and plausible.

Dan Ashland has created a life that most men would kill to have. He owns a successful small business that allows him the freedom and flexibility to enjoy his favorite personal pursuits. He has a core group of close and devoted friends that have taken him into their fold when he decided that was ready to trade big city life for the slower pace of Whidbey. He'd appear to to have it all, but does he?

So what did I love about this book? I loved that Dan was not your typical male main character. He's in his early 40s, never been married, a self made man and sporting enough grey to be considered a silver fox. I loved that he wasn't afraid to dip into an uncomfortable part of his past to help a friend in need. And I loved his attitude about second chances and putting in the effort to right past wrongs.

Dan is the kind of guy who could steal my heart on so many levels. I hope Daisy graces us with more stories about him.

OMG DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3

Dan Asland lives a quiet and content life. He gave up his materialistic life in order for a serene one. Bu along with that he had to give up the love of his life. It hurt his being but he tried moving on. Now, she is back in his life and Dan has resolved to give their love a well deserved second chance.

I cannot describe how fricking AMAZING Dan Ashland is. He is the perfect combination of sweet, sexy and loving. I adored the way he loved Roslyn. The maturity with which Dan handles everything made me love him. He is such a filthy gentleman.

Roslyn was a force to be reckoned with. I loved her sass and fierce spirit. She is the perfect match for our Dan.

This was such a refreshing story. It was stinking sweet and made you heart earn for the kind of love Dan and Roslyn share. I think Dan might just be my favourite Wingmen out of all. (Someone needs to hide me from Tom) ~Sonal

I always love returning to Whidbey Island and this cast of characters. I admit that I went into this not being sure of what to expect out of Dan the Pizza Man, but I was surprised by exactly how intelligent, funny, and swoony that he was. One of the things that I really connected to with Dan was his need to be alone at times to rejuvenate. Introverts unite (nama-stay-away from me is my new motto)! That and his poets soul was pretty much key to loving him. This book was a second chance romance, which are always my favorite, but because these characters were so mature, there really wasn't any drama surrounding their past. I liked how quickly and easily they dealt with their issues. This is a book good for those who love silver foxes, second chances, gentleman, mature characters, and pizza.

J'adore Dan Pizza Man <3

Dan sure isn't bashful, the man just says what's on his mind, “can we take this inside? Before I eff you against this wall and your neighbors get a show through their peepholes?” I loved the relationship Dan had with his stray-sort-of-his cat, “you stay here,” I told the cat. Like most women I knew, she didn’t listen and instead followed behind me." I really loved this book, I loved Dan he was caring and sweet.

No Man is an Island....He Needs His Lady Love

Better Love, Daisy Prescott's fourth installment in her Wingman series, is a touching, humorous and extraordinary character-rich, second chance romance. I say extraordinary because Ms. Prescott takes ordinary and realistic characters and gives the reader such great life messages: friends are the family you choose and the simple, yet special things in life matter - it's good to slow down and enjoy it every once in a while.

Ms. Prescott's specialty is writing the male POV and characters in their 30s and 40s. She captures each character's feelings, humor and relationships so eloquently, as well as the pop culture references from yesterday and today. Add in silly scenarios and you have deeply crafted characters with life experience and lots of witty dialogue. Reading one of Ms. Prescott's stories is like watching my favorite TV series. I love visiting with old and new characters from her books.

Written in the male POV, Better Love is about Dan Ashland - the local owner of Sal's pizza place on Whidbey Island in Washington. He's a bit of an enigma in previous books in this series. He's 43 with salt and pepper hair, has tattoos, skateboards around the island and never talks about himself. The running joke among islanders is that he runs the Pizza Mafia. Dan has a past - one he buried and left behind almost a decade ago. The only person who knows about it is Roslyn. Dan thinks he's buried Roslyn with his past, but he can't help falling for the one that got away years ago.

Dan is unique - he's an "old world" hero in that he's a gentleman. He knows how to treat and respect a lady. He's a quiet man who has a protective streak. Dan notices the little details too. He's such a sweet hero with a passionate nature that comes to the surface when Roslyn is around. He's learned a thing or two in life too - he understands that the simple things in life matter.

I swooned over the old fashioned courting Dan engages in to woo Roslyn, and I loved being back on Whidbey Island with all of the characters that I know and love. Whidbey is a special setting in this series, and Ms. Prescott makes me want to visit there. Additionally, I loved seeing some old favorites from previous books. The dry humor and wit, especially when the Kelso brothers are around, make me smile.

Better Love is more than a story, it's a life adventure. I loved being a part of the ride as Dan teaches Roslyn that's it's important to have a balance between life and work and that being spontaneous (especially when Willie Nelson or Lovers Lane is involved) can be fun. Even though Better Love is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. I encourage you to experience Dan Ashland. He is proof that the gentleman always gets the girl.

BETTER LOVE written by the always impressive Daisy Prescott, is a book that is refreshing, rewarding and oh so romantic!

Daniel Ashland is a deep man, who truly enjoys a pure, simple life surrounded by the beautiful nature of Whidbey Island, Sal's, one of the island's small pizza shops that he proudly owns, many friends and the relief he claimed when he left the corporate world behind. Dan also left behind Roslyn Porter, a big wig in Seattle and a PR genius. Dan and Ros had big potential as a power couple, but Roslyn was not willing to give up her dreams of success in the big city, not even for Dan. When Dan moved back to Whidbey and Roslyn stayed in Seattle, two misunderstood hearts were left to fend for themselves, as life marched on.

Years later, Roslyn was brought back into Dan's life to help Erik Kelso, a Wingman we got to know in Prescott's book ANYTHING BUT LOVE, smooth out some negative publicity that was affecting him surrounding a stunt he pulled. Thrown back together in hilarious circumstances, Dan and Ros are reminded(at moments stubbornly) that the connection that began in a corporate setting was much stronger, sweeter and sexier than they remembered. The chemistry between the two was almost combustible, as Dan vowed to court Ros and win back her heart.

As the story progresses, Dan and Ros act like teenagers all over again, making out in cars, playing jokes on each other, getting to know each other all over again, first on a lighter level, and then much more deeply. Dan's soulful spirit reaches Roslyn's heart much more powerfully than she anticipated it would, catching her off guard, but eventually softening her to his charms. Slow Dancing to a specifically requested song at a wedding might do that to a girl!

BETTER LOVE has it all. A second chance at happily ever after. A 40-something man realizing what he has, and also what he's missing and going for it in the most profound way. A 30-something woman scared of change, but even more afraid of never losing herself to true love. This story features familiar friends who live on Whidbey Island or come back to visit, friends who make a difference in your life, and in turn, appreciate your friendship. This story also features many of the wonderful Whidbey places Daisy Prescott has written about often in her books, and are characters on their own merit, (I need to get to The Dog House Tavern one day,) and love. So Much Love.

BETTER LOVE is wise, humorous, thoughtful, fun, smart, frought with meaning and now, one of my favorite books of all time. Congratulations, Daisy Prescott! BETTER LOVE is BEAUTIFUL.

Daisy Prescott has written her best yet. Better Love is utterly romantic, wildly witty and features one of the best second-chance love stories I’ve ever read. To be able to watch as Dan Ashland rekindle what he threw away all those years ago with Roslyn Porter was nothing less than glorious.

From that first phone call that clearly flustered each of them to the unexpected first encounter after so much time had passed, the pizza man and the publicist knew their hearts never stood a chance. Their flirty yet guarded banter often hid the hurt and pain they both endured when they parted ways. But underneath it all, their love simply could not be denied. It burns brightly on every single page.

I can’t even describe how hard I fell for this book. Written in the male POV, the author beautifully combines smart humor with a tender love that made me swoon. Dan and Ros manage to face their fears head on and although they realize they don’t want to waste another minute not being in each other’s arms, time will tell whether or not they can finally make it work. They are playful and sweet, hungry and passionate. This silver fox could no doubt tame his dragon slayer time and time again and trust me, their sexy as hell trysts were off the charts hot, proving that there is no age limit in satisfying the one true love of your life.

As with the other books in this series, many familiar faces make cameo appearances and the Whidbey regulars add just the right touch. There is a certain magic that continues to entice the reader to want to visit this quirky Island with each new book. The characters are well-written and relatable and you never want to let them go.

I have no doubt that you will adore this book just like I do. You’ll laugh, sigh and after that last line is read, you’ll be grinning like a fool in love.

5 huge stars!!

The fourth book in the Wingmen series, Better Love, is all about second chances both in life and of course in love. Fans of the series will be very familiar with our main character, its Dan the Pizza man, who may or may not be part of the Pizza Mafia (according to everyone's favorite Tom). Readers will finally be getting into Dan's past and its all out as romantic as one can get.

Five years ago, Dan left his life as a successful businessman in corporate America. He sold his business, made tons of money and moved out into the Washington wilds of Whidbey. A man needs to find his peace and what better way than to totally get rid of his old life. But there was one thing he fully regretted leaving behind, the woman he loved. Now in present day Whidby, after five years, he makes a call that restarts something that he shouldn't have ended in the first place. Better Love is all about second chances and finally winning back the one that got away.

Once again, Ms. Prescott takes her readers back to that town of Whidby, home of the lumbersexuals ,confirmed bachelors who have have started falling like timber one by one. Adept at humorous dialogue, fantastic plotlines and wonderful secondary characters, Ms. Prescott makes this place and the people that live there feel real. Dan and Ros' love story was equal parts funny, sweet, erotic and very, very poignant. It was an emotional read but with a lighter tone that balances the book really well. I think Better Love is the best of the bunch (which is very sad for Tom) and will be a tough act to follow! (*cough*Carter*cough*)

**Better Love's plot overlaps Anything but Love but can definitely stand alone**
**All the Wingmen books are told from the men's point of view but I think this works really well for the series*

I've read all of Daisy Prescott's books and Better Love has to be one of my favorites. It's a second chance love story about Dan and Roslyn. The story is told from Dan's POV and you can't help but like him. He's smart, romantic, and driven to getting back the girl he let get away. The story had some smart humor and plenty of romance. I enjoyed this one and found it hard to put down.

This can be a standalone book but I think it goes better with at least reading the last book in the Wingman Series, Anything But Love. If you are looking for a sweet, lighthearted, second chance romance, then this is your book! Highly recommended.

I received this ARC from the author and I happily provided an honest review.

First impressions after (first) reading an ARC graciously provided by the author in exchange for my honest review . . .

Daisy Prescott is a sorceress. A literary word witch who has skillfully and magically created a story with just about every one of my favorite themes.

Better Love is a uniquely mature romance between swoony fortysomething hero Dan and his whip-smart workaholic ex Roslyn. Better Love is a sweet second chance romance with a healthy dose of some major heat (and I'm not just talking about the pizza oven at Sal's). ;)

I adore and admire Prescott's ability to write her male POVs with realism, humor, self confidence and romance. Dan is no exception!

Move over TomCat, the silver fox is my new favorite!
When we met Dan the pizza man and Ros the PR shark in Erik's book I was dying for the backstory. In this book we get the EVERYTHING! This is the best second chance romance I've read in a long time. It's witty, the banter between Dan and Ros is perfect. The sex is hot! I love the cameos from all the Whidbey Islanders. I think the thing I love most about theses books is how relatable the characters are. When I'm reading I want to be there and be friends with these people.

Dan ... he is everything! Everything!

Even more than pizza.

But, not cake ... because, hello, cake!

Well, after Gil, John, Tom and Erik, please meet another Wingmen, and I think he might be my favorite ... le sigh.

Dan the pizza man/Silver Fox, hot AF, making me swoon so many times I lost count, simple and sexy, stubborn and caring, just my kind of guy!

I think I found one of my favorite character/silver fox. The author made an incredible work. This man won me over. He left everything behind him, the fame, the money, and mostly the love of his life Roslyn. Away from all the materialistic life, becoming bitter, he wanted to leave this life he started to hate. Money could buy a lot of things but happiness wasn’t in this book.

5 years later and one favor to the only woman who might hate him, Dan is a happy guy, owner of a pizza place, lonely but free. But with Roslyn in the picture? Maybe it’s time to take a second chance.

The red haired woman that made Dan’s head spin, independent, strong and managing her firm like a champ, wasn’t what she seemed to be anymore. Only Dan could see past her tough exterior, but it’s gonna take a lot of time and willpower to win her back. Roslyn was all that Dan was fearing, and his ultimatum set their fate years ago. Hopelessly in love but too stubborn to admit or to take the first step. I appreciated the fragile and romantic woman who just wanted to be loved.

This story was mature, strong and very heartwarming. I was blindsided by Dan, and I loved how the story was built, explaining how he left his life and he came out that way. He had such charisma, cockiness and a high level of sexiness. Little by little trying to win the love of his life, but with the fear of seeing her slipping through his fingers.

His duet with Roslyn worked in a great way. However, Roslyn character’s left me hanging for more. I felt more connected to Dan. Sometimes it was like she was moved aside, overwritten by Dan’s imposant and stellar presence.

Thanks Daisy for giving us Dan. It was a delightful gift!

This is the story of Dan and Roslyn, and their second chance at love. Daniel Ashland is Whidbey Island’s resident Pizza Man. Dan is 43, a bachelor, a humble millionaire, and the owner of Sal’s Pizza. He has silver in his hair, and rides a skateboard. Roslyn Porter is the one that got away.

Dan was a successful entrepreneur who ended up selling his bread company (I think – I know it had something to do with bread – wasn’t ever completely clear) for a lot (a lot a lot) of money. One day something clicked for Dan. He’d had enough of the money rat race and wanted a simpler life. Roslyn didn’t want that. She loved the city and her job as a successful publicist at a PR firm. Neither one of them was willing to compromise, so they broke up.
“Money doesn’t equal happiness. I was miserable five years ago. Happiness is a state of mind. Being your true self and not trying to please everyone all of the time is a big part of finding happy. My money didn’t make me happy.”
Five years later, one of Dan’s friends needs the help of a publicist. Dan decides to call the best person he knows in the business – Roslyn. From there the lines of communication become open again. One thing leads to another, and they decide to give their relationship another go.
“That’s the plan.” My grin matched hers. “Planned, thoughtful courtship. See if we’re compatible. If we can build a life together.”
“Sounds old-fashioned.”
“Delightfully so…”
Here are some things I liked:

-Their maturity. This is about two mature adults falling back in love. They said what they wanted, and didn’t beat around the bush. They were open and honest. Dan knew what he wanted, knew he wanted to be with Roslyn, and was going to do everything in his power to make it work between the two of them.

-It was funny. Both Roslyn and Dan made me laugh. They were sweet and cute and adorable and all those mushy things together.
“Carry on with what you were doing. I’m going to crawl outside and find a quiet place to die.”

Some things I didn’t like:

-Ironically enough, it was too much smooth sailing. They didn’t really ever have a conflict that they were forced to work through together. The one small conflict I can think of only caused momentary tension in their relationship and was resolved about three pages later. I think they needed to go through some real conflict in order to make the resolution and ending better.

-When Roslyn decided she wanted a simpler life I was really confused. For the majority of the book she said how she loved her life in the city, how she loved her job. Then, what seemed out of nowhere, she was like, Ok, yea, I want a simpler life. Where’s her struggle? Where’s her deliberation? I needed more information about how she came to that conclusion. I know it was told from Dan’s POV, but I was surprised he didn’t question her more about her reasoning behind her decision.

Overall it was a fine book. I just kept waiting for something big to come along, but it never did. Towards the end I was actually kind of bored, and that left me feeling so-so about this one. Apparently I need more conflict in my books.

Grownmance. It’s a term that I have used to describe many of Daisy Prescott’s books and her ability to create a pitch-perfect love story between her characters who just happen to be slightly more seasoned. They are swoony, funny stories that never fail to steal your heart and make you wish that you could live inside them.

Better Love, the 4th book in Daisy’s Wingmen series might just be the perfect grownmance story. This book is a Romance that for me was flawless in every sense. The writing, the characters’ chemistry and the story itself, all combine for a book that I couldn’t put down, or even let go — I have had this book in my possession for at least two weeks and have possibly re-read it 5 times. It is that wonderful of a story and with each reading it gets better and better. Some might call it a book hangover, but I call it captivated.

And then there’s Dan. He is the hero that makes all others look like rank amateurs. But with hindsight on his side and the (second) chance to get it right, he puts the “woo” in swoon and shows us why we love a silver fox. Over and over again, Dan was the gift that kept on giving, he was wise, sexy, sweet with an unwavering level of devotion to his loves — Roslyn, pizza and community (in that exact order)
that was at just poetic.

Better Love is told from Dan’s POV, so while don’t necessarily get in Roslyn’s head, we get to know the strong, fearless woman that can go toe to toe with the Pizza Man. I loved her dearly for not only her strength, but her in moments of vulnerability, which struck such a chord with me. Daisy did an amazing job of bringing this woman to life — you feel like you know Roslyn or perhaps recognize pieces of her.

Dan + Roslyn = LOVE
In their every moment together, you might forget that there is anyone else in the scene because their eyes are only for each other and it is everything.

So yes, I am in love. With this book. With these characters. With Whidbey Island. Seattle. The Pacific Northwest. I love the magic that Daisy Prescott has conjured here and I am willingly under her spell. Enjoy!!

Happy reading!
