Andie King is a rising star at a hot San Francisco start-up. When she discovers the true objectives of her firm’s founders – to use their cutting-edge trading technology to manipulate the markets for their own political gain – she raises the alarm. It’s the right thing to do – except it isn’t – not when one of the most powerful men on the planet has a vested interest in the scheme’s success.

Andie’s enemy, far more motivated and resourceful than the local authorities, wages a sudden and vicious attack, and when the smoke clears, Andie’s meticulously cultivated life is in ruins. Things look bleak until a mysterious ally appears with a possible – but risky – solution.

Desperate for redemption, Andie accepts the challenge. She joins up with a decidedly irregular band of compatriots, and soon discovers people and places she never would have believed existed, as well as untapped strengths within herself – and a second chance at love. As the stakes get raised again and again, Andie and her team go all-in, risking everything to beat a diabolical villain at his own high-tech game.

I am a first time author who writes in the white space between my part-time job as CFO of a small consulting firm, and my full-time job as family manager for my husband, two teenage boys, one very dog-like cat, and two very cat-like dogs. I grew up in Michigan and now live in the SF Bay Area. I'm a fan of every sport except boxing (too violent) and golf (too boring), all things supernatural or unexplained, every animal ever, and equal rights for all.

3 stars. This book was apparently self-published by a local author and was recommended by a friend. Overall, the story of Andie, Becks, and Shane is suspenseful and gripping. A very quick read, but the writing, while good, could use some editing and the story is a little disjointed at times.

In Better Run, first-time author Kat Miller Panos uses alternating third person narration to tell a story that lives up to its title. Andie King is on the fast-track, streaking to the top as an employee of the Silicon Valley based Tradex company. When Andie wakes after accompanying her boss H.L. to a company event with the night before little more than a boozy haze, her troubles begin, and the story takes off. Shifts in character perspective could be smoother in a few instances. But, Panos balances witty dialogue with nice moments of levity to create characters worth rooting for and a story that will keep readers engaged until the end.

Fast -paced is an over used term but this story really is. Andie King has everything on the face of it, rich family, great job, even greater prospects and a friend who has a mega-famous movie star for a brother. But it's only on the face of it and things are about to go very rapidly wrong.
I was pulled along with the story, enjoying the twists and turns and it didn't let up. For me, though, the actions of Andie and her friends were a little bit too larger than life. However this quick-read is thoroughly enjoyable; never-a-dull-moment is an understatement!

This book is so fast-paced and full of suspense it was hard to put down once I got started! The author is knowledgeable about the business world - I learned a few things. And the sub-plots about love, friendship and making a difference in the world made it a rich experience to read. Don't miss the experience of reading this book!!
