Cocaine Castle by Charles Burgess

One man’s revenge on a system that stole his life!

No one ever suspected Knook Barrow would jump in the game; the people he knew respected him for wanting to be the first black college graduate to ever make it out of Houston, Texas’ drug-infested project-housing unit known as Cuney Homes. It wasn’t until a drastic neighborhood sweep by crooked law enforcement agents which landed Knook in the bullpen of the county jail.
Loosing his academic scholarship and getting sentenced to two years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, caused him to lose respect for the system. But the ultimate betrayal of life happens while Knook is gone away.
Back on the streets with a score to settle, Knook no longer wants to take his chemist skills to the classroom; but the streets, to a player, was the place to be.

First time reading this author and I will say that I enjoyed this book. It was sad to see that Knook was arrested on bogus charges due to not snitching and end up in prison for a short stay. He had plans on becoming a doctor in family, however that was put on hold due to loosing his mother and brother. Once Knook is released from prison he changed up the game in order to find out who killed his family. In the end Knook came out on top of what he had planned and ended up marrying his ride-or-die and gong back to school to become the doctor that he wanted to be. Good job Charles (The storyteller)

Knook is King!

I never grow tired of reading this author’s books! This was no different. I didn’t stop reading until I finished in the wee early morning. Reads like cinema and it kept me turning the pages looking for more. The characters played their positions like a game of chess. Some got checked, while others, check mate! Another excellent read.

Great read. It covered love ,betrayal, death, systematic racism, court justice and street justice. What more could you ask for ? Don’t think about it ,it’s a great read .

I've read better

This book should be in the teens to young adults section. It reads like a high school novel that needs more seasoning.

Who would've ever known that wrongfully accusing someone would actually turn them bad. Knook was a good kid with hopes of finally becoming a doctor until some crooked cops decided otherwise. From being wrongfully convicted, to losing two of the people he loved the most, Knook did the thing he said he never would. I loved the relationship he shared with Dinah. She was the true definition of ride or die. LaSonya was doing too much and it only backfired for her. Troto was truly his brothers keeper. Strange Eddie and Dingy D both showed their loyalty as well. As for Mario, Serge, Donnie, and Lil John all got what they deserved. Great read!!!!

I had been waiting on this release for a while and it turned out to be a pretty good read. Initially I wasn't sure what was up with all the details & the background info but it all made sense in the ending. It was a slow read for a little bit then it picked up. I enjoyed this book by Charles. Thank you for sharing your gift with us readers.

Good read. Cocaine Castle was about a young man who was falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. Knook Barrow had plans to become a physician but those plans temporarily changed after he was arrested. This well written book gave some insight on police corruption, the justice system, & the drug world. It also had a great cast of characters & was a good standalone book

Good

Good

I chose the rating that I did because, it had a very slow beginning. So much so that I almost stopped reading it. I did love the ending, because it didn't.........well, if you read it, you'll understand.
