Surefire tips to make him so not into you . . . guaranteed!
Like so many women, Shane Madison prefers to be nice, and hates confrontation. But also like a lot of women, sometimes Shane just wants a guy to hit the road, and fast. The get them to break up with her .
She started honing her techniques after the first guy she dumped—way back in eleventh grade—threw a baseball bat at her car, and since then she’s become a master at getting men to make the first move (in the other direction). She’s even shared her secrets with her girlfriends.
But some men, it turns out, just aren’t made for dumping. And Shane’s kick-him-to-the-curb advice might just come back to kick her in the you-know-what, when she starts dating a gorgeous new guy—who, unbeknownst to her, is out for a little revenge after his last girlfriend took Shane’s advice.
With the same hilarity and fabulous storytelling that made readers fall head over heels for Nice Girls Finish First , Alesia Holliday delivers a delightfully original novel about being true to your heart—even when your heart feels like a traitor.
Everyone is cracking up over the novels of Alesia
“Laugh-out-loud funny with characters that will win your heart!”— New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann
“A hilarious, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting modern romance.”—Susan Wiggs, author of The Ocean Between Us
I had to force myself to finish this. The writing was just awful, there were way too many side notes in parentheses, the dialogue was awful, and there were too many times where something was “so not cool” or “so melodramatic”. We get it, the characters think they’re cool. Everything about it felt forced and like it was trying too hard to be clever.
Then there’s the characters themselves. Every one of them showed poor judgement and none of them had any redeemable qualities. Nothing like this would ever happen in real life because surely no one would be this stupid.
My last complaint was that this book was completely predictable.
Warning: must stop any thinking when reading this book. I really liked Alesia Holliday's American Idle which was a clever, fun, light reads but Seven Ways to Lose Your Lover is beyond silly. Alesia tried too hard in this one to make funny situations and they instead feel forced and make no sense.
Shane operates a sensual boutique, selling body oils, lotions, and lingerie. She's good at it, and ... she's good at dumping men in a way that makes the MAN think it's his idea. Less mess, Less guilt. One day the owner asks a favor- she wants Shane to break up her niece with her current boyfriend, "Awful Ben"." Bit of a problem since Shane has been out of commission at the business of breaking up. The last time out, it bit her in the butt- the friend went back to him- but how can you resist a $5,000 offer? You can't, especially when you want to own your own business one day. After a little arm twisting and back and forth with her friends, she takes the job.
Lizzie, the snotty niece and, of course, THE BITCH, follows Shane's advice to a T- following the 5 C's- cloying, clingy, crazy.... and I can't remember the rest but it works! Awful Ben is history- one snag though. Lizzie calls to celebrate too early, and Ben overhears the conversation with Shane. Yeah, he's pissed at being manipulated in such a fashion and he and a buddy devise a plan to get even.
Naturally, Things don't work out exactly as they plan. Because Shane is the hottest thing ben's seen in a loooong time and sparks are flying!
So that's the send up. It's a simple story really, and nothing we haven't seen in How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, though a tad different. (Shane's doing it to make money, rather than prove a point.)
I'm really not a huge chick lit fan, although I do like them if they're well done. (I was all over Bridget Jones!) However by the time this came along, it all feels hackneyed (gay couple next door and roommate get together every nite for wine and takeout), and for me, feels like it's trying too hard.
I skimmed my way through much of it, with the only good part being when Ben and Shane finally meet up- the set up seems to go on forever.
Sorta fun, but unfortunately too cliched to hit the mark.
This book was okay. Funny. Cute. A girl helps people breakup because one doesn't want to be in the relationship theres some reason they don't want to breakup with the other. So she intervenes. Also she mostly wants to get money to start her own boutique. Well one of her clients ex finds out and tries to get to the bottom. But love happens. Dun dun dun. My compliants with this book was the characters. They were so flat. No past. No future. Just then and there. There was a peek in the past when there was a mention of a death of her mother, but thats all. Also, no in depth thinking or her philosophies. I felt rushed reading this. Mostly cause I wanted to get it over with. But despite all this, I must mention, there were some good scenes. But some also bad, where there was no reason why something happened. It was like, the author was trying to create drama.
I really liked this book. A lot! It was cute, light, fluffy, and an incredibly fast read. I could even see myself reading this one again. Which is rare, outside of handful of books, I don't reread them. That is real books. I reread my pretend books all the time. haha.
I loved how her life was a mess from basically the get-go. It was totally believable. Much more than a lot of books that fall into the same kind of line. We all know those books, "Confessions of a Shopaholic," "The Nanny Diaries," "The Devil Wears Prada," etc. I even liked her sappy ending. Yeah, I'm a huge softy. But we all knew that. Anyway, I am looking forward to my future re-read.
This was a really cute and funny chick lit book! I loved it and I think any other chick lit reader would also. I'd never heard of this author before so I wasn't sure about giving her a try but it was worth it. Good book.
Could an author write more sub-plots into one very quick read? Very little character development, but a fast plot that carries you through (as long as you skim a bit).
