Mitch was never considered what they call being masculine, as a matter of fact, growing up he was rather feminine and was picked on all the time. It had gotten so bad that he even considered committing suicide. Mitch had an older brother but unfortunately his older brother never came to his rescue and for that, Mitch hated him. Mitch had even been raped several times by family members and again, no one was there to protect him. All Mitch ever wanted was to be loved and have someone protect him. Does he find that someone or will that someone turn out to be as bad as his own brother?
In today's culture so many males are told to "man up" without being given any definition or reasoning in regards to what the phrase means. As a woman, I know there's more to manhood than aggression, fighting and scoring lots of women. However, there are few real men teaching our males this lesson. Mitch deserved more out of his younger years than he received and reading how he was treated at his graduation mortified me. Thank God for Ray, his patience and his love because Mitch really needed it. Great story.
The loss of the star was for the grammatical and spelling errors.
It is sad that people judge people on their sexuality and not on the person themselves, this man was so depressed from being picked on that he wanted to commit suicide thankfully he found true love and I'd happy
This was a decent read. My first by this author. The character development was good, but I'm not sure the ending brought it all full circle for me. Also, some of the editing issues were distracting.
This boon was an amazing read. It was so good that I wish it would have been a full novel because I don’t want to put it down and want to know what happens next. Mike Warren is a beyond amazing writer!!
This was a good read it just wasn't long enough. I've never read anything from this author before. My first time but I hope to read some more from him. I hope they be longer. Nice book Mr Warren
It was good for a short story. I’m definitely a fan of Mike Warren. I’ve read a lot of his books. This spice is closed door, but it’s a good little ride.
I wanted to get into this story. Like really wanted to. The idea of journeying with a boy who deals with bullying and sexual identity who eventually finds his way. Nothing like a good coming-of-age story. But the more I dug into this the more that didn’t happen. The depth I was expecting just wasn’t there.
There is a lot of tell and not show in this story. In the first chapter alone we are told that Mitch starts wearing his mom’s clothes at 5. His brother is two years old and doesn’t like him. His mom loses her jobs and they move in with his cousins. He is sexually abused by two of them for the whole summer. I said it in one paragraph but essentially this is what happens. But nothing is shown. Each thought gets a paragraph or two and then it’s on to the next one. The problem with this is that later on this rape scene is extremely important and I had problems identifying with the future scene because this scene was missing.
Usually I like Mike's stories but this one wasn't one of his best works. Being that it's a short story you would think time would be spent proofreading & editing. Unfortunately that was not the case. All of the errors prevented me from enjoying the story. I hope his future publications are better.
I choose this because ; This book took you on a trip with Mitch through his childhood to manhood and for him to find true love after all the bad made me happy and for him and Ray also hopeful.
