Psychic CORE #4

Celeste Files: Poisoned

Rate this book
The walls are infected, the foundation is diseased…this house is poisoned.

CORE agent, Hudson Patterson and his wife, Eden, recently moved into a century-old mini-mansion. But their dream home has become a living nightmare—occupied by a malevolent spirit who will only share the residence with them and their daughter…in exchange for their souls.

Psychic Celeste Kain is four weeks away from giving birth. The last thing she wants to deal with is the dead. But when she realizes an evil presence is terrorizing Eden, she will go to any length to help her sister. Especially when she discovers there isn’t just one ghost in Eden’s house, but many other tortured souls trapped within its infected walls.

To put an end to the haunting, Celeste uses her unique gift to connect with the ghostly residents. But the wicked entity who has been feeding off the other spirits' pain and misery has other plans. It wants Celeste and her unborn child, and imprisons her inside the ghost house. Now powerless, unable to free herself and in labor, Celeste needs to fight to find her way back to her body before the entity can take what it wants…her baby.

I always love everything Kristine Mason writes. But this one? Brilliant! I finished the book yesterday and I'm still reeling. Kristine definitely knows how to tell a story. The characters she writes are so real I find myself wondering how they are doing, how are they handling what happened. I have to keep reminding myself her world is not real. And really, thank God for that!
This story has a short timeline and mostly takes place over the course of one day and almost entirely in the spirit realm. This allows us to really focus on Celeste's ever growing and changing gift. We also get a glimpse of John's growth and acceptance of her world. And we get to witness sibling bonds strengthen as Eden lets go of childhood resentment.
The paranormal elements in this story are creepy but not so fantastic that they are unbelievable. And just when you think it can't get freakier, she really takes it dark. There were several twists that were quite mind blowing that I did not see coming. Quite brilliant twists that show the talent of the author. And pay attention to the end. That last sentence gave me the chills.

What an epic ghost story this was. The author changed things up a bit in this one and Celeste was on her own for most of the book in the spirit world trying to uncover more than a 100 years worth of murders that happened in the house that her sister and brother in law just moved into.

This story was so much more than just about trying to find the malevolent spirit that has been haunting a house for centuries. The poor spirits/people that been trapped there each had their own heart breaking stories of how they came to trapped in the house and getting to go on the journey with Celeste to find out each of those stories kept you captivated and turning the pages.

Celeste is such an interesting character and I've loved all the books in this series. It also great to see how far she and John have come in their relationship and how he now is accepting of what she can do and that their love is what grounds them both in the real and spirit world.

Wow, the 4th book in this series just knocked my socks off! Kristine Mason has a natural ability to get you perfectly in tune to the characters in her books and you can feel exactly what they are feeling. I would definitely advise everyone who reads this to leave the lights on - it was that good. The character development was excellent, keeping in mind that most of this book is written while Celeste is in the spirit world. Even the ghost's personalities were well defined.

Celeste and John go over to her sister and brother-in-laws new house after a mysterious call from them. They feel their dream mansion is haunted and oh-by-the-way - it is. Masterfully done. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves suspense written with genuine love and devotion. Kudos to you Kristine Mason. I will continue to read every single one of your books.

I was given an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Well this one was too over-the-top for me!
Celeste is in her ghost for for most book! I missed all the others: John, Eden, Hudson!
They are all around her while she's unconscious, but it seems that they're the ghosts and the ghost that hunt Eden and Hudson's house are real people!
Was it interesting? Yes, it was, but I prefer the earlier books...

This was the 13th book written by Ms. Mason that I've read and I must admit this is the one that scared me the most. I enjoy Ms. Mason's writing and being offered the book as an ARC in return for an honest review was an honor. If you enjoy good writing, strong story lines and a bit, no a lot, of page turning fright, this is the book for you.

I loved all the characters and that Celeste was on her own most of the time, but she could always feel her family's love and that kept her strong. I don't want to give away any part of the story with release date only 10 days away. You need to go where you buy your books & pre-order now so you can start reading the moment it hits the shelves.

As Ms. Mason says, Judie you picked the ideal baby name. Where do I sign up to name the next baby?

Another great book from Kristine Mason. Have you ever read a book where you feel like you become a part of the story? Well this is one of them! If you like romance, paranormal and suspense then you are going to Love this book.
The Celeste books are all about the spirit world and Celeste learning and growing with her paranormal skills. The character development is good as well as the editing, but the suspense of this book is out of this world. Then to blow your mind this author throws a punch right at the end.
While it is best to read these Celeste books in order you can surely enjoy it as a stand alone. I guarantee after reading any of her books you will want to go back and read all that this author has written.
I was granted an ARC copy for an honest review

The Celeste saga continues! I loved this one! Quick- one day read! It was really intriguing to see the house history woven into the story. Again, there were things I didn't see coming at all, and never even put two and two together until it happened! I really loved how everyone came together in the end. Looking forward to the next!

Kristine Mason NEVER disappoints!!!! Another spine tingling, mind blowing, bone chilling novel!!! She has an amazing knack of making you feel like you are standing in the room with the characters and experience the same feelings that they are (and sometimes that is NOT a good thing lol) - - this story takes place in a very short period of time so you get to know some of the characters(spirits) very well. Your heart races because of the activities that take place in the house and breaks for some of the beings that you meet during this story. And . . . sometimes everything is not quite as it seems. . . .

The house is alive and not every being is friendly - - Celeste tries to help her sister, Eden and her husband Hudson with some unwelcomed guests . . . will she be able to help them. . . will she and her unborn baby be able to survive the battle that they will be facing. Knowing that Eden, John and Hudson are waiting for her to return to them, as well as her unborn baby needing his mother, gives her the strength and the will to fight the evil that is controlling the house and all those trapped inside.

I won't spoil this for you - -you will have to read it and experience it for yourself. I do have to say this storyline really made me want to look under my bed and check my closet.

I received this book in advance for an honest review. If you haven't read Kristine's many other books you should - you really are missing out. She is absolutely the best!!!

Amazing psychic thriller! Book 4 of Celeste's adventures with her psychic ability (really #5 if you go all the way back to the first time we met her in Shadow of Danger - C.O.R.E Shadow Trilogy).

Knocking sounds, the smell of lilacs and missing items prompts Eden to call her sister, Celeste. It turns out that the house has had a much more colorful history than the realtor let on! Over the past hundred years there have been numerous deaths in the house. Each of the souls are imprisoned by the evil living within.

Twists and turns take you through the book. Celeste befriends each of the trapped souls to find the truth about the man causing all of the misery and help free the imprisoned.

Kristine has a way of writing that makes you feel as if you are one of the characters and are in the story with them!

Loved the book! Highly recommend.

Kristine Mason writes some of the best suspense stories I have ever read, whether paranormal or mystery, and I was amazed…again…at her ability to take a ghostly story and make it read like a horror novel.

Celeste is psychic but she kept pretty quiet about it, helping out whenever she could.

Heavily pregnant, Celeste received a call for her sister, Eden, for help.

The gene had skipped Eden and had caused a rift between her and Celeste, but when events began happening at her new home, she felt Celeste was the one to call.

The house Eden and her husband had bought is haunted.

“You chase murderers for a living, I write about them…It’s fitting that we live in a murder house.”

Celeste thought she could handle the ghosts, stay grounded and in the land of the living.

It seems like she is learning more about her abilities by “living’ through new experiences. Could her over confidence in dealing with situation be her undoing? Would she come out of the trance or push her luck one too many times? And this time, her unborn baby’s life is at stake.

Celeste walked in the ghostly world trying to put the pieces together. She talked to the ghosts, but they were so cryptic it was hard to decipher their meaning. The mysterious deaths and the evil presence that resided in the house did not give up their answers easily.

What was HE after?

Her mantra, “the living are more powerful than the dead,” kept her grounded making her believe she could survive the evil surrounding her and release the ghosts from their torment.

Could her over confidence in dealing with the situation be her undoing? Would she come out of the trance or push her luck one too many times?

I love Celeste’s hubby, John. It took a while for them to work out some of the kinks in their marriage, but he is attentive, loving and funny. I can see him waggling his eyebrows as he offers to shave her bikini line.

I love Kristine Mason’s ability to surprise me and roil my emotions. The level of suspense in her writing kept me on pins and needles, afraid that this time Celeste had bitten off more than she could chew.

The characters come alive on the pages, making me feel their pain and suffering, their fear and anger, their sadness and regret. They are not always series and in danger, they have lives us normal people can relate to, with all the daily issues and problems that arise. They can be funny and happy, loving and giving, even when dealing with murder and danger.

I’m smiling, teary eyed…

I love the television show Ghost Whisperer with Jennifer Love Hewitt and I can see that she has met her match in Celeste.

I never pass on an opportunity to read one of Kristine Mason’s novels and if you are a suspense and thriller lover like me, I think you will feel the same. I am patiently waiting for the movie/TV world to find her.

Good versus Evil

Did you ever have one of those nightmares you could not shake? Celeste does, she has to find and battle the evil taking over her sisters house. Free the trapped souls, and make it back to her body before she goes into labor. I now remember why I avoid haunted looking houses on Halloween. I have chills running up my spine.
