Sirius Wolves #6

The Beginning

Rate this book
The Winter Circle is on the rise and the most desperate hour for humankind is at hand. Working from the shadows, the dark god Anubis, jealous enemy of the goddess Sirius, is setting years' long plans in motion, a master scheme that will strike home in the heart of Jefferson Pack.

Nate is a survivor. He survived rejection by his father and his pack when he was a child. He survived being alone, kidnapped, starved, and tortured. But the more he recovers, the more he realizes he seems to be developing abilities that surpass those of the Supreme Alphas.

More than that, though, he can't move past the scar of knowing he was responsible for killing Darric, even though the Alpha was resurrected by Orion and Nate was forgiven; he can't let go of his fear that there is something terrible hiding in the many holes in the memories of his childhood.

The Winter Circle strikes, and there is a traitor within the pack, one who means to see the end of all hybrids, including Nate and Kellan's pups. But as all hell breaks loose Nate's greatest fear is not the danger that surrounds him, it’s the danger that hides within him. When Nate’s finds out his true purpose, and terrible secrets are revealed, will love triumph over evil? Or will the secret that Nate carries just be the death of them all?

Bullets and Babies!

Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.

She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.

And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.

Reread January 2019

I'm so glad I reread this series. It's one of my favorites and these four are definitely my favorite MMMM pairing. They all needed each other so much and deserve happiness.

Originally read July 2017

I swear! This author sure does know how to put you through the wringer. Just when you think things will get better, settle down and everyone is happy, shit hits the fan.

In this one, someone from Nate's past comes to visit and his missing years are uncovered. It's not at all what you expect. There's a new traitor, an old one and someone you don't expect. Babies are born, people are wounded and surprises are revealed. See what I mean?? Shit is hitting the fan in spades.

This series has kept me entertained and engaged the entire time. While some books have been better than others, the series as a whole is 5+ stars in my book. I'm almost kind of sad to start book 7 because I know it's the end.

Wooh! This was the best in terms of the plot. So many things happened, and even I was shocked at the ending, the reveal of all the mysteries.

A great addition to the series. I fell in love with the four all over again. My only question, though. When is the next book coming out?????

4.5 star review by The Blogger Girls.

This series is a guilty pleasure for me. I do not read mpreg stories. Like ever, if I can help it. However, this is one of the few stories where I was sucked in by the story and was able to put aside my dislike for it. And, while there was some mpreg in book 1, there really hasn’t been much since then, until now. You must definitely read the previous books and read them in order to be aware of all that has happened to get to this point, although each book does a very good job at bringing you up to speed.

All is just about right at the wolf compound. Marcus has returned, his mates are all recovering from his absence, and Nate and Kellan’s pregnancies are moving right along. But there still remain some loose ends that are being worked on (i.e. Hunter, the Winter Circle, etc.). Add to that a visitor from Nate’s past, and more mystery surrounding him and his upbringing, and the story takes off from there.

This is a wonderful world that has had many ups and downs, twists and turns. It has been a lot of fun to watch the pieces all fall where they may. As has happened before, just when you think the worst, Sirius appears and more pieces are put into play as more of the story unfolds. As I said earlier, Ms. Sue does a wonderful job of reminding the reader of the important details about past events, but it doesn’t ever feel like a major info dump. Just enough to remind you of things you may have forgotten.

This is just a really cute, sweet, though sad and upsetting at times, werewolf story full of love and true mates that don’t fit the normal mode of a mated couple. As with the first grouping of the Supreme Alphas and Aden, this one just works and feels right. There is a lot of love, cuddling and care, with some smexy times here and there, but not much in the way of actual sex. Everything else about the story just takes the place of it and the story wouldn’t feel right with more of those scenes.

So, if you love shifter stories with an mpreg aspect (and even if you don’t love mpreg), I highly recommend you give this series a try.

It has felt like I've been waiting way too long for this next installment in the 'Sirius Wolves' series. Each of the previous five books have kept me completely enthralled and I knew the author wouldn't let me down with 'The Beginning'. There's been so much that has happened with the Supreme Alpha Council of Blaze, Conner, Darric, and Aden, plus Marcus being chosen as alpha (a human, no less) of the Jefferson pack, the largest pack in the US. The betrayals and treachery that has followed throughout each book has kept me riveted. The Winter Circle is still a threat as is the god Anubis.

Marcus has just returned from getting his new legs and is thrust back into more drama and excitement. Kellan is very pregnant and Nate is beginning to show. Nate is also exhibiting some unusual gifts that there seems to be no explanation for until his father shows up out of the blue. Nate's father tells a story about his mother and a goddess named Anuket. Nate doesn't know what to make of all of this and Marcus wants only to protect him.

"Pride, fear, inadequacy all bounced around Marcus’ head. He was human. He didn’t know what he was doing, not really. And now … Nate. He loved Nate with everything in him, but Marcus was a soldier. He knew power, any power, was a target. There were always others who wanted it, and he was very much afraid he wasn’t capable of protecting Nate if someone tried to take it off him, and everything in Marcus told him someone was going to try … and soon."

The excitement seriously ramps up when Nate's father kidnaps Kellan and holds him in exchange for Nate. Nate, Ricoh, and Aden sneak out to rescue Kellan following a vision that Nate has. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to get the answers to Nate's abilities and his missing memories, not to mention Kellan's imminent birth, and what the gods were doing about all of this mess.

I never expected the ending! Such a wonderful way to clear up some questions although I'm pretty sure the author still has more surprises coming. At least, I hope she does. A wonderful addition to the series.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

This is book 6 in a series that has really captured my heart. I devour shifter books. Most that I read I class as lighter fillers that I use to decompress between review books or particularly angsty reads – they tend to be pretty formulaic but I like that about them, it’s comfortable and easy. Sirius Wolves is all that and a whole lot more. Victoria Sue started and has continued a series that has become one of my favourites, she has added a unique twist to the shifter genre and she actually went as far as to kill a main character off – I think the readers have still not fully forgiven her for that nightmare yet.

The Beginning is mostly Nate’s story – some of it we knew but as you come to expect from this series there is a whole lot that we didn’t know – in fact there is a whole lot that Nate didn’t know and that makes everything complicated. Nate is in for a whole lot of heartache in this one as he comes face to face with his past, a past that he doesn’t remember.

This is the second group of four in this series and each man brings something different to the relationship. When Marcus returns home things are not as he expected and all his mates need something different from him. He may be human but he is definitely their alpha and I think that point is made more strongly than ever in this book. I love the way he nurtures his lovers and his pack and though he isn’t a wolf he has the respect of everyone around him.

There are lots of twists and turns once again that you won’t see coming until they are in your face, there are happy times, scary times and times you have to wonder if you are going to get a repeat of a certain event in the second book – but Victoria Sue pulled it out of the bag and this is a superb finish to our latest group of four.

Now to sit patiently and wait who are four new stars of book seven will be…

I do really love this series. It's a unique twist on wolf shifters. Victoria Sue has managed to keep things interesting in each book by revealing a little more about the lexicon of their history and the things that have lead them to the happens of now.

This book is no different. Even more trouble is brought to the doors of Marcus, his mates, and the Supreme Alphas. This time surrounding Nate and his past. And let me say I did not see it coming at first. But I did so enjoy the telling. And the sexy moments between my favorite human Marcus and his mates, Nate, Ricoh, and Kellan.

This was a very paced book with a lot happening and secrets being discovered. The story of Nate's childhood comes to light and things that were done to him. And it's not pretty. Nate has to come to terms with things he thought he knew and things he never imagined. But lucky for him he has the love of three men who support him no matter what.

Luckily most is all resolved at the end of the book. But Victoria Sue sure as hell scared me there near the end. Glad to say she pulled it out and gave me a very nice and well deserved ending to this addition to the series.

My Review ~

The Beginning is the sixth book in the Sirius Wolves series. It is important to read this series in order as the characters and storyline is a continuing arc through all the books. The Beginning is also the final book in the arc encompassing Marcus, Kellan, Nate, and Ricoh's story. And what a story it is!

WOW! Just when I imagine that this series can't get any better, the next book comes out and I am proven wrong (again!).

I'm in love with this series, and books 4-6 especially, mostly due to one character in particular - Marcus. I just love everything about him...his strength, his selflessness, his love for his mates and his pack, how determined he is to do the right thing. I love the developments to his character from the start to finish of this story (I don't want to say too much to give anything away) and I think others who love Marcus will love it too!

This story really focuses on Nate and his past, and what his role in everything is. I LOVE Nate, how he is with Kellan and Ricoh, but especially with Marcus. We really get to learn about his past, his childhood, and the reason for everything that has led up to the present. There are also some lovely steamy moments between the foursome, and I loved the mpreg in this one!

Lot of action, some moments that had me on edge (I can't help but always think back to what she did in book 2!) but mostly it's all resolved by the end of the story, and now I can look forward to the next group of characters and their 3 books. I'm sure that, as with the group from books 1-3, this won't be the last we see Marcus, Kellan, Nate, and Ricoh.

I HIGHLY recommend you start with book 1 in this series, it'll just make everything more meaningful and make sense. And I can't wait for more in this series!

I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Liked it just as much the second time as I did the first time. I think if I had one complaint it would be that there were a few things that I wanted explained more. Other than that this was a really good addition to the series.

***Interesting World***

Note: I have not read the previous five books, and there was a lot I missed because of it. If you have not read the series, don’t start here. This is definitely not a standalone, as there is much worldbuilding you will need to know to best enjoy it.

Marcus is the human alpha of a massive werewolf pack, two and a half thousand strong. He’s also the proud mate to three wolves, Ricoh, Nate, and Kellan, the latter two of whom are pregnant. Unfortunately, there are forces determined to tear apart this happy fourple (my made up term - just go with it).

This is a very complex world, and it’s clear that the author has spent a great deal of time building all the subtle nuances and how her characters function within it. The characters are complex, and navigating a fourple is not an easy task. The author has done a brilliant job with integrating these four very distinct characters into a well-meshed mated group. Kellan absolutely broke my heart, and the casual way in which the secondary cast seemed to dismiss him hacked me off. He was absolutely my favorite of Marcus’s mates. Nate was a curious mix of laid back and take charge, and Ricoh was just flat awesome. His ability to roll with the punches and be precisely what his mates need when they need it was beautiful.

The plot was muddy to me, with all sorts of references to hybrids that I didn’t understand. Next, and it could be because I am not overly familiar with the world, but the main bad guys, this “Winter Circle” didn’t seem to have much play in the book. Rather, it felt to me that the evil forces at play were either offshoots or completely separate from the main Circle, despite the summary stating that they actually are the Winter Circle. I think this is an area in which having read the previous books would help clarify things for me.

In the end, I felt it was okay, and I’m willing to read the rest of the series to get a better understanding of the whole. The author is not American by birth, and it is glaringly clear in mismatched grammar and syntax. Some of the phrasing threw me right out of the book and I would stop to repeat sentences out loud to myself a few times to grasp what she meant. I may come back in time and re-rate this book, but for now it’s three stars.

What I Loved: Marcus! I'm pretty sure he is my favorite character in the series, I pretty much love everything about him. He's strong, loyal and loving, he truly cares about his pack and would do anything to protect them and keep them safe. And let's not forget his love and devotion to his mates. I loved that we got to see Marcus really grow into his role as Alpha and as a mate.

And can I just say, these 4 guys together are smokin'. Very sexy, intimate, they were very well done. Marcus, Nate, Kellan and Ricoh are definitely perfect together.

The story focuses on Nate's childhood and what he had to go through, which, of course, was not good. As he tries to deal with revelations, he has his mates to lean on which is a major plus. A lot happens in this story and some of it left me a bit anxious about where the author might take us, but by the end, I knew it was worth it. And as a reward, we get a pretty great Epilogue which was both satisfying and sweet.

What I Liked: Victoria Sue's ability to develop such a unique world and take on Shifters. The books are all so well written and grip the readers attention even as we have now reached book 6. There obviously is great potential for further books in the series, yet I still felt a sense of closure for these boys and can definitely picture a Happily Ever After!

What I didn't like: the biggest problem I had with the story is that it's not really a standalone and as a person who had read the first 3 books but not the 2 proceeding this one I was a little lost. I was lucky enough to stop and get them, and it helped, but for anyone not familiar with this series I highly recommend you start from book one. There is a lot of world building and character development and it helps to get situated into the story.

All in all, I really enjoyed Sirius Wolves book 6 The Beginning. To the fans of the series, this is a definite must read. For others, I highly recommend The Beginning, but only after you have read previous books in the series.

4 Stars!

OMG!!! This series is getting better and better with every new installment. Damn, thats the best book in the Sirius Wolves series so far! It's so damn full of surprises, twist and turns, action, drama and love. I hardly could put it down, and if I had to I was biting my nails in anticipation to get back to it soon. At a few moments I nearly wanted to push Marcus aside to cuddle and comfort sweet Nate myself, or Kellan, or Ricoh, okay and sometimes Marcus, too, dammit. I love these guys so much by now, I hope the series won't end so soon and we'll get to read more and more of them. For every fan of this series: go get this book!!! And for every one who wants to become a fan of this amazing series: what are you waiting for?!

I am in awe of this series, just when you think you have seen it all in this series, Victoria Sue throws a curve ball and you are left with mouth gaping at the new direction the series has gone! The beginning is one big beautiful curveball that you won't soon forget!

Though Nate has been forgiven for what he did to Darric, he has yet to forgive himself. We learn much more about Nate's past in this one, and believe me, it will break your heart! Can Nate forget the pain of his past and the people in it? Or will the past come back to haunt him in the worst of ways?

This is another slam dunk for Victoria Sue, and I can't give spoilers but I will say that you should hold onto your hat and not assume you know what will happen, because believe me you don't :P!

Nate learns hard lessons in this book, but they just may be worth it! Thanks Victoria, for another wonderful book in a heck of a series!

Four stars!
This was such a good book. I adored getting to see Kellan, Ricoh, Nate, and Marcus again. They had more story that needed telling and this wraps it up nicely. We get to see the answers to many of the questions from the overall story arc and the relationship between Nate, Marcus, Kellan, and Ricoh grow stronger. Ms. Sue writes wonderful stories with intricate plots and I adore all of her books.

Ricoh was content. Especially when Marcus came home and could give him what he needed. Ricoh was strong for Kellan when Kellan needed it the most. The way he showed no fear was just what Kellan needed at that moment. It was so wonderful seeing Ricoh find his place in the mating and pack. Especially to see him put some of his past to rest.

Kellan struggled with reassurance of his place in the pack. He broke my heart when he believed everyone didn’t trust him and didn’t have a place in the pack. It was a struggle to see what happened to him afterwards. He was strong in the face of everything thrown his way. I loved how centered he was by the end of the story. He was so happy you could feel it.

Nate had the most trouble in this story. We learn more about his childhood and where he comes from. His emotions are so clear as you’re reading. My heart broke for him when he realized how painful his past truly was. I would love to know more about what the ramifications of his past mean for him, his mates, and the Supreme Alphas. By the end of the story, you can tell Nate is happy and safe in his place in the world.

Marcus still struggled with his his humanity. His fears kept him from fully accepting his status as Alpha and with his mates. But when he was finally able to be safe in that knowledge you could tell he was settled in his own skin again. His love for his mates was never in question for him. But he also couldn’t fully believe he was worthy in return until the end of the story.

I was shocked at the turn of events with Marcus and Hunter. Plus Nate’s full past was deep and not what I expected. However it answered some questions and made so much sense for Nate. I love how Ms. Sue weaves the story and grabs hold of your attention right from the first page. The story is a quick read but also fast paced. You are pulled in from the start and I couldn’t put the book down until I was done.

Seeing Ricoh, Kellan, Nate and Marcus solidify their bond and get to finally be happy without anything over their heads was wonderful. The epilogue was beautiful. I adored seeing all four of them happy and content and so complete. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens next.

I think this book was aptly named when Victoria Sue called it The Beginning, even if it is the sixth book in a series of seven. It is a beginning, of sorts, with revelations made and twists and turns and betrayals. I loved this book so much and was at the edge of my seat the entire time.

**If you haven’t read the previous five books, you absolutely must before you read this one, because everything ties in together and carries through this book.

By the end of the fifth book it is clear that Nate and Kellan are both carrying pups. How, it’s unclear, as they are not omega, but it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that they are thrilled, along with Marcus and Ricoh. Ricoh, while thrilled, most definitely does not want to be pregnant and is happy to leave it to the other two.

Marcus is doing better. He’s received new legs and while not robotic, they allow him to move with confidence and even run, and he’s happy with that. Of course, he still questions his role as Alpha, but he is settling in and all the wolves trust him.

But then Nate’s father shows up. The man who kicked Nate out of the pack when he was just fourteen years old. What does he want, and why does he want it now? While he claims he’s been searching for Nate the entire time, no one buys it. And with good reason. They’ve been betrayed so many times before, it’s hard to know who to trust.

I was once again blown away by who the traitor was. I didn’t see it coming! I should have. It clicked as the reveal happened, but I was so surprised! Victoria Sue has a way of really burying the information in a way that is logical but in no way blatant. You just have to really put all the clues together, and for that I am grateful.

I cannot say much more without giving away the incredible ending, but I will say that, for now at least, it is a happy ending, and I cannot wait to read the final book in the series. If the way the series has been progressing continues, it’s going to be one incredible story.

Rushed end

I have mostly enjoyed this series, some bits still need editing such as names being wrong sometimes and she 'tells' the reader backstory of the previous books which gets a bit irritating. I do think there could be more 'showing' and less telling but it was the end that let this book down for me as it was so rushed. Without giving away spoilers, the final chapter before the epilogue had risen to a big climax towards the end and I turned the page wanting to see how Marcus dealt with things and what they went through...and it jumps to 3 months later in the epilogue! I was so annoyed, there was so much potential for showing the thoughts, feelings and emotions of what had happened to Marcus, how he felt about it all and so much could have been shown yet wasn't...I felt robbed.

Ok, I can now safely say that Kellan and Nate are both pregnant and Ricoh never wants to be pregnant! Again, so much is going on and the twists and turns just keep you guessing. Turns out Nate has the powers of a Seer. He know something is going to happen just not exactly what. There is more to his childhood that we learn about as his dad shows up and oh he is a very bad man. David, nephew to Hunter is also a very bad man. Hunter redeems himself towards the end of the story when Marcus was attacked and almost dies. I'm not going to say more as you really need to read these books!

My last read of 2018! I was in a bit of a hurry to get this in before the new year, so I may have skimmed a bit, but I don’t think that really affected my rating too much.

It was really interesting, especially towards the end, but these books are getting increasingly repetitive. One to go!
