The Protectors #2

Rough Around the Edges

Rate this book
A dark warrior whose touch was as seductive as it was dangerous . . .

Alex Jamison knew at a glance that Dr. Kristen Helton spelled trouble. The emerald-eyed physician was an outsider, a rich do-gooder he expected to run when things got rough on the mean Miami streets he called home.

Kristen, however, was no quitter and insisted on joining his fight to keep kids out of trouble. But could a woman who'd always played by the rules help a renegade battle the odds and win?

She was his equal in courage and determination, a woman as stubborn as she was beautiful, but could he ask her to share a desperate struggle that risked their future, even their lives?

Terrific

This another great story in this series. She come from the money side of life, he grew up in the neighborhood. He went into the military after getting into trouble. She became a doctor to give back. How can two opposites find and fall in love.

Alejandro, Alex, is ex army, and has opened a youth centre in his old neighbourhood. Kristen is the new doctor at the local free clinic.

They clash, but also spark, and both try to deny their attraction because she's from a privileged part of society, and he's from poverty and instability.

Their trials are interesting, as is the work they do. The secret Alex has isn't much of one, nor is Kristen's reaction to it. That part didn't play true in the book.

It's also a bit too short, but was a good story anyway.

Well the author hit it out of the park with this story.
This is the 2nd book in the protector series. All of the books
have different characters and locations.
As the title suggests the story is about Alejandro (Alex) - a hot ex-military guy, with
a checked past who is trying to turn his life around and escape his past.
The setting is in the inner city of Miami - or Little Havana.
For the heroine we have Kristen who is from Palm Beach Society. She wants to heal people
especially those less fortunate and who really depend on her. Kristen is a doctor in the free
clinic in Alex's neighbourhood.
Of course Alex assumes that Kristen will be like all the other wealthy do gooders and take off
once they relieve their guilt.

I found this story so interesting because of the characters and the slow build to their relationship.
There is also some intrigue that keeps you guessing.
The whole series has been great so far.
Book received for an honest review.

Really good

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Talk about two different worlds colliding! Dr. Kristen from a very wealthy and privileged world. Alex, an ex Army Ranger who grew up in the worst most dangerous neighborhood of Miami. It really made a great story. There is a good balance of romance, intrigue and action.

Kristen is a doctor from a wealthy family with all the right connections who works at a free clinic in a rough Miami neighborhood. She is an outsider and the residents don't trust her or her motives for being there. Alex is an ex Army Ranger from the poor, rough side of Miami who runs a struggling youth center for the neighborhood. When opposites attract it is explosive.

She doesn't quite round out her stories fully. There's convenient bits and leaps that leave you a little lost at times and then every things wrapped up all pretty. It's not bad, but not great either. You gotta accept that there are bits missing.

I struggled getting into this book. For some reason neither the story or the characters connected with me. The writing seemed a bit juvenile as well. It wasn't a bad book, just not one I was able to get lost in. There was nothing that hooked me to become invested in the story line.

This is a decent read. Noting earth shattering, but entertaining and pretty well written. If you like wrong side of the tracks sort of stories, you'll probably appreciate this more.

Two different worlds

They came from two different worlds. She from money and he from the rough side. She wanted to help people and he wanted to help kids in hopes of staying out of trouble. They knew unveiling work but couldn't hide the feelings or attraction and fell in love.

Interesting but slow reading. A woman doctor who comes from a fancy background, money and who works in a clinic on the wrong side of town.

This book isn't anything you haven't read before - rich girl meets bad boy with a heart of gold. But I actually found it rather cute. For a free/ cheap buy it's not too bad at all.

Alex is hot. He grew up troubled, but turned his life around. Kristen is beautiful and privileged, but has a soft spot for the under-privileged. When they meet it's like fire and water. She knows what she wants and has the courage to go for it, if not the street smarts. He has the street smarts and the street-cred to help her, but it may not be enough. She was not only up against the street gang and their nefarious activities, but the people backing those activities. It was a good story with all the loose ends tied into a bow. Keelyn did a nice job, very enjoyable. This book makes me want to read the the entire Protector series. I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this story, Alex and Kristen are both amazing people and the chemistry they share is hot. The story hooked me from beginning to end. They may have come from two different worlds but the connection they share won’t let that stand in their way.

I just love a good romance! This story brought out every raw emotion in me, I felt everything that the author was trying to portray. It shows a complete clash of cultures and classes and how given the right circumstances each can work together.
I love the hidden or not so hidden message in the story, it wasn't just about good verses bad, boy meets girl etc.. It was deeper and more meaningful than that. It was about how they can work things out for the better, I wanted to scream at both Alex and Kristen sometimes and give them a shake not knowing where the author was going with it at times.
Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and am going to suffer with only a few hrs sleep but I had to know what happened as you really couldn't guess which way it was going even right at the end!
I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone that likes a good romance, but beware you might not be able to put it down once you pick it up! I'm definitely going to get the rest of the series and can't wait to read them if this book anything to go by I'll love them.... A great read.

This is the second book I've read by Patricia Keelyn and I received it from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review. This is part of Ms. Keelyn's The Protectors series but can be read as a standalone and has no cliffhangers. I was attracted to the male hero Alejandro from the beginning and drawn into his struggle to keep the teen center open that he had established in the rough neighborhood that he grew up in. The idealistic heroine, Kristen Helton, comes from a privileged Palm Beach background, but is a dedicated doctor working at a clinic located in the same neighborhood as the teen center. I enjoyed the pace of this story and the way the relationship between Kristen and Alex was allowed to build and grow; the secondary characters had depth and added color and nuance to a wonderfully entertaining and satisfying tale of two people letting what is, become more important than what should be.

"I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily reviewed this book and this is my honest review."

Rough Around the Edges is the third book by Patricia Keelyn that I have had the pleasure to read. It is a beautifully written love story that proves love truly has no boundaries. The characters are well developed and the storyline is well written. I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys novels that have a "fairytale" feel to them.

Even though this book is the second book in the Protector series it is a standalone novel. It's not necessary to read "Loving Lindsey", the first book in the series, before enjoying it. Although, you may want to read the first book because it is just as good.

I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. This is my honest review.
I really liked this book. I was already a fan of this series, even though truly they don't crossover at all, so I was looking forward to another one by this author. This book kept me interested because you didn't know the details on Alex until you got much further into the book, which I liked having to figure out a lot of it on my own. Alex and Kristen had this crazy chemistry from the beginning that was nice to see how they kept trying to get around it. I don't want to give much away, but I definitely recommend this book.

While I was reading this book I felt like the author wanted to ideal with two topics between the lines, first the fighting involving street gangs which were eye-opening and mind-blowing how she managed to create a novel around it. The second issue that I noticed that she wanted to talk about was the deference between society classes and race but in the end love between Alejandro (Alex) and Kristen made all worth it.

This book was very nicely done. Very sweet. Didn’t see the ending coming. But loved the way it wrapped everything up. And I got my HEA!
