A plucky city girl. A tough cowboy. Romance in cowboy country. When a crisis cripples the ranch, stern cowboy Jett Maddox is suddenly promoted to foreman. Just in time for the fall cattle drive. No sweat. Except for the new spitfire cook who is way too soft for wild country. City-girl Marlee Donovan knows failure. She’s already on her second career, and her family is sure she’ll fail again. But plucky Marlee packs up her chef’s knives and heads west for a cook’s job on a ranch anyway. She’s ready to prove herself. As Marlee struggles with the hardships of life in the west, Jett finds himself falling for her. And Marlee is drawn to the unexpected soft side of the gruff cowboy. But when tragedy at the ranch escalates, a difficult decision must be made…and Marlee’s stubborn streak could cost her everything. The main characters, Marlee and Jett were very well developed. The Christian aspect to this romance was very uplifting and the storyline was unpredictable and had lots of humorous moments.
Marlee was faced with lots of challenges and proved to herself that she could step up when necessary and was capable of much more with God's help. Love on the Range captured my heart from the first couple of chapters and I couldn't wait to see what was coming next.
I look forward to reading more from Rebecca Nightsong. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a clean, sweet romance.
Fun debut! A contemporary novel that made me feel like I was on vacation at a dude ranch complete with trail rides, a chuck wagon, laughs, and clean romance. The descriptions of the heroine's recipe creations as a chef made my mouth water. I loved that the author had a link to a free recipe and a bonus scene. I feel certain readers of Love Inspired books will enjoy this new author.
I really enjoyed the story. The comparisons between the scenery and food was well done. I look forward to reading more by this author. The characters grew in the story and they lived out their faith in God.
I received a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
This was a pretty good and rather quick read. It's not great, but I did enjoy it. And I think I might could end up liking this author so I'll have to see about getting some more of her books.
Love on the Range, written by Rebecca Nightsong, is the first book I've read by this author and hopefully not the last! I found this book to be a delightful read. Nightsong created an environment that was exciting...who doesn't want to go to a ranch and do a cattle drive?! Marlee is a chef and she comes to the ranch in hopes of being their linecook and becoming successful in the chef/ranch world! Jett, he's just a good looking cowpoke who has the responsibilities of the Paycoach family ranch on his shoulders. They've had to deal with extreme situations and he's the only one available to be working the ranch full time. Jett was my favorite character...what a dreamy guy! I loved how Nightsong was able to weave scripture throughout the book in ways that were encouraging to the situations of the characters, but applicable to the reader too.
For the most part I loved this book. The parts I didn't like referred to Marlee attending Culinary school. There wasn't a definite explanation as to why she decided she wanted to become a Chef. Yes, I understand she wasn't a good accountant, but there wasn't any reason to explain why she thought she would be a successful Chef. The end of the book was confusing...spoiler alert. How could Crazy Hoss be at the ranch with Jett & be at the train when she boarded..? If the Paycoach family lost about 40 head of cattle, that heard had to be small if that was about half. Then the possibility of them losing the ranch too?? Some parts just didn't make sense.
I really loved this Christian romance story. I too have burnt food in a campfire and know it is hard to not do that. Well what it takes is patience, no rushing. My cooking has been with my daughter while she and her husband, and son, and my husband her Dad, were having a wonderful time at the BWCA of Minnesota. (Boundary Water Canoe Area) This the must peaceful place you can go, with no electronics and a good book to lean into for chair, watching the canoes go by. Waving at the other groups. Can you tell I want to go back.
This is my first story from Nightsong. I enjoyed the setting and characters. Jett and Marlee sizzle like bacon on a hot griddle, meaning they have chemistry from the get-go and it's cleanly done! Love on the Range is a sweet short story, just enough to whet my appetite for more from this author!
I was given a copy of this story in electronic form from the author. No review was required. No compensation received.
This was the first book I have read from this author. When I first started reading I wasn’t too sure. By the end the first chapter I was hooked. This story was funny, entertaining, well-written with great characters. It also takes the reader on quite an adventure. I can’t wait to read another one of her stories. I can’t recommend it enough.
I loved this novel! Everything felt authentic and real. I just wished that the majority of the novel wasn't based around a few days. They were out gathering cattle for like 6 weeks. A good part of the novel was based around those few beginning days and then it skipped to the ending of the 6 weeks. There should have been a wider stretch of time. But it was a really good read.
This story was beautifully written and fast paced reading. I enjoyed the humor sprinkled through out the book. Using food descriptions of the landscape was interesting and delightful.
This is the best book that I have read in years. Rebecca Night song just zoomed into first place as my favorite author. I warn you all if you are a softie bring tissues...otherwise be ready for the range of emotions to be yours up and back.
Sweet romance about a chef and a cowboy. The chef is forced on a cattle drive and has no clue how to cook with a dutch oven. No sex, no profanity. Lighthearted and enjoyable with a good storyline. A nice read.
This is a good story with many twists and turns that keeps you reading. The characters were likable and interesting. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will read more of her fun stories.
Just what I needed to get lost in. This read was exceptionally sweet, unexpectedly adventurous, and enjoyable from cover-to-cover. I will be looking forward to more!
I like this short story cause it made m me want to finish it in one dead It's a good Christian read Run It was a truly heart moving story. Missing more to it parts
I literally just read this in like 3 hours and all I have to say is WOW! This book was written so well. The pace was perfect, the humor was great, and the non-cliche romantic scenes were such an awesome touch! I absolutely loved it and have no complaints.
Good read. Waiting for more from author. Have also read next book in series. This website shouldn't require a set number of words to state an opinion. Bad move.
I love this book. I like reading books like this and will read it in a day. It keeps you wanting to know what's gonna happen next so you can't put it down.
