About the author

Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan.
Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'.
Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.)
Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.

Is it unreasonable to desire a friendship like that of Nana and Nana. Finally, Ren is here, and I'm afraid for Nana 2. I pray that God will give her courage. I really want to label this book as queer. Nanas are very in love with one another.

the most explosive installment yet. feelings, so far and high, deep rooted in obsession? in love? run the course of our nana, pitting her in corners that get harder to hide in, harder to hide from. loved the way this one escalated with its complicated romantic trappings.

also, this is the first time when the art for live music sings loud and true, capturing an energy that i miss about concerts. it's been so long since my last live concert.. ㅜㅜ

Review 2019: My thoughts that I gave in 2017 are definitely no different than the thoughts that I have now. Read below to see what I thought.

Gosh it's so good to be back in this world. I definitely missed reading about Nana and Nana! This picks up with the remnants of the affair of volume 3. I won't say who's involved because it's a spoiler. But what I loved about this volume was the fact that Nana K learns more about Nana O. She definitely doesn't understand how much Nana O goes through and how much she's been through. I think that this volume is all about her appreciating her more as a person. I loved it and I can't wait to get into the other volumes.

No, no me importa que digan que las Nanas no son novias, aquí las shippeamos, sí o sí.

En este volumen seguimos la historia donde la dejamos en el número pasado, con Hachi sobreponiéndose a la ruptura con Shōji y, más importante aún, enterándose del pasado de Nana, no solo con Ren, sino de su situación familiar. Me gusta mucho que se profundice en la amistad de las chicas más allá de los detalles simples porque eso no solo da contexto, sino que hace que la relación se sienta por demás real. Nana es un personaje más seco a diferencia de Hachi, pero eso no la hace unidireccional; por el contrario, aquí se nos muestra esa fragilidad que esconde bajo la ropa de Vivienne Westwood, de la misma forma que se nos muestra que Hachi, a pesar de su dulzura aparente, también es alguien muy fuerte siempre dispuesta a luchar por las personas que ama.

Primero que nada nos encontramos con los celos de Hachi por Nana, algo que ni siquiera mostró con Shōji, además de esas luces de intenso lesbianismo en donde la imagina en la cama. Me gusta que se de gradualmente y que nos permita a nosotros como lectores unir los puntos sin que se nos diga nada más, dado que tampoco es necesario: nosotros sabemos que el amor que Hachi siente por Nana es algo único que sobrepasa a cualquier otro sentimiento, finalmente solo ella hace que su corazón lata de esa forma.

Por otra parte, la forma en que se entera de los detalles de la vida de Nana es algo que me causa bastante placer. La autora fue muy buena al mostrar esa confesión en la habitación de infancia de Hachi (ojo, terreno de ella, no de Nana) en donde Nana se permite contarle más acerca de su pasado, específicamente de su madre y su familia, algo que causa gran impacto en ella y en nosotros también como lectores. Este momento de confesión también permite a Hachi abrirse y se nos revela mucho de ambas; por un lado, la forma en cual conviven, pero también el cómo se ven afectadas por el pasado.

No puedo negar que Ren es un personaje que me gusta bastante. ¿Tóxico? No lo negamos, pero complejo a su forma. Ai Yazawa logró con esta pareja hacer que nos interesemos en lo que les sucede desde el primer volumen y esto es algo que no se puede cortar a pesar de saber que la relación los lastima. Sí, justo como una relación tóxica. Esta es la maravilla de su narrativa.

A diferencia del volumen anterior, este lo veo más ligero, pero no por ello malo. Se profundiza más en los detalles de nuestras protagonistas y de su historia conjunta, y aunque el ritmo desciende un poco (para subir al final), esto permite que sea un puente narrativo al siguiente salto. Sin duda, una forma maravillosa de contar una historia.

★ ME GUSTÓ

✓ La escena de Nana observando la ventana de Yasu. Una imagen dice más que mil palabras, ¿no? Solo su expresión lo muestra todo.

✓ Y claro, las expresiones generales de Nana en este volumen valen oro. Es a través del dibujo que conocemos más de ella por la forma en que se desarrolla y esto, acompañado de la narrativa, como complemento, hacen un volumen excelente.

✓ Los momentos lésbicos que no están escondidos pero que no se vuelven centro de la historia. Me gusta que sea lenta, ¿por qué no? Finalmente estamos hablando de la historia de un gran amor, y los grandes amores no siempre tienen que arder hasta extinguirse.

✓ Hablando de este gran amor, ¿podemos notar el paralelismo con las historias contingentes? Sublime, gracias.

“Maybe I'm weird” NO HACHI YOU'RE JUST GAY!! Anyways I am in love with Nana and I just needed everyone to know that. But on a serious note Kyosuke was right and he said everything I was thinking. Junko shouldn't have lectured Hachi like that especially since she had a feeling Shoji was up to no good and didn't even tell her. Everything she said really pissed me off and I was hoping she’d be a little more sympathetic and comfort her friend. Hachi FINALLY finds out about Nana and Ren!! Also, I wanted to punch that little coward Shoji so hard when he said Sachiko was his girlfriend!! I was surprised by Hachi’s response when she said she didn't want a guy like that. I was so proud lol

At volume four I still don't know really where this story is going but nevermind that, I care about the characters so much. Considering I'm still -almost- up to date with shows like Grey's Anatomy, I suppose I might have it in me to eventually catch up with the 17 remaining volumes.
I hadn't gotten so emotionally involved in a manga since my early teens. It's nice, takes me out of my day to day life and yet it's very relatable. Though I'd think it may appeal even more to 16-23 years old..
