Bryce is having kind of a strange day. All he wants to do is turn his fresh ripe tomatoes into marinara sauce, but they seem to have become infested with strange looking spiders. Who knew that spiders would end up tasting so good?
If it screams, squelches, or bleeds, Kristin Dearborn has probably written about it. She revels in comments like “But you look so normal…how do you come up with that stuff?” A life-long New Englander, she aspires to the footsteps of the local masters, Messrs. King and Lovecraft. When not writing or rotting her brain with cheesy horror flicks (preferably creature features!) she can be found scaling rock cliffs or zipping around Vermont on a motorcycle, or gallivanting around the globe.
Oh, I remember! I enjoyed Trinity, and I thought Kristin Dearborn had something new to offer the horror fan of today. She has a distinct voice, a smooth writing style and hey! Someone has to support the female writers in the horror genre...that way maybe we will grow some more.
Anyway, this is a nasty little short story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am just glad that I finished my lunch before reading it.
Recommended to fans of ewwwwwwwy sorts of horror shorts!
I don’t read a lot of short stories—most leave me wondering what I’ve just read--and I’d rather spend my time immersed in something meaty, like a novel. But for horror fans, this is a very enjoyable old-school horror read. This would be very much at home on shows like The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Alfred Hitchcock, although it’s a bit too dark for TV. Hard to say too much without drifting into spoiler territory. Short and very distilled, it’s one of those rare stories that implies a novel without the length.
Saw a fellow horror fan reader "Char's horror corner" Review this as it was in the uk for 77p I felt why not.. Glad I did! What a crazy little tale! Its only 14 pages on your Kobo kindle ect... But so worth it who would think anything could be soo cheesey... in a really good way, I can tell you now it will get you thinking about cheese in a really strange way.
This one gets weird even for Dearborn, with a darkly comedic, I daresay playful tone, with a sharp swerve straight into Bizarro territory. Say, is anyone else hungry?
