A Patch of Cotton

5 Star Review by K.C.Finn for Reader's Favorite A Patch of Cotton is a modern history drama novel by Linda Dunlap Hulen with Christian fiction themes. The central heroine of the tale is Maggie Roberts, a small town girl of the 1960's, who feels the call of the bright lights of New York City. An incredibly talented teenage pianist, Maggie almost gives up her musical dreams when she meets Jake Martin, a young man with simple dreams and a fervent love for God. The story tracks these youngsters on their separate paths, from fame to farms and from the big city to the town that always calls Maggie home. Will her journey teach her what's really important in life, and will Jake still be there for her if she returns? Fans of Christian fiction are certain to love A Patch of Cotton, as are passionate residents of big sky states and beautiful rural settings.Maggie's rise to fame and fortune has all the false glamour and enticements that have tempted young people through the ages, and she is a relatable character with well developed strengths and flaws. Jake is a strong and attractive male lead who matches Maggie well, and it is satisfying to read a romance which really took work to achieve rather than an insta-love situation. Linda Dunlap Hulen writes with realistic dialogue and excellent clarity, producing a cozy, easy to read novel that perfectly suits her target readers. Overall, A Patch of Cotton was a breeze of a read that had plenty of sweet, romantic moments.
