Too Many Rock Stars

Rate this book
I don’t date rockers. Don’t sleep with them. Don’t even swap spit. I’ve been working as a band booker at Trouble -- the coolest indie rock club in town -- long enough to know what a bunch of screwed up, egotistical jerks they are. Some of them might seem okay at first but that’s just because they've learnt to hide it better than others.

That would be fine if Razer didn't keep popping into my office, making himself so annoyingly attractive. And he only gets more insistent when the leather-clad Alex hits town.

While they compete for both rock glory and my affection, I get stuck in the middle but all I really want to do is save my job and the club.

That’s the trouble with my life: too many rock stars.

Candy J. Starr

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

Too Many Rock Stars is book #1 in the Access All Areas series, I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

Ok I’m not in the mood to mince my words so I’m just gonna come straight out with it….

This book was rubbish!!!

The plot is thin to say the least and the writings not great either. Violets a man hater but when we find out what the great big thing was that made her that way it was a monumental let down!!

I limped through this book and finished it purely because I had committed to read it.

The book is told from three pov’s Violet, Razor and Alex. Alex comes across as a complete douche from the first word and Violet is a bitch! This is a really dodgy love triangle because it’s obvious from the start who she’s going to pick.

I’ve read another book by this author which I loved, but honestly I’m not entirely convinced they were actually written by the same author.

Normally I would try to find some positive spin on how much I disliked this book but I just can’t find anything good to say about it.

I’m incredibly disappointed by this book and if id paid for it I would be asking for my money back!

Too Many Rock Stars gets 2 stars from me.

I've read pretty much all of Candy's other books and I quite enjoyed the stories.. This one.. I can't say the same. I was looking forward to reading it but once I started I quickly realized it was not going to be the same caliber as her previous books. Violet is wisy washy and pretty bitchy. Even when being helped shes still bitching. Raze, could be ok, but I stopped reading the book about 20% of the way thru so I dont know if he stays that way. Alex just seems like a straight up douche from the get go. No thanks. The whole book was just reading like a bad high school love triangle and I wasn't into it. I just could not bring myself to read any more of this unfortunate book. :/

Wow, this sure was something. Throughout the book, we’re supposed to believe that Violet is so awesome that these two men desperately want her, even when she repeatedly (and aggressively) tells them no - she doesn’t date rock stars. The men who can’t take no for an answer then decide that the way to win her heart is for Violet to be the prize in a battle of the bands competition. That’s just what everyone who says no wants - being made to feel like a chew toy being slobbered over by two dumb dogs. I didn’t care for any one, and felt that the term Rock Star was used rather loosely in relation to any of the characters. The one star is for me for finishing this book.

Razer had a plan to get Violet to take a chance with the chemistry between them, he had not counted on another rocker named Alex to interfere. Violet vowed never to get involved with another rocker, but both Razer and Alex have made their intent evident. When she becomes a prize in order to save the club, she realizes her heart is becoming involved.

Interesting read Violet was not overly warm to Razer but she has her reasons. I liked the dynamic of Razer and Alex having to win Violet. Overall good story.

The story line had promise. A girl who manages band playing in a club that is going under. Two guys that are both into her and you get to see their POVs. but that being said I really couldn't connect to the characters in this book. I'm not a big fan of love triangles but this one didn't bother me since I didn't love either of the guys. The book just ended and even with a preview to the next book I don't think I will continue.

This did not work for me. I like when I see the characters first meet. These two characters already know each other. You may love it. I just can't connect if there is a relationship there and I did not see initially how it all started.

I absolutely loved this book! I got pulled in on the first page and by the time I was 20% done I was hooked. Could not put it down! It was funny and sweet and very moving. There was a lot going on and it kept you moving constantly. Loved it. (team Razor all the way)

One girl caught between two hot rock stars.

Violet knew rock stars, which is precisely why she always strived to stay away from them, always putting them in their place whenever they got too near. But it’s kind of hard when you’re a band booker for a night club. “If I had one problem in this life, it was too many rock stars.”

For Razer, Violet’s always been the one for him. If she’d just give him a chance, he’d show her how good they’d be together and how well he’d treat her with breakfasts in bed, foot massages, and never ever waking her from her nap. If only she didn’t have this prejudice against rock stars. Then comes Alex, who only wanted to sweet talk the bank booker into a gig until he sees the sensual Violet in her skimpy shorts.

The rivalry. Razer and Alex are like two pit balls aiming for the same target: Violet.

The competition. Razer and Alex are suddenly thrust into a battle of the bands to prove who’s the better rocker. Whoever brings in the biggest crowd wins. The prize? A date with Violet. Oooh!

Story is full of hot and raging testosterone. It was a battle of the alpha males, even though both were sincere and sweet in their own way. The thing about alpha males though is that they can get pretty tiring fast. The entire pissing contest gets old and boring quick. And that’s what happened in this battle for Violet’s heart. There wasn’t really much fight in it though. In fact, most of it lagged considerably with all the banalities of the behind-the-scenes stuff, like advertisements and promos and such.

Razer’s intentions seemed sweet and honorable. I liked Violet’s level-headedness and efficient demeanor. She’s plain and simple, but yet gorgeous and sexy, which is what attracts the guys.

Even though I was bored with most of it, I still wanted to find out who won. I mean, the whole “girl caught between two guys” is an interesting story line. She likes both but doesn’t want to hurt neither one. She wants to choose neither, but someone has to win this competition. But who will win?

And one of the best things about this story is that it didn’t get dirty. Contrary to what the cover may have you believe, there is no ménage à trois .

Overall, this was a simple and clean story. There was a little too much lag, a few too many typos, and the ending wasn’t as climatic as I thought it would be.

I hate DNFing books, but this one was not a good one for me. These were grown adults trying to “win” Violets love with a competition that she’s expressed that she wanted nothing to do with. Don’t even get me started on her terrible boss. He has this silly rule “don’t date my rockstars” but then when he gets his club into debt he tells Violet to go out and dare (which is whoever can bring in the biggest crowd wins a date with Violet). Then the boss proceeded to tell her to wear shorter skirts and wear more makeup “do what you women have to do to get men but no s*x” like what???? I did’nt finish the book so who knows what happens in the end. Stopped reading at 30% and skimmed to 50% and they still were fighting like to little boys fighting over the shiny new toy.

3 1/2 Stars

I've read many books by this author because I'm a sucker for a rock star and I have always been a fan of Ms. Starr. Well, in this book you get two rockers along with the workaholic booking manager for the club. Both long time lead singer Razor and the new hottie rocker Alex are vying for Violet's affection. The one rule Violet has is no messing around with the rockers.

Violet came across as a b*tch which was hard to swallow. I really did love Razor though. Even though this book didn't really hit the mark for me because of the fan I am, I will definitely be waiting for the next book from this author.

I wasn’t to crazy about this book or this story so I’m not going to bother with the other books in the series. Violet is beautiful and sexy but she’s also
A very hard worker. She has rules about dating rock stars which is nuts because she practically lives at this dive. Razer and Alex are the two rockers vying for her attention. The stakes are high to see who wins, this story started out well but bored me to death around the middle. This story just kept bouncing from one to the other and not in a good way. It was talk talk talk and zero action. I finished it because I can’t not leave things unfinished. I gave it three stars and I was generous, I don’t recommend it.

I requested to reread this novel as a Beta reader and enjoyed it even more. The way the main characters spoke to the reader as well as each other helped to develop their personalities better. The subtle love story was fun yet heartfelt and well worth the read. Plan on reading next book in the series as the story continues. It does end with a bit of a cliffhanger.

A couple of years ago, I read Rock Revenge (book 4 in this series) but never went back and read the books that had come before it. I wanted to love Violet but it just never happened. She has these two men completely infatuated with her but I could never quite put my finger on why. I think she's supposed to come off as prickly but instead, she comes off as awful and mean most of the time.

The best part of this story is Razer. He might be a rockstar but he's also a big, soft teddy bear and I constantly thought that he could do so much better than Violet. I never quite understood what he loved so much about her and when the story ended, I was convinced that he's a glutton for punishment who didn't recognize abusive behavior when it happens.

I usually love books by this author but this one just didn't connect with me.

This book is a complete story without cliffhangers in the Access All Areas series.

Review:

A battle of the bands winner takes all including the girl. Violet books the bands at the club, Trouble. She loves her job and she is very good at it. She keeps things strictly business. She has no interest in getting involved with any of these guys. Razer, however keeps trying to break down her walls. He is crazy about her, and one day she is going to figure out that there is really something between the two of them.
The new guy at the club is also interested in Violet. Alex is the Rocker Badboy. All hot and sexy with a dash of arrogance.

This book takes you behind the scenes of a rock club. I enjoyed the story, but at the end I felt like I was left with many unanswered questions. Maybe the author may do a sequel or maybe we have to decide on our own what happens to the characters in this story.

As a reader obsessed with rock star romances I was drawn to this first installment in the Access All Areas series and its promise of a sexy love triangle. With characters larger than life and a battle of the bands to win a strong-willed woman's heart this story succeeded on some levels while in other ways I was left wanting.

Violet learned her lesson when it comes to dating rock stars and she's sworn to never do it again. Now all she cares about is work and trying to keep the club she works for from going bankrupt. She doesn't have time to be the object of not only one, but two, cocky rock star's attentions as she becomes the prize in their musical contest. Violet's a tough nut to crack which makes it hard to connect with her. Being so devoted to work leaves little time getting to know her outside her business persona. What bits of her readers do see show a woman who's a bit mean and a bit unlikable.

Rock star Razer has been drawn to Violet for quite some time but been repeatedly shut down by her. With another sexy rocker showing up on the scene he knows he'll have to make a big play for her if he finally wants her which pits him against the arrogant Alex for the chance to go out with Violet on a date. Razer is the typical sexy and cocky rock star, but beneath that exterior lies a true romantic who's sweet and charming and the highlight of the story for me. Alex lived up to all the rock star stereotypes which made him a bit unlikable as there were no redeeming qualities to him and I felt his attention towards Violet was just to annoy Razer. His past though, hinted at being somewhat bad, is the only intriguing thing about him and is unfortunately not dealt with any further in this story.

With the premise of this story hinting at a steamy love triangle it was very disappointing that one didn't really exist. With her negative attitude towards rock stars interludes were halted before they barely started which left readers with lots of foreplay and sexual tension. The overall flow of the story was good with a few humorous moments that made me smile, but the ending came out of nowhere and felt a bit rushed. On a whole, while this story had great promise, the execution didn't quite live up to that as the heroine left much to be desired and Alex felt like mere window dressing. While there was much to dim my enjoyment of this story, there was one big bright spot courtesy of Razer and his tough guy exterior with his sweet center that left me wondering why he wanted Violet so much. Though not every aspect of this book worked for me, it's characters like Razer that have me wanting to revisit this rock star world with the next installment.

Violet manages the bookings for the bands at a club. She has one rule she lives by: No Dating Rock Stars. Razer has been after her for a while. He flirts and tries to get close to her, but she keeps pushing him away. Alex is the new guy who wants to be booked at the club and seems interested in Violet as well. When the club has money trouble, the two guys decide to compete in a contest for a date with Violet PLUS drum up excitement for the club and prove who the best performer is. Will either one win Violet’s heart or will she keep true to her rule.

“’Your boyfriends are getting a bit snarly with each other out there. Again. I've dealt with them out for the moment but you need to get this sorted out.’

‘There's nothing to sort.’

She laughed.

‘Deny it all you want. You have two hot guys chasing after you. Pick one.’

‘I pick neither but they won't believe me. Too many rock stars, that's my problem.’

She snorted again. ‘There's only two of them.’

‘Two is way too many. The ideal number of rock stars is zero.’”

This is a cute, angsty story with rockers. I have a thing for rockers. How could Violet think that zero rockers is a good thing? There isn’t a ton of heat in this book. As soon as anything gets going, Violet has her hang ups or gets interrupted. There is a little bit of a love triangle going on that keeps you guessing about who she will choose or will win the contest and does she truly want anyone to win. I felt torn most of the book because I wanted Violet to get in touch with her feelings instead of pushing them down and feeling guilted to throw herself into her work.

Since this is book one in this series, I assume we will get more books about the characters that were introduced in this story. I liked Carlie and the others enough that I would like to read more about them. It will be fun to see where their lives take us and if we meet any more cute rock stars.

I would like to start this review by thanking the author and the Goodreads New Adult Book Club Read It Review It Programme for allowing me to read this book.

This book told the story of Violet a band booker for a club called Trouble who's owner is facing money trouble.

I enjoyed the multiple pov in this book because it was nice getting the story from the point of view of the three main characters Violet, Rezza (Rock star) and Alex (Rock star) and I thought the book as a whole was a good start to what will be a good series. However I am unsure whether I will be reading the other books in the series as they come.

The authors writing was good and made me want to read the book but the plot was slightly slow and clunky at times which meant that there were times when I felt like I didn't want to finish it, however my own determination made me finish the book so I could give a full and frank review.

The characters were well developed and multi-layered but they weren't so well developed enough that there was no where for them to go in future books. I loved Violet and Rezza particularly the Romance development between them but I didn't like Alex or Chuck (the Clubs owner) at all. Particularly Chuck as he was such a douche and didn't careless about the club.

I liked the idea of the contest between Rezza's band and Alex's band but not the fact that it was decided that a date with Violet would be the prize especially that the fact that both Rezza and Alex pressured her so much to agree to it.

The main things from this book that will mean that I may want to read the other books in the series are:
. to see how good Alex is at running the club as well as finding out more about his past.
. to find out more about Carlie's, the bar manager background and why she comes to be working at
the bar
. how Violet and Rezza's relationship develops as well as finding out more about each of their
backgrounds, particularly how Violet comes to be working at the club.

Welcome to The Trouble. When you step through these doors you can rock out with hot, sensual, indie rock stars. Who knows you may get lucky.

Violet lives and breaths work. She schedules all of the rock bands for The Trouble. Even though around enough panty melting alpha rock stars she sticks to her rules. NO dating a rock star. Razer frequently performs at the club and has his eye on Violet. He will stop at nothing to convince her for a date. Enters Alex, the mysterious rocker with a past no one seems to know about. As soon as he sees Violet he knows he is the one for her. Can either on of them convince her to break her rule. The anti is upped and the competition is started.

The characters in this story will draw you in. Violet is a sassy one. Throughout the story she will have you laughing and then at times screaming at her. She keeps it interesting. Two alpha males one who has been around and the other new in town. Both these rockers are sexy as sin. You will have to pick which one you want to win and then see if it is him in the end. There were times that I was suspicious about somethings about Alex. I hope we get to see more of his back story in the next book.

As the story unfold is is mainly about these three characters but some of the secondary characters will peak your interest. Most of the story was a build up Alex and Razer competing for Violet. When she does choose a man the ending seemed a little rushed. There were some things that were vague that I hope get answers in the next book. The ending was not a cliffhanger for Violet and her man but did lead with a WTH moment with a secondary character. Therefore I am sure the next book will be about that.

🎼🎶🎵🎤 Too Many Rockstars is a problem, why??? 🎶🎤🎵🎶

Since discovering Candy J Starr’s first book, I have been an avid reader, and I believe she is a hugely talented yet underrated voice in the world of Rockstar books.

I loved Violet’s book the first time, and have adored reading it in it’s new clothes. She has a softer edge this time round, and I admire her character of perceived strength that fiercely guards a rarely seen vulnerability. She is all about the music, and loves the opportunity to book talented yet undiscovered bands at the club she works in.

Alex has a past that is only barely hinted at. He’s super talented, super gorgeous and carefully plans every facet that he presents to people both publicly and privately. Nothing is done on a whim or left to chance, and I wonder if he was always been this way. He is beautifully and sexily written, but I still can’t help but be drawn to the rocker who is every bit as talented, but an opposite in all ways.

Razer has to be up there as the type of rocker I just love. He’s almost the antithesis to the usual stereotype of inflated ego, groupie shagging pretty boy. He lives and breathes the music, and the way he explains to Alex how music makes the people feel when they listen to it, made me feel that Candy Starr has looked directly into my soul as she wrote those words for his character. Music is life. It’s my saviour, my energy and also the calming influence that I need.

The chemistry between Violet and Razer was as easy was it was intense and fun, whereas I always knew that everything about Alex was weighed and calculated. Too Many Rockstars is a problem that many of us would envy, and I loved reading about Violet’s ‘problem’. This is a well balanced rocker book that I recommend as time and money well spent. 4.5 stars.

Violet doesn’t date or sleep with rockers. She made that mistake once and it almost cost her her job as a band booker for Trouble and she is not about to make that mistake again. Trouble is the coolest indie rock club in town. If you want to become known, you need to get Violet to book your band.

Razer has been attracted to Violet for a long while but she just isn’t interested. Even with the cold shoulder he receives, he isn’t going to give up on her. Razer is determined to melt her cold heart.

New to town and hearing that Violet is the person to see, Alex visits the club. It wasn’t his intention to want to date her, but one look at her and he just had to have her.

Trouble is in danger of closing it's doors because the owner owes too much in taxes. If they can’t bring in more revenue, he will have to sell. With both Razer and Alex after Violet's attention a battle of the bands comes about. The one who can bring in the most, gets a date with Violet. Will she give in and agree to this competition to save Trouble?

I have read other books by this author and was excited to read this one. I didn’t know anything about it prior to starting it. I guess the title should have clued me in that it was going to be a love triangle with too many rockers. While the book is told mainly in Violets point of view we do get a few chapters in both Razer’s and Alex’s points of view. I was disappointed in this book. I felt like the author was rushed in writing it. If felt like it jumped around and didn’t fully clarify or expand what was happening. There is some potential with the story and at times had me laughing at what was occurring. There were some unanswered questions that I am hoping will be resolved in the next book, which I do plan on reading.
