There is a good range of stories in this book by Windsor, all with a lesbian theme. I liked the variety of scenarios presented, and there were some interesting and unusual characters, which made it a bit more interesting than a lot of erotica.
I did struggle with the power imbalance within three of the stories, with teacher/student, boss/employee and the like. It doesn't matter how much you write that the characters are saying "Yes", the power imbalance is always present. I understand this can be a turn on for others, but it always takes me out of the narrative. It dropped a bit in the rating for me due to that.
I thought it was creative, and a little different. The sex scenes were hot and the scenarios refreshing.

Lesbian erotica anthology. Short but hot. 11 different tales, sure to get the blood pumping. A little something for everyone here. I'd very happily read more from Rachel Windsor.
I had high hopes and expectations for this collection, but it did not work for me. I don't think there was a single story that I enjoyed completely, and every time I started to like one, something would happen that made me dislike it. I've read a lot of erotica over the years, and I've gotten kind of picky about what I read now because I've figured out the tropes I like, what I don't like, etc. This one initially seemed like something I would enjoy more, but I was wrong. That's probably more about personal preferences than the actual quality of the stories, though. The only reason I finished this one--and I skimmed quite a bit of it--is because I got an eARC from Net Galley. If I'd gotten this free for my Kindle, I would have abandoned it after skimming through the first 2 or 3 stories.
I love the cover, but unfortunately that ended up being the only thing I loved about this book. The writing was pretty good (I did find a few errors, but I had an ARC so those have probably been corrected for the final version of the book), but the stories were very short. I knew they were short before reading, but I didn't realize how short. If you like your erotic short stories to have a bit more "story" to them, you might want to pass on this collection.
There are some things I really dislike in erotica, and try to avoid, and this book had a few of them: .
This might be something other people love, and I wanted to like it more, but it really wasn't for me.
3 stars. I preferred the other collection that I read from Windsor previously but this wasn't bad. Not all of the stories worked for me here unfortunately as I found a lot of them to feel a bit disjointed if that makes sense. However, the ones that I did like I thought they were really good. My favorites were 'The Sitter', 'Standing At Attention' and 'Her Big Rig' those were a lot of fun. Overall, not a bad collection.
There are eleven erotica stories in this collection that focus on professors, coaches, truckers, doctors, sleeping beauties, service members, and many more. The stories are varied and interesting.
Heat by Rachel Windsor Source: Netgalley My Rating: 2/5 stars My Review:
Heat is a collection of eleven super, super short erotic stories by Rachel Windsor that left me feeling a wide variety of things other than heat
Let’s start with what I did enjoy about this read. 1) The cover is smokin’ hot and promises all kinds of goodness to come; 2) a complete collection of girl on girl action which I find myself in the mood for on occasion and; 3) a few of the short reads including While She Slept, The Sitter, and Standing at Attention.
With the likes out of the way, let’s turn our attention to my dislikes. In large part, my dislikes boil down to a couple of major issues. 1) these stories really are so short that there really isn’t a lot of story to be had or getting to know the characters and; 2) the total and complete irrationality of many of the stories. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I am in the mood for a straight-up, nothing but the naughty bits kind of read but the synopsis for Heat really promised far more than it was able to deliver. In truth, I expected longer reads with a more substantial plot, more character development, and something other than just sex. This first issue seems to go hand-in-hand with my second major issue, the completely irrational nature of some of the scenarios. I totally understand that sometimes, the mood just overtakes you and you have to shag your partner. Totally. Understandable. I do not, however see that happening when you are visiting the doctor for a gynecological exam (Doctor Feelgood), or as your driving down the interstate masturbating and a random trucker signals you to pull over so you can shag (Her Big Rig), or when you’re working on high level clearance business for the military and locked in a secured and sound-proofed room (Behind the Blast Door). While I appreciate this is purely fiction, some of this came off as laughable rather than erotic.
The Bottom Line: If Heat had delivered on the promise of its synopsis, it would have proven to be a totally hot and thoroughly enjoyable read. Unfortunately, too little time and space for each story and the characters as well as some completely unbelievable scenarios weakened the overall read. I freely admit to liking a few of the stories, the cover, and finding no major technical issues but that is as far as I can realistically go. In truth, there really isn’t enough in Heat to pull it up and out of the two-star hole.
This line of the blurb sums up this collection – ‘HEAT’ has something to excite every lover of lesbian erotica. How many of the stories appeal to each reader will depend on their likes, dislikes, personal boundaries, be that in a fictional world or real life.
I found a number of these stories incredibly hot. A couple pushed my comfort zones, and two went into a sexual act I dislike with a passion, which has nothing to do with gender. However, I realize I’m probably in the minority as I’m seeing it more and more in both MF & FF erotica.
If I was to hazard a guess, the author, I mean characters, have a thing for breasts. It actually made a nice change to see ‘the girls’ given some attention, rather than diving straight between a lady’s legs.
The story featuring the babysitter and her boss, while hot, crossed a number of lines for me. I found it hard to become immersed in the plot as my mind keep saying, what kind of sitter does that, and who the hell’s watching the kid?
Dr Feelgood, verged on the taboo, but once I suspended belief I became absorbed in the fantasy.
Aftermath, a story of an established couple having hot makeup sex was my favorite story.
Professor knows Best, is bound to appeal to a number of readers.
I’m loathe to rehash all eleven stories, but will say this mixed bag includes, sex toys, strap-on sex, virgins, a sexy threesome, a butch trucker, mutual masturbation, and more.
If you’re after deep plot and character development this anthology might not be for you. However, if you’re looking for a collection of lesbian erotica to add to your spank bank, then a handful or more of these stories should do the trick.

The best thing I can say about this book is that the cover sure is nice. The inside, not so much. Meh. It was ok. Certainly didn't leave me in need of a cold shower, so didn't deliver on that of the blurb. I'm just not a fan of short stories I guess. I did like a few of the stories more than others, but most just didn't grab me / interest me too much. Ok to good sex scenes, but no time to get into them or appreciate them before they were over.
Good compilation of lesbian erotica short stories by Rachel Windsor. There is a bit of everything for different tastes. Each story could be read in 10-15 minutes. I liked the fact that some of them are quite politically incorrect. A good read for this genre.
