When Carrie Sullivan wakes up from a recklessly wild night with the charismatic Jay Fisher, she is left deeply disturbed by the violent intensity of the feelings he is able to unleash in her. Thrown into confusion, she seeks help from counsellor, Charlotte Vale, hoping to find some answers. Carrie desperately tries to make sense of how her emotions, so long repressed, are now seemingly spiralling out of control, their journey seeming to have begun the night she met American actress, Vanessa Bonart. Amidst this internal chaos, life around her is rapidly changing, her daughter is moving abroad and her best friend is getting married, which although are events filled with happiness, just enforce Carrie's feeling of being lost. So even though she knows nothing lasting will come from it, Carrie cannot resist seeing Jay and each time, she finds the sheer force between them, both frightening and addictive. Just when, with Charlotte's help, Carrie feels she is finally moving forward, an unexpected phone call brings Vanessa back into her life, conflicting emotions rise again, perhaps pushing Carrie that one step too far until she can only see one way out but could that be an option from which there is potentially no return ?
I was born in London and, from an early age, found every kind of book fascinating. I have travelled extensively, and I think this has fuelled my imagination, as I have been blessed with meeting so many interesting people and learned so much from them.
Despite appearances, I am an intensely private person and I believe, that's why I need to write, it allows me the freedom to explore emotions, without having to show too much of myself to the world.
For all that technology has to offer, I will always believe the best place to be is curled up somewhere and being lost in a really good book. I aspire to hopefully write one!
I love when a sequel just picks straight up, as if catching up with an old friend - in this case Carrie. I found myself in a love / hate relationship with Jay in this book, more so than Vanessa. Carrie’s wonderful relationship with her daughter continues, as her friendship with Kat hits the rocks. I adore books that focus on people, their drivers and thoughts, mistakes and actions. And that’s why I’m a big fan of this author.
