Action and Adventure in the Florida Keys From Bestselling author Steven Becker comes a great new series
Desperate for money and with Alicia in danger, Mac is forced to deal with a dubious antiquities dealer. The treasure hunt turns deadly as he tries to solve the riddle of the relic he found years ago.
An action-packed thriller featuring plenty of boating, SCUBA diving, fishing and flavored with a generous dose of Conch Republic counterculture.
Mac's attacked at Wood's place and the resulting fire destroys the house. Mac's trouble gets worse, his boat is seized, his house is destroyed and seized, his fishing license revoked through Tru's getting caught with Pamela raiding illegal lobster traps in protected waters that Mac's enemies are running and then, borrowing a boat from Celia, they are shot out of the water and Mel is on life support. Seeking help from Alice, the FBI tech wizard, the war is on. Suddenly, Mac is fending off Hawk and his goons in a salvage operation. Is their a silver lining in the clouds, you'll have to read the full story to find out. Thanks for another great read.
If you are fans of Mac Travis, You know you can expect lots of action and excitement in this book. If this is your first Mac Travis, there is lots of adventure and excitement in this book. Wood is gone, but this is still a good title. Mac is trying to rebuild Wood's place on his little island but finds himself in government red tape and no money. Somehow Hawk finds out and pretty much leaves Travis no choice but to help him. There is a Mayan wreck at the bottom of the sea and Hawk wants what is there. He doesn't have a salvaging permit, but Mac does. He also needs Mac's help in decoding the clues that show where the ship is. With lives at stake and a puzzle to solve, they form what turns out to be, an unhealthy alliance. But unhealthy for who? Another excellent Becker book!
Audiobook review: Excellent narrator with a pleasant voice.
Story review: This is a fun thriller based in the quirky Florida Keys. I enjoyed the story probably more than others since I had read one other book in the series. Obviously I missed the major plot lines from those books, but not enough to be lost in this one. I found being familiar with the main characters helped me get right in to this new story. I like the setting and Mac Travis' character. I find the audible books easy listening and am able to follow the story while driving, cooking or cleaning.
An SB. Key West Adventure Thriller (MTAB - 5)/Key West
SB. has. penned the fifth novel of his Key West Adventure series and it is a good one. The scenery is as close as he can get it without drawing pictures. The description of his characters fits right in with the newcomers and occasional gun or drunk. In this episode he has MT. Checking out an antique he discovered years ago to determine if it is the real thing. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I'll have to take a little break from Mac's adventures! This one about wore me out, with all the dangerous deep dives, the chases through the mangroves and good old Tru bringing on more than enough trouble. At least we found just about enough of a (ill-begotten) treasure to pay for a boat that somehow fit blown up. Good things happen... Sometimes!
These adventures are getting better with each installment. The writing style keeps you reading, the characters are becoming more defined. The plots have always been good, but a bit predictable and in this latest novel it had a few unexpected twists and turns. I have to say now I am a fan an will be reading all the books in this series.
Continuing the adventures of Mac Travis and friends, this time in the search of lost treasure and running afoul of another searcher who forces Mac to help and provide information as to the location of an old sunken treasure. Fun and escapes in the Florida keys.
Mac Travis at his best. Mac and Tru finding trouble again, but he gets help from his friends. Near the end another good friend shows up to try and help. Enjoy the book I sure did.
Good read, but as obvious an ending as all of his books. But still a good trash. Even got the geography pretty close to accurate but they still never buy fuel for their boats and when they do talk about fuel it is always gas, not diesel, but some of the boats do use gas.
Steven Becker managed to include underwater adventures, treasure hunting, friendship loyalties (past and present), and romance. His writing style utilizes many descriptions to provide the reader with good visual images.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Steven did it again with another great book and adventurer. Kept me on edge every chapter and leading me to to the next not wanting to put the door down..
Never been to the Keys but read many stories and accounts to think I might find my way around. Great characters, esp Mac and Mel that I remember from another book.
I have been reading the whole Mac Travis series. I enjoy these books very much. I am on #8 of this series. When I have finished this series by Steven Becker, I will try another one of his series.
This is the sixth in Steven Becker's "Mac Travis" series and I found myself thoroughly intrigued. Mr. Becker has found a way to take the great John D. McDonald's raffish detective Travis McGee (a little homage to that name, Mr. Becker?) and surround him with oddball, but believable (if you've ever lived in Florida) characters Carl Hiassen would be proud to lay claim to. All the characters, from hero to villain, live outside the bounds of society, totally independent and following their own internal code. The Florida Keys almost require this attitude, because life there is wild, untamed and unpredictable.
The plot revolves around a millionaire treasure hunter named Hawk looking for a lost Mayan treasure believed to be in a wreck somewhere off the Keys. Mac Travis may hold the secret to the location of the wreck, but he wants nothing to do with Hawk's illegal antiquities trafficking. However, Hawk's money and power buys a lot of favors and soon Mac is basically trapped into working with Hawk.
As the plot thickens, the reader is introduced to a crazy quilt of characters, from Mac's wily Cajun friend Trufante to the tough-as-nails, foul-tongued marina operator Celia and the mysterious Native American chieftess Cheqea. With non-stop action, glimpses of island life and colorful players, this is an adventure to be savored. Great vacation read!
I am sorry to see this is the last book in the series. I enjoyed them all and lost a few hours sleep by staying up reading on several occasions. I will say that a kindle wakes you up pretty quick when you fall asleep with it above your head.
How do I love thee Mac Travis? Well, honestly I'd rather be friends than lovers but you are never dull! Another extremely satisfying adventure with our hero and the ending left me smiling--but, no spoilers! You'll have to catch this action for yourself. And if you are new to Mac? That's all right; Mr. Becker provides all the background you need to fill in any blanks and keep the narrative flowing smoothly.
