It’s Christmastime again in Heartbreaker Bay!

When Sean O’Riley shows up at the Hartford Bed & Breakfast for his older brother’s bachelor weekend, he’s just hoping to make it through the weekend. What he’s not expecting is to come face to face with the woman he lost his virginity to a decade ago—a woman he’s never really forgotten.

The last time Lotti Hartford saw Sean, she told him she loved him while he said nothing. Now, ten years later, she’s just looking for a good time. For once, she wants to be the wild and free one, and Sean – the good time guy – is the perfect candidate.

But as the weekend continues, Sean realizes that after a lifetime of being the hook-up king, he’s ready to find happily-ever-after, and he wants it with Lotti. But will she open her heart to him again? As Christmas sweeps through the little B&B, he can only hope love and magic are in the air.

Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

Holiday Wishes is book #4.5 in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. I have been in love with this series from the start and this was the perfect little Christmas novella to add to it.

Sean O’Riley, Finn’s younger brother and co-owner of the pub, was always the one his brother couldn’t count on. The one Finn had to bail out of scrapes. He owed Finn everything. And now, with Finn and Pru’s wedding and he as the best man, he is determined to make up for all of it. He planned the bachelor/bachelorette weekend down to the last detail and nothing would go wrong. They were on their way along with their closest friends, to Napa to a Bed and Breakfast. Then they would go on to the wedding venue from there.

Bed and Breakfast at Christmas

Lately, Sean had been feeling out of sorts, lonely. Watching his brother and friends fall in love one by one has made him realize what he was missing. Upon checking in to the inn, he finds himself face to face with his sixteen year old one night stand. She was also the one that got away, the only girl he had really cared about and never been able to forget.

Christmas stairway

Charlotte (Lottie) Hartford had been madly in love with Sean when she was sixteen years old. And he broke her heart. Now here he was, standing right in front of her, asking for a second chance. But Lottie is turning over a new leaf. No more relationships, no more broken hearts. Maybe she can just have a one night stand with Sean and then send him packing and close that chapter to her life once and for all.

Christmas fireplace

A freak storm changes everything. The roads are impassable so they all have to come together to save Finn and Pru’s wedding. At the same time, it gives Sean more time to show Lottie he has changed. That he is worth the risk. That they deserve a second chance.

I loved this. I have only one complaint and that is that I want more. I am so hoping we get to see plenty of what the future holds for this couple in future books. They were adorable together and I so want them to get their happy ever after. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, book five, About That Kiss, which is Joe and Kylie’s story.

If anyone can make me like Holiday romances it's Jill Shalvis. Holiday Wishes had a great mix of Holiday cheerfulness and steamy romance that had me captivated from page one.

I loved that there was a bit of a role reversal in this story. Sean, the one that usually wants a hook-up and nothing more, now wants something with more meaning than a quick fling, while the woman he has his eye on and who he thought would want a relationship actually only wants something fun. Sean and Lottie had some great chemistry and some angst between them that kept me intrigued the whole time. I just couldn't wait to see how these two made up and

This was a quick read but longer than a short novella. I felt like it moved had a pretty good pace and still gave us our HEA without it being rushed so I was really happy with the length. It's a must read for anyone that likes a good Holiday story and I think it's the perfect book to snuggle up with during the cold winter months.

This was a nice second chance/holiday romance. I think I would have liked it a bit more had I read some of the other books in the series, but it was still a nice novella. I enjoyed watching Lottie and Sean fall for one another again.

4.5 - "You go ahead and give ignoring what's still between us your best shot... I'll wait right here." Stars!

Christmas would not be the same without at least one offering from Jill Shalvis, and lucky us we get two in 2017, following on from Chasing Christmas Eve; Holiday Wishes gives us Sean O’Riley’s story.

Sean is Finn’s younger brother, the brother who no one has any expectations of, and expect nothing from. Finn being the elder brother always sorted everything out for him when he was younger, and has also spent the better part of his life since keeping him out of trouble.

"I’ve learned a whole lot since then."

But things change, and Sean wants to prove to Finn that he has grown up and capable of being responsible, by taking on the planning of the joint Bachelor/Bachelorette weekend in Charlotte Hartford’s B&B, and their first meeting after so many years, doesn’t exactly go how Sean expects it too.

"We’re not getting out of here and neither are you."

Mother Nature has other ideas though, and leaves Sean and the rest of the party trapped for more than the weekend they were planning to stay. But Sean is not going to let the weather spoil the wedding and looks to Lottie for help. But she has plans, which don’t include planning a wedding on the bounce, over her first Christmas off in years.

"Maybe you’re not the only one who grew up."

Sun, sea, and a sexy surfer to ease a little of the ‘stress’ she has been under was firmly on her agenda, so being trapped with the guy who took her virginity and then left her straight afterward, and helping him make his brother’s wedding go off without a hitch is really not something she wants to contemplate.

He was even more appealing than he’d been all those years ago.

It’s not a secret that I am a huge fan of this author, and this series has gone from strength to strength with each book added to it. While this was a relatively quick read, it was great to spend some more time with the Heartbreaker Bay crew over Christmas, and to see Sean, step up, man up and grown up in taking on the responsibility of making sure Pru and Finn got the wedding they deserved. The second-chance with Lottie, rounded things out nicely, and I cannot wait to get back to this series when we return for book five About That Kiss January 2018.

This was such a nice little story! I have really enjoyed all of the the books and novellas in the Heartbreaker Bay series and Holiday Wishes was no exception. This novella can easily be read as a stand alone story but readers of the series will enjoy seeing characters from previous books make an appearance in this installment. I had such a good time reading Sean and Lotti's story.

Sean and Lotti are the focus of this story. Sean is taking his role as best man for his brother's wedding very seriously. He wants to make sure everything goes perfectly for the weekend the group has planned at a Bed and Breakfast. He is in for a surprise when he finds his high school girlfriend running the establishment.

I love second chance romances and I thought that this one worked really well. When Sean and Lotti were together last, they were teenagers going through a lot of things and they made some mistakes. They had a lot of chemistry and I really wanted to see them make it work this time. They really were very good together and just seemed to fit. I was really surprised by how detailed their background was despite the length of this story. I was cheering for this pair to get their happily ever after.

It was really nice to see all of the characters that I have come to love in the series play a role in this book. We get to see the first wedding in the group and I enjoyed seeing the whole group work together to give their friends a perfect day. I have really liked Sean from his first appearance in the first book and I liked Lotti just as much.

I would recommend this story to fans of contemporary romance. It was a really nice romance that should appeal to many. I can't wait to read more of this fantastic series!

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss.

Initial Thoughts
This was a nice story. I really liked Sean and Lotti together but do wish that we would have been able to see just a bit more.

Sometimes, your wishes come true…

Jill Shalvis has an amazing ability to suck me in and leave me satisfied at the end of reading a novella/short story. Sure, I love everything she writes and want more, but I can still be extremely content when she gives me a little. Holiday Wishes gave me all the happy buzzes that I want and need in my romance reads.

Sean has finally grown up and is acting like a big boy. Luckily, in all the mistakes in his life, his brother always had his back and loved and supported him. Now it is time for Sean to step up for Finn. Finn’s marrying the love of his life and Sean needs to make sure everything runs smoothly. No storm of epic proportions will stop Sean from giving Finn and Pru everything they want, desire and deserve. On his path to accomplishing this, he realises that he wants what Finn and Pru have. Imagine his delight and surprise when his first love steps onto his path.

Lotti can’t believe her bad luck when her first love just walked up to her path. The boy broke her heart and the man looks like he could do exactly the same thing. Lotti better keep her distance because he’s temptation and she’s not looking for heartbreak.

I really enjoyed this little story and loved catching up with the Heartbreaker Bay gang. It packs one heck of a wallop, with my emotions taking the roller-coaster ride of love. If you haven’t tried a Jill Shalvis, then I suggest you hop to it. This, while part of a series, could be read as a standalone. Sure, we catch up with her other characters in the series, but you won’t feel like your missing too much.

It’s a Jill Shalvis so of course, I want and need more.

What makes a perfect holiday read?

For one, it has to be sweet. Nothing says holiday novella than a sweet, satisfying romance that make your toes curl. Holiday Wishes has plenty of romance, and yes, it's sweet and satisfying, just the way I like it.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Two, it has to be the right length. Look, holiday season often means, you're pressed for time. You have to do a lot of shopping and cooking. And as much as you want to sit by the fire and read a fabulous 300+ page book for hours, you can't. Not always. So a novella length book that packs in the romance in under 150 pages or so is a godsend.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Three. It features familiar characters you already love. Sean O'Riley has been a familiar figure in the Heartbreaker Bay series. He started out as Finn's younger, troublemaker brother. But as the series goes on, Sean grew up and matured. He's proven himself a good brother and a loyal friend so reading about him getting his woman made me happy. Especially with a heroine as lovely as Lottie. Jill Shalvis always writes interesting heroines. They're complex, flawed but inside they're just full of love and loyalty.

Plus, we get to see the gang again. Nothing makes a reader's heart happy than to see the characters she loves happy and content. Like do you know of anyone who wants to see their fave characters sad and miserable? No!

And last but not the least, the thing that makes a book a perfect holiday read is its ability to give you the warm fuzzies.

Look. Don't me make me come at you with a 1,000 page dissertation of what constitutes warm fuzzyiness. All i know is that YOU'LL KNOW IT WHEN YOU FEEL IT!!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And yes, this book gave me all the warm fuzzies down to my toes.

Any questions? None? Good. Go forth and enjoy this book! <3

Holiday Wishes was sweet, heartwarming, and had an oh so perfect ending! I was surprised with how much was packed into this second chance novella! And I was surprised again with how quickly I connected to the characters and was invested in this storyline. So I definitely wasn't ready to say goodbye to them, but thankfully I'll get to see them in the future books of this series.
He had to laugh. “Lotti, when I first met you, you were in PE class wearing a baggy T-shirt and sweats and I wanted you.”
“I’m being serious, Sean.”
“So am I.”

Sean is Finn's younger brother, and he's in charge of his brother's joint bachelor/bachelorette party. They're going to spend the weekend in Napa, and the group is in tow. So Sean ended up renting out a whole B&B, just for them. But when they get there, he didn't expect to see the girl that was behind the check-in counter. Lotti was the first girl Sean ever slept with, and then he proceeded to break her heart. And Lotti doesn't want anything to do with Sean.
“Okay, tough girl,” he said softly, nuzzling at her throat. “No questions. No talking. You go ahead and give ignoring what’s still between us your best shot. I’ll wait right here.”

Sean is determined to make amends for how he treated Lotti ten years ago. And he wants to prove how much he's changed. Lotti was rightfully stubborn and didn't want to see how much Sean has grown up. But it was beyond obvious how much he had changed in every single one of their interactions. And Lotti also saw how much he had grown up when he was interacting with his friends. But the best part? Sean made it impossible for her to ignore him. He was persistent and everywhere Lotti seemed to turn. I love when a man knows what he wants and tries his hardest to win the girl. So I easily fell for Sean, especially since he was cocky, seductive, sweet, and thoughtful.
His smile was badass wicked and filled with trouble as he put a knee on the bed and began to crawl toward her with nefarious intent in his sharp gaze.

This novella can easily be read as a standalone. And if you're a fan of novellas that pull you in quickly, or a fan of this series or author then I definitely recommend it! You can't help but laugh and smile at Sean and Lotti's interactions and there were a few fun, sexy scenes! The only thing I could wish for, was that it was longer. I would have loved more peeks into their past when they were younger. But at least we will get peeks into their future, with this series future releases.

Sean and Lotti had their chance in the past and it didn’t work out. He went away to study with the promise that they would still keep in touch. But that never happened. Ten years have passed and they never talked to each other again since their first and only night. Until he’s at her B&B with his friends and family, asking for a second chance.

4.5 'A chance at you' Stars!

Ahhh, the satisfying feeling I always have when I finish a Jill Shalvis' work it's here! I always go back to a beloved author when I feel I need a feel good novel. And Jill and her Hearbreaker Bay series always helps! What better way to start getting in the mood for Chirstmas than go back to the amazing crew from Hearbreaker Bay, am I right? I loooooved this sweet romance!

It was time for Sean O'Riley to fall in love and how much I adored reading his second chance with Lotti! I love a good, light, sweet but still sexy and emotional novella and Holiday Wishes had all of it. Sean and Lotti have a beautiful connection, one that has always been there (since they lost their virginity together!), and I am so happy they got their happy ending. Yes, I would have loved to read more about these two and the whole crew but I will get on that on the next novel! Also, I am adding a 0.5 more to my rating because of that fantastic extra at the end of the book. Gaahhh, so good! Again, I highly recommend Jill Shalvis and this outstanding series!

I had just finished the previous book when I saw that I had this one too, so I just had to keep reading.

Love love love Sean and Lotti. He's been fun to read in the other books and she's hilarious and together they're adorable. I loved that they have a history and that what they want in the present is completely opposite from what they had.

Plot wise, it moves pretty fast, especially since it's just a weekend. The angst is at an all time low and the sweetness was up. Oh, and the UST is palpable.

Overall, it was a super cute and quick read. I would have loved to get a full book for Sean, but I really like this piece of time. And I can't wait to see them again in the next book.

Yall. It's a Jill Shalvis. You know I'm gonna love it. And Holiday Wishes? Totally holiday cuteness.

So, yes. A wedding weekend getaway to a quaint little inn in the country. How fun! And awkward when the inn keeper? Turns out to e the lady you lost your virginity to years earlier and who may be pretending to have no clue who you are because, yeah, you fucked things up right good all those years ago. Mmhm. #ShesStillALittleUpset #MaybeAnOrgasmWillFixThings

Yall. I do love me a second chance romance. Add in a sudden storm and an entire wedding party being "stormed-in" and having to frantically try to pull together a second wedding plan for their friends? Oh yeah.

And Sean and Lotti. I liked them. They had a little drama from when they were teenagers and the aforementioned fuck up occurred but oo! that does not keep all those tiny little horny hormones from making their lusty selves known. Nope. Sure doesn't. lol I liked getting to see these two all grown up and living pretty good lives. There's some steam and sweetness and it just left me smiling as they worked together to give his brother and soon to be sister-in-law a dream wedding.

Holiday Wishes is a pretty short read but a nice nibble of the Heartbreaker Bay series while we wait for the next full length. Romance, adventure, wedding chaos, apology orgasms...what's not to love?

Finally Sean's book!
And it was a really adorable second-chance christmas novella.
Snowed or rather rained in at this beautiful old Inn in Napa, with all his friends, celebrating his brother's bachelor/bachelorette thing.
He grew up a lot since he last saw the pretty little Inn owner! He just has to convince Lotti that he's serious about their forever ever after this time!
Short & adorable - a little too insta maybe, BUT they've known each other for 10 years!
☺ I liked it! Can't wait to read Joe & Kylie's story next!

A Christmas novella set in the Heartbreaker Bay series is not something that I can pass up. To be honest, I knew I was probably going to enjoy this story because it’s a Jill Shalvis holiday read. She does this really well and I liked that she was able to include some good conflict despite the fact that it is a shorter read.

This story is about two past lovers. Lottie and Sean had been together before but years have passed and they have both changed. Once a heartbreaker, Sean is now looking for his own happily ever after. However, he doesn’t expect to find it with someone from his past.

When his best friend is getting married, Sean runs into Lottie again and they rehash their past. Their banter is cute and fun, touching on their conflict well.

If you haven’t read the other books in the series, I wouldn’t suggest starting with this one. Since all of the characters in the series are present in this novella, it might be a little overwhelming if you aren’t familiar with them. I definitely think this story is for the loyal readers who have followed this series. A few times throughout this series, I thought that Shalvis was trying too hard to make the banter work, but this time I do think she found a good balance of cute and fun, without pushing it onto the reader.

If you’re looking for a holiday read to get you into the Christmas spirit, look no further. Jill Shalvis has the answer.

Sean is responsible for planning the pre-wedding parties for his brother and future sister-in-law and he wants everything to be perfect.  He desperately wants to show his brother and friends he has changed or grown-up. But most of all he wants to show how grateful he is. While the weather is not cooperating, things get interesting at the B&B. The hotel manager ends up being someone from Sean's past.

Heat, humor and a heartwarming tale soon follow as Lotti and Sean reminisce and discover something more. Closed roads, lack of food and a possible wedding disaster all made this holiday read extra special. Sean is adorable and has come a long way from the rebel of his youth. It was delightful to see him vulnerable and sweet as he showed off his moves. Prepare to swoon ladies. Lotti is sweet and has some commitment issues. I enjoyed their backstory and rekindling.

Holiday Wishes by Jill Shalvis is a sweet, hot and feel good second chance romance and I loved it.
I enjoyed watching Sean and Lottie reconnect, they made me smile, they made me swoon and I loved how Sean wasn't going to let Lottie slip away from him again.
Now older, wiser and ready to love unconditionally, this was their time, their second chance at love.

This was a totally entertaining story that packed a punch. It was fantastic read with genuine characters, the perfect mix of sweet and sexy with a just the right amount of emotion and playfulness. I loved this and thought it was a great addition to the Heartbreaker Bay series.

Sean and Lotti were such likeable characters and I loved their story. Even though it’s a novella it felt really full with great details and an awesome build. It was fast paced but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I found this to be super fun and couldn't stop smiling. I liked learning Sean and Lotti’s history, the complications in their life, and were they are now. They’ve got got an awesome attraction happening after all these years and I loved their flirty playfulness and electric chemistry. It it was thrilling watching them reconnect.

Holiday Wishes had a great feel to it. It was a totally enjoyable, cute, second chance romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved seeing the other characters from the Heartbreaker Bay series as well, that was a perfect addition that really rounded it all out. So entertaining and sweet with the right mix of sexiness thrown in. The perfect afternoon read!

Holiday Wishes was a sweet, tender novella in one of my favorite Shalvis series, and I loved to see this more mature side of Sean.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews
Story:
While Holiday Wishes is a quite short story, the feel of the Heartbreaker Bay gang is very much present. The group of friends and family are away for a weekend of bachelor and bachelorette party for Pru and Finn. All organized by Sean, to the amazement of everyone. He has planned everything down to the smallest detail. Apart from the fact that his very first girlfriend, the one he let get away, is the innkeeper.

The easy banter between the characters, as well as their strong ties always makes Heartbreaker Bay the place to be. The story was romantic on more than one level, too, as there was an impromptu wedding Sean had to arrange.
Characters:
Sean was so responsible and mature in Holiday Wishes, and I loved seeing him like this. He also showed more of his emotional side, which made me like him much more than usual.

Lotti was all alone, just waiting for her last guests to leave so she could go on a much needed vacation. Only, when Sean showed up as one of the guests, she got a huge blast from the past.

The other Heartbreaker Bay characters were present in Holiday Wishes, too, but they were on the sidelines for what became a beautiful second chance at love story.
Writing style :
Holiday Wishes is written in third person point of view, past tense. The story follows both Sean and Lotti closely, and I got to know them both on an intimate level. The pace is rather slow, and this worked well for the kind of story it was.
Feels :
I have such a huge love for second chance at love stories, so my feels were fully invested from the start. I felt the hope as soon as Sean did, and I also felt Lotti's hesitation. And I also felt their off-the-charts attraction and chemistry, as well as all the unresolved feelings they both had for each other.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

After that, he'd turned to fighting, and not the good kind either. Finn, physically older by seven years, mentally older by about a hundred, had single-handedly saved Sean from just about every situation he'd ever landed himself in.

"Hold on." Pru gave him a long look. "if you're trying to say you don't want to do this after talking me into it, then let me be clear and say that I will run you through with my umbrella while you sleep." Finn blinked. "That was oddly specific and violent."

After the disappointment that was Spencer's book I was so glad to enjoy this short story.

Usually short stories don't have much time to develop a very believable love story but in this case it worked for me cause they had a previous relationship. Plus they didn't profess their undying love or decided to get married after reuniting.

Sean has come a long way and it was great to see him being there for his brother and fix the wedding. We didn't have much time for Lottie but I could see she belonged with Sean.

Sean has a tender ego, "'wasn’t all that great,’” he was echoing to himself. “Yeah, I’m going to need you to explain that.” Lotti isn't one for surprises, "...The last thing she remembered was . . . well, riding Sean like a wild bronco. But she was alone in her bed..." I liked this little novella I loved Sean and Lotti.

A fun and cute holiday novella!

“If you don't leave your past in the past, it'll destroy your future. You've got to live for what today's offering, not for what yesterday took away from you.”

Holiday Wishes is a festive and adorable second-chance-at-love romance in Jill Shalvis’ wonderful Heartbreaker Bay series! It’s a fun and cute novella with low angst – perfect to usher in the holiday season! WooHoo! Cocky bad-boy Sean O’Reilly’s story is HERE! Sean is Finn's younger brother and co-owner of their pub. He's taken charge of Finn's and Pru’s wedding plans. He owes Finn everything and he’s determined that Finn’s and Pru’s walk down the aisle will go off without a hitch.

As the story opens, the close-knit friends from the series have congregated at the quaint Hartford Bed & Breakfast in Napa for Finn’s & Pru’s bachelor/bachelorette celebration. Imagine Sean’s surprise at check-in when he discovers that the innkeeper, Charlotte “Lotti” Hartford, is the woman he first slept with ten years ago when Sean was sixteen. He cared deeply about Lotti, but then he broke her heart.

When a freak snowstorm seizes the area, the friends find that they can’t relocate as planned to the venue where the wedding was to take place. AND the B&B where they are staying is closing for the holidays as Lotti has other plans. Will Finn’s & Pru’s best-laid plans to tie the knot be all for naught?

Sean has grown up a lot since he and Lotti separated. He wants to make amends, but Lotti wants nothing to do with him. Even though it’s awkward between them, their chemistry obviously hasn’t waned. Can Sean convince Lotti to give him a second chance?

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Holiday Wishes:

“Okay, tough girl,” he said softly, nuzzling at her throat. “No questions. No talking. You go ahead and give ignoring what’s still between us your best shot. I’ll wait right here.”
---
His smile was badass wicked and filled with trouble as he put a knee on the bed and began to crawl toward her with nefarious intent in his sharp gaze.
---
"Hold on." Pru gave him a long look. "if you're trying to say you don't want to do this after talking me into it, then let me be clear and say that I will run you through with my umbrella while you sleep."
Finn blinked. "That was oddly specific and violent."

Holiday Wishes is narrated by Karen White, one of my favorite narrators. She distinguishes between each character and vividly voices each of their personalities with the proper nuances and emotions. Simply said, she brings this tale to life superbly! If you enjoy listening to audio books, I’d highly recommend that you pick up the audio of Holiday Wishes!

Holiday Wishes can be easily enjoyed as a stand alone read if that is your preference. The story and characters will pull you in quickly. Just know that the whole series is delightful… and you’re going to be enthralled with this Christmas treat.

Holiday Wishes teems with romance, humor, steamy orgasms, wedding topsy-turviness, surprises and warm-fuzzies galore! It’s fast-paced as the story basically occurs over a single weekend. Even so, Sean’s and Lotti’s relationship doesn’t feel rushed because they share a history. I can’t wait to follow Sean’s and Lottie’s story as this series continues. Joe & Kylie will be up next in this series in About That Kiss - releasing next month!
