A heartfelt comedy from the creator of orange!

Shimana Kameko feels out of place in her own home. Her mother is dead and her father and step-mom only seem to care about Kameko's six-month-old baby brother. When Kameko decides to skip school and runs away to a nearby park, she stumbles upon a mysterious man in a kimono. The stranger, Fujiwara Taiga, offers Kameko a place to stay...on three conditions. The first condition is that Kameko must tell him why she ran away from home. The second is that she must retrieve his missing house key. The third condition is to have a dream and fall in love. Kameko's never been in love or had a dream of her own before, but to secure her own apartment, she's willing to try!

I read this because I am exploring some romance shoujo manga (primarily for girls) for a class and because my friend Lauren begins her review this way:

“Awwwww, this was perfection!! Ichigo Takano does it again! I LOVED THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!”

and I have agreed with Lauren’s views most of the time, so of course I read the first volume. Wouldn’t you, based on that review!!? I also really like the author’s Orange series, so I was twice encouraged. I haven’t yet fallen for this one yet; not as good as Orange, in short. Or not as compelling as My Love Story by Kawahara. One of these popular shoujo series is called So Cute it Hurts, and let’s just say that this one is not THAT cute yet, but it is still pretty cute for a first volume.

Teen girl Shimana Kameko lives in a home where she feels she doesn't belong. Her mother is dead, her father has remarried, her six-month-old baby brother (with new mom) is privileged over her. She hates her name. So runs away, moves in with a twenty-something and his way cute friends (Fujiwara, Zen and Asahi; the latter is the love interest). I think girls will like this, so am testing this with some teens in the vicinity. I’ll check out a couple more volumes.

Mir hat es hier noch an Tiefe gefehlt. Ich glaube, dass diese im Laufe der Reihe noch dazukommen wird, aber hier war es mir defintiv noch zu wenig.

Awwwww, this was perfection!! <3 Ichigo Takano does it again! I LOVED THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!

Dreamin' Sun is a romance shōjo manga series following a teenage girl called Shimana Kameko. She decides to escape her family home by running away since her mother has died and her father has remarried another woman and had a child with her. Feeling sidelined, she walks through a nearby park and falls over a man asleep on the floor. His name is Taiga Fujiwara who just happens to be a landlord and offers Kameko a place to stay...and from there...ahhh, everything is just so CUTE!

Kameko lives with three guys (Fujiwara, Zen and Asahi) who are all super adorable in their own way - I must say that I prefer the first two, despite the latter being Kameko's love interest, and documents their exploits in the house.

Dreamin' Sun vol. 1 introduces all of the different characters and their various personalities, and I found myself LAUGHING OUT LOUD a lot! It's super-cute and I cannot wait to read the rest of the volumes. I have a feeling this is quickly going to become one of my favourite manga series EVER!

Ahh! I'm so happy to be reading more from Ichigo Takano! Orange is probably one of my favourite manga of all time! When Jesse told me about this series, I knew I had to pick it up! i really didn't even know it existed!!! It was so cute and, of course, very beautiful to look at and read! I can't wait to pick up all of the other available volumes and continue reading!

This was such a cute first volume of this series. I’ve been hearing a lot about it and how much people have been adoring it. I just knew that I had to take the chance and read it and I’m glad that I did. It was super cute and I loved the way that all the boys looked out for Shimana. I hope that she gains the confidence that she’s looking for in the next few volumes.

DO NOT BE TURNED AWAY BY THAT RATING!!

it's honestly pretty rare for me to enjoy the beginning of a shojo manga - it's why that, in the past, I never usually continued them. I find beginnings of shojos a little cringey, a little too perfect and not usually my cup of tea. BUT I will be continuing this one!

While yeah, the plot of this is a little convenient, and its a bit instalovey and everything is a bit too perfect, I really liked the characters, the art style, and I'm interested to see where it goes! Hopefully it gets better from here on out :)

Nowhere near the level of Orange when it comes to storytelling or art. Still, A charming and easy read. The main character is a bit bratty but I like the characters and roommates overall. Fun sense of humor.

The author is so awkward in getting the premise set up, that it almost derails the book. I think the runaway girl moving into a house with three guys was supposed to be whimsical, but it came across as sloppy and/or downright loony. But once the situation portion of this romantic comedy had been established, I started to become involved in the relationships between the characters and found myself looking forward to getting more volumes from the library.

Shimana is quite unlikable in this first volume and the character designs are a bit off for me but as I loved the author's other work Orange I will stick with this.
Edit: After a couple of volumes this manga gets really really good and Shimana becomes much more likable.

Incredibly cute, solid start. I'm getting some major Fruits Basket vibes (my favorite manga *ever*) and I'm excited to see this continue on the upward trend. The characters are likable, the situations (while a bit cliched) are exciting, and I like all of the different directions this story might go! I'm glad the author takes the time to flesh out her secondary characters, as well. Off to a good start :)

Welcome Back!

I recently decided to branch out in my manga reading, I have read manga for a while now (if you look back on my previous posts I talk about how I read manga a lot last year but never reviewed any on my channel). This year I decided to pick up a few new series based on some trusted bookish friends recommendations, booktuber recommendations, and just some that have inspired some of my favorite animes. This one I saw a lot from a lot of different people and then I thought the covers were straight-up adorable and I knew I wanted to pick up the first volume and give it a try!

SPOILERS AHEAD

Shimana Kameko lives with her dad, stepmother, and new step baby brother, but things are not as great as they appear. She feels very unwanted and unloved in her home. Her dad wants her to be happy but also wants her to help with her stepbrother (but says she is helping wrong). One day Kameko skips school and decides to run away, in the process of running away she meets Fujiwara Taiga, he tells her that if she can do three things she can move into a place he has that will cost her about 100 dollars and will be furnished! This is perfect, because she just ran away, has no place to go yet, and has no furniture! So Kameko sets off on doing the three requirements; the first is telling him why she ran away, the second is to get the keys to the apartment (because he is locked out but has told her where the keys are), and finally, she has to have a dream. Kameko is able to complete all of these requirements and moves into the apartment! Which turns out to be a house and the house is furnished (but her room is not). It's not perfect, but she loves her new life! However, now he is telling her she must tell her father where she is living and get permission to stay there. This new struggle is hard for Kameko, but can she gather her courage to talk to her father and stay living where she wants? Where she is happiest?

I absolutely loved this volume so much so that the second I finished reading I went online and ordered the next two. I am completely sold and I can not wait to see where this goes. The art style was super cute, I loved all the characters, and I love this storyline! This might be one of my new favorite mangas and I can not wait to have all the volumes and read the entire story. I am kind of sad that I slept on this title so long! I am giving this five stars on Goodreads and if you are interested definitely check it out, I highly recommend it.

I wanted to explore some more manga and this sounded like an interesting and cute read. I didn't realise it was by the same author who wrote Orange - a manga series I LOVED. I had high expectations because of this, but it really didn't live up to the hype.

I couldn't believe this was written by the same author. The story line felt rushed and the characters were not fleshed out enough in my opinion.

It was obvious that the author was trying to make the plot whimsical but it really did not work. I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that the parents of the main character would allow her (an underage girl) to move in with a group of boys they don't know.
The main character was also very annoying and immature and she would fall in love with a stick if it moved.

The 'romance' element felt very cringey since the main character fell in love with one of the guys as soon as she met him. She then obsesses over him throughout the rest of the manga. I know the author was trying to take a comedic route with this manga but it just didn't work for me.

I gave it a .5 stars for the personality of the guys, but I just felt there was no real plot and the characters could have been fleshed out a little more.

I don't think I will continue with this series unless I hear that it gets a lot better.

After reading Orange (The author's other work) I was expecting a more dower somber experience, but I got something way different, and I kind of loved it!

So Shimana wants to run away from home. Her mother passed away a few years ago and her father remarried and had another kid. She says her stepmother doesn't want her there and all they do is care about the new kid. So she wants to run away. While doing so she meets Taiga who is just a drunk on the street. He then offers her a place to live. This zanny weird home consist of him, Zen, and Asahi. Three guys and one girl in one home, what could go wrong.

No this is not a porno you sickos. This is just pure chaos fun. Shimana wants to be, well, wanted. Wants to feel like she's part of a family and this new one she stumbles upon is crazy weird but so fun. The adventures of trying to find love and acceptances works wonders here. Some sweet emotional moments spliced in with over the top comedy and some really funny lines that made this a joy to read.

I know many probably enjoyed Orange more. And maybe overall I do to, since it handles suicide in a interesting manner. BUT this was a lot of fun to read and I read it way quicker. I enjoyed it so much I actually ordered a bunch of the volumes since they're on sale.

A 4 out of 5.

I really wanted to love this because I loved the first part of Orange. But I really struggled to buy into the premise of this book. Like you run away from home (bc you're a spoiled brat and don't understand ppl) and you meet a guy LITERALLY sleeping in the park who says you can live with him if you "fall in love" and "find a dream". You think to yourself "This is an awesome idea!!" Um no... Creepers be creeping...

Weird, but cute?
I obviously love Takano's style, so I'm here for it. But I'm not sure what's going on.
I already have a favorite, and it's not the main girl, obviously. When do I ever root for main characters?

I loved this first volume! I thought it was really cute and fun! I also love the characters and the plot.

It made me laugh a lot; I think Zen might be my favourite of the three boys, but yeah, I really liked it!

The pacing was a little slow for me at the beginning, but it picks up in the middle!

I can’t wait to continue with the series and see how the relationships progress

Lol.

This is a cute and fluffy intro to the story. We meet our main cast, and I really like them all. Sure, Shimana is kinda childish, but aside from that I have zero complaints^^

I'll definitely be reading the next volumes, and probably the entire series.

This series LOOKS cliché with the girl running away from home and living with a bunch of guys thing BUT from these 4 chapters alone I can also sense how this series CAN have a lot of potential if it's to be written well. For now I shall try reading the next volume first and take it from there :)

This was cute but over all the dynamic between characters reminded me way too much of Fruits Basket minus the zodiac.
