Grace Upon Grace: The Story of Ibrahima Kodio and a Remarkable School in West Africa

Rate this book
Nearly as far away as you can imagine, in a remote, hot, and dusty West African town in the Sahel, there is a school that has defied the odds. In a Muslim country, students are studying the Bible. Where most children are illiterate, kids are being prepared for high school and beyond. Hearts are changing, and hope is being restored. Grace Upon Grace tells the story of how Malian Ibrahima Kodio and a small group of volunteers have created a special place whose effects continue to ripple through the students, the teachers, the families, and through supporters everywhere.

This book is small but mighty--I read it in one sitting. It's the story of a remarkable community in Mali, and their dedication to the education of their children. People who have next to nothing, but with heart and hard work, they are making education a reality for children who probably would not have any otherwise. And it's the story of Americans who have decided to help them along the way---no fanfare, no shouting at our government to provide for them, just seeing a need and filling it themselves. (aside--I always wonder where it says that "when I was hungry you protested for your govt. to feed me". Honestly, that is OUR responsibility to do, because govts. will only do so if they get something out of it. Do suffering people need that additional onus?) Anyway, a very worthy read, a very worthy cause. Even if you don't want to read it, find a way to support them!
