Similar to other anthologies or compilations, I enjoyed some verses more than others. The racist stuff gave me a jolt when it appeared.

Most of these poems range from the 1860s to the 1910s. I chose this poem book primarily because I wanted the read poems I had never heard before that pre-dated the 1950s. This book like mini books before the 1950s are not organized by chapters or topics but rather by the authors themselves. I found this book in a garage sale from a woman who had died in Oregon and now it has a home on my shelf.
